Getting Safari To Work/OS X Tiger

Hi, I use a Mac G4; run MacOS 9.2.2 and Tiger 10.4.9. I liked the way Internet Explorer 5.1.7 worked whenever you wanted to download files. I liked the contexual menu in IE 5.1.7, that allowed you to 'Download Link To Disk,' and 'Download Image to Disk.'
For the life of me, I cannot get Safari (Tiger 10.4.9) to do the above mentioned functions found in IE 5.1.7. I can't even download mpeg and jpeg files while using Safari.
I must be doing something wrong while using Safari.
Internet Explorer for OS X seems to crash as not to. That's why I want to use the more stable Safari. Any suggestions?
Angel

The easiest way to get a jpeg off a web site is to just click on it, hold down the mouse button and drag it to your Desktop. If you right click/control click on an image you'll get a drop down menu with several options, including one to save the image to your default download location.
If you have a movie playing in the Quicktime Player in the Safari window there can be a problem getting the Save option to appear from the drop down menu there (unless you have Quicktime Pro). The easy work around is to go to the Safari menu item Window, select Activity and find the URL for the movie and then hold down the Option key and double click the URL. It will download the item to your default download location. Or you can Option double click on the link to the movie in the web page that points to the movie, if one is available.

when i click on safari to use the internet it says "safari cannot open the page because it is not connected to the internet", but i am connected to a wifi network so how do i get safari to work?

you may be connected to the wireless network but the question is the internet working properly on the wireless network...
what i mean is that i can make a wireless network without the internet so i can save and share files and have other devices connected to the same network access them... but you have to make sure that your internet it running properly... may have to reconfigure the router is your using PPPOE or if it was working prior to your post then try to restart your modem... that usually resolves most issues.

  • Can no longer get safari to work on my ipad.. bookmarks gone..etc.

I can no longer get safari to work. bookmarks gone..google will bring up cnn.com but I can't scroll it or get ride of keyboard...

First, double tap on the home button and your recent apps will appear in an area across the bottom of the iPad. Find the Safari icon and hold down on it until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the icon to quit the app. Tap the Home button again to stop the apps from wiggling then tap anywhere on the screen to return to the home screen.
Now go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, clear cookies, clear cache. Then tap the home button again to return to the home screen.
Now restart the iPad. Hold down on the sleep button until the red slider appears then slide to shut down. To start up again, hold down on the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and then let go of the button.
After the iPad has fully restarted, try the Safari App again.

  • HT201412 how do i sync my i pad to itunes - cannot get safari to work

How do i sync my I pad to itunes and how can i get safari working on ipad?

Perhaps one of these support articles will be of some help for the syncing questions.
iTunes 11 for Windows: Set up syncing for iPod, iPhone, or iPad
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    Apple - Support - iPad - Syncing
If Safari will not launch try this -
Go to Settings>Safari>Clear History, Cookies and Data. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
    Or try this.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • Can't get or send emails.  Network connection is correct.  Can't get Safari to work.  Home PC is good to go...Any suggestions?

I hate this IPAD!  I can't get emails or send them.  I have deleted the account and put it back in - didn't work.  I can't use Safari, because it says it's not connected to the internet.  I have plugged and unplugged the PC and it is working fine - emails in and out and internet up and running.  This has happened before and I was successful in getting back up and running.  any suggestions

You cannot send or receive emails or visit web pages in Safari because your iPad is not connected to the Internet.  They are related problems.  From your description of plugging and unplugging your PC, I assume your PC is connected to your router by wire, not by wireless.  So that is not going to be a good test of your wireless router, though it is a good test to see that the router is connecting to the Internet. I am, of course, assuming you have a wireless router.  The problem could be the wireless setting in your iPad or could be the router itself.
On your iPad, go to Settings.
Is Wi Fi on? If not, turn it on and maybe that's all it needed.  Also make sure Airplane Mode is off.
If Wi Fi was already on, click on Wi Fi and see if your router shows up on the list.
Post back here to tell us how it is going.

  • Can't get OS9 to work within OSX Tiger

Has anyone had success using OS9 within the newest Tiger? I have a favorite app that requires OS9 to work and the instructions in my Mac are vague about how to install the old operating system to have it work within OSX.
I recently did a complete wipe of my hard drive and installed the latest Tiger OS. I created two partitions for the hard drive. I used the single disc OS9 install CD (the one that came with my Powerbook a few years ago) and successfully went through the install process using the second partition, the one that OSX is not on. The OS9 system folder does appear in the partition list of items.
When I click on the app I want to use, the OS9 window pops up and says "Classic starting up using 'system folder' on 'untitled 2' (that's the partition name. The problem is that OS9 never completes starting up and I'm not able to use my app. I've waited ten+ minutes and OS still hasn't completed starting up.
    Can anyone help?
    John

    John, try this:
    1) Go to System Preferences -> Classic -> Start/Stop tab. Make sure the OS 9 System Folder is the one you want. (Hover the pointer over the selected one to see its location. Make sure it is the one on the 'untitled 2' partition, for example.)
    2) Leave the pref open -- you will need it again shortly.
    3) Open Disk Utilty. From its "File" menu select "Fix OS 9 permissions." This will repair OS X permissions on the OS 9 install you selected above. You can now quit Disk Utility.
    4) Back in Classic preferences, select the "Advanced" tab. Click the "Rebuild Desktop" button. Select the volume from step 1 & Click "Rebuild." (This step is just for good measure & not strictly necessary.)
    5) In the top section labeled "Startup and other options" make sure "Turn off extensions" is selected, then click the "Start Classic" button next to it. (This is the most important step.)
If Classic now starts up with no problems, what you have is an old fashioned extension conflict. If so, stop Classic & switch to "Open Extension Manager" in the "Startup and other options" section, restart Classic & select one of the top two sets in Extensions Manager, next to the "Selected Set:" text. (These are the standard 'All' & 'Base' sets.)
If Classic now finishes starting up, you will have to do the old process of elimination routine to find the conflicting extension(s).
BTW, to boot into OS 9 from the partition, you must have an OS 9 boot driver on the drive (not volume) you boot from. You can make sure that is there with Disk Utility. Select the drive (not the volume) & click the blue "Info" button. Look for the line in the info window that pops up that says "Mac OS 9 Drivers Installed :" -- you want it to say "yes."

  • I have to restart my mac to get safari to work?

THis has been happening for awhile and I really want it fixed as it wastes a huge amount of time. Everytime I turn on my Mac safari will not work at all saying that the internet is not working and everytime once I restart my computer Safari will be working just fine. Can someone please help solve this problem?

For which browser and version?  If Safari, there may be a solution found in the "More Like This" section over in the column on the right side of this website.

  • Anyway to get Safari to work on this site?

I can't log onto this government site using ANY Mac browser. Help if you can. Thanks.

OK, at the bottom of that page is a link for unsupported browsers: https://ides1.cmcf.state.il.us/File4UI/Benefits/profile/viewWelcomeStart.do;jses sionid=0001uW3bZLmL-o3DB3uCZpTa6Fn:10hhdl4iq
I tried in Opera, Camino, Netscape and Firefox and got a text-only page that seems to work... Opera was the worst - Netscape was probably the best.
    Give that a try.
    Best,
    John

  • TS1398 how do I get Safari to connect?

How do I get Safari to work after I have connected to Wifi? The connection is on but I cannot get Safari as it says it "cannot connect". I checked all settings too. anyone can help?

You may be connected to your wifi network but that network may not be connected to the Internet. Reboot your Wi-Fi router by turning the power off to it for 30 seconds. Then power it back on, wait until it indicates an Internet connection then start your iPad.
You can also try quitting safari and resetting your iPad.
Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the Safari app until it wiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • I can't get mail to work behind proxies

I am trying to get to my exchange mail to work behind another company's proxies.
    I proxies set-up in system Prefernces/Wi-fi.
Outlook connects fine as there are some preferences for entering your proxy settings.  Mail states that I have the passpord incorrect (wich I dont).
I am no proxy expert, but sounds like mail isn't using them.
    Any ideas??? THanks!

It might - thanks. I should add, though, that I can't get safari to work on the iPod, either. So it could be something to do with the wireless. The iPod touch is supposed to have wireless capabilities - honestly, it wouldn't matter much to my parents if it didn't; they never touch email, but I would love to be able to mail them!
Those steps at the link are pretty much what I've been doing. I'll try again when I have a stronger wireless connection. Then I'll let you know what happens.

  • When I try to send a link to a page from Safari, I get a message saying that sending the message to the server failed.  It places a copy in the outbox.  All other email and safari functions work properly.  Ipad 2 IOS 7.1

My Ipad2 works fine except when I try to email myself a link to a safari webpage.  I get an error message saying that the message failed to connect to the server.  It says that a copy of the message has been left in the outbox.  I cannot get the message from the outbox.  All other email and safari functions work as expected.
I have cleared data and cookies, powered down, and done a reset.  Nothing seems to help.

Typing in additional text seems to get the job done.  This seems to be a feature of the latest IOS update, I have never had the problem before the last update.
I use the box with the arrow just to the left of the URL block at the top of the page to send myself links to pages of interest.  Adding the extra text seems like a pointless step, but it does work.
    Thanks.

My macbook seems to be going crazy. At certain points (and for hours) I get the oh snap page on chrome, safari doesnt work, macbook wont let me create any files or for example upload music to itunes. I restored my mac so im sure its not a malware problem. The only thing that solves it is switching off and on , but sometimes I have to do that for 6-7 times before its ok or wait for a few hours. Some help please

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.
