Getting sequence settings to match audio

Hi,
I imported a few hours worth of footage into iMovie, because I like the feature where it automatically divides clips when the camera is stopped. Now I have taken all of my footage from the iMovie package and imported it into FCP. All was well except for one issue: I can't get the sequence settings to play the audio without redding it out to be rendered. Does anyone have any advice as to how I can edit these clips in FCP without having to render and re-render the audio?
Thanks,
Kyle

It sounds like you have imported DV video into iMovie which is saved as a DV Stream -this is not the same thing as a QuickTime movie that uses the DV codec -which is what Final Cut Pro works with.
Any time gained by importing into iMovie is now lost to re-rendering the multiplexed audio in a DV stream back to the discreet audio channels required by FCP.
You have also lost the timecode relationship back to the original tapes as iMovie does not use timecode and discards it. If you ever need to recapture the material (a failed hard drive is one possible reason), it will be impossible to recreate the edits correctly without painstaking, manual eye matching.
To retain timecode to tape relationships and produce a file that is directly FCP compatible, you must use FCP to capture.

  • "Change sequence settings to match clip settings"

Hi - I seem to have lost this prompt!!
Before when I bring a clip into a sequence with a different codec, FCP would ask me if I would like to change the sequence settings to match the clip settings..
I used to love this feature because it meant I didnt need to render the sequence and i could edit clips with most any codec/compression settings etc.
Anyway now FCP doesnt do it anymore! I send the clip down and it just puts it in the sequence and gives me the big RED BAR on top and I have to render.
I have repaired permissions. I have trashed FCP prefs..etc
I'm using FCP 6.0.4 on Tiger. Any ideas would be super appreciated!

    Hey guys,
I found the same problem occurred with my own "weird codec". I'm on FCP 6.0.6 and I was doing some simple testing work with Photobooth's video feature, which records in MPEG-4 640x480 .mov. I tried getting my sequence to auto-conform with both 'ASK' and 'Always' settings, but no dice.
I didn't find a solution, mostly because it was easier to simply batch export them all as DV Pal clips, but I thought you might be interested. I posit the auto conform only works with more conventional video codecs like those listed in the Easy Setup options - of which, MPEG-4 is not.

  • Changing sequence settings to match clip settings-which settings are right?

I'm using a Canon HF10 camcorder and FCS 2 with a 24" iMac Intel Duo core.
When I bring in a video clip shot on my Canon HF10 (I shoot in its highest-quality mode: FXP and I do not use the 24 fps setting), I take FCP 6's recommendation to set the Sequence Settings to match the clip settings. If I then go to Sequence> Settings, I see that my Sequence Settings are 1920 x 1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9).
If you look at the Canon web page for my camera: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=269&mo delid=16186 , it shows that the camera is "Full HD" and "30p Progressive." So, why is FCP defaulting the Sequence Settings to 1080i? Is this default setting what I should be using?
Also, and perhaps more importantly, if I go into Motion 3 to create things to add to FCP projects that use the footage from my HF10, what settings should I choose in Motion 3's Select Project Preset window?
    Thanks!

  • Adjusting Sequence Settings to Match Media

I have a few different types of media in my Timeline -- H.264, and others. What should I set my sequence settings to so that they match? The drop down that I am aware for adjusting the sequence only provides one option.
    Thanks.

    Hey Mark
You can't match all the types at the same time. A sequence can be set to a specific format and then any files matching that format will be "native" and not need rendering. With FCP6 you have the added capability of enhanced realtime performance with non-native codecs in the timeline .. this is what they call the "Open Format Timeline" but there is no specific setting for that, it just means you are mixing QT movie formats in the timeline. The realtime performance you will see depends on whether those formats are camera native formats, those being DV, DVCPRO, DVCAM HDV
DVCPRO 50, IMX, DVCPRO HD, XDCAM HD, and XDCAM EX, Uncompressed 8- and 10-bit SD Uncompressed 8- and 10-bit HD.
Worth noting is that H.264 is definitely not in that list, and not a format you should be editing with. You will not get any kind of realtime performance with such a heavily compressed delivery codec. As advised, transcode to a more suitable codec before editing that footage.

  • How Do I Change My Sequence Settings to Match My Clip

    Hello -
I shot some footage in SD with a frame size of 16:9. When I dragged a clip into my first sequence, FCP asked 'if I wanted the Sequence to assume the properties of the clip?' I hit 'yes' which changed the sequence to match my clip. However, when I created a new sequence(in the same project) and dragged a clip into it, FCP did not prompt me with the option to change the sequence settings. Now, I have a 4:3 sequence with a letterbox 16:9 clip. Any suggestions on how to fix this? Thanks for your help!

Then check (√) the Anamorphic checkbox.

Then select everything in the timeline. (Command A)
Command Option V (Remove attributes). Make sure Distort is checked (√)
    OK.

  • Changed sequence settings to match source footage but only half footage now matches even though they're from the same camera and same aspect ratio

My source footage is 1920 X 1080 from a canon 60D. I changed my sequence settings to Digital SLR 1920 X 1080 to match. On the program window I have it set at "Fit". Only about a quarter of my footage now fits the program screen and looks to be the matching aspect ratio. The rest of the footage when on "fit" fills a tiny portion of the viewing window so it appears they don't match the sequence settings. I don't understand why this is happening because this footage is from the same camera, shot the same day, and have the same aspect ratios.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening and how I can fix it??

First of all, the setting that you mention is on Fit is the Zoom Level of the Program Monitor. It controls only how the sequence is shown in that monitor; it has nothing to do with how any sources are handled in the sequence.
    Please provide the following information:
    Exact version of Premiere Pro
    Exact version of operating system
    Graphics card and driver
Also, please post a screenshot showing the following

    the Timeline visible
one of the problematic clips selected and the Effect Controls panel visible, with the Motion section twirled open.

  • Cannot get sequence settings right!

Whenever I import a video and put it into my sequence, I get the red 'needs rendering' bar across the top. I tried to fix the settings using this article as a guide but no luck. Any help please?
Videos filmed on Sony HDR-SR5E. Imported into iMovie and then into FCP version 5.0.4.

    Pixel Aspect - HD (1440 x 1080)
However, in the Sequence > Settings menu there is no 'Apple Intermediate Codec' option for Compressor.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Many thanks!

    Hi Shane,
    Thanks for your reply.

  • Sequence settings not matching

Have just imported footage from my new panasonic GH2, into FCP. Footage shot 720 60 p is appearing as an exagerated 16.9 image.[ stretched out and not fitting the window. Project has footage from panasonic HVX 200 720 24p appearing normally.
How do i set the sequence setting to render an image that fits correctly in my sequence.  Want  to actually mix these 2 different frame rates within the same seq., Hope this is possible?
Also am importing directly from the camera, when I put no name folder in it's own folder on my hardrive, was unable to access it. Called the shop where I bought camera and they said one imports directly off the camera.
There is nothing online that I can find to explain what to do.
    catherine

When I was researching this before I got the camera, I was told that FCP would down res1080p p to 720 on inmport. See below
Then shoot 24fps 1080p on your DSLR. You can easily drop that onto a 720p 24 fps timeline as the framerates will match, and FCP will automatically resize the 1080 frame to the 720 format. By editing a larger frames size source on to a smaller framesize timeline, you will also gain the ability to reframe and recrop your source footage on the timeline without degrading the image.
    Try it.
    MtD
The long and short of this is...can I mix 720 and 1080 p footage from different cameras into the same timeline. Currently my settings are for 720  24p and am trying also to import via upres preference setting in log and transfer, 1080p footage.
Also when I log and transfer in the 1080  footage, the "in out "points are not highlighted and the footage comes in sqooshed.
    Need to figure this out??

  • Sequence settings should match output settings

My friend has sent me a project to edit. with this sequence setting.
i tried many output settings but the quality is bad. i want to know what output settings shall i use for it.
    Thanks In Advance

Sequence setting should match source settings.
Output settings can be what ever you want them to be.

  • How do I export multichannel audio with match sequence settings?

I have a prores file that has 10 channels of audio. I made a sequence with the same audio and video settings (I also tried dragging the video on the new sequence button with the audio import set to adaptive) and then I tried to render a clip out of it by using the match sequence settings. The audio export defaults to stereo and can't be changed. I'm using Premiere CC 7.2.2 on a Mac at the moment.

It's difficult to be helpful when you have an attitude. I read your post, and was offering suggestions for how to achieve what you seem to want to achieve. If you really need to use the Match Sequence Settings - rather than changing the settings to match manually - then clearly you're not going to be able to get multichannel audio. Since this does not seem like a bug, I would suggest submitting a feature request and asking for the Match Sequence Settings to support multichannel audio export.

  • Sequence Settings Don't Match

    Good evening.
I'm using FCP6 to edit video shot on a DVX100B in 24p Squeeze Mode. When I setup a new project I choose the following:
Format: (all formats) Rate: (all rates)
Use: DV NTSC 23.98 Advanced Pulldown Removal Anamorphic (a custom setting)
When I drop my first clip into the time line I inevitably get the following message:
"Attention- This clip does not match this sequence's settings or any of your sequence presets.
For best performance your sequence and External Video should be set to the format of the clips you are editing.
Change sequence settings to match the clip settings?"
Is there something I'm doing incorrectly, or should I just expect this and always allow FCP to change my sequence settings?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi,
that is normal message when your source material and your sequence settings don't match.
If you check from your media browser the item properties for your source material and then compare that with the sequence parameters, you will see something either in audio or video that doesn't match.
May be you've got anamorphic material and your sequence was not set with the anamorphic flag on.
Answering yes to that form will make sure you won't have to render all time you add a clip to your timeline.
    Regards,
    Armando.

  • Can't match sequence settings to clips

I shot some footage on a JVC consumer camera and converted it to mpeg 2 with mpeg streamclip. When I create a sequence in FCP 5.1.4 it doesn't give me an mpeg 2 option in the sequence settings, so I can't match the format and the clips have to be rendered in the timeline.
When I go back to mpeg streamclip and convert the clips to DV and import them into FCP, the audio shows up as "1 Stereo", whereas my sequence shows up as "2 Outputs". So now my audio has to be rendered in the timeline. Mpeg streamclip doesn't give me an option to change the audio, and FCP won't let me change the sequence audio setting. So frustrating!
How can I get the clips and the sequence settings to match?

You can't use multiplexed MPEG 2 streams in FCP.
If you used Export to DV in MPEG Streamclip, that's another mistake. You will have to render the audio every time you change something.
How to do it right, the first time:
From the Edit menu, choose Export to QuickTime.
Choose the codec from the multi choice button at the top of the next window.
((Use one that Final Cut Pro works with, as found in FCP's Easy Setup menu.))
Set the Quality slider to 100%.
    Export your movie.

  • MY CLIPS ARE NOT MATCHING ME SEQUENCE SETTINGS.

I have had the misfortune of having to convert some Flip camera files into FCP for a presentation. As I am dragging them into my Timeline (which has a standard DV NTSC 48kHz preset) I get the message that my clip and sequence are of "different
formats" and I get an instruction box whihc asks me if I'd like to switch the sequence settings to match the clip. My question is, How can I see the specs of the clip I'm importing and locate the reasons why the two don't match. I also have sometimes used MPEG streamclip to convert to a DV file to be imported into the sequence, and I get, often the same message. I know something is over my head here.
    Thank you for any suggestions.

You can see the clip specifications in item properties. What are the original specifications of the media? Please provide complete and exact information. You can find that in movie info in the QT player. It's possible in the conversion is Streamclip was not done correctly.

  • I'm confused by Export Settings- Match Sequence Settings

I’ve created three sample sequences that are all NTSC 720x480 16.9, but each has a different Fields setting (Lower, Upper, and No Fields).  When Exporting (File->Export->Media), the CS5 manual states the following for the Match Sequence Settings feature:
To automatically export a file from a Premiere Pro sequence with settings that exactly match the settings for that sequence, select Match Sequence Settings in the Export Settings dialog box.
I’m confused what it is doing because when selected, it always sets the Field Type to Lower, even when the sequence is set to Upper or No Fields.  However, using a Match Source Attributes Preset, when available, the Field Type will indeed match the sequence’s Fields setting.  Also, the Match Sequence Settings wasn’t even available when the sequence was set to Lower Fields.
I did read in one of the forums where it was mentioned that checking the Match Sequence Settings will match the sequence's Preview File settings.  If this is true, I don’t see where one can set the Field of Preview Files.
If anyone could shed some light on this issue, I’d be most grateful.  Thanks.

I am confused about how to create a project setting as well as Export setting. I have few videos with width 640 & height 360.  Frame rate is 29 FPS. In project setting Frame Size i used 640 by 360 & pixel aspect ration is square pixel (1.0) . after i finish with editing i wanna to export in movie so in export setting i click on Match Sequence then render starts with 50% video quality i wanna to make that 100% but option is disable so what to do?
If I don't click on match Sequence then render will come in default size that is 720x480 . In this video quality comes 100%.
I am totally confuse kindly Help in this case.

  • Import QTS and Sequence settings

I am new to FCP form Avid Meridien.
I have QT export from Avid: 3.68GB meridien compressed 648x486 non-square originally cut from DV. When imported into FCP it automatically becomes 720x486 squeezing the picture. I also cannot figure how to set sequence so they match incoming QT. I get a "general error" and then "out of memory" red frame and when I close the canvas I cannot get it back.
I am importing to FCP to add chapter marks for iDVD which I figured out.

You can create custom sequence settings from the Audio/video settings. Duplicate the DV preset and change the size there. (sequence settings tab)
It would be better however to get that file in true DV size which is 720X480...
