Getting SIM card number from iPhone 5
I just got my iPhone 5. It's asking me to give my SIM card number in order to activate it online. The instructions are saying to take the back cover off of the phone. How do I do that? Doesn't look like I can. I tried using a pin to open the side of it but that didn't work.

This answer a little late but will post anyway in case another person comes this way:
If the SIM is already installed in your phone, you can browse to the Settings area and obtain there.
Settings > General > About
Locate the ICCID number. It is typically 20 digits long (5 groups of 4 digits). This is the SIM card number.
If the Phone was shipped with the SIM installed, this ICCID number is usually written on the label that is affixed to the outsided of the box.

The sim card from iphone3 is larger than the micro sim card that accompanies my iphone4.

The upgrade to the new iphone4 was made because my iphone3 was no longer working.Sounds like the instructions are wrong as the sim cards are not compatible. If the new phone has a sim card in it from your carrier you should be able to activate it without transferring sim cards. If not, you'll have to get the correct sim card from your carrier and have them transfer the service.

Check this table VCNUM, this is Credit card master table. and CCNUM (Credit card number) is the field which you are looking for .
Get the Card number from VCNUM and go to table <b>BSEGC</b> here you get all the info.

Can I move my iPhone 4 sim card to another iPhone 4 from the same carrier?
I just shattered the screen on my iPhone 4 (AT&T model).
I have a second iPhone 4 (also an AT&T model ... a friend switched carriers and got an Android. I have their now unused iPhone 4).
I want to know if I can swap my SIM card out from my iPhone 4 into their iPhone 4.
I think, in theory, that I should be able to do this, and if I restore their iPhone with my iTunes, that it should sync, and recognize it as if it were my same phone.
HOWEVER ... I had a problem with some features when I went from my iPhone 3Gs to my iPhone 4 when I upgraded: saying this device has a different serial number or UDID or something like that ... I think the problem was with my MobileMe account, but I'm not sure.
So I just want a qualified confirmation from someone who actually knows whether or not what I have proposed should work as I expect it to -- that with my SIM card, iTunes and my carrier will just recognize the new phone as if it were my old one -- or whether I'm way off-base in my understanding of how this should work.
Thank you for any assistance.Because the iPhones are both locked to AT & T you would not even need to restore the iPhone just insert the new SIM card in and restart. It will work fine.
If you want all your data from the smashed iPhone just back it up in iTunes and restore the other phone from that backup, but this is not necessary to just make your SIM work in the other iPhone. -
every time I swap between my SIM cards with the iPhone all the messages that we're sent whenever the SIM card was not in my phone never show! is there anyway I can stop this and still get the massages?

In order to get your messages to show up on your other phone, you would need to have a backup of the phone with the messages, and then restore the new phone from that backup.
According to article iTunes: About iOS backups found here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946 iTunes will backup your Messages.

Messages (iMessage and carrier SMS or MMS pictures and videos).

The iPhone must be unlocked (Bought from Apple and not another network provider) , or officially been unlocked after the requisite qualifying period and fee payment as applicable.
All the UK suppliers are bound to unlock on request however they can add certain restrictions - Everyone Everywhere (New name of combined Orange and T-Mobile UK) require minimum of three months usage and a £20.00 fee, O2 you can do online . 3 will also do online, Vodafone not so sure of their terms.
When you do get the card cut and iPhone working its not all over however because you are going to have to do some manual settings to get full functionality as your iPhone will almost certainly assume the settings for T-Mobile/Orange the primary carrier.
This may mean that you can not send texts or access the Internet straight away.
You may need to click on Settings/General/Network/Cellular Data Network and change the following settings.

How to restore my itunes to 5.0.1???Well, welcome to the world of "hacked" phones. If your purchase was from the US, you obviously purchased an iPhone that is locked to a US carrier. The iPhone must have been jailbroken and unlocked via software to accommodate your foreign SIM card. Now that you have updated the phone, it is locked back to the US carrier. Only the carrier can authorize Apple to unlock the iPhone and none of the US carriers will unlock the iPhones. Best suggestion is to sell the phone and obtain a factory unlocked version directly from the Apple store.
To answer your other question, there is not a supported method to downgrade iOS. -

It is 99% hacked/jailbroken iPhone to use a different carrier than intended. You have to put the sim from the original carrier or ask them to unlock the iPhone. We as well as Apple cannot help you with this.

Sounds like the iPhone is locked to a wireless carrier in France.
You will have to contact that carrier to see if they offer unlocking
and if you qualify.

"India" is a country. Not a cellular carrier.
There are 2 supported carriers in India. Aircel and Aritel. See this list: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1937
If you have a legitimately unlocked iPhone, it will work with a properly provisioned SIM from either Aircel or Airtel.
It may work with other carriers in India, but not all features may work as expected. -
