Getting snow leopard original dvd

Hey there.
I have an old mid-2010 Macbook Pro 15" (Model MacBookPro6,2), that came with Snow Leopard preinstalled. Thing is that this particular machine is affected by the infamous Nvidia crash (example thread) leading to a really unstable system.
This computer used Snow Leopard with no problems at all until it got upgraded to Mountain Lion (Lion was skipped), and then the crashes started and stuff. Since more than a couple years had passed from the adquisition of the computer, it was not eligible for a free repair.
Now using anything like Lion or above makes the computer unstable, and the repair is a bit too expensive, note that if it wasn't repaired earlier it's because we finally got a brand new MacBook Pro, leaving this one to rust, but we want to "recycle" it and give him a new life.
And now comes the real question: Where to get the original DVD that came with the computer? I cannot install from the standard SL Retail DVD, since it lacks the drivers for this specific model. Lost the DVD years ago, and cannot find it anywhere. It supposeddly came with Snow Leopard 10.6.3, I guess that anything from that version not belonging to another Mac/iMac model should be fine, but in the Apple Store there is just a Retail SL DVD (which I already do have) and there aren't the specific DVDs.
I may or may not repair this in some time, but I hope that by reinstalling Snow Leopard the crashes go away.
PD: I've tried several Snow Leopard installs, starting from the retail, and none of those has ever succeeded. It won't even start installing it, saying that the version is not appropiate for the computer.

For duplicate installation disks you will have to contact Apple Customer Service.  You will have to provide them with the MBP serial number (on the bottom) and there is a charge.
You might also download this software which will allow you to select the integrated GPU and make your MBP a bit more user friendly.  There will be a graphics performance decrease.

  • How install snow in a macbook pro early 2011 with mountain lion? snow leopard original dvd its no support...

    Any solution for this?

You have to boot the system from the original Snow Leopard DVD. With the DVD inserted in the drive restart the system and nhold down either the Option key, and then select the SNow Leopard DVD from the boot selection screen that comes up, or the C key to boot directly from the DVD drive.
Once the computer starts from the SL DVD Click the Utilities menu item and select Disk Utility. Once that starts select the top most entry in the keft side, the drive name and size, then the partition tab. Select one partition from the Partition Layout area drop down, Middle area, give it the name Macintosdh HD and format Mac extended (Journaled) and then click the Apply button.
Once all that is done exit DU and continue with the install.

  • Windows 7 does not read drivers on my OS Snow Leopard Install dvd

When I start the DVD and the setup.exe I get 2 options - Remote Install Mac OS X and DVD or CD Sharing, no drivers are being downloaded or appear to be on the DVD.
    Any ideas, please help.

Ok, after 3 sleepness nights I have found a solution and finally have a working Windows 7 Ultimate. I hope this will be helpful for everyone having similar issues and not have to go through the same nightmare.
Right away after logging in Windows for the first time insert the original Snow Leopard Install DVD and if Windows does not read it or install any drivers after clicking on setup.exe do the following:
Right-click on Start » Programs » Accessories » Command Prompt
    Select Run as Administrator
Type cd /d D:, then press Enter
Type cd Boot Camp\Drivers\Apple, then press Enter
    Type BootCamp64.msi, then press Enter
If you do not how to right click before installing the drivers the following:
    Click on Start
Enter cmd in the search box
Instead of hitting the Enter key use Ctrl + Shift + Enter and will open a dialog box
Click Yes at the prompt and you will be running as an administrator.
If you do not have the original install DVD go the this link and follow the instructions(including the ones from the last comment):

  • How do I get Snow Leopard onto my Blackbook?

    Hi folks.
With Lion coming up, I have to have 10.6.8 on my Blackbook.  A drive recently failed and I have installed Tiger onto it.  My Pro has Snow Leopard on it, but I can't install it onto my laptop.  How can I get Snow Leopard onto it?
    Cheers

Buy a copy of the retail Snow Leopard DVD at an Apple store - $29.00.

  • Attempting Disk repair with Snow Leopard install DVD. Prompted to restart several times

    Hi,
I'm trying to do a disk repair with my MBP (2010, OS X snow leopard). I tried  to enter Disk Utility with my Snow Leopard install DVD by pressing down "c" during startup but it gives me a grey screen in several languages prompting me to restart again. Restarted and I get the same screen.  Can anyone help me?

You are getting a (kernel) panic crash booting from the installer dvd?  Hmmm.  That's doesn't sound good.  Try resetting smc and pram.
If that doesn't fix it try to boot the Apple Hardware Test and check your machine -- assuming that will boot?
Also look inside if you get that panic crash and see if there are any diagnostic leds lit.
If this continues you might try disconnecting all unnecessary peripherals (usb, fw, extra drives).

  • Help installing Snow Leopard without DVD drive

    Hi all,
I've seen this question posted before but the solutions are not working for me.
I have a MacBook Pro running 10.4.11.  I bought the 10.6.3 Snow Leopard Install DVD from Apple but my DVD reader just keeps ejecting it, lens must have died.
My roomate has a Windows 7 laptop, and I see here that I can put my DVD into his DVD player, and remote it over our wireless and install it to my laptop.
I've run through the instructions but I can't see Remote Disc under the Mac's finder.
I've made sure to run the following commands in my Mac console too but no luck:
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser EnableODiskBrowsing -bool true
defaults write com.apple.NetworkBrowser ODSSupported -bool true
Is it possible to even do a remote install via one Windows 7 Laptop and my MacBook Pro with no optical drive?  Do I have some other kind of options to get this upgrade working?
Any and all help will be appreciated!

What solutions have you tried other than the one you already mentioned?
Please detail all you have done to resolve your issue.  Need this information so that the users can avoid the "been there, done that" scenario type responses.  This is to avoid repeating the troubleshooting you may have already tried.  Thank you.

    Hi all,
I posted this question under MacBook Pro but didn't get much help.

I found another article with similar instructions that included some console code.  I've made sure to run the following commands in my Mac console too but no luck:

That's actally a pretty good and cost effective way to do it.  I see some from Walmart for like $30, and it's possible to refund them if it doesn't work.
    Thank you

How do I get Snow Leopard for my Mac Mini?

    Hello, 10.6 is Snow Leopard.
    Snow Leopard/10.6.x Requirements...
    General requirements
       * Mac computer with an Intel processor
        * 1GB of memory (I say 4GB at least, more if you can afford it)
        * 5GB of available disk space (I say 30GB at least)
        * DVD drive for installation
        * Some features require a compatible Internet service provider; fees may apply.
        * Some features require Apple’s MobileMe service; fees and terms apply.
Which apps work with Mac OS X 10.6?...

It's been pulled from the online store & Apple Stores, so you have to call Apple to buy it, last I heard.
Call Apple Sales...in the US: 1-800-MY-APPLE.

You phone the Apple Store and order a Mac OS X 10.6 DVD, and if desired, update it to 10.6.8 and get Mountain Lion from the Mac App Store.

  • How to get snow leopard 10.6 on black macbook?

I have a 2008 black macbook that is stuck on 10.5.8. I tried to download things to update to yosemite however it needs to be on 10.6 to work. This is frustrating because I cannot download and use update browsers, final cut pro x or microsoft word packages. I downloaded snow leopard, but whenever I try to open it I get "This update requires Mac OS X version 10.6." which is what I am attempting to update to so I'm lost on that. How can I get snow leopard 10.6 on this early 2008 black macbook?

You need to buy it on DVD.

  • Where do I get snow leopard 10.6.0... Can't find it in the standard downloads?

where do I get snow leopard 10.6.0... Can't find it in the standard downloads?

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
Whilst Apple have withdrawn Snow Leopard from their stores, you can still get it from Apple by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE (if you are in the USA) and they will supply the SL DVD for $20 for a single user, or $30 for a family pack that covers up to 5 Macs.  You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion from the same number (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
If you are outside the US call your national Apple Helpline:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57
If you're in the UK, use this number: 0871 508 4400
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade all the way to Mountain Lion:

  • Replaced my hard drive and can't get snow leopard back...

I replaced my hard drive and reinstalled the operating system using my "Leopard" install CD.  But I had purchased "Snow Leopard" and now have no idea how to get "Snow Leopard" back.  Itunes won't work for some reason...everything else is fine.  I do have my time machine...but I had so much junk on their I don't want to just restore it...  I want a fresh computer with what I had purchased..."Snow Leopard"...so that I can maybe upgrade to Mountain Lion.
    Can someone help?

You need to reload it from the DVD you used to install it. If you've lost that, the online Apple Store sells them.
