  • I am trying to put a caption on a photo. Why does the caption not show in the photo?

In iPhoto, I would like to insert a CAPTION in the photo. When i enter my caption, it shows on the screen on top, but does not show in my slide show pictures.
    Can you help?

Adding a caption will add metadata tags to the photo, but not write the text as a graphics annotation overlay to the picture. The slideshow themes do not include the metadata tags. If you want to present the photos with captions, swipe them nanually and not as a slideshow.
You would need to find a different app to add graphic overlays to the photos for text written onto the photo.

  • Broken Camera? Pics get taken, but do not show up in Photos

I have an ongoing problem with my iPhone 3G camera:
    - I take a bunch of pictures (more than 100 or 200)
    - I also take screen captures amongst the pictures
    - I look at the camera roll and it says all the pics are there (151, 217, etc..)
    - but when I open the camera roll, there are only a limited number of photos displayed (for example, 125 of 200+ photos display in the camera roll)
    - when I sync to iPhoto, all the photos synch properly and I delete the photos on the camera
    - then i try to take photos and no photo show up in the camera roll, but they show up in iphoto when connected and can be synched.
    - I have been able to solve this problem with doing a full restore, but the number of restores is getting a bit ridiculous
It appears to be some bug in the photo database and the thumbnails are not being created, counted, or whatever... I think...
For Mail.app there is the SQLite Vacuum command trick to speed things up and restore the SQLite database for Mail.app. Is there anything similar for the camera on iPhone?
    Any advice? Please...?

I was able to fix the problem by deleting the DCIM folder on my iPhone by using an application called PhoneView. It was mentioned that other apps around that can be used as well, but I could not find them, and PhoneView worked for me.
Some people (on other forums) recommended deleting the certain portions of the contents of the DCIM folder, others recommended deleting the entire DCIM folder. I took the latter path, and things work fine now.
The only point to be careful on is to backup your pictures by synching to iTunes.
After deleting the folder, take a picture or two before re-synching to iTunes. Taking a new picture will force a new DCIM folder and other info inside the DCIM folder to be recreated and things work fine again.
I take lots of pictures (about 1000 per week) with my iPhone. It appears that all the picture taking, synching, and uploading I do causes the database on the iPhone for pictures to get corrupt often.
I hope that Apple will take action to eliminate this problem in the future via some type of automated maintenance script or something else to make the database more robust.
I am leaving this question as unanswered since I have found a solution that does not seem to be ideal... Hope someone else finds a more elegant solution than just deleting system files using third party utilities...

  • Songs are on iPod but will not show! Help me before I lose it!

I had plugged my iPod in like I ALWAYS do and I was puting some lyrics on my songs when all of a sudden my computer beeped. It said my iPod was not connected and then my iPod reconnected. However when it did it started to ask me to sync it to my computer. I had it setup so I could manage my songs manually. I hit ignore like I have been doing and then it started to update I think but I hit cancell and then BOOM all my songs appeared to be gone both on the iPod and iTunes. But I started searching my iPod because it is a hard drive and I found my songs. They are all there but I can't get them back. I even tried to put the songs on my iPod back on my iPod by draging them into iTunes. They showed up but when I disconnected it and reconnected it they were gone again! I searched the drive and I found this message:

I am so upset I do not know what to do! Please if anyone knows how to remedy this tell me before I break my computer in frustration. I am even near tears over this. Please I beg and beseech you: HELP ME!
P.S. Norton Antivirus keeps telling me I have a corrupt file. It says: iTunes:
    iTunes.exe- Corrupt File
The file or directory/iPod_Control\iTunes\iTunesDB is corrupt and unreadable. Please run the Chkdsk utility.
What does that mean? I am scared that it is really messed up! I did delete a file under videos that had never been there but I don't see the relation. Please help!
P.P.S. I just tried to add a new song to my iPod and it showed up in iTunes but when I disconnected my iPod everything was blank again. What is wrong? Can you tell I am upset? Please help!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Are the songs on your computer? Do they show up in iTunes? (I am assuming they are not). Go into My Documents-->My Music-->iTunes-->iTunes Music. See if the music is there. Is it? You could also try searching your computer for a song and see if you find one or all of them.
Also, see if you can use this to get the music back into iTunes from your iPod if the music is not on your computer...
    MacMuse: Computer Crashed
Once the songs are in iTunes, we need to address the chkdsk error message(s).

Before you restore your iPod, make sure that the music is in iTunes and works/plays without your iPod conencted.
I really don't think all the song files were deleted off of your computer. Just double check and make sure the actual files are gone.

  • Songs copy to IPOD but do not show up in Menu?

Hi i was wondering if anyone could help me with this or heard about this before,
I am managing to copy songs to my IPOD via itunes, however when i turn it on the songs are not there, however under playlists there is a blank playlist with nothing in it?? When i plug the ipod back in the songs show up in itunes as being on the IPOD.?
    Any Ideas
    Thanks
    James

Sounds like ipods DB file is corrupt, try resetting it by holding the center and menu button for 6 to 10 seconds.
If that doesn't work you need to restore it with the latest ipod updater. Restoring will wipe it clean so make sure all songs on it are on the PC before doing this. More about restore can be read here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

It sounds like you are trying to manually manage the media on your iPod while you have it set to Auto Sync. This document explains the difference in the two methods. You can switch between the two, but you can use both at the same time.

  • Keywords imported but don't show up with photos

I am not getting keywords to show up with imported photos. i've done a lot of searching on this and other forums to try to figure out what is different about my situation but to no avail. here's what I've deduced though:
the keywords will import if I deselect “Copy the items to the iPhoto Library”. But if I leave the default box checked", I will not get keywords associated with the photos.
(the rest of my discussion deals with a library where the imported photos ARE copied to the library)
Interestingly, the keywords ARE imported into iPhoto (if one looks at the keyword list); they just aren't attached to the photos (i.e. clicking <Get Info> shows no keywords, as opposed to them being there but just not showing up on the screen with the image). Most (but not all) of my imported photos show up in iPhoto without any keywords attached. Most Events are all-or-nothing; i.e. all the photos of the event either have keywords or don’t. At least one Event is a mix. I cannot make any sense as to why some do, as the ones that do will be part of an event that all the other photo's don't show the keywords; additionally, neither the ones with nor the ones without keywords share any common feature or change (e.g. edited, rotated, file type, keyword/tag name, etc.).
I'm a pretty basic user when it comes to photos (but with a fair amount of common sense and computer knowledge); not trying to do anything fancy here. I don't know much about photography, so I'm not manipulating photo settings on my camera and am not (purposefully/knowingly) manipulating the metadata directly from the file. So, I'm baffled as to why my system would be acting differently than any other "out of the box" iMac.
    In case it matters:
-- the photos being imported originated from a Windows-based PC and tagged by Adobe Photoshop Elements. I have the same problem regardless of whether I export them (using Photoshop) to a file on the iMac or directly import them over the network from the PC using iPhoto.
-- (Using iPhoto Library Manager) I created another iPhoto library to see if the same thing would happen with photos imported to a different library -- same problem. (BTW, I checked the new library's Keywords BEFORE I imported to make sure the keyword "library" wasn't somehow replicated from the previous library.)
-- In one of your forum discussions, you said that these “copies” would be in the “Originals” folder within the iPhoto package, right? If so, then they are the same size as the files being imported minus a few KBs, presumably due to the lack of associated keywords.
I assume that these "copied" files are suppose to retain their keyword/tag info. Any ideas why they aren't and/or what I can do about it? I tried rebuilding the database too but that didn't do any good. I'm figuring on trying to reimport everything again, but I fear I'll get the same result.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First try the simple fix: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder. Launch iPhoto and see if the keywords show up. If not, then launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Purchased songs show up on my ipod but will not play!

I am about ready to drive over my ipod with a car! I have the 80GB ipod and it was working fine until recently. For whatever reason, songs that I had previously (as in months ago) purchased on itunes show up on my ipod, but do not play. All other songs (ones that I downloaded from cd's) show up and play. I have tried everything I can think of but it still won't get them to play! HELP!

    See this.
iPod does not play content purchased from the iTMS.
If you have made sure that both the iTunes and iPod software are current and have deauthorized and reauthorized your computer, try this test:
    1. Deauthorize the computer.
    2. Create a new user in the system.
    3. Download the free song of the week from the iTMS in the new user account.
    4. Play the song in that user account to authorize again.
    5. Restore the iPod (using the iPod updater) in the new user account.
    6. Sync just the free song of the week and see if it plays on the iPod.
If it does, you appear to have a corrupted iTunes library file, and you should recreate the iTunes library file in your normal user account, and then sync your music back to the iPod and all should be well.

  • My ipod will charge but does not show in itunes or windows

I tried to use my ipod as a disk to transfer my itunes library from my desktop to my notebook (both Dell), now my ipod charges, but does not show up in itunes or on either of my computers. I have used the advice of going to control panel and unchecking the box under power management but that didn't work, CAN SOMEONE PLEASE PLLLEEEEAAAASSSSSSSEEEEEEE HELP ME?
I have windows xp on one and vista on the other, if that helps.

This worked for me, don't know if it will for you. Have ITunes open. While IPod is connected to computer press(at the same time) the menu and center buttons until your screen goes black and shows the apple icon then immediately press the forward button. Your IPod should show up. It won't hurt to try it, even if it doesn't work. Hope this is of some help to you.

  • In downloading my Events from iPhoto on my Mac to my iPad Air, the Events arrive in the proper order but not showing the Key Photo.  At the same time, the Events arrive in iPhoto on the iPad in totally random order but showing the Key Photo. Why?

In downloading my Events from iPhoto on my Mac to my Ipad Air, the Events arrive in Photos in the correct order but not showing the Key photo. At the same time, the Events arrive in iPhoto in a totally random order but with the Key phto showing. Why? of course and is there a way to shift the order in Iphoto and get a Key photo in Photos?

HHi, thank you for the reply. I have checked my iPad and iPhone and neither has iCloud Photo Library (Beta) enabled. Turned off in both. Photostream is turned on.
i tried to sort it out  by dragging all the photos to Events on the Mac and then deleting them from iCloud - (left hand side of iPhoto under the section 'Shared'). the photos now show up in Events. I did force quit but the issue remains. The message reads ' photos are bing imported to the library. Please wait for import to complete.'
i can't empty iPhoto trash either. The message read "Delete error. Please wait for import to complete.'
WHen I was moving the photos to the Events I always had a message about duplicates - to the effect that the photos already existed, did I want to import them? I clicked on Yes, import all duplicates. But when it showed the images - duplicates side by side - one showed the photo and the other was blank.
I really don't know what to do! And I don't know how to handle my iOS devices. Is it to do with the large number of photos? Any help, advice appreciated.
