Getting songs on ipod

I won a nano in a raffle - am completely ignorant on using it. Have downloaded a song from itunes to my computer. First question is, how do I transfer it to my ipod?

By default, the song should be transferred to the iPod as soon as it is plugged into the computer with the song in the iTunes library. If it isn't, drag the song onto the iPod in the iTunes source list to transfer it. You may need to play the song in iTunes before it can be transferred to the iPod.

Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up, relying on an iPod as your sole backup is not a good idea and external drives are comparatively inexpensive these days, you can get loads of storage for a reasonable outlay.

It is important not to allow your iPod to sync with an empty library. If it is set to synchronise automatically you will get a message saying your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to sync – it is important to press cancel as syncing with an empty library erases all music from your iPod.
You can also prevent auto sync by holding down shift & ctrl as you plug in your iPod and keeping the keys held down until the iPod appears in iTunes.
Once you are connected, you need to set your iPod to manage music manually.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for this very occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod: File>Transfer Purchases

Computer died - anyway to get songs from ipod to new computer

My computer died - the hard disk crashed and we have no access to any data on the computer. We have about 250 songs on the ipod - and have downloaded itunes on a new computer. The songs on the ipod are both songs that were purchased from itunes as well as songs from our personal CD collection.
Is there any way to get songs from the ipod to the new computer?

Ive got music on my iPod from 1 computer, Im trying to get songs from another computer. When I hook my iPod up on my 2nd computer and try to get songs it says:
"The Ipod Robbie's iPod is linked to another Itunes music library. Do u wish to change the link to this Itunes music library and replace all existing songs and playlist on this iPod with those on this library" It gives me two options: Yes and I loose all the songs from computer 1. No and it doesnt give me the songs from computer 2. Please help me!!!!! Robbie

Firstly, you must put some songs into your iTunes, e.g. rip the song from the CD. Once the song appear on the iTunes, connect your iPod with your computer, and a window will pop up and you need to register your iPod with the iTunes, then make a choice whether you would like to do a sync manually or auto.
By the way, seems that you are using window 98, I am not too sure whether it manages to support the iPod Nano, you need minimum XP or 2000

There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes. The first link after the Apple support document below provides step-by-step instructions for the direct method if you have a PC as well as a few third party applications (for both the Mac and PC) if you choose to go that route instead. You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
Just make sure that when you have your iPod plugged into your computer, that you don't hit "Erase and Sync" before completing the task of copying your music over.
Also, if you have any purchased music, you will probably have to re-authorize your computer by heading to the Store drop down menu and choosing "Authorize computer."

Can't get songs into ipod

I've got a new ipod and i'm trying to get all my songs on it
that I have in i-tunes from my old ipod, and when I look at it through i-tunes it shows that all the songs are on my new ipod but when I disconnect it - the ipod has no songs on it. What am I doing wrong? (When it shows the songs in i-tunes they're all there but they're grayed out)

Computer Crashed...trying to get songs from Ipod onto new comp...

I looked at a few old threads with similar problems and got myself to the very beginning part where you say "no" to replacing your old library with the "new, improved" empty library (GAWD!) and then I clicked on my Ipod in the "source list" to change it to "manual updates" and then it started to UPDATE!! I freaked out and despite it saying "Do not disconnect" I quickly disconnected it. Soooo, now what?
This is SO STUPID! Why on earth is it so difficult to get your songs reloaded into Itunes once you re-load it onto your computer?! I am sure I'm not the first person to have a computer crash. {frustrated!!!}

p.s. My computer guy told me to just do a search on my comp for all my old "*.mwv" files but that didn't bring back any of the 100's of songs I had loaded off of discs...just a few that I had downloaded.

Getting Songs Form ipod to itunes on a mac?

Okay,
So up until recently, I had all of my songs on my pc. Until it got a virus andf most of the files were wiped. I can now only getaround half of the songs on my pc but everything is still on my ipod.
Since i havea macbook pro i thought it was about time i transferred all of my music onto that anyway but im wondering how i can get the songs from the ipod to the mac?
I would love it if anybody could tell me of any programs or anything that may come in handy.

Messed up trying to get songs off ipod

Okay, I really messed up. I have a 7th gen Ipod Nano. I tried to get the music off of my ipod, then put it on my computer so I could put it back on my ipod without getting it erased, if you can follow that. I went into the ipod_control folder and copied the music folder from that into the music folder on my computer. I thought I could just drop that folder back into Itunes and Itunes would sort it out. Now I have a bunch of weird numbered folders in my music folder and since I tried to drag and drop it into itunes, there is 2 gigs of "other" in Itunes that is not showing anything. If someone can help me I would be eternally grateful.
