Getting started, need advice regarding PIN and gmail

I recently upgraded by phone to the Blackberry Z10, after months of nagging by Rogers (you would not believe how easy and inexpensive they made doing this - I paid a tiny fraction of what my colleagues paid, and my monthly bill is about the same as it was before).  This is actually my first 'smart phone'.  Previously I had used phones ONLY for talking.  OK, when you stop laughing, you can call me a luddite, and we can carry on.
I had my nephew set up my phone (he is the family Blackberry guru), and we set up BBM using my personal gmail account (at least as I understood, or possibly misunderstood, him).
Now, first, every so often, this thing stops getting email, and I get an error that imap.gmail.com, port 993 is inaccessible, and it becomes accessible only if I go to the account settings and resave them.  The latest this happened was this weekend.  I hadn't noticed this at the time I sent an invite to BBM to a colleague, and he responded before I got my connection to gmail reestablished.  Now, I see his response, with what looks like encoded data at the end of his reply, but his contact info has not appeared in my contacts list or when I open BBM contacts.  Does that usually take a while to happen, or do I have to reinvite, and have him respond, again?  In other words, does such a delay normally exist, if the current situation broken, or do I have to fix something (and if so, how)?  Lastly, is it possible to free space on the phone by deleting emails from the phone without concomitantly deleting them from the gmail server?
Well, I lied.  That wasn't the last question.  I just remembered, he asked me for my BBM PIN.  Is that my email address, that was entered to get that set up, or something else?  If the latter, how do I find out what it is?
Thanks
Ted

I'm not 100% sure if this still works but give it a try. See if you can setup your GMail using ActiveSync. Go to Settings >Accounts and remove your GMail account. Then follow the instructions below.
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB33472
If for some reason it doesn't work just go back and add your GMail account the normal way again. ActiveSync works better than IMAP but Google has said they are going to stop supporting it unless you pay for a Google Apps account. Mine is setup this way and works quite nicely and I don't pay anything.
As for your PIN you can find it by typing "mypin" (without the quotes) and hitting the space key in a BBM message or email. You can also find it in Settings >About >Hardware.

need advice regarding physical standby databases in rac environment on oracle 10G r2
I like to have have a Primary ( 10 node RAC cluster ) shipping to a physical standby ( 3 node RAC cluster ) shipping using LGWR .
So I have a lot of questions
    1) What will be the performance overhead on the Primay if we are using LGWR SYNC option .
    2) Does the overhead depends on the physical distance between primary & physical
3)Do you recommend a seperate private network for shipping logs between primary and standby.
    4) I know that DGMGRL supports RAC only from 10g. So are there any know issues are bugs using DGMGRL is RAC environments.
    Thanks in advance

Generally you should have same CPU architecture and same operating system but it's not mandatory to have the exactly the same CPU model, the same number of CPU, the same RAM size etc.
Actually starting with 11.1 you don't need to have the same hardware setup: it 's even possible to have primary and standby database on different platforms: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28294/standby.htm#i72053.

my phone is not getting started, its displaying itunes sign and USB sign on the phone's screen. I have also restored and updated the phone however not getting started

It helped earlier but it has come back again. I don't know what to do. I tried what you said earlier but this time even this is not working either. And quite intrestingly my phone won't turn off. I turn it off, it goes off and then restarts on its own and then keep giving the same message again and again.
Could it be a charging cable, is there any chance that the cable which was working fine one day could turn to be "incompatible" with iphone the other day????????

  • Need help getting started - I am a newbie and am royally confused

I have Crystal Reports XI and VB.Net 2005 with CR functionality built in. I created reports directly in CRXI and now need to be able to use them in .Net.
Here is where I get lost. When I created my RPT file it had me connect to a database (Access 2002) and then add a table and fields. It works great except now that I am porting to my .Net app the database it needs to connect to will always be changing (dynamic). The table and field names will always be the same. It is just the file name that changes, based on user inputs.
So are there any tutorials, literature, help that anyone can point me to so I can get on with my steep learning curve? I started programming in VB.net and developing CR's just a short time ago and would appreciate a 'dumbed' down explanation so I can get a handle on this.
Thanks for any help or advice offered.

  • I need a new Macbook but -.I need advice regarding the new fixed configurations

I have a MacBook from 2007 and it probably needs replacing as I'm starting to see problems, little hints that any day it might completely stop working.  I was ready to buy a new computer but after reading about the new MacBook Pros, it seems like Apple has forgotten its roots.
Let's say you get 8 GB of RAM which is probably enough for my purposes( but I'm still not sure, I might get 16 though its very expensive) and there is a problem with the RAM.  Do you really have to replace the entire logic board and what are we talking in terms of parts and labor assuming you are out of warranty?  This happened to my current Macbook and it was very cheap because I was able to snap new chips in but everything is soldered  on the new Macbooks and I don't want to buy a computer that I might be throwing away in 2 years.
The same questrion applies in regard to the CPU.  If it fails, is this going to be a huge repair bill?
Another major concern regards complaints from dissapointed customers who are unhappy with the glare of the screen.  As I have eye problems, this could be a big issue for me.
Finally, but less of a problem, Its disappointing that you need to purchase an ethernet adaptor and have to buy an external CD/DVD drive. People look at me like I'm crazy when I talk about CD drives, but I listen to a lot of classical music which you cannot get on the net, and, even if you can, it is of low quality.  You have to go to a store like Amoeba to find the CD.   Not a huge deal, but a bit annoying and these little things add up.
I'm starting to think I may have to take a look at PC's,  something, I never thought I'd do again.

I'd recommend 8 GB RAM, based upon all the information available today it should be sufficient for a very long time. OS X "Mavericks" uses system resources extremely efficiently and the MBP's flash memory goes a long way toward masking a paucity of RAM. Apple claimed that Mavericks' new memory compression algorithm results in an effective increase of 50% more memory than what is actually installed, a claim that I have empirically determined to be accurate, perhaps a bit conservative. In other words 8 GB memory will perform as if 12 GB were actually installed, if not for OS X's memory compression algorithm. Even 4 GB is sufficient for Mavericks whereas it was barely adequate for Mountain Lion.
If you were to ask an iPad or iPhone owner how much memory it has, and if they actually understood what you were asking, most would not know, or care. Nor should they. Such is the future of the Mac product line.
The same questrion applies in regard to the CPU.  If it fails, is this going to be a huge repair bill?
It certainly will. Fortunately I have never heard of a single case in which a Mac's CPU has failed.
Another major concern regards complaints from dissapointed customers who are unhappy with the glare of the screen.
All you can do is try it for yourself. Matte screens have disadvantages too. If you don't like your MBP, return it for a full refund, no questions asked. You have 14 days to decide.
Classical music used to been a challenge to find on iTunes, but Apple has been getting better. You can still buy an external CD drive to import your music; they're not terribly expensive.
Any computer design is a study in compromises and an optical drive simply isn't worth the tradeoffs. People howled about Apple's decision to eliminate floppy disk drives too, even as they were ridiculed for originally promoting the 3 1/2" floppy disk format. What Apple creates, Apple destroys, lest someone else do it for them.
In any event optical discs are antiquated and obsolete, so get used to the idea.
I'm starting to think I may have to take a look at PC's,  something, I never thought I'd do again.
Choice is good. Knock yourself out.

  • Some Help to get started needed for a newbie

I am attempting to add some simple email functionality to a small utility
program I am writing in Delphi for my school. We have used Groupwise for
many years and I have programmed a bit in Delphi but mainly database work.
Can anyone tell me where to find some documentation that will help me to

    How do I install it?
Do I need a Type Library for it to use it effectively with Delphi?

for VB (so you will need to translate for Delphi)

  • Need advice regarding an interview

    Hi,
Since everytime I had a confusion, it was resolved by this forum only, so now again I need ur support and advice.
Actually, I'm a struggler seeking desperately for job of a junior/asst. DBA. I've done MCA(Master in Computer Application) and OCA (Oracle Certified Associate) DBA.
Now in the next month I've to take the last exam (Performance Tuning) to be an OCP. Since I m a fresher in this field, I m not getting any job opportunity.
I'd already discussed my problem on this forum and had got lots of precious advices which recharged and motivated me a lot.
Now today I got an interview call from HCL company for the post of an 'asst.programmer' which is not the field I was looking for. But since I m getting an opportunity from a big company I m not able to resist it. Plz advice me of what should I do in such situation.
Further,I m not in practice of the programming languages for a long time so I m not sure whether I'll get through the Interview or not. Plz suggest. The interview is tommorow.

If you've got some knowledge of programming then at least it's a foot in the door and will allow you to gain experience.
Likewise, going for the interview will give you experience of the interviews, even if you don't get the job.
A good programmer has a good understanding of the way a database works, so the DBA skills you've already learnt will help you and, if you get the job, the programming will give you a good idea of how people need to use the database, so that too will support your DBA skills and you can eventually work up to the job opportunity you want.
We all had to start somewhere. ;)

  • How to get started Organizing photos with tags and albums

    Apporximately 15,000
Mostly family, vacations, travel, etc over 30 years
What is the BEST way to get started?  Should I tag them first or put them in albums and sub-albums and then try to tag and further identify them?  I know nothing of how is best to proceed.
I am oveerwhelmed with the process and cannot seem to find a starting point.  I have looked at many of the tutorials, but cannot find a "1-2-3 A-B-C" roadmap.
Message title was edited by: Brett N

I would recommend doing all (okay, almost all) of your organizing via tags. Don't bother using albums unless there are a subset of photos that you want to display somehow (like a slideshow, or photobook) in which case albums are the right tool. Also, make sure that when appropriate, you add the proper captions and notes.
I would start by using pencil and paper (or word processor) to make a list of categories and tags, in the appropriate hierarchy, that you might want. For example, in the people category, there are tags Jones Family, Smith Family, etc. (and sub-tags with people's names) In the event category, there are tags Vacation, Beach, Christmas, Hanuka, etc. Other categories you might want: Location (example: New York, Boston, Illinois), Content (mountain, church, waterfall, gorilla, historical site). This part completely depends on you.
Once you have this hiearachy of categories and tags to your liking, start creating/adding the tags (and captions and notes if needed) to your photos. You can work in small batches. Eventually you will have all your photos tagged (trust me, I know, I did this too).
Do NOT: move photos or folders from here to there, or rename them ... this is unnecessary extra work, as you will be using your tags from this point forward to locate your photos (exception: if you want/need to move the photos to a different hard disk, then by all means do so).

  • Need advice about coalesce and deallocate unused space

    Hi experts;
Here looking for an advice about coalesce and deallocate unused space.
I got this tablespace with 87% full, one of the table in that tablespace has 1,150,325 records.  I'm going to delete 500,000 records from that table, but to release the space used by those records I understand that I need to execute other procedure. I was reading about coalesce tablespace and deallocate unused space.
I found that apparently, both process can help me to free space. If you want to share with me your comments, about  advantages or disadvantages about them, in order I can take the best solution?
    Thanks for your comments.
    Al

    Hi
after deleted rows, the high water mark is still the same and so the size of the table. you need to bring down the water mark
here is what you need to do to bring down the high water mark. We do this monthly for performance purpose.
This is an EBS R12 system  but the procedures are the same for EBS database or non EBS database.
After you purge or delete data in a table
    1) alter table APPLSYS.WF_ITEM_ATTRIBUTE_VALUES move; <-- this operation will invalidate all indexes attache to the table
2)select owner, index_name, status from dba_indexes  -- list all invalid object for user APPLSYS
    where table_owner = upper('APPLSYS')
    and
    status NOT IN ('VALID','N/A');
3)spool idxrebuild.sql --generate script to rebuild indexes.
select 'alter index ' ||owner||'.'||index_name ||' rebuild online;'  from dba_indexes
    where table_owner = upper('APPLSYS')
    and
    status <> 'VALID';
    4) run idxrebuild.sql   -- to rebuild indexes.  -- at this point if you check spaces on the table, it is still the same, you need to run #5
5)exec fnd_stats.gather_schema_stats ('APPLSYS');  --fnd_stat is for EBS system you can replace with the database equivalent command.
use this statement to count the block before and after the operation to see the different.
    select DISTINCT(SEGMENT_NAME), count(blocks) "Total Block" from dba_extents
    where
    owner IN ('APPLSYS')
    AND segment_name = 'WF_ITEM_ATTRIBUTE_VALUES'
    Hope this help.

  • Need Expert Advice regarding oracle and java objects

In our project, we are submitting data for many screens at a time. Some screens will have a list of records to be submitted. There is also some hierarchy among the data up to 4 levels.
In such a scenario, we need to know the best way to exchange data between Oracle and Java. Currently java holds the data as objects, where each object may contain an array of next level of objects in it.
Is it best approach to pass the entire data with hierarchy to Oracle using nested table approach and internally oracle handling the data? Is there any other way to do this?
Also in some scenarios we need to pass the entire information for all the screens in one shot with the hierarchy. So we need to know a solution for that also. Could you please help us in this regard?

  • Need advice regarding playbook

Lots of advice to be honest. And to top it off I really am completely ignorant about my playbook. It was a present to me for 2011 Christmas. I am not much of an electronics person and don't even have a cellphone although I had some in the past. But I liked the playbook.  I didn't use it much, but I liked it . I guess I didn't read all instructions carefully or it wasn't plainly explained, but I thought that it would be like any other device I had before, where if I had no more charge I just had to charge it again and it would go back to working without a problem. Truth be said, by luck or some other reason I didn't have any problems with it although the charge probably went to 0 several times. However in the summer I took it to my daughter's house when visiting and forgot it there. I only got it back last weekend when she came to visit me here.
I don't think it was ever turned of and to make things worse, the cat had chewed trough the charger. It is unusable. My daughter told me that it was ok she has charged hers often with the micro usb on the computer, so I tried it. Nothing happened. I did get a red light when I pressed the on button, but that was it. I thought that maybe the power from the computer wasn't strong enough to charge it, the thing is,  not only I had no idea where to get another blackberry charger fast, but also at this moment I really can't afford a penny out of my budget so I called my daughter and she told me to try connecting the micro usb to the converter ( or whatever it is ) from my son't iphone to plug it in the wall.Nothing much changed. I've been trying for the past hour, plugging it in, off, in, off... the only difference is that the last times when I plug it in the red light comes up by itself- it didn't before - it's on for some seconds, turns off and then a yellow light blinks a few times and then nothing.I assume that it's not chargin anymore so I unplug it and then try again after a bit but there has to be a proper way to do this. I prefer to think there is, than to believe that the playbook will never work again.
I don't even know what playbook I have. I assume it's one of the first ones, and it does say 32 Gb. I am not sure if it was updated at all ever since I had it. I seem to think there was an update, but I am not sure. It was never connected trough a cell phone, since I don't have one. But I did get internet over the wifi before. My daughter said something about something manager in the computer and that I don't think I have. Heck I don't even remember my blackberry id even though I know I had one ( have ). I'm just an old lady that doesn't even remember half her passwords  LOL
In any case is there any way to kind of jump start this thing? I read in another post something about a magnetic rapid charger, but I really can't buy one right now. ANy help on what I can do to get it charing? Please and thanks

Yes, leave the iPhone charger connected to the PlayBook while pressing the power button (or the power + Up + Down keys).
And, no, the USB computer connection isn't enough to charge the PlayBook anytime. You might get a trickle charge, but rarely enough to keep it charge.
Good luck. You might need to leave this connected for a couple days and every 4-5 hours, try one of those power on attempts.

  • Hi all, need advice on OSPF and private vlans

    Hi all.
I have a project to complete and need some help on the possible solution I can use.
Basically we have ospf area 0 and the users in question are in ospf area 7 and is a stub.
I need to route the traffic from these users out through area 0 through 3 core devices, onto an external firewall interface to be placed onto the vpn that sits on it. The firewall is not included in the ospf domain.
My thinking was that the firewall has a default route back into the ospf domain so dont need to worry about traffic coming in, however my job is to segregate these users and take them out of our core network and place them onto an external network via this vpn.
Not sure how to achieve this apart from static routing redistributed but surely this does not seperate their traffic only points the route to ospf?!
I was thinking I might have to use private vlans or policy routing but when I try policy routing the policy gets ignored due to normal forwarding.
Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
    Steve

    Steve
    Thanks, that helps.
GRE is defintely out because apart from the 6500 GRE tunneling is not supported on the Cisco switches.
It's good that area 7 is only for these users and not mixed up with other users.
So if i understand correcty the 4500 interface connecting to the 6500 is in area 0 and the interface connecting to the 3550 is in area.
Or is the 3550 connected to both areas and the 4500 totally in area 0 ?
Can you confirm the above ?
In terms of keeping them separate there are 2 possible choices. You can either -
    1) use VRF-LIte, although i'm not sure whether the HP switch would support this. With VRF-Lite you are in effect creating virtual devices on the same physical device. This means each virtual device has it's own routing and forwarding table so it is quite secure because you would only populate the routing table with the routes needed so there would be no way for users to jump to thes rest of your networks.
The downside is that is can become quite complex to configure. If the 4500 is only used to connect are 7 to area 0 then that would not be a problem but the connection from the 6500 to the HP could and i don't even know whether the HP supports VRF-Lite functionality let alone how to configure it on that switch.
But it would, at least from the 4500 to 6500 to HP provide complete separation in terms of routing and forwarding. Once it got to the HP it wouldn't but that might not be an issue.
    2) Use PBR (possibly together with acls). This is easier to configure ie. you configure PBR on the 4500 and the 6500 to get the traffic to the HP switch. But you do not get the actual separation you get with VRF-Lite ie. the traffic simply overrides the existing routing tables.
The other thing to bear in mind with PBR is that you also have to configure the return traffic as well so each device would need multiple PBR configs.
Again i don't know whether the HP supports PBR but it may not be an issue depending on what the routing is on the HP.
You could also use a combination of the above ie VRF-Lite between the Cisco switches and then PBR for the last hop to the HP device.
I should say i don't have a huge amount of experience with VRF-Lite but that should not necessarily stop you using it if it is what you need. There are lots of other people on here so i'm sure there will be other people who can help if i can't.
It still depends on how much separation is required. VRF-Lite is definitely seen as a way to separate traffic running across a shared infrastructure, PBR is not really seen in the same way.  So it may well be worth going back to find out exactly what "segregating" user traffic means.
I don't want to confuse the issue but it's still not entirely clear what the actual requirement is.

  • How to get emails sent using my iphone and gmail sent to my Outlook inbox?

I have set up my my Iphone Mail Account using gmail/googlemail.
If I send an e-mail from my iphone then it appears in my sent folder on my iphone but does not get sent to my Outlook inbox (when I carry out the Send/Receive function). However, when I send an e-mail using gmail webmail (rather than Outlook), the sent e-mail DOES get sent to my Outlook inbox.
How do I set things up (using my Iphone? Using gmail? Using Outlook?) to get e-mails sent using my iphone delivered to my Outlook inbox?

    Thanks for your efforts...
    ..but still not working yet.
I have deleted the account and created it again, using your instructions.
I do not know whether Outlook is configured as IMAP or not: sorry to sound ignorant but I am literate only up to a point!
I do not understand why e-mail that is sent via the webmail goes into my inbox...while e-mail sent via iphone does not. I would therefore imagine that I need to do something to my iphone (as you initially suggested) than to Outlook or Googlemail...but I am quite prepared to be told I am wrong.
