Getting Started on Oracle8i
Hi,
One of the clients I am working for in the moment is thinking about introducing Oracle8i into its database environment. Currently it uses Access and MySQL. Its programmers have no problem sitting down in front of these 2 DBMS and start hacking but they are clueless on how to get start with 8i. Their have downloaded 8i from OTN as well as the docs and read thru their already. As a result it would be grateful if anyone can supply any pointers or resources for these people on how to get start on Oracle8i? It sounds stupid but in this special case they are certainly look like so!

Does anyone know how do I get started using the Spatial? We have Oracle8i server installed. Do I need to download any thing? Are there any samples I could look at?
nullIf you have a typical enterprise edition install then you have spatial installed.
To make sure, you can do a:
select * from user_sdo_geom_metadata;
You should get no rows back, but the view should be there for all users if spatial has been installed.
For samples you could download the 8.1.7 tutorial from technet and look at the exercises.

How to post a XCelsius in the BPC Web Application Getting Started page
Hi Experts,
I'm new using BPC 7.5 on NetWeaver. When opening the Getting Started tab in the BPC Web Application there is a white page that I would want to fill with content. This content should be a XCelsius Dashboard linked to the Query or InfoCube on which I`m planning. Creating the XCelsius Dashboard is not the problem, but to insert it in the Getting Started panel of the BPC Web application. Has anyone an idea how to do it or how to proceed. Ideas or a little how-to would be perfect.

if you hid the menu bar and the navigation bar simply press the alt button, this will bring back the menu bar and form there you can right click and select which bars you want shown

With Open ESB CD in hand, how do I get started?
I spent time at the Open ESB booth at JavaOne 2007 talking with the Sun representatives and engineers about Open ESB.
I'm glad I did, but I'm having a heck of a time getting started.
I have all of the requirements set-up running on Solaris 10 development server.
I've used the Service Oriented Architectures using BPEL from Java BluePrints, which really helped, but I feel I don't know enough yet to apply it towards real world projects yet.
What other resources are recommened to learn more about SOA, BPEL on the JBI Framework?

Regarding Facetime on my Ipad. I get started on a call and after 10 or 15 minutes I cannot hear whom I am talking to. They can still hear me and I still have picture on the screen but my sound stops working.
Why can't we use Acrobat Pro for mobile devices? Save a whole lot of headaches!!! Now I have to return this subscription.

Pages 2.0 will not get past the "getting started" screen
i just updated pages to 2.0 on ipad 2 retina (ios 7.0.2) and now i cannot open pages, it will not get past the "getting started" screen

In Keynote, I didn't have so many documents, so the freeze didn't take too long- that's how I noticed it's just a freeze while loading.
For pages it took much longer. You can also turn off iCloud in settings for Pages, Keynote, etc. open it, re-enable iCloud in settings app again and quick switch back to pages (double-click home button). It will freeze up again, but after a while after all documents have been pulled from iCloud, it will be back to normal. -
Baud rate and parity are set correctly, RS-232 cable is also connected correctly. My QuickBasic program has no problems to read and write to the Multimeter. It is obviously a software problem: the same error is persistent if I disconnect RS-232 cable.
I downloaded NI-VISA 2.6 for Windows 95/98/NT/ME/2000/XP frorm digital.ni.com and installed it. But it did not help.

So, can anyone tell me\help me on why that one isn't starting ? I reinstalled this 6 times and still can't figure out the problem... (as you saw, I even replaced the tns hostname with 127.0.0.1 out of paranoia). It's seriously driving me mad. Every topic I searched for (from the problem itself to even a step-by-step for dummies) shows an install, then the interface working... I see some questions regarding "I can't connect to..." but most are unanswered :(

jgarry: I believe what you explained may be related to the fact some reported the DB doesn't work properly when the event log is full (I just emptied mine so it doesn't apply). Normally I disable it but without it started, the DB is not working properly (not that I can get it started anyway).
There was a post on a site I found hinting at 3 things:
1. ORACLE_HOME must be defined as an env-var
2. ORACLE_SID must be defined as an env-var
3. there might be a problem with spfile
Regarding those:
1. shouldn't the setup declare it automatically ? I don't have it declared, but I added it (no change)As Orafad pointed out, Windows is different. It does have a search hierarchy it follows to figure out what the environment should be. So first, unset what you set and go into a cmd window and:
sqlplus sys as sysdba

2. same as above, except I am not sure what SID to add so I didn't declare it ... The only 2 I have are PLSExtProc and CLRExtProc in tnsnames by default. I tried with each but the only thing that changes is instead of getting the shared memory realm error I get a TNS adapter error... trading one error for another is not funFor XE, the ORACLE_SID is XE (unless you do screwy things to change it). So now that I see you had some other db installed before, I suspect an environment collision. Delve into your registry and see what oracle definitions you have - this is a lot of work, things are spread around some, but searching for oracle is usually a good start. I'm not up on the 11.2 details (or others, really, I just have vague memories of seeing MOS notes that purported to explain clean up entirely, without truly doing so, and I avoid Windows as much as possible). I would uninstall XE, uninstall the other one, then search the registry for any leftover stuff, then install XE and see if it all magically works. But that is a fairly brain-dead way to deal with it.
So that said, you can set up a little batch file to set your environment in a cmd window (specifically ORACLE_HOME and ORACLE_SID), and go into sqlplus / as sysdba and give the startup command. If you get the memory realm error, you have one of those wrong, if you get the tnsnames errors you can fix those following the advice in Ed Steven's blog. You can run tnsping to see which tnsnames.ora you are using, if you use one (which is determined by an @ sign in your connection string, which you should not need to connect locally, but if you do, you need to have XE defined in the tnsnames.ora, and may need to set TNS_ADMIN to get the right one).
Your tnsnames.ora should have an entry like this:
XE =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Yourcomputer.yourdomian.whatever)(PORT = 1521))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SERVER = DEDICATED)
(SERVICE_NAME = XE)
)You might want to search for any tnsname.ora on your computer, the default correct one would be: C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\network\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora
3. I don't have that file in the folder but I suspect it might be created on a first successful launch of the DBWithout an spfile you need to use a pfile, then create a pfile from spfile. But there should be one at C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\11.2.0\server\dbs\SPFILEXE.ORA (if you used default installation).

I did have WAMP installed at a point (uninstalled it) but if it were to conflict I guess SETUP would tell me (since the XE license doesn't let you use 2 DBs at the same time)Is that some mysql thing? That shouldn't interfere. It's only installing multiple Oracle products related some what to the Oracle database that can be a problem, and normally isn't with the more recent stuff.

Trying to use a new, larger external hard drive for my Time Machine backup. However, every time I start the backup, it gets started then fails. And, I can't delete the few files that did save on the external. Sort of a catch 22. Any ideas?
Is it a USB hard drive? USB hard drives have the problem of not giving full speed if they are hooked up on the same bus as keyboards and mice. Double check your profiler to make sure that is not a problem. If it is Firewire, make sure there aren't other firewire devices in use at the same time. I recommend not only keeping a Time Machine backup, but also a clone, and if you do use Time Machine, to make sure the Time Machine drive or partition is at least twice the size of the original drive.

I want to state somethings that I have found so confusing in getting started with Oracle Business Intelligence.
Whenever someone attempts to get in the Oracle BI world, there seems to be a myriad of products, tools and suites that one may not really know where to start.
Up till now, I have not been able to pick or find a resource on what is which. Sorry to compare products, I have been taken a look at Microsoft Database and its associated BI solutions, and indeed it was relatively much easier to say this does this. But for as long as a I have been in Oracle Database usage and putting my hand on work using its tools, I find it hard differentiating
Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition from
Oracle Business Intelligence Standard Edition One and also from
Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Plus from
Oracle Essbase
or differentiating
Hyperion Enterprise from
Oracle BI Applications
and why I should not install tools like Oracle BI Publisher or Oracle Data Miner or Oracle Warehouse Builder (OWB) when I have any of the above installed.
Thank God for Oracle 11g. The confusion is a lot reduced, because with 11g, almost everything seem to be in the right place.
So, my request is that someone should please show me a reference that tell what is different from what with respect to the above mentioned BI products.

All in all I would say you are getting confused and you are mixing too many products in the same bag. Sure you could say it's "confusing" to have so many products. But if you were to go to the supermarket without knowing what to buy, wouldn't that be confusing as well? Rather than looking at "what's available" you should look at what sort of product you need and based on that search which products meet your needs. Or would you go to the supermarket and ask to see and understand what every product does before buying what you need? -
Where can I find a tutorial for getting started with 3D in Motion 3?
I want to use the 3D feature in Motion 3, but I am having a problem with getting started on how 3D works in Motion 3. Can someone please point me a basic tutorial to get me started using this feature, or just offer the steps I need to use to get started. I sincerely appreciate your help.

I recently purchased a new computer with Windows 7 OS. When trying to learn the transition experience from Windows XP to this new OS version, I was presented with this problem of going around in circles.
When trying to view "Discover Windows 7" via "Start>Getting Started>Discover Windows 7", a Microsoft website opens to; (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/videos/personalizing-your-pc). It tells me; To view this contents, please install Microsoft Silverlight. Once I install it and get back to this page, I get the same message. I can not view any of the help content before installing Microsoft Silverlight. So now it is a never ending "CIRCLE of LIGHT"! Is this a problem with my Firefox or with Windows Microsoft 7?I'm not seeing the Silverlight plugin in your More system details list, so Firefox doesn't find it if you have it.
I assume that you also do not see it in Tools > Add-ons > Plugins ? -
I have a 8 slot PXI system with 2 NI PXI 6508 and 1 DMM 4070 in it. I want to get started with programming the digital I/O cards (6508)! How can I use this cards with LabView 7?what is the best way to get started, or where can I get examples showing how to use the several channels?

The best way to get started is to decide if you want to use traditional NI-DAQ or NI-DAQmx. Recently we released NI-DAQ 7.1 which provides NI-DAQmx support for the PXI-6508. In my opinion, NI-DAQmx is more efficient and much easier to use.
To get started with examples, simply launch LabVIEW and go to Help>>Find Examples. Then expand Hardware Input and Output>>DAQmx and select the appropriate digital group for your application. This should help get you started.

How do I get my apps back on the iPad after OS upgrade?

IPhoto has no photo in iPhoto library nor another album....empty folders...
I don't know why what used to be working fine and now iPhoto library contains folder with no photo?! Would it be because I move the iPhoto library to my user/home folder? I have been shooting Raw and load into Bridge and save to album folder in iPhot
