Getting tabs to open correctly

The situation:
I have 3 tabs open ... 1, 2 and 3. If I am on the first and I "open link in new tab", the new tab does not open to the right of the first but opens up as the 3rd (the 3rd becomes the 4th). And the 1st tab does not stay open, but makes the 2nd tab as the open tab.
Norton Internet Security and Malwarebytes finds nothing. I have uninstalled Firefox, deleted the remaining Firefox folder, and re-installed ... same thing. I have compared the "about:config" page to the one on my laptop ... everything is the same. As for Firefox options "open windows in new tab" or "when I open a new link, switch to it immediately" ... it doesn't matter if they are checked or unchecked, it behaves the same.
I just want to open a new tab to the right of the original and keep the original tab open.

Thank you for your response.  I did indeed find a mismatch between the level at which I was placing my chart and the summary level of my formulas.  I am working through that and I believe that will solve that part of my problem.
The issue with the charts in design view not matching those in Preview is evidently inherent in the software.  I guess I just have to get over that and not use the design view for formatting my charts.

  • How do I get tabs to open next to current tab?

How can I get a new tab to open next to the current tab without switching to the new tab instead of having the new tab open at the end of all open tabs and switching to the new tab?

    Every time Firefox opened

Right click the FireFox button in your toolbar and look in the properties- middle tab...make sure that it only has "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" with no other link added to the end. I had a similar problem this morning and found a website had attached it's link to the end so it would always pop up first and would only open a new tab.
    Hope that fixed it.

  • Browser opens to properly set home page. Tabs open to a different home page. what is the fix to get tabs to open to the home page I want.

I have firefox 24.0 in xp . for some time i have been using firefox with no problems. and i think i recently update to the current version. went my problem started I think was when I tried to download a video downloader. my home page was changed even tho I did a custom install. May home page was switched. after much trial and error I managed to get the home page I wanted when the browser first opens. but when I hit the tab button some home page opens that I dont recognise. and it does that for each addition tab that I open. it does this only when I open a tab. I have read several of the related questions here but there a waste of time because I am not a techie.
looked at the about:config thing but finding the right thing to even begin to look at was impossible. I dont recognise any of the thing in there and I dint understand how to search for the thing it said search for. this is the instructions I tried to follow:
    Chosen solution
You can modify the browser.newtab.url pref and change the value to http://foxnews.com
Also make sure that the new tab page is enabled, the browser.newtabpage.enabled should be true.
Type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key to open the about:config page, just like you open a website by typing the URL in the location bar.
If you see a warning message then you can confirm that you want to access the about:config page.
use the Search bar at the top of the about:config page to locate preferences more easily
preferences that have been modified and do not have the default value show as bold (user set)
preferences that are user set (bold) can be reset to the default value via the right-click context menu
preferences can be changed via the right-click context menu: Modify (String or Integer) or Toggle (Boolean) or by double-clicking the line with the pref
preferences can be created via the right-click context menu: New -> String, Integer, Boolean
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/about:config.
what preference am I searching for? I tried searching for browser.newtab.url and came up blank. search for just browser came of with too many for me to make judgment on.
This was very confusing and i could not figure it out until the asker came back and said it worked and something else that I cant find now. i think the answers should be dumbed down to where non-techies can understand. my problem is solved

You can change this if you don't mind peeking under the covers into Firefox's about:config preferences editor.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter the desired value:
    (i) Page thumbnails (default)
    browser.newtab.url = about:newtab
    (ii) Blank tab
    browser.newtab.url = about:blank
    (iii) Built-in Firefox home page
    browser.newtab.url = about:home
    (iv) Any other page
browser.newtab.url = full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?

  • What am I doing wrong?  Can't get images to open correctly in CS5.

I've been using Lightroom 3 for a  while and decided to take the plunge and integrate CS5 into my  workflow.  I'm really new to CS5, so this is probably a stupid  question.  When I try to edit a photo in CS5, all I see is a black  screen.  I can see the thumbnail in the "layers" tab, but nothing else.   If I select a large area, using one of the selection tools, I see a  highly pixelated picture that only resolves if I click the actual pixels  button.  The same thing happens when I try to open a picture directly  in CS5.  I can see the preview, and when I click "open" I get the same  black screen.  What gives?  Do I have something set incorrectly, or is  this just general incompetence.  Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Joe

Thanks to all!  I have a pretty old laptop that has an ATI Radeon X1400 graphics card and the Mfr hasn't upgraded that in years.  Nonetheless, I downloaded the latest version and re-installed, but I still had the problem.  I disabled the Open GL option and that seems to have solved the issue.  What did I disable and how badly will that affect my work (assuming, of course, that I can actually learn to use the software!).  Thanks again for your patience.  I appreciate it.

  • Sidebar: Can't get it to open correctly

Up until a few days ago, when I opened finder, the sidebar looked as follows:
    Upper level:
    - My computer icon
    - iDisk icon
    - Macintosh HD icon
    Lower level:
    - Movies
    - documents
    - Music
    - Pictures
    - Desktop
    - BarbsPlace
    - Applications
Since a couple of days ago, in order to get to this view, I have to do the following:
    - Click on new finder window. (Sidebar does not appear)
    - Highlight (single click) "bbolsen" iDisk icon
Note: if I double click this and enter id + password, it refuses to recognize my user name and password
    - Click twice on oval dot at upper right side of screen
    - Finally the sidebar is displayed.
I'm glad I can actually GET here, but can someone tell me how to get the finder window to automatically open in this location (as it has done for years until a few days ago)? I have tried checking and unchecking various boxes in Preferences and I have tried rebooting. Nothing seems to work. Thanks!

First, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
Reboot, setup the Sidebar the way you want again, & test.

  • Can't get LR5 to open correctly-is there a combination of keys to quick start lr?

Looking for a way to get back to original opening screen of LR5 - see screenshot of what I see.  Thanks in advance

Thanks for replying DJ-I didn't mention that I did (when I tried at least a yr ago-and memory's shot ((mine, that is))) that I must have deleted any catalogs that were on my laptop.
This morning i made a "fake" catalog with the .lrcat extension and "bingo" i came up with the normal library page.  Now I'll just go file/new catalog and forget about the fake one.
I really appreciate your help!  Thanks again, and have a great day...
-On to trying again with positive results this time....  ; }   Pam

  • How can i get a tab to open showing my home page?

How do I get tabs to open in my home page?

You can install one of the many add-ons to accomplish this. There are many different ones available, so you can just go to the Firefox add-ons page and search for "Home Page".
Also, ensure that you've setup Firefox with your Home Page URL. If you haven't done so, follow the steps below:
    * Go to Options (i.e. \Firefox\Options\Options);
    * Go to the General tab;
    * Under Start-up - enter the URL in the Home Page URL box.
Note: Make sure that you have chosen "Show my Home Page" under "When Firefox Starts" (use the drop down arrow).

  • How do I get Firefox to open new tabs with my homepage instead of the top sites?

When I open a new tab, I get the top sites page. I want this to open to my home page.
I already changed my home page in the tool and when I go to it now, it still says what I want my home page to be, but new tabs still open wrong

By default in Firefox a new tab opens a blank page. You have something installed which changed that action, and that "something" sounds like it may not be working correctly.

  • When I click on the + sign, I do not get another tab even though an additional tab WILL open if, for example, I click on a link in an e-mail or on a site.

Before the latest upgrade, I could open a new tab by clicking on the + to the right of any open tabs. No more. Nothing happens. If I click on a link in an e-mail or on a website, however, a new tab will open. For example, if I get an e-mail from Facebook that says someone has posted and I click the link, I will get a new tab opened and Facebook will be there. Then I have both tabs open and can navigate on either with no problem. If I then click on the + sign, nothing at all happens. I am perfectly able to open Safari with Firefox running, and I can get multiple tabs going there with no effect on Firefox. That is, I can go back and forth.
I am grateful for any help! Thank you.

How can I set home page for a new tab? how can i get firefox to open the home page every time i open a new tab in Windows vista home basic??

    Every time Firefox opened

Firefox can have multiple home pages if you wish. Each home page that will open when starting Firefox is separated by the "|" character.
    See: http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page
To have new tabs open a specific web site, add one of the following extensions:

  • How do I get App Tabs to open on the bookmarked location rather than the last visited one?

For example, I have YouTube as an App Tab. Every time I open firefox the last think I was watching on YouTube starts playing again. I would really like to set it so the App Tabs open on whatever page I originally set them for.

Just make sure that you open any new links in a new tab and not in the App tab.<br />
There are tab related extensions that can protect or lock tabs to prevent them from getting changed, but opening a link in a new tab with a middle-click or Ctrl + left-click isn't that much extra effort.
