Sorry...I updated details about my phone...
I've tried the following and no joy. It didn't solve the issue I am having. Does anyone know if MSI is working on a BIOS update. Apple tech support says it's not their problem and suggested I look for a BIOS update from my motherboard manufacturer. I see some of the other vendors have posted updates.

I worked fine in Windows XP.
In any case it has been solved for me at least by following these steps found on the Apple Discussion board:
1) Download the Chipset Utility from http://downloadcenter.intel.com/confirm.aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror.intel.com/18052/a08/infinst911_autol.exe&agr=&ProductID=&DwnldId=18052&strOSs=&OSFullName=&lang=eng
2) Ran the infinst911_autol.exe using the -a command flag
3) Noted that it installs the files in C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\InfInst\Inf\WIN7 directory.
4) Close all programs currently running on the system.
5) Open Device Manager
6) Select "Devices by connection" under the View menu.
7) Opened ACPI x64-based PC
8) Opened Microsoft ACPI-Compliant System
9) Opened PCI bus
10) Repeat the following for each of the entries
a) Right Mouse Click on entry
b) Select Update Driver Software
c) Select "Browse from my computer for driver software
d) place C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\InfInst\Inf\WIN7 in the location edit box
e) Make sure that Include Subfolders is checked
f) Click Next and follow directions
NOTE: Some entries are up to date, others are not. Some entries after updating require reboot.
Hope this helps. -
I keep getting this message and don't know what to do to fix it. I've checked and I have both the latest operating system and iTunes. I also have the latest O/S for the iPhone 4S,
Has anyone else seen this message and figured out how to fix it?
MikeThis could be caused by a USB connection issue. Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to the Mac using the USB cable it came with. Also, try disconnecting all other USB devices.
If you haven't already try resetting the iPhone by holding the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons until you see an Apple logo as described here:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305743 -

I have an Ipod touch 8GB, an Imac and an apple laptop. I have had this Ipod for years and it has been synced at different times to my Imac and laptop. Recently the battery ran way down on my Ipod. I plugged it into my Imac. After it charge I had to restore it. After I restored it Itunes couldn't connect to it because, "An unknown error occurred". I tried to connect it to Itunes on my laptop and got the same error message. I have tried different USB cables. Since Itunes won't connect, I can't do another restore. I don't know what do try from here.
Some additional info that might be related to this. Just before this Ipod problem came up I crashed my hard disk on the Imac. I had to erase it and reload all my stuff (I was able to copy the contents to a hard drive connected to my laptop using the firewire - I couldn't use time machine because of the crashed HD.) My Imac has been restored to the latest Itunes - I am running OSX 10.6.8.Thanks for the help Ricky.
I did put my iPod into DFU and iTunes recognized it in restore mode. After restore I am back where I was before - iTunes cannot connect because of an unknown error.
I have installed Jailbreak to see if I can bypass itunes but haven't succeeded. I can't get my computer to recopgnize the iPod as a device.
I'll take it to a Genius bar next time I am in the area of one. Until then I'll probably continue to try hacks to get it connected.
