Getting the G4 to shut up

My G4 makes so much noise that I leave it switched off most of the time. The fans run at full speed the whole time it's on. I have looked into replacing whatever needs to be replaced. Are cheap generic (ie for Windows boxes) fans, power supply etc compatible? The only Mac-specific parts I have found, including third-party, seem way overpriced, and I'm not that confident that they would solve the problem. Having just converted a Windows PC to silent operation easily and cheaply, I am hoping that it can be done with a Mac - also cheaply and easily. There are a few websites that mention modifications to G4s to quieten them down, but information on what's compatible and what isn't seems to be somewhat vague. Has anyone here managed to overcome this kind of problem with the G4?

In the process of shutting off, my iPhone 4 froze. The little scrolling circle just keeps displaying. I can't get it to connect ot iTunes or to my charger. So far, nothing I have done has changed anything.

Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an  appears. This should take about 8 seconds, and it reboots the phone. If it doesn't something is seriously trashed in your iPhone's memory.
You can then try a forced restore. Restart your computer, launch iTunes, put the iPhone in the cradle and hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons for a long time (20 seconds). This puts the phone in Recovery mode, and it should prompt you to restore the phone.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using Dr.Web Light from the App Store. It's free, and since it's from the App Store, it won't destabilize the system. If you prefer one of the better known commercial products, then Thomas recommends using Sophos.(Thank you to Thomas Reed for these recommendations.) If you already use Sophos, then be aware of this if you are using Mavericks: OS X Mavericks- Sophos Anti-Virus on-access scanner versions 8.0 - 9.1 may cause unexpected restarts
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • HT4623 the Icons on my iphone 4...suddenly get extreemly large, I don't know why.  I can't use the phone when this happens, I have to shut off the phone, which is a problem, just finding the red arrow and making it go across the screen to shut down...help

does anyone know what is going on with my phone?  I don't think I'm causing this, but you never know.  my home page where the phone, camera, messages, etc...all the icons will get giant....maybe 3 will be on the screen instead of the normal 20.....I have to move the screen around to find what I need to open and then I cannot...so I turn off the phone, when the red arrow appears, and have to hold down one side of the screen to make the arrow move, If I try to slide it over with my finger..........I can't get it to the end.....eventually the phone will shut off and then I turn it on again and the icons are normal....but this happens several times a week and I would like it not to happen , what can I do?

Thank You, thank You ...so much......that feature made me crazy!

    Hello Theresa818,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities!
It sounds like the cellular data will not activate for some reason on the iPad.
I found this article that will help you resolve this issue here, named iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular Models): Troubleshooting a cellular data connection, found here http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4249
Check for a carrier settings update.
    Update your iPad.
Toggle the Cellular Data setting off and on under Settings > Cellular Data.
    Restart your iPad.
Tap Settings > General > About. Locate the Carrier entry and make sure that your carrier is correct.
If your SIM card has SIM PIN enabled, try turning it off: Tap Settings > Cellular Data > SIM PIN.
Make sure you're in an area of good coverage. If the cellular data connection works in another area, contact your carrier to report the original affected area.
Reset network settings: Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    Restore the iPad as new.
If none of the above steps resolves the issue, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, contact your carrier, or contact AppleCare to troubleshoot further.
I know you may have done one or two of the steps here, so you can skip those.
    Take care,
    Sterling
