Getting the Right Connections

Lo and behold but what did I get from my daughter and son in law this AM but an Apple TV! I had a bad enough time putting together my AV receiver and HD TV (both made by Sony) and now I am a bit uncertain as to how to connect the Apple TV to my existing setup. The instructions are clear enough - the Apple TV should be connected to the HD TV - but if I do it this way, I don't think that I'm going to get the sound coming through the AV receiver to the 5.1 speaker setup that I now have.
The AV receiver has 3 HDMI inputs in the back and their status at the present is as follows
1. connects to the PVR
2. connects to the BlueRay player
3. unused
The single HDMI OUT port on the back of the AV Receiver goes to one of three HDMI IN ports on the back of the HD TV. So the big question for me is -
Can I connect the Apple TV to the last unused HDMI input on the receiver instead of the TV and still have things work properly?

Correct. If you wanted to though you could connect AppleTV optical ut to the Av receiver.

In theory yes, though AppleTV doesn't lways like connecting via amps or HDMI switches - chances are it'll work fine. Most issues occur when people change input on amp and AppleTV gets HDMI confusion as its no longer selected - this happens in some cases, not all.

How many have you got authorized?

i have been upgrading a few standard itunes albums to itunes plus versions through my 3g mobile broadband connection, while not exactly a fast process, it was working fine until i started to get a backlog of 3 or 4 albums which were waiting in a queue to be downloaded, now every time i do the "check for downloads" option i get the "internet connection timed out" error message...this has been going on for 2 days! am i right in suspecting the backlog of albums is too much for my 3g mobile broadband connection? this is really doing my head in, if any of you techies could help me, it'd be much appreciated...?

yes i have recently updated to itunes 8.2.1, but i am starting to think its apple's servers (i tried to download at my brothers house...different computer and connection...same connection timeout error), because it will still let me download an album, but not necessarily all of the tracks. when i questioned itunes customer services about the seemingly hit and miss state of affairs with downloading, they told me to wait 3 weeks before trying to download the tracks that were giving me the grief (2 tracks from an arctic monkeys album)...which kinda indicates they know there is a problem and are trying to fix it, why else would they say wait 3 wks??? they gave me 5 free music tracks too, which is handy.

Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address shown starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make/model, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

When downloading apps from a Mac, any apps downloaded in iTunes are for iOS devices.
For Mac Apps use the App Store app.
You can connect iTunes Store Support but I doubt they will give you a refund.

The error says database connection error. I am able to connect to the database using sqlplus. I tried to restart the failed worker, but the same error is repeating.
Any help would be appreciated.

One thing which I noticed now is in the apps Tier the
tnsnames.ora under $TNS_ADMIN
shows entry like this:
PROD=
        (DESCRIPTION=

                (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<dbServer>)(PORT=1521))

        )Actually *(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=<appsIPaddress>)(PORT=1521))* this line in the tnsnames.ora is not correct. In fact the appsServerName should be replaced with dbServerName
I deleted the tnsnames.ora and reran autoconfig but it is again recreating the same entry.
Any clue how this can be fixed?

Problem in getting the database connection from a connection pool

I am facing a problem in getting the database connection from a connection pool created on weblogic server 8.1.
I am using the Oracle database 8.1.7.
I have configured my connection pool, datasource and JNDI in weblogic.
In my java program i have the following code to retrieve the connection.

Is there any way that i can get rid of those ht.put statements or any other way to solve the problem.

I keep getting "the network connection could not be established" message when trying to update my iPad, iPad2 and iPhone4 devices using either my iMac or MacBook. The Macs and iOS devices are apparently working correctly otherwise. Problem started about a day ago when I connected one of the iPads to my iMac and iTunes notified my of an update for the device. I tried and got the above message. Tryied other iPad2 and iPhone4 and get the same message. Also, get same message when trying to update using the MacBook. My system SW is 10.7.3 on the iMac and 10.6.8 on MacBook. iTunes is version 10.6. Have gone thru the check list of things to check and have re-started. Would appreciate any ideas. Thanks.

Another user named Springbk posted a fix that worked for me as I was having the same problem today:
I Changed my DNS settings to OpenDNS
On a Mac go to SYSTEM PREFERENCES>NETWORK>ADVACED>DNS
change DNS by adding ( + )
208.67.222.222
then
208.67.220.220
click okay/apply after. then try the update. after the update, just delete the two open DNS server numbers. should revert back to your old one.

Got this error code about a year ago. downloaded a manual fan program that has helped but every third day or so it crashes and when i try reboot i get the dreaded question mark. usually if i let it rest for an hour or two it fires up but i don't want to risk anymore.

I suspect a failed HD, in that case I'd recommend Apple Hardware Test in Extended Mode at least 3x. You will need the original install discs that shipped with the computer, if you do not have them any longer you will need to order a replacement set from Apple by calling AppleCare. You will need a credit card and the serial number of the machine. The cost should be nominal.

There is an option in your Lightroom preferences on the General tab, "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate images". If you have that option checked then Lightroom will import and display both your raw and JPEG files. Are you using active D-lighting on your camera? If you are then you need to turn off that feature.

I believe that l made all the right connections to my tv and shared communities onm my computer and apple tv. But l rented "Fair Game" from iTunes Store and when it is downloading it comes with "Error in downloading" do it later. It hasn't after 2 days.

yeah I have been putting in a suggestion every few months since the release of apple tv 2.
still just a sad face for us who would find that useful.
I keep hoping that the cycnical view is not correct - that they are only interested in updating the cash register part of streaming/rental/channels apple tv, not the user experience of the people who have been loyal customers for years and actually bought stuff.
