Getting the value of a html:text property in javascript function
Hi all,
I am using struts framework and I need to get a value in a textfield both in java part and javascript part
<td><html:text property="identityNumber"> </td>
I dont know how can I reach the value user entered in that field in the javascript function
function verifyID(){
var identityUserEntered = ????
alert(identity);
}
the javascript expression document.forms[0].identityNumber.value should do it.
You do realise you can't run java and javascript at the same time though right? The only way javascript can communicate with java is to submit an http request (normally submit form)

I need to overwrite the value of my html:hidden tag using javascript, but I dont know how?
Any help?
Thankswhat are you talking about :x
thats a webapplication question, wrong forum..
But you are using STRUTS I would say...
<html:hidden property="hiddenfield"/>This is the proper way of doing it.. but overrighting it
I don't think you understand why we use that?
It is only for forms.... we use that for hidden input ... It is common sence not to overrde that value. -

How to get the value of an input text in a table
all,
i have an adf table component on my jsf page and i added an input text component to one of the table columns. how do i access the value of that input text in my backing bean? normally, i would just do a getValue(), but because the input text is in the table i'm assuming it has to be treated as an array somehow.
any help would be appreciated,
paul
btw. jdev 10.1.3Frank,
I found a solution to fetching the column values. I created a transient attribute on my view object and bound my column to the transient attribute. Then I used this post from Duncan Mills
http://groundside.com/blog/DuncanMills.php?title=adf_validation_context_in_a_jsf_table&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1
to get to the data by looping through the table rows.
However, I'd still like to use the value from this transient attribute in logic to populate some other columns in the table. I
for example, here's the content of what's submitted:
name phone transient
==== ===== =======
paul null 555
mary null 444
In my backing bean I'd like to get the rows from the table and read the value of the transient attribute, pass it through a function, and set the value of the column phone to some value for each row. Then have that processed to update the db. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Paul -
How can i get the value from a HTML Form
hi,
I am using HTML form (logfrm). there are userId field,password field, submit button,reset button, and a link.
when i click on the link, it should fetch the value of userid.
How it is possible?
AEuse jsp:
which lets you embed java statments in your html -so you when you click on the link you can use request.getParameter("userID") to get the userid.
Ideally with html forms use a combination of jsp and java beans, where the fields in the form are also fields in your java bean, which you can access through setters and getters.
google for some jsp tutorials. -
How can I get the value of a custom property from a resource object?
I am trying to get the value(s) of a custom property, called "status" within a method. The method has an object of type IResource available to it.
I have tried the following:
PropertyName propName = new PropertyName("","status");
value = res.getProperty(propName).toString();
However, I am getting a NullPointerException when I try to create the PropertyName instance.
Is there a better way to get the value of a specific property from a resource object?
Thanks,
TomThanks Praveen.
I was missing the default namespace of "http://sapportals.com/xmlns/cm" - I thought I could just pass an empty string for the namespace, but it looks like I must always specifiy, even if it is default.

Getting the value of a dynpro field in an exit for a standard search help.
Hallo Experts!
I need to modify the selected data displayed in standard sap search help: H_T357
What I've done is create an exit for the search help.
Then, when CALLCONTROL-STEP = 'DISP' I use the function module F4UT_PARAMETER_VALUE_GET and I get the value of the parameter 'WERKS' correctly. I think that this function module can only obtain values from the parameters of the search help. Well, here is the problem, I would like to get the values of dynpro fields
'ILOA-STORT' and 'VIQMEL-QMART' (warning type) in transaction IW21.
I prefer not to add these fields as parameters to the standard search help: H_T357.
Any ideas for getting the value of these fields? I've seen functions modules: F4UT_GET_ENVIRONMENT and F4UT_SH_SIC_GET_FIELDS. But I don't know if I can use them for my porpuses.
Thanks a lot in advance.Hello again,
I have already solved the problem using function module 'DYNP_VALUES_READ'.
Thanks, David. -

How can i get the value of an jcombobox in a japplet into my html/jsp page
hii
i hav a japplet which contains an editable jcombobox
which i have embedded into my jsp page .Now i want to get the value of jcombobox in my japplet into a taxt box in my .jsp page which will change as the value of jcombobox changes .Now in doing this i guess i will have to writer some public event in my japplet which will return the value into my web page .
Now in doing so my first problem is to refer the japplet from my jsp page .In case of ordinary applets which does nt use swing i hav used id attribute in my applet tag and the document recognize it as its object just like any other html controls.
but here although my japplet is running after installing plug -in the document is not regognizing the japplet .I hav tried with both <object > and <applet> tag .
The name attribute in object tag is only changing the name of the class into that name given in the name attribute in the browser .
I need to solve this out .Any help will be greatly appreciatedPlease help me .Its very urgent

I need to get the value of a text field that is located in another page JSP
I need to get the value of a text field that is located in another page JSP. How do I do that?
Well you see, I have a page at angelfire.com, which
does not support JSP. I want to call a script located
at mycgisever and then, when pressing a link on the
former page, the JSP page is loaded, and the script
get the value from the text field on the OTHER page.
Is this possible?I know nothing about cgi. But that should not prevent me from understanding what can and cannot be done, assuming cgi is sort of comparable with jsps.
I'm unable to understand your description clearly. Try to explain it better. Give precise steps that you intend to follow and I should be able to help you further.
So you have a page1.
You hit submit from page1.
That goes to the cgiserver.
From the cgiserver, programmatically load up the jsp.
search this for the text field.
Display it on your page2.
Is that what you are trying to do?
BTW, won't be able to help you with cgi scripting at all. Can help with Java and Jsp. -

NullPointerException - Cannot get the value from variable f_cashGiven
In SubCheckout.java (a POS), what I want is when Payment button (f_cashPayment) is pressed, the action "Cash" is performed, get the value from Cash Given (f_cashGiven), do the subtraction and post the value as Cash Return (f_cashReturn). The code is filled in actionPerformed. But I cannot get the value by using f_cashGiven.getValue() from VNumber class. It returns NULL. This should be quite straight forward, but I do not know what is wrong. Please help!

How to get the value from select tag
I am trying to do the exactly same thing as this select Demo does. I can not find out a way to get the value form the first select menu and use it to get all the values to form the second select menu.
here is the web: http://www.4al.pl/phpAjaxTags/ . I am trying to do the same thing as the first demo shows!
Here is part of my code:
<!-->create the database connection <-->
<%
//Load the MySql Driver.
Class.forName("com.mysql.jdbc.Driver");
String url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/JunkDB";
java.sql.Connection con = java.sql.DriverManager.getConnection(url, "", "");
java.sql.ResultSet rsMake = con.createStatement().executeQuery("SELECT DISTINCT make FROM make_and_model ORDER BY make");
String strMake= "";%>
<!--Display the make list-->
<html:select property="make" value="make" size="1" name="make">
<html:option value="---Select a Make ----"></html:option>
<%while (rsMake.next()) {
strMake = rsMake.getString("make");
System.out.println("\tmake= " + strMake );%>
<html:option value="<%=strMake.toString()%>"></html:option>
<%} //end while loop
//<!--Display the model list-->%>
</html:select>
<html:select property="model" value="model" size="1" name="model">
<html:option value="---Select a model ----"></html:option>
<%java.sql.ResultSet rsModel = con.createStatement().executeQuery("SELECT model FROM make_and_model WHERE make='" + strMake //I want to put the value of the MAkE over here so I can get the models form database+ "' ORDER BY model");%>
<%while (rsModel.next()) {
String strModel = rsModel.getString("model");
System.out.println("\tmodel= " + strModel );%>
<html:option value="<%=strModel.toString()%>"></html:option>
<%} //end while loop
con.close();
System.out.println("connection closed");%>
</html:select>
<p><input id="notify" name="notify" class="notify" size="24" disabled="disabled" type="text"></p>
<hr><br>
</html:form>So how can I get the value of "make" so I can get all models for this kind of "make" ??
Am I doing it right ??? Or I am going to a wrong direction ???
Thanks for any input . I am new with JSP and strutsHi Sakthi,
Yo can use the Java script for that..
Dynamically the value will come into text box.
Use the below script.
<script type="text/javascript">
function disFormItems()
var lReturn = $v(here your select list name)
alert(lReturn);
document.getElementById(here your text box name).value =lReturn; }
</script>Cheers,

How to get the value from a database without submitting a jsp page
I have a jsp which has a text box depending on the value entered I want to get the value from a database for other two fields with out submitting jsp page. I am using struts.
Thanks For any assistance provided.Alright,here is an example for you for the first case.
Present.jsp:
============
<html:html>
<head>
<title><html:message key="page.title"/></title>
</head>
<body>
<html:form action="ChangeEvent.do">
<html:hidden property="method"/>
<!-- Submitting the Form onKeyUp of EmpId field and trying to save the
state of the Form in the scope of session -->
Emp Id:<html:text property="empId" size="5" onkeyup="if(true){this.form.elements[0].value='populateDetails';this.form.submit();}"/>
Emp Name:<html:text property="empName" size="10" />
Email Address:<html:text property="email" size="10" />
<html:submit>Submit</html:submit>
</html:form>
</body>
</html:html>struts-config.xml:
==================
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
<!DOCTYPE struts-config PUBLIC "-//Apache Software Foundation//DTD Struts Configuration 1.1//EN" "http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/dtds/struts-config_1_1.dtd">
<struts-config>
<!-- Form bean which stores the properties of all the Form elements -->
<form-beans>
<form-bean name="employeeFormBean" type="org.apache.struts.action.DynaActionForm">
<form-property name="empId" type="java.lang.String"/>
<form-property name="empName" type="java.lang.String"/>
<form-property name="email" type="java.lang.String" />
</form-bean>
</form-bean>
<action-mappings>
<action path="/ChangeEvent" type="Test.GetChangeAction" name="employeeFormBean" scope="request" parameter="method">
<!-- On successful call of DB the Page has to be forwarded to the same page again by
uploading updated form bean values. -->
<forward name="success" path="/Present.jsp"></forward>
<forward name="failed" path="/error.jsp"></forward>
</action>
</action-mappings>
</struts-config>GetChangeAction.java:
=====================
public class GetChangeAction extends DispatchAction{
public ActionForward populateDetails(ActionMapping mapping,ActionForm form, HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response) throws Exception {
DynaActionForm dForm = (DynaActionForm)form;
String empId = dForm.get("empId");
// calling Model / Db and then getting back Employee Details
EmployeeBean eb = ModelUtils.getDetails(empId);
// Updating form bean by updating values from the Model
dForm.set("empName".eb.getEmpName());
dForm.set("email".eb.getEmail());
return mapping.findForward("success");
}well to me this should work regardless to any browser but we need to make sure we put in our logic properly. -
Get the values of the list that exist in bean
Hello to all the programmers ,
I have a list that i initialize in the action (it's can be also servlet in pure j2ee) , the list is exist in the bean and then i used that list in the jsp page getting it from the bean.
I pass over the list by logic iterate and show each object of the list , till this point it's work fine.
Each of the object in the list has an attribute that used for the radio for selection , the problem is how do i get the selection of the user from the jsp.
My code is here :
The action from (Bean) :
public class userBean extends ActionForm {
private String firstName = null;
private String lastName = null;
private List theList = null;
public String getFirstName() {
return firstName;
public void setFirstName(String firstName) {
this.firstName = firstName;
public String getLastName() {
return lastName;
public void setLastName(String lastName) {
this.lastName = lastName;
public List getTheList() {
return theList;
public void setTheList(List theList) {
this.theList = theList;
}The Object that the list contain :
public class userDetails {
private String firstName = null;
private String lastName = null;
private int selection = 0;
public userDetails(String firstName, String lastName, int selection) {
super();
this.firstName = firstName;
this.lastName = lastName;
this.selection = selection;
public String getFirstName() {
return firstName;
public void setFirstName(String firstName) {
this.firstName = firstName;
public String getLastName() {
return lastName;
public void setLastName(String lastName) {
this.lastName = lastName;
public int getSelection() {
return selection;
public void setSelection(int selection) {
this.selection = selection;
}The action that contain the list for the jsp :
public class userAction extends Action{
@Override
public ActionForward execute(ActionMapping mapping, ActionForm form,
HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
throws Exception {
ArrayList listNames = new ArrayList ();
listNames.add(new userDetails("Joe","Pashi",0));
listNames.add(new userDetails("Moshe","Yaniv",0));
listNames.add(new userDetails("Bill","Clinton",0));
listNames.add(new userDetails("Bill","Gatez",0));
listNames.add(new userDetails("John","Kendi",0));
((userBean)form).setTheList(listNames);
ActionForward forward = mapping.findForward("userDetails");
return forward;
}The jsp page the present the list of the objects :
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-bean" prefix="bean" %>
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-logic" prefix="logic" %>
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-nested" prefix="nested" %>
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-tiles" prefix="tiles" %>
<%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsp/jstl/core" prefix="c" %>
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/struts-html.tld" prefix="html"%>
<html:html>
<html:base/>
<body>
<html:form action="/userAction.do">
<html:text property="firstName"></html:text>
<html:text property="lastName"></html:text><br/>
<html:submit value="Click Here"></html:submit>
<br/>
<logic:iterate id="userDetails" name="userBean" property="theList" >
<html:radio name="userDetails" property="selection" value="1"></html:radio>
<bean:write name="userDetails" property="firstName" />
<html:hidden property="firstName" value="${userDetails.firstName}"/>
<bean:write name="userDetails" property="lastName"/>
<br/>
</logic:iterate>
</html:form>
</body>
</html:html>so the big question is how do i get the selection of the user from the bean.
Thanks in advanceHi ,
thanks for asking me.
I will explain that again i have a list of names that i set by the action and then pass it to the jsp.
In the jsp page i show the list of the names and near each name there is a radio button , i want the user select any name from the list to get it from the bean , How do i do that ?
thanks
