The problem with write permissions for the OneDrive folder only shows up in Lightroom 6's export dialogue, that's why it's to irritating. Lightroom 5.7.1 is not having that problem nor does the file explorer. The problem also exists on both of my machines. I am having trouble getting my Lightroom 5.0 upgrade to accept my Lightroom 4.4 serial number. I recently installed Windows 8, 64 bit on a second solid state HD on my computer (had a virus problem for which I had to format C and reinstall everything). The new ss HD is drive C and my operating system and my programs are all installed there. All my documents and files are now stored on my original, reformatted drive, which is now drive D. I was using Windows 7, 64 bit. Could all this be the reason my serial number is not being recognized? PHH

Yes Lightroom 5 takes the Serial Number of each previous version and you can do the Upgrade from any 1, 2 3, or 4 version of Lightroom,but somethig different for the Upgrade from the Mac App Store ... see how here: http://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/upgrade-mac-app-version-lightroom.html
you installed Windows 8 and installing only the operating system, but keeping all the app certainly and during the operation something can be lost, especially if you run Clean after installing the system by deleting the folder containing the old system, it's better to wait to do so.
However, no problem, because to do the 'Upgrade all you need is the old serial number and don't need Lightroom4 to be installed on your machine ...

Hello Experts., I would like to use only Lightroom but current set up by Adobe will force me to get Photoshop along with Lightroom. Is there any way where I can get only Lightroom and pay for the same.

In the present set up by Adobe if one need Lightroom alone, they have to get and pay for Photoshop also Which I am not interested. Is there any way I can get only Lightroom.? Please help.

Just for clarity, the strict answer to your question is "no": you can't get just Lightroom for the same price as the Lr/Photoshop Creative Cloud (CC) bundle.
You can buy a stand-alone licence for Lightroom alone - that's what Don and Elie have helped you to find - but the pricing (and licencing) arrangements are entirely different to those which make up the CC bundle.
Note too, it's likely that Lightroom 6 will be coming before long (although how long is not known): you will almost certainly have to pay for the upgrade to Lr 6 if you're on a stand-alone licence, whereas moving from 5 to 6 (and to 7 and to...) is included in the price of the bundle.

To delete the preview cache, do this:
1. Quit Lightroom.
2. In your Operating System, locate your Lightroom catalog. Typically catalogs are in /Pictures/Lightroom on Mac and My Pictures\Lightroom on Windows.
3. Find the folder whose name ends with "Previews.lrdata" and delete it. (note, you may also have a folder whose name ends with "Smart Previews.lrdata." You shouldn't need to delete that one.)

I am six minutes into the video and while Jan is doing a great (terrific, actually) job of explaining things I already know, she has yet to explain the subject issue. So I am unsure what "at the beginning" means... is there a time-marker for the point you are referring to?
Anyway, I have Lightroom v5.5 and Photoshop CC 2014 installed on two machines -- a Win v8.0 Laptop and a Win v8.1 Desktop. Adobe Camera Raw (in Photoshop) is v8.5 on the Laptop and v8.2 on the Desktop. Therefore when I "edit in" in Photoshop on the Desktop I, too, get the OP's error message. When I use the "Update" option under the "Help" menu in Photoshop (on the Desktop), I am told that all the programs are "Up-to-date."
Does anyone know how to force an ACR update? In other words is there an "install" process somewhere?
Edit: Jan's explanation of the error message starts a the 31:50 mark. It does not, however, answer my question about updating Photoshop CC 2014.

i upgraded from lightroom 4 to lightroom 5 and installed it on a separate hard drive. Initially had no problems util my computer crashed due to the failure of the drive on which Lightroom 5 was installed. Since having my computer rectified, i am unable to use lightroom 5 getting the message "lightroom encountered an error when reading from its preview cache and needs to quit"
I can still use lightroom 4, however, i get the same message when i try to backup the catalog. This occurs during the optimisation phase of backup.
I suspect it is related to Lightroom 5 creating a catalog from the Lightroom 4 files and cannot now locate those files or that they have been corrupted.
Would appreciate any solutions / suggestions.

You need to delete your preview cache and have Lightroom rebuild it. Cache location can be found here.

How do I get my lightroom pictures (thumbnails, grid and loupe) back?

I have lightroom 4.2 and have been using it for about two months on a Windows 7 64 bit system. Last Friday ALL pictures - the thumbnails, and the pictures in the grid and the loupe views disappeared and were replaced by grey rectangles. See screen shot:
I have tried using backup catalogs and other possible fixes but nothing has worked. Today I uninstalled Lightroom, moved the remaining Lightroom files - catalog, backups, etc. - and reinstalled Lightroom. I then created a new catalog. But once again all I get are grey rectangles rather than previews. As can be seen, the catalog contains the information about the photos. I just can't see them. And that is pretty crucial in a photo editing program!
I'm stumped and need some help, please.

Many thanks to jim01403. I had managed to have the the pictures
reappear after doing many things including making some changes to the monitor's settings. Until I read the post from jim01403, I did not know how I had retieved those pictures. Now I believe that resetting the monitor profile is what corrected my problem. I've saved the location of the instructions for resetting the monior profile to an sRGB standard.

Can't get into Lightroom

Hi all. For some reason I can't access Lightroom on my new windows 8 computer. Some background.... I had a windows 7 computer with Lightroom 5 from a disk loaded on it. Worked fine . Then I downloaded the Lightroom update 5.7. Lightroom has not worked since . I would get these messages.... Lightroom encountered an error when reading from it's preview cache and needs to quit, and also this message , ..... Lightroom will attempt to fix this problem the next time it launches. I just got a new windows 8 computer so I loaded the Lightroom 5 from the disk on it. Same problem !! Went to add/ remove and removed Lightroom. Then I downloaded the latest version of Lightroom { 5.7.1 } Same messages as before with no acess to Lightroom. If I try to click off the message box, Lightroom disappears completely. Any ideas? Thank you.

Need to get my lightroom account back onto a new laptop

Hi there, I recently got a new laptop and want to continue with on the lightroom account that I was active on, on my previous laptop. I downloaded lightroom software on the new laptop but now get a prompt "30 day trial or serial number".
I pay monthly subscription fee and do not want a trail and I cannot find a serial number on my adobe account.
Can someone please help me to get back into the lightroom that is registered on my account. I emailed support 2 weeks ago but now help on this matter was provided so I am desperate.
I read sometime ago that I should not lose all my previous edited work when switching laptops.

Wookieutah did you have a previous version of Lightroom installed? Or did you have Lightroom 3 installed previously on your system? We do have some general suggestions which you can try to solve the issue in Troubleshoot system errors and freezes | Adobe software on Windows.

It sounds as if the version of Safari you downloaded and installed is causing some issues. I would suggest you reinstall Safari from an Apple source. In order to do that you will need to reinstall the Mac operating system. See this article for how -

I have recently purchased a Macbook that does not have a disc drive. I do not know how to get my photoshop or lightroom programs onto my new computer. I have also updated lightroom online and have a newer version than what i installed via CD years ago. Anyone have any information on this?
