Getting Video From My IPod, Onto The TV

I have a monster cable that I bought, and I hooked it up to the TV and just got sound. Can anybody help with the getting the video on there part?

that red and blue monster cable is a sound only cable. There is another type of cable that looks similar but "splits" into 3 ends, 2 for sound, 1 for video - most people call it an AV Cable, or a mini-plug to Av Cable, or some variation of that.
If you have a Apple iPod AV doc:
For video: you should go buy an S-video cable (better quality). plug it into the dock and into your TV. make sure to switch your tv to the video source that corresponds with your cables (eg, video 1, video 2).
For sound: Your current cable will work for sound just fine. The mini plug side goes into line out, the other side goes into your stereo/tv (the red one goes to red, the blue one goes to white).
if you DO NOT have an Apple AV dock
You need to go buy an AV cable from apple or radio shack.
one end looks like a normal headphone plug and goes into you ipod.
the other end splits into 3 connectors, usually colored Yellow, Red and White. If you describe it to them at radio shack this way they will know what you mean.
Yellow = video
Red and White = sound
(if the colors don't match exactly your still probably ok, but I would be concerned that its not a standard AV cable if they don't give you a cable with at least one connector that is colored Yellow)
IMPORTANT NOTE: I have had problems getting some AV cables to work with an ipod, so the guaranteed route is to get the one from apple.

  • Is there a way to get music from your iPod onto the computer?

I recieved most of the music that is currently on my iPod from my cousin, but if i want to add some of MY music to the iPod then i have to erase all of her music off of it! Is there a way to save the music that is already on there and then put it back on the iPod once it has been erased?

First of all try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
There is also CopyPod. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.

It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from your ipod.  Without syncing:  File>Transfer Purchases

For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.

  • I have a 120gb Classic that has no space left on it. i am going to buy a larger gb capacity ipod as soon as i get clearer instruction on how to get the old ipod content to the new ipod. How do you get content from one ipod to the other?

how do you get content from one ipod to the new one? my content is on an external hard drive not on my pc and i have run out of space on my 120gb classic. can you get old ipod content to new? my itunes has only got short cuts, the real content is on an external drive? can this be done?? please help

If the content is on an external drive, but your library knows where to find it, then it should all work. Connect your device, make some selections for what to put on it, and sync. If, on the other hand, your current iPod is the only place holding some of your media then see this user tip: Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Can't get songs from my iPod into the library on my new mac

I recently had to get a new hard-drive on my dell laptop, and iTunes was uninstalled from the computer. When I re-installed iTunes, my iPod was not being recognized by the laptop, so none of my songs on my iPod were in the library anymore.
Now I have a new MacBook, and my iPod is being recognized, but I can't get most of my songs from my iPod into the library in iTunes.
I'm sure there is an easy solution, but I can't figure it out!
    Any help is much appreciated!!!

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes

There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

Can someone please help me out and tell me how to get music from my iPod on to my computer hard drive?

  • If you sync your ipod to one computer, then u sync it to another can you get the music from your ipod onto the new computer?

i had my ipod synced to one computer. Then that computer died. i want to add more music from another computer, but i dont want to lose my music now. how can i do this?

No. Music only syncs one way - computer to iPod. You would need to use a third-party utility to transfer music from the iPod to the iTunes Library such as Phone to Mac - Pod to Mac

  • How do I get songs from my Ipod onto Itunes

My computer get a virus and crashed the whole memory had to be erased. I am trying to connect my Ipod with the new Itunes that I installed. How do i get my songs from my old computer onto the new one?

    Hey there,
There are several ways you can pull the music off your iPod and onto iTunes.
There is a very direct method, which I personally prefer, but there are also numerous third party applications, which will help you accomplish the task as well. The link below provides terrific step-by-step instructions for the direct method as well as a few third party applications if you choose to go that route instead.
You can also do a simple google search for "copy music from iPod to computer" and you should receive a number of sites that can help you out.
If you have any purchased from the iTunes store, it would be a good idea to sign in onto your account and authorize the new computer.
Also, when you plug it in, make sure to hit "Cancel" if it opens up iTunes and asks you if you would like to Transfer Purchses, or Erase and Sync.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can you hook up your iPod Touch 4th generation with an HDMI cable to your HDTV and play videos from your iPod to the TV?

I'm trying to find out if I can hook up my iPod touch 4th gen. iOS 5.0.1 to my HDTV with an HDMI cable and have it mirror what I do on the iPod Touch like mirroring videos for example. I need to find out and if so, how?

You can only output content to your TV if the App you are using supports the TV Out functionality. Mirroring is not supported on the iPod Touch.
If you still want to output content from your iPod to your TV, make sure you have the right cables as described here.

I have a brand new mac book pro, I want to plug my iPhone into it & transfer everything from it onto the mac book, pics, music etc. I'm worried if I plug my phone into the Computer I will loose everything. How can I make sure this doesn't happen?

When you plug your iPhone to Mac,click the Summary button and select “Manually manage music and videos".Then iTunes would never delete your original music.
The most easy way to solve your problems is to move your music to your new Mac.Please refer to this article from Apple.com

i have a PC and i had itunes on it with lots of songs. A technician fixed my computer and deleted my itunes on the way. Iv'e reinstalled an itunes programm, how can i transfer the songs from my ipod touch onto the itunes? I'm afraid that if i'll sync the two, the songs from my ipod touch will be deleted since the itunes on my computer is empty

    Transfer iTunes purchases by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer
    - Transfer othre music by using a third-party program like one of those discussed here:
    Copy music
    - Retain app data and other information, connect the iPod to yur computer and make a backup by right clciking on the iPod under Devices in iTunes and select Back Up
    - Restore the iPod from that backup
Note that the Backup that iTunes makes does not include synced media like apps and music.
