Getting video onto my ipod

I am having problems importing video to my itunes. I want to import some of my favourite movies. When I go to import then open. I have a list of options to open from the video file. When I select a variety of the files nothing happens. Is there a specific file I"m suppose to open in order to get my dvd to transfer into my itunes? HOw do I get my movie into itunes?
Thank you

that red and blue monster cable is a sound only cable. There is another type of cable that looks similar but "splits" into 3 ends, 2 for sound, 1 for video - most people call it an AV Cable, or a mini-plug to Av Cable, or some variation of that.
If you have a Apple iPod AV doc:
For video: you should go buy an S-video cable (better quality). plug it into the dock and into your TV. make sure to switch your tv to the video source that corresponds with your cables (eg, video 1, video 2).
For sound: Your current cable will work for sound just fine. The mini plug side goes into line out, the other side goes into your stereo/tv (the red one goes to red, the blue one goes to white).
if you DO NOT have an Apple AV dock
You need to go buy an AV cable from apple or radio shack.
one end looks like a normal headphone plug and goes into you ipod.
the other end splits into 3 connectors, usually colored Yellow, Red and White. If you describe it to them at radio shack this way they will know what you mean.
Yellow = video
Red and White = sound
(if the colors don't match exactly your still probably ok, but I would be concerned that its not a standard AV cable if they don't give you a cable with at least one connector that is colored Yellow)
IMPORTANT NOTE: I have had problems getting some AV cables to work with an ipod, so the guaranteed route is to get the one from apple.

  • Cannot get videos onto 60GB Ipod

Simple question, how do I get videos over to my 60GB Ipod? Very simply Itunes does not let me drag videos onto my ipod device, where it's listed on the left side. The videos are converted and in the proper format for the Ipod.
I got it to work once, but I cannot seem to get it to work anymore.
Just got it today, this thing really does not play well with my PC as I've had many problems updating it right out of the box.

I was having trouble adding some videos to my ipod, and they were ones with really long titles and/or other characters in the title.
When I shortened the title, for some reason, they went on right away.
Don't ask me why, I found this out by accident.
    Worth a try, right?

  • Getting videos onto my ipod

i've downloaded quite a few tv shows from the iTunes music store and want to be able to watch them on my iPod, but every time i try to update my iPod, they don't appear on there. I've tried changing the settings around but nothing has worked so far. any suggestions?

umm im not sure if this is still the case, but for some reason the ipod doesnt have a "tv shows" section. when i tried to put some tv shows that i had downloaded onto my ipod, they would just disappear--theyd be in my ipod, but id have no way to access it because no "tv shows" list would show. i fixed this by going into my itunes, finding the video in my library, right clicking it and selecting "get information," or something like that. from there, one of the tabs should have a place where you can select what to categorize your video under like "tv show, music video, movie" etc. i just change all my tv shows to movies, then make a playlist of them and drag the entire playlist into my ipod. after that, they should show up in your ipod.

  • Getting videos onto my iPod...Help?

Ok, I'm totally clueless about this, but apparently I have to get some type of software to convert DVDs into a format that the iPod can play. Right? This might not be the right place to post, but what do I need to buy, and what brand/type is the best? Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, If you go to versiontracker.com and type in "iSquint" that is the converter you need

  • Getting videos onto your ipod

I purchased an ipod video (30gig) and I am doing fine with it, but how can I put videos on it that arent purchased from itunes. I've downloaded them and draged them into itunes and they show up in the video section. But when I disconnect my ipod and play the video it plays but it has no sound. I am wondering if anyone knows what is going on here.
p.s. the video plays perfectly on itunes with sound but not on the ipod itself

I've been using (quite successfully) Videora iPod Converter and it works so well it blew my mind the first time I used it. Of course I'm a bit of a power user, but the normal mode is so handy I can't help but to use it. Not sure if it works on a mac though. I tried to look, but couldn't find anything that explicitly says mac.

  • How do i get videos onto the new ipod?

haven't been able to figure out how to get videos onto the ipod. tried to click and drag a home video into the video section but that didn't work. any help would be greatly appreciated.
also, where do i go to get an episode to download onto the ipod?

    Hi Sebastian,
Use iTunes to put videos onto your iPod. Make sure you have the newest version (by pressing Help, then selecting check for iTunes updates).
Once you are sure you have the newest version of iTunes, just press File -> add file to library, or drag your video file onto the iTunes library. Then all you need to do is update your iPod.

  • STILL can't get Videos into 5G iPod , Ready to throw it out the window

I'm ready to throw this iPod out the window , I spent all day yesterday over 10 hours , trying to get videos onto my iPod , my iPod software and iTunes are up tp date , first I just drag and dropped them as MPEG no luck iTunes recognized and played them but wouldn't let me drag and drop them to the iPod then I used iSquint , it converted them to MPEG 4 , they transferd into iTunes and played but not the iPod I got an error that they weren't transferable and not recognized by the iPod .
I called Appe this morning and they were no help since I didn't get the Vid's from the appple store and since you only get one free service call ,and wouldn't tell me the format for the videos I didn't want to waste it . They suggested I buy Quicktime Pro .
Then I tried , Movies For My iPod . I used the transfer for iPod option , it converted them to .mp4.m4v . I drag and dropped them directly to the iPod no luck , they're there but wont play or show up in the iPod then I opened up iTunes and drag and droppped them into iTunes again played in iTunes not transfered to the iPod although it said it was updating .
Then ,I tried the custom settings file format MP4 , video format , MPEG-4 Improved , Image Size 320 X 240 QVGA , again I tried to drag and drop them onto the iPod still not there , now I tried to drag and drop unto iTunes , again they're there and play but won't show up on the iPod . I've pretty much had it .
In the Movies For MY iPod they're are some custom settings . File Format MP4(ISMA) In the Video there is an MPEG-4 Improved setting with a bit rate of 256 kbits/sec Image size 320x 240 QVGA frame rate 30 plus alot of other settings which I have no idea what they are .
Today I have 6 hours of frustration into this still no luck . I'm really disappointed with Apple ,I started out with the first iMac a Bondi Blue and have been working my way up , I have an iBook , an iMac Graphite , a G4 iMac a 15G 3G iPod now the 5G iPod . Apple should have included Quick Time pro in the G5 , and only one support call, come on , even Dell gives you a year of support .
And to top it all off the Black is beautiful but scratches easily , I'm a chef , my nails very short and allready it's scratched to bits by the wheel, I keep it in a case when I'm playing it , you can hardly touch it . I'm not very happy with Apple and this iPod , they rushed it out for the holiday , so if your in the jacksonville Florida area look for a flying iPod .

Lets run down a list of possibilities:
    1) You are using iTunes 6 here, correct?
    2) You did not say whether or not you are running in auto-sync, manual management, or "Enable Disk" mode. If you left it in the default mode as installed (auto-sync), then after dropping your movies into iTunes (or adding them to the Library), simply connect your iPod and allow it to auto-sync (mirror) the current contents of iTunes. (You can also try "Update iPod" option under the File menu, but I have found it unreliable -- possibly owing to "sleeping" iPod.)
    3) Not sure if your reference to "dropping the movie on the iPod" is a reference to the iPod desk icon in manua/disk enabled mode or the iPod "Source" reference/associaed contents list in iTunes. Could you clarify where you are attempting to "drag 'n drop" and/or the selected sync mode of operation in your iPod Preferences.
    4) As to conversion to iPod compatible formats, recommend you stick with MoviesForMyPod and/or iSquint if you are restricted to QT Pro 6 and not sure what settings to use for MPEG4 preset collection/QuickTime Movie full manual mode.

  • What do you think is the best way to get DVDs onto your iPod?

I haven't recieved my video iPod yet, its coming in the mail, but I'd like to be ready when I get it. In your opinion, what is the best way to get DVDs onto your iPod?
I have Windows, so Handbreak doesn't work.
I've tried videora, but its taking ages...
    Thanks!
    *Just noticed you can edit*
I would also like to add that I would perfer that it was free...
Videora is driving me up a wall... It still has 3 hours to convert this thing its been going for 10 min and its still at 0%

Depending on the specs of your computer, time taken to convert DVD's to an iPod-playable format can vary. On my computer (see below), it takes about 10 hours to convert a 2-hour DVD to the iPod format, using Videora.
So, due to the extremely large size of the DVD rip, it'll take a while to convert it, regardless of how fast or slow your system is.

  • How to get games onto my ipod

It's possible that it did actually add the game but you're not seeing it in iTunes. Go to iTunes Preferences > General and make sure there's a checkmark next to iPod games.
