Getting wife a new iphone..backup questions
Not too good in using itunes. My wife has an iphone and my limit to itunes is putting some songs on my ipod.
I want to surprise my wife with a new iphone this week and before I get her a new one I want to make sure I save all of her content and most importantly phone numbers because I actually want to clear it out before going to the verizon store because I want to transfer her old iphone to my daughters # and have her start using it.
So I guess my questions are...
How do I first backup all of my wife's content on her phone (phone numbers and photos) ?
After I back it up is there an easy one step process to clear the phone out of everything so I can have my daughter start using it?
Once I bring the new phone home, how do I get the phone #'s onto it that I backed up previously?
Once I transfer her old phone to my daughter do I need to rename the phone or anything since they both use the same computer but have different itunes accounts?

Turning off automatic backup doesn't delete anything from your account, it only stops it from continuing to back up to iCloud. If you want to reduce your iCloud storage, this article provides some suggestions: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4847.

I was always able to get WiFi on my iPhone through my home computer. Then all of a sudden it went out (uses 3G network instead of WiFi). Sometimes it would connect back to WiFi for a few seconds then back to 3G. I then decided it was the modem so I got a new modem. Well, I have no problem getting internet on my home computer but cannot still get WiFi on my iPhone from my computer. What do I need to do - HELP!!

Yes, it worked. First, I just replaced the all info. as before, the router IP also (Stupid) , not success.
So, I created the new network, then, the Router IP automatically showed up .
I think the old setting still there under my Airport station (so, 2 setting right now)?
Anyway, my iPad and iPod touch works well with the new wi-fi network.

How do I create a new Apple ID for wife's new iPhone 6 Plus?
Our family has many Apple Devices (Mac Book Air, iMac, iPhone 6, iPad 3rd Gen. iPod 5th Gen. and as of today a new iPhone 6 Plus. All of our Devices have always been using one Apple ID. This has created zero issues until now. With my wife's new iPhone 6 Plus I downloaded Find Friends and also Find My iPhone. I can't find any way to set up her iPhone 6 Plus tied only to her email address and cell phone number. Whenever I open Find Friends on either device and select the appropriate email address it changes the other device to that email address for Find Friends. I am beginning to think that now with two iPhones we will need to get my wife her own Apple ID. When I went to Create an Apple ID using her email address it won't allow it because her email address is associated as an alternate under my Apple ID. Reading Apple Support documents it shows using a common Apple ID for iTunes and App Store purchases but a separate Apple ID for iCloud if desired. Bottom Line, I think I have to Delete her email address from My Apple ID Account so that I can use that email for her new Apple ID. When I delete her email address from My Apple ID Account isn't that going to impact our shared Apps and iTunes Purchases?

No, she can use the existing AppleID for purchasing and use her own new AppleID for content syncing. If you wish to, you can set up Family Sharing and add her to your iCloud family. That will enable you to share certain resources such as calendars.

I am having trouble with my wife's new iPhone 5s. She can receive her telus email but can not send any email what did I do wrong in setting up her account on her iPhone? I tried to just copy the info from her old iPhone.
The sending of email is accomplished via the SMTP server. Take a moment to get back into Settings>Mail, contacts, calendars and select the account. Go to the SMTP server and check to make sure that username and password are entered in all of the appropriate places. If you cannot get it to work after trying to just change those settings, remove the account from the phone and recreate it. When recreating, make sure you enter the username and password in every location, even if the phone says optional. Make sure you have the settings from either the email provider or from the other device. Make sure that SSL is on or off as necessary.

I just tried to sync my wife's new Iphone with "my" ITunes. Bad mistake!! I guess "my" itunes thought her phone was mine and "somehow" went into "restore" mode and basically turned "her" phone into mine - ie. contacts, photos, etc.
Can your have two phones one Itunes?? Or should I just open a new Itunes account on her computer and "start" from scratch?? If I do the later, how do I transfer all the music on "my" Itunes to hers???You can sync as many iphone/ipads/ipods as you like to one computer/library.

Does anyone how I can get a brand new iPhone 3GS as a warranty replacement for my iPhone 3GS? I already had the phone replaced once with a refurbished phone that has a problem with becoming frozen and unresponsive. This occurred ten times since I got the phone on 4/16/2011. I have tried doing a hard reset and have also restored the phone as a new device. I have an Apple Care plan. I am concerned that the refurbished phones will not be reliable due to my experience with the refurbished one that I got as a replacement.

Dealing through the support mail system, depends on the mail where you are located, time to get to Apple, be evaluated, replacement prepared and shipping back to you. Weeks at least. I should mention that, for the first problem, I do make sure that my new tracks are stored in the folder where I told iTunes that my music is in. Also, when I say the cataloging of my library stops short of cataloging all my songs, I have tried leaving the computer unattended for days (my computer's sleep mode is disabled). It always stops before cataloging all of my music regardless of whether I am doing something else while iTunes is cataloging, or if I just let iTunes be the only program that's open during the cataloging process.

Hi thanks for your reply,I go to settings and touch wifi which says not connected.Then the screen changes to wifinetworks,at the top of the screen.The on/off box shows blue ON.the choose a network search spins for about 3 seconds but never finds the wifi house network.the ask to join networks box show blue ON.I have tried entering my wifi details in this box but no joy,a dark blue box appears saying could not connect to this network.

Can I set up my wife's new iPhone 5 w/o activating it?
i would like to set my wife's Christmas present, a new iPhone 5s before we leave for Mexico. Then on Christmas I want to be able to activate it when I give it to her. I can't exactly activate it now as I would have to turn off her iPhone 4 now and end up blowing the surprise. So, can i download all her settings and so forth now while NOT activating it? And then can I activate it from Mexico? Note: I have the Mexico share everything plan tacked on to my current share everything plan. Thanks in advance.

Great question. What an awesome Christmas gift for your wife. You can download everything on the phone by using her iCloud information on the phone. You would not be able to activate the phone in Mexico as you will not be on Verizon Wireless coverage. You can activate either before you after you get home from a wonderful vacation.

I currently have a ipod touch 5th generation, I use the imessage feature a lot to keep in touch with friends all over the world so it does not cost me on my regular cell plan. Now my quetsion is , if I get the new iphone, I don't want the imessages to come through on my cell because all of my friends who I use this feature with have international numbers. If I am using my ipod for imessaging, do I just need to cut the phone off so I won't get any charges for imessages? I just don't want to get a huge bill for imessages on my cell for international numbers. Also, if I download something like Viber and I use my phone number to converse with international friends over 3G, will this be free as long as I have unlimited texting? Please help, thanks!iMessaging between iOS devices has no carrier chargers for the message delivery itself - it only matters what type of internet data connection your are using.
If your iPhone is on a wifi network, then iMessage is completely free, even if another iMessage user sends to your phone number since iMessages are processed by Apple's equipment, not your cellular carrier's. In that scenario, your telephone number is just another identifier linked to your AppleID and your iMessage account - it is effectively no different than your associated "can be reached at" email addresses also linked to that same AppleID and iMessage account.
However, if you are not connected to a wifi network, and you are using a cellular data connection for internet access, then some data charges may apply, or some data usage may be applied against your service limits (if you have limits). This is because an iMessage over your cellular service data connection is just like any other internet data connection, so your carrier does pass along the data, but they do not process the actual message delivery.
So iMessage is no different than any other internet data messaging service - if you are using a free internet data connection, it is free. If you are using any form of paid internet connection, like your cellelur providers cellular internet connection, then it is effectively not free.
Viber, Skype or any other VOIP service with messaging features has the exact same limitation - they all use an internet data connection, so any charges from your cellular service provider would be related to whether you use those apps & their services over your cellular data connection. If you use those over free wifi connections, then again, there are zero charges from your cellular service provider, who only cares when you are using their data network for your internet access to use your internet-based messaging services.
Note that SMS message are processed by your cellular service provider, but they do not use your cellular internet data connection - SMS is sent over the same channels as a cellular voice call. There is no way to use SMS in an iPhone's messaging app and not pay your carrier something. -
Wife's new iPhone 5 will not sync with MacBook air.
My new iPhone 5 syncs perfectly well via my iTunes account with my MacBook Air. Over time I think my wiofe and I may have shared access to my iTunes account but she definitely has her own as well and there are times I have needed to enter her password when purchasing something and vice versa.
So I tried to back up her old iphone to our (new) MacBook Air. It wouldn't. It seems to want to back up to our old PC. I wanted to set her iPhone 5 up from an IiTunes backup but can't.
What should I do? Set her phone up from new?
Help!The MacBook has my iTunes account and plenty of music, photos, apps etc on it. I tried logging out of my itunes account and into hers but her phone would still not sync with the macbook. How can I get her phone to recognise the macbook and vice versa?

I have a question about the way to use iTunes/iPhone backup in the most efficient way.
Every time I buy a new iPhone and have to put everything I had in the old one in the new one, I am experiencing the following issue.
These are the steps I usually follow:
1) connect the new iPhone to my MAC;
2) when iTunes recognizes it, i select the option to recover from the previous iPhone backup;
3) I let it perform the backup;
4) I select all the applications/videos/photos... etc I want to sync with my iPhone and start the sync.
Result: everything is fine except the positions/locations/order... of the icon applications. I mean everything is fine, up and running but the positions of them is not maintained, since I suppose app is not part of the backup.
For this reason, after the backup, i need some hours to order them again manually, since they are more then 300.
Is there something I am missing or is this a limitation of Apple Backup?

LucaSome users have reported that restoring from backup twice in a row-before that first sync-preserves app folders/location.
