Getting Windows users to chat on Bonjour acct

In my office, we all use Macs and use iChat's Bonjour to message each other. Is there a way a Windows user on our network could join in our Bonjour chats?

They need a Bonjour able app such as Miranda
Trillian can also do Bonjour Chats
Both can connect to other services as well.
Trillian Pro does Video and Audio as well but costs.

Requirement: Get Windows User Name using Oracle Web Forms 6i.
Tools Using: Windows NT, Oracle web forms 6i, Oracle 10g DB.
Description: I am using GetClientInfo JBean from otn.oracle.com, which gets windows user name, IP address and machine name. The demo I got from oracle web site uses Jinitiator version 1.1.7.18. While we are using the latest version Jinitiator 1.3.1.17. Due to this reason, I am unable to use Javakey which comes with older version but doesn't come with newer version, that's why I can't create the new JavaBean Java identity (PJC).
Please advise what to do. All environment variables are set everything is done, this is the only thing bothering me.
I went through the article 202768.1 from metalink, but on step 5, it gives an error keytool error: java.lang.Exception: Input not an X.509 Certificate.
Also, please let me know if there is any other workaround for this requirement.

Thanks for your kind reply. Actually there was a problem in creating a certificate, now it is okay with the same method. Certificate got imported on client and everything is ready.
Now, the problem is when I try to set Bean Area Implementation Class property with oracle.forms.demos.GetClientInfo, it gives an error FRM-13008 Cannot find JavaBean with name 'oracle.forms.demos.GetClientInfo'.
I went through the articles 1072329.6, 196824.1, and set ClassPath and Path variables with proper values. Also, I have copied jar file and signature file in forms60/java folder. I don't see any problems. Please let me know what I am doing wrong. My limitation is that I have to do all this in forms6i.
I searched forums on metalink and found out that someone installed Patch 15, and everything went okay for him. Do you think I should install Patch 15? if YES, how will I do it, I mean should I first uninstall my forms and then install patch15 or install the patch on my forms?

I set the windows authentication mode and impersonate to true. But still I'm not getting the actual windows user name.

Get Windows USER

Hi all.
I want to know if its possible to get the wndows user in the web dynpro application.
I mean if i can get the windows user of the machine in which is running the wdp app.

If you are using webdynpro delivered through EP then you could setup the Windows Authentication template, this would help you to login to EP without a form based login and subsequently to webdynpro app. The user retreived through the UME apis would be the user logged into the machine.

If your clients support PowerShell, you should be able to use the [adsi] accelerator and the ADSystemInfo object to bind to the user object corresponding to the current user on the client and retrieve the values of any AD attributes desired. For example:

Are you asking for the windows login user?
the user id of the account that's running the web application server? or the user id of the client.
The first can probably be done with jni. The second can not be done.

Problems video chatting with Windows users

It seems like everytime I try and video chat with a Windows AIM user there is a problem. Ralph and other are very techy and know how to resolve these issues. Problem is that 99.9999999% of te people I chat with are not so the advice to resolve these issues proves to be worthless. However me and this individual were able to successfully do audio chat instead. Often when there is a problem like this do I switch people over to Skype which works far better going from Windows to Mac and vice versa and is easier to use. Generally I think iChat has better video quality over Skype, but only with Mac users.
I know there are others here that also have this problem and for you do I encourage the same resolution as bad as it is, but it seems to be the only way to chat with a non techy person who is on a PC.

Any non Microsoft app on a PC has to allowed through the Firewall as a Exception (Or at least since Service Pack 2 for XP when Windows got a firewall).
In XP it goes like this
Open the Control Panels (I prefer the classic view)
Open the Firewall
Click the Exceptions tab
In the new window click the Add Button
Navigate through Program Files to the AIM Folder and the relevant AIM#.exe to allow the app itself. (# is the Version Master number)
Back in the Exceptions window also Allow UPnP
Enable UPnP in their Router.
I am not sure it is that different in Vista or Window 7
If there router does not have UPnP then open port 5190 and 1024-5000 (AIM video does not use all of these they are there to spread the load)
They would have to do similar things for Skype (although like AIM it has Fall Back ports below 1024 for logging in and Text Chatting that get around the firewall issue) other IM apps and On-line Games.
Of course if they are using some third party Firewall they would have to do the work there.
Audio Chats V VIdeo Chats
Both apps use the same ports when it comes to Audio and Video Chats (Tend to be the iChat ones)
I believe AIM still uses 4 ports (from the 1024-5000 range) for VId In, Vid Out, Audio In, Audio out, much the same way iChat 2 and 3 did.
It may pay for you to go to iChat > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth limit and try either 500kbps or 200kbps as the setting.
In earlier version of AIM (5.5 anbd 5.9) it was possible to reduce the Video quality at the AIM end (less frames per second) which allowed "Space" for the Audio part.
AIM 6.x onwards does not have this and the Video feed can be particularly Processor hungry. Your lower setting will be fed back to them and their end will make an adjustment of what can be sent.
Some of this knowledge has taken me since 2004 to acquire.
I can see that applying it might be considered "techy"
I can appreciate that it can be very difficult to persuade a Windows user to change any setting once they have their machine "working" (at least as they want).
I realise this was not so much of a Question as being more of a discussion statement.
I am not sure that there is a real answer other than the one you suggest.

I tried to configure 2 windows users accounts using a single library per the instructions in HT1203. My iTunes library is on an external drive. I cannot get this to work. Any suggestions?

To give other users read-only access to your iTunes library, use the Sharing features of iTunes. Sharing works over the local network as well as on the same computer. See the built-in help for details.

Why do Mac users have to pay for iCloud's photostream yet windows users get it free?

Hi. I have an iPhone 4S as well as a MacBook pro upgraded to Lion, yet my iPhoto still runs from iLife 09. Windows users can use the photo stream feature for free by downloading the iCloud control panel, and yet I have to pay to upgrade my iPhoto to the latest version just to use photo stream despite the fact I already payed for a £600 phone, a £1000 2010 MacBook pro and a further £20 for Lion? I'm not having that. Especially when windows users get it free anyway. How can I get the iCloud windows toolbar/panel on my mac? Or how do I get photo stream without upgrading to the new iPhoto?

cost of iphoto upgrade is a lot less than the cost of windows vista or windows 7 operating systems.
but if you had to have it without upgrading lion or iphoto, get windows on your mac's bootcamp and then you can get the control panel for free.
but all else aside, offering apple content on windows is a means to entice users to purchase other mac products. Don't forget apple is a business designed to sell products. Do you get mad at burger king when you purchase a burger and they expect you to pay extra money for fries and a drink?

Query to get the windows-user(os)

spatial-option installed. Now I wanna create a trigger which writes in a table if
a geometry is updated. In this table I wanna write the new geometry, the time of
the update and the windows-user that logged on the windows operating system. I
don't wanna know the database user.
What is the sql-query to get the windows-user?

As an alternative, use the SYS_CONTEXT function to get some of this info.

Get Windows domain name and user through jsp

I have a jsp page that will be viewed through ie on windows platform, that is a member of domain.
I need to get the domain name and logged in windows user name to use it in my page.
I've looked through similar topics. Found no answer.

System.parameter("user.name") is not ok. it returns user that runs jvm.

well, it won't work in your jsp because jsps run server-side
could try putting an applet on your page that does it, but I wouldn't be surprised if the security manager put the kibosh on that, too
a third - but clunky - way would be to write a quick java app that does it, and launch it through WebStart. bit ugly, and needs extra user input they might not want to do

Getting "Failed to Get the user Token" error during running the WHQL Cretification test on Windows 8.1

I am running WHQL Certificating test on the Windows 8.1 host and during the run I am running into error like,
Cause : Failed to Start the Task
Cause : Failed to Get the user Token
Failure : Failed to Start the Task "Detour Logging"
Cause : Failed to Get User Token ""\"" For Task "Detour Logging"
Cause : Session Option Not Supported by the Operating System.
Cause : WinPE Does not Support this Session Option

If you don't use Oracle database then you will have to do one of two things:
(1) Now I'm back in the office I can check D2KWUTIL. The version I have comes with Forms6.0, so it is somewhat out of date, but it has a method called WIN_API_ENVIRONMENT.Get_Windows_Username - which works for NT/95 only, although I'm sure a later version will support more recent OS.
(2) If that's no good then you'll have to use whatever facilities your database offers: I only know Oracle.
I also repeat my suggestion that you try the Forms forum for additional help. This is the Database forum and so is focused on serverside Oracle PL/SQL. For your needs the Developer Suite forums are better.

Hi Martin,
The system only allows someone to access oss tickets of their own company. Heidi was referring to the oss ticket, Oliver had created.
Anyway, the response was that web browsers don't transmit the windows user name for security reasons. In general, the windows user name should not be trusted and should not be used for authentication purposes inside of a SAP system. Nonetheless, using Single Sign On, there might be a slim chance to develop something that connects a SAP user with a windows user.
