Getting wireless access with WPA2

I've just installed XP and have tried to connect to my network, my router is a belkin one and I use WPA/WPA2 with AES, and have installed the WPA patch from the microsoft website, but I still can't get a connection. I can when I turn security off, and have no problems when I'm in OS X. I have the latest updates, and used XP SP2 in bootcamp.
To summerise there is no problem with my router or any other hardware, and XP installed exactly as it should.
Am I missing something here or does XP just not like WPA2?

Dear,
As your requirment is to get multiple ssid on single AP...it is possible with use of WLC
U can use Aeronot AP's & WLC 5000 series.
For the multiple use of AP u have to convert them to Light Weight ...... have to create
multiple interface on WLC eg.  for your employee's & internet access for Guest user's.
To give the internet access u have to set Access Permit lists on the Guest interface... so
it can allow Guest to access only Internet not company network.
Security > Access Control Lists > New > Guest > Add the rules.
mostly this will help u.

If it has an Airport card fitted, yes.
It's very likely it already has, but to be certain, go to the Apple menu > "about this Mac" > More info
Under Network in the left pane you'll see Airport' select that and it'll tell you what card is fitted (if any).
You should also have in the menu bar on the right a pie-slice type symbol; click that and you'll get the option to switch on airport if it's present.
You'll need to set it up in Network Preferences to connect to your wi-fi router.

Best way is to use an AirPrint compatible printer:

If your printer is not AirPrint compatible, you might want to take a look at Printopia.

  • Problem wireless connection with WPA2 Enterprise

    Hello,
I am experiencing an annoying problem while trying to connect at the wireless network at the University, adopting WPA2 Enterprise. After some days of frustration I decided to post a help message here, I hope it's the right section (my problem could be kernel related...). Basically I can't connect to the network, no matter how many times i may try. Other operating systems do not give me the same problem, I can connect without issues thus my card is working properly.
    Summarizing:
    - My card is a BCM4313 (Broadcom), natively supported within the kernel by the module brcmsmac.
    - I tried the module wl as well, with no result.
    - I tried both Arch standard kernel and the LTS one.
    - I am Gnome user, hence I use NetworkManager (never had a problem in the last 2 years at least...)
    - I tried Wicd as well (in the past it was working when NM was failing), with no result.
    - Both MS Windows, Ubuntu and Linux Mint (driver brcmsmac) allow me to connect to the network.
    - The problem occurrs only in case of WPA2 Enterprise, unfortunately this is a "parameter" I cannot change...
What follows is a portion of NM log file, where I isolated the part related to one connection attempt.

As I said before, it may be a kernel related problem, but it seems very strange since I would expect a higher number of users experiencing some troubles.
As a final note, I've been Arch-dependent since 4 years already and I love it. I can't really imagine to change distribution just for this...but I am stuck at present and I need to work with the laptop, so any help is really appreciated.
    Thank you

I did what you suggested and I could connect to the network, ergo it was a NetworkManager problem.
I am migrating to netctl, and I will test it at the university in the next days. I hope it will work.
Thanks for the hint, I should have done this test in the first place...:(

  • No wireless access with Windows XP Pro (SP2) on Macbook Pro

    Hello,
Just installed Windows XP Pro (SP2) on my new Macbook Pro using Bootcamp Beta. The installation has gone fine with the exception of wireless access to the internet through my Airport home network.
I've tried all the other configuraton wizards on XP...no joy.
The three other macs in the house (2 wireless, 1 ethernet) and one Windows laptop (wireless) are all fine and dandy.
Any suggestions on what to do?
    Thanks

    Right Click on My Computer
    Select Manage
    Click on Device Manager
Make sure that your Ethernet Adapters are working properly
If there is an red X or a yellow ! next to any ethernet adapter then try to reinstall the drivers.
(you can reinstall the drivers via the installation cd or double click on the hardware device under device manager. there should be a reinstall drivers button in there. point it to the CD that you burned from bootcamp)
(there will be a couple of devices that are not working properly.)

  • Can't get internet access with WRT54G router

I recently purchased a used WRT54G. I replaced my old wired linksys router with it and my hosts are able to get dhcp addresses from the router, but they cannot access the Internet. I have tried to use dchp release and renew buttons under the status tab in the router's web-based gui to get a public IP address, but can't get one. I have attempted to reset the router to its factory settings, but I still can't get the public IP. I have no problem getting an IP and Internet access with my old router and the WRT54G works if I disable its dchp and daisy chain it to the old one. Maybe I need to do something else for a complete reset of the router. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jack

the router that you just purchased was maybe configured for a different network before that's why it did not work initially. after making the router back to its' factory defaults, you should reconfigure or set-up the router.. If you have CABLE ISP, enable ''mac address clone'' on the router's set-up page under the set-up tab. then check if you can get a public ip address after that.

  • No luck using TP-WR702N to get wireless access

I've recently had bandwidth problems over power line on my YV box (BT). So I've tried to go wireless as a wired solution is not feasible.
I've got hold of a 702N after reading some success from the YV users in the TT forums. On particular that the boosts still work over wireless (IGMP multicast et al)
So I've configured my system, 702N set to client mode, no DHCP and connected to my wireless. The YV can see the net, and nowtv is working fine. However no demand channels.
I'm on a BTHH3 router with full speed infinity.
I've tried everything I can think of, but just can't get the demand channels to work (bt sport, discovery et al).
I'm not that hot on how the IGMP layer and multicasting works can anyone suggest a fix?
I've tried the YB both static and DHCP. I have a suspicion that its that added NAT type layer thats been added in by the 702N but I can't see any relevant settings in the web config pages.
    ta in advance
    Steve

Sorry for jumping on this thread, but my question is nearly the same.
I live in an apartment that has a house router. That means the only thing I see in my apartment is a plug to connect to the huse LAN which is connected to the router which is connected to the Internet. I do not have access to the router as I am just a tennant. I want to have a wireless network in my apartment. Can I use an Airport Express for that? Just plug the Airport into the LAN port in my apartment and be good? Or do I need a different setup for that? Would an Airport Extremem allow this kind of setup?

  • Connecting a WRT54G v2 to BEFSR41. How do I do it to get internet access with both?

So recently I just bought a BEFSR41 to split the internet coming from a cat5e cable from the WRT54G so I can get internet on both my xbox 360 and computer, but I've run into a bunch of issues. First off, I've tried turning my BEF into an access point by creating a new IP, disabling DHCP and connecting it to a numbered port, but I can't get internet from that solution. I've called tech support to see if they could help but I just wasted 2 hours of their time because all the solutions they tried didn't work either. So I'm wondering if its my cable thats the problem. Its a CAT5e cable branched through my room to the office room I say about 50 to 100 feet away. I receive internet through this cable when i connect it to the computer but when i connect it to the xbox it doesnt even register an ip. Also when i connect this cable to my very old netgear router RT314, it can receive internet but it has trouble with connecting to different users. Any help will be much appreciated. • Wireless access with Windows Vista

I installed a LinkSys WRT150N wireless router last night at my home.  When i was complete, my Dell (Windows XP) found the router with no problem.  On my wife's new HP (Windows Vista) it kept saying "no wireless connection detected" I verified the antenna was on, etc.  HP checked all their settings and they tell me that Linksys may not be compatible with Vista.
Has anyone else had this problem and how did you solve it?
    Thanks

Linksys is compatible w/ Vista.... hmmmm... so all the following checks out fine on the laptop right?
    ► wireless switch is ON
► wireless adapter is device manager is working properly
On the router make sure the ff. also checks out fine:
    ► WLAN light is on
    ► power light is solid
    ► SSID broadcast is enabled
    ► change radioband to standard
► set standard channel to 11

  • Can I get wifi access with my iphone 4 verizon in china?

I have an iphone 4 with Verizon.  I have been told I can't get phone service, but have also been told I can get to the internet in hotels with wifi to get my webmail.  Is this true?  Will Google translate work under these conditions?  Maps?

WiFi should work anywhere in the world. China blocks a lot of sites including (last I heard) the non-Chinese version of Google, though, so whether or not you'll be able to use Google Translate I don't know. I don't see Translate on the Google Hong Kong site, so it seems doubtful, but someone else here may know.

  • Problems Setting up my wireless network with an Xb...

Hi, I have had some problems setting up my wireless networking.
I have everything switched on and am able to go online with the laptop and the Xbox with no problems but when I try to share media with the xbox I have problems.
I have opened the ports specified in the setup from xbox on windows firewall and have no problem connection Via Ethernet cable but when using wireless the xbox cannot detect the laptop.
I have checked the network map and both xbox and laptop are connected and have enabled sharing and am running sharing software.
    Below is the network map.
I have also been having problems with BT software, the free virus protection will not install, The desktop help will not launch although it shows up on task manager and the installation disk does not launch correctly it doesn't get past the loading screen.
I have had a printer on the wireless network and had no problems printing.
If anyone knows how to resolve this please help.

I have this same Motorola modem and I just verified that my 802.11n AirPort Express Base Station (AXn) can get Internet access with this modem without any issues.
When changing ISPs (or networking equipment) it's always a good idea to start from "scratch" in configuring your equipment.
I would recommend that you do the following as a minimum:
Power-down the modem, AirPort base station, and computer(s).
While all of the devices are powered-down, perform a "factory default" reset on the base station. This will get it back to its "out-of-the-box" configuration and make setting it up much easier, especially if you use the "Assist me" process within the AirPort Utility. (ref: Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule)
After the base station resets, go ahead and power it back down.
Power-up the modem; wait at least 10-15 minutes.
Power-up the base station; wait at least 5-10 minutes.
    Power-up your computer(s).
In this basic configuration, computers connected to the base station, either by wire or wireless (as appropriate for the base station type), should now be able to access the Internet through the ISP's modem. Once Internet connectivity has been verified, you can use the AirPort Utility to configure the base station for wireless security and any other desired options.

  • I have a new ipad2, also an ipad1, with a gateway laptop. I have wireless router with windstream. Able to access my wireless connection on ipad1 and laptop, but can't on ipad2. Will say connected, but get message saying not connected to internet on Safari

I got an ipad 2 today. Already have an ipad 1 and gateway laptop. Have wireless internet with windstream. I have internet connection on ipad 1 and laptop, but can't connect to internet on ipad2. It says i'm connected, but when accessing Safari, it says not connected to internet. Tried unplugging router and resetting already, still not working. Thanks for the help.

    Thank you for your response.
I did try turning off the firewall, and reducing all the security levels to a minimum (under Control Panel>Internet Options). Also, I'm using a direct cable from my m/c to the Airport Extreme. But nothing helps. Due to the usage pattern in my family, using the MacBook for configuring the network is not optimal, hence my struggle to do it on my Windows desktop. But if that is the only way to go I suppose I'll have to.
Subsequent to posting my query, I discovered that Apple had not singled me out, and many others with a Win OS face this problem, too. I would have thought Apple would do a proper job of testing before putting up the Windows version of Airport Utlity on their site.
But thanks again. Much appreciate it.

  • I have a mid-2010 iMac and just purchased a 2TB TC, can't join existing wireless network with AC standard so attached to iMac via ethernet with TC wifi turned off.  How do i access TC now? not showing up in disk utility or on desktop. working fine with TM

I have a mid-2010 iMac and just purchased a 2TB TC, I just found out that it can't join existing wireless network with new AC standard so attached to iMac via ethernet with TC's wifi turned off.  How do i access TC now? not showing up in disk utility or on desktop. It is working fine with TM.  My cheeper seagate drives etc kept crashing, so i didnt trust cheeper back up options anymore.  Connected those drives to TM via firewire and could see the drives and access them.
Also, I didn't want to bridge TC with my new fios router that I paid 100 dollars for, to get N speed and also paying 10 dollars more a month for fast speed.  I heard that bridging slows down everything and then there can be port issues with mail etc.  I connect to the internet via airport only and it is pretty fast. Getting over 50mbs downloads and over 30mbs uploads.  Plus everything in my home it connected to my fios router, airport express for music streaming, two apple tvs, vuezone camer system.  I really didn't want to monkey around too much with my system.  But are there other options to connect the new TC.  Can't find info anywhere for this and called apple who gave me the info above.  after hanging up, i see that i cant access my TC and I am wondering if i would have to reset it to turn wifi on again to make changes to the drive, turn off blinking light  or repair it in disk utility if it should become corrupted.
For other with similar issues i did solve some other problems: when i connected it to my ethernet port on my iMac wifi stopped working.  Found that I had to turn off the ethernet in the system>network screen, but then TM didn't see the TC so i restarted after changes and then it saw it.
Now a rant.  I can't believe in this wireless age that Apple would make a product that cant join a wireless net work.  The apple rep said i could return it and look for the previous TC that would join an existing wireless network.  Are we going backwards?
    Thanks!
    lennydas

Ok... it is getting a bit clearer but there are still some questions.
I connect to the internet via airport only and it is pretty fast.
I was assuming airport in this statement in your first post meant the TC or the Express.. but I now realise we are still in the mass confusion stage where apple calls everything wireless an airport. So what you mean is the airport internal card of the computer??
Also, I didn't want to bridge TC with my new fios router that I paid 100 dollars for, to get N speed and also paying 10 dollars more a month for fast speed.  I heard that bridging slows down everything and then there can be port issues with mail etc.
    I think this is mistaken.
Putting the TC in bridge mode plugged into your FIOS will not slow the network.. nor will it cause mail or port issues.. in bridge the TC is just a fancy WAP and switch plus the network hard drive.
If the computer is close it will be faster than the FIOS.
You can run both wireless networks with different names.. so it is clear which is which. But you can also setup roaming so the computers themselves pick which is the best wireless.
I tried extending the wireless net work and tried joining wireless network, but the TC kept crashing and I had to keep resetting the TC.  the Apple support person said these, extend wireless network and joint wireless network, are no longer a connection option with the new TC because of the new AC protocol.
    Thanks again!
You cannot extend to a non-apple wireless router.
You cannot use join a wireless network because when you do the ethernet ports will be cut off.
But that has not changed.. I don't think Apple support is correct.. there has been no change with the AC model.. it is simply a fact that apple routers do not work in join wireless mode other than as a dumb client. The same applies to AC as to the earlier version.. but I have asked another person to check this.
Join in the express is the only apple router that still allows an ethernet connection.
For now you best use of the TC is bridged to the FIOS. Wireless you can sort out between several options.

  • I live in an apartment with supplied internet.  I have wireless network with no password.  I have a wall outlet that I can plug into.  When I plug in my TC I get a double NAT error.  I try bridge mode, but I can't get the internet to work.

Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
Can I get a suggestion on how to use the TC as a different wireless device with it's own password without access to the cable modem.  I only have access to a wall port.
I own many apple devices, iMac mid-2011, Macbook Air 2013, 2 ipads, and 2 iphones for the family, and Apple TV.
I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.
I hope I have described this situation clearly enough.
    Thanks

I want all my devices to be on a password related internet but the double nat on my TC makes weird things happen and slow.  I try bridge mode but the internet doesn't work.
You building supplied internet is a cheap service that is without proper routable addresses..
Therefore to use more than one IP you MUST have double NAT.. sorry there is no choice..
Slow that is because you are sharing internet with every other person in the building.. get your own broadband service.
Bridge will not work.. it cannot work because the building only has private IP addressing. And they only give you a single address.
You can put a password on the wireless.. go to the airport utility and put in a password.
Other than that I don't understand what password you expect.
Can I get an explanation of what bridge mode is?
No NAT.. means the TC becomes a dumb Wireless AP and switch.. works fine with a cable modem router.. or any broadband router but useless with your building system.
Can I get suggestions on what I should do to use the TC as a wireless device to spread the same wireless device my apartment is broadcasting?
Double NAT, and set your own wireless names. There is no alternative.. sorry.
