Getting wireless connectivity on the printer.

The printer is a HP Photosmart 6510 series. Initial set up (6 months ago) was fine and the printer connected wirelessly to the PC fine. Today something has happened and the computer cannot connect to the printer. I have deinstalled the printer and have tried reinstalling with the original disc but the when the set up asks for the IP address of the printer the process stops.

Hello staffstp.
Please, check this document to know if your printer is still connected to the router.
1. Printing a Network Configuration Page with Photosmart 6510.
2. Getting the latest firmware and product updates.

  • Can't establish wireless connection between the printer and computer.

I recently upgraded my wireless to an Apple AirPort Time Capsule. I'm able to set up the printer via USB cable. And I'm able to set up the printer on the network via the Airport WPA utility. However I cannot establish a wireless connection between the computer and the printer. When I go to the printers window  in my system prefereces, there is no wireless printer available to add in the "available printers" menu. Only the USB version printer is listed and of course when I disconnect the USB cable it shows as offline.I've tried all the fixes on HP's support pages. I've tried reinstalling the printer on both the router and the computer numerous times. The only thing I haven't done is reinstall the printer using the "Install Wizard" software that is supposed to come with the printer - (mine never came with it in the first place and of course HP doesn't have it available for download). And when I reset the printer to factory settings, then connect it to the computer via the USB, there is no installation software that pops up. Cant even find the **bleep** thing in "Finder". (I'm assuming that it should show up as some sort of external device.) I've checked to make sure both computer and printer are on the same network. (sometimes my computer will grab a connection with the next nearest network.) I've checked all the settings for the printer via the HTML configuration utility. I've even updated my Macbook software and restarted it multiple times. Note: the printer actually worked for a bit when I first switched routers, but the printer's wireless function went offline several times and then quit  altogether. Really frustrated that I bought another HP product thinking this time things would be different. HP is no help unless you want to pay $$ for a phone call. I'm about ready to take this thing out in the desert to use for target practice and never buy another HP product ever again.

Hi , I saw your post regarding the problems you are having with your LaserJet Pro P1102w Printer not showing on your Macintosh computer. I may have found some resources for you.
I have a few questions for you, so I can offer some additional assistance:Before you upgraded to the Apple AirPort Time Capsule, was the printer working wirelessly without any issues?
When you say; 'I reset the printer to factory settings', how where you trying to do this?
I found some instructions from this post: How do I reset my Laserjet p1102w to its defaults, copied here for you:
To restore the printer back to factory settings, turn the printer off, hold down the wireless button and the cancel button (x button) then turn the printer back on and don't release the two buttons until the printer stops making noise. (When they say turn the printer off, I think they mean unplug the power cable.)
"I've checked to make sure both computer and printer are on the same network."  Do you know if you are able to access the printers Embedded Web Server (EWS)?To access the EWS - Make sure that the Ready light () is on and that the printer is idle and silent.Press and hold the Cancel button (), and release it when the Ready light () begins blinking. The configuration page prints.Type the IP address or host name of the product in the address field of a supported Web browser, and then press Enter on your keyboardLet me know if this page loads
To answer a few more items you have listed:... When I go to the printers window in my system preferences, there is no wireless printer available to add in the "available printers" menu. This could be an issue with your print system, I recommend resetting the printing system and then Repair Disk Permissions - after that try to add the printer again.
... the "Install Wizard" software that is supposed to come with the printer - (mine never came with it in the first place and of course HP doesn't have it available for download)HP provides their software/drivers to Apple to be released through your Apple software updates. You can review this document on how to Install a Mac Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update. Which leads into your next point...
... there is no installation software that pops upWhen you connect the USB cable your mac may still recognize the printer software as being already installed - check for apple updatesOn the Mac, click the Apple menu (), and then click Software Update, or click About this Mac, and then click Software Update. A list of available updates displays.
... Not seeing the printer in "Finder" From what I understand most printers will not show in Finder unless you install a memory card into a supported port on certain printer models, only then will it read it like an external device. A few more things you can check are that the new settings in the Apple AirPort Time Capsule are setup to allow the printer to communicate. There are several of these settings listed in this document; Tips and Workarounds for Common Wireless Network Printer Issues.  HP regularly releases firmware updates that may also correct the problem you are experiencing. I previously was able to wirelessly ePrint to my HP Photosmart Plus e-All-In-One B210a using both my iPad & iPhone (both run IOS 5.1).  For some unknown reason neither one can now print.  I keep getting a message that the printer is no longer available.  My MacBook continues to print ok.  Any ideas?

Reboot everything.  Router, printer and pad.  If it used to work, it will again.  It just lost itself somewhere.

I am trying to print wirelessly from my ipad to an epson stylus SX438W. The connection appears fine on both devices but the ipad cannot connect to the printer. It has been working fine for the past 4 months. Can anyone help?

Have you tried restarting the printer? Reboot the iPad as well.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

  • I have a canon MX7600 multifunction printer. My security setting allow connection with the printer. If I disable the firewall it works fine. If the firewall is running I get a dialog box every time I print asking for permission. How do I fix this?

I have a canon MX 7600 multifunction printer. Each  time I print I get a dialog box asking for permission to allow connections to the printer. This box stays on my screen for a few seconds, if I don't click allow I get a communication error which then requires me to delete the job and start over. I contacted Canon and proceeded with their suggestions to no avail. They now say it is an Apple issue. My security settings are set to allow connection to the canon printer. If I disable the firewall it works fine, once I enable the firewall the problem returns.  This issue is a royal pain. Any suggestions on how to fix it short of buying a new printer?

  • Can you print from an iPad 2 using 3G in a home with no computer or wifi by using an iPhone 5 hot spot connection if the printer has been set up in another place with live wifi? I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area

Can you print from an iPad 2 using 3G in a home with no other computer or wifi by using an iPhone 5 hot spot connection if the printer has been set up in another place with live wifi? I know this question is loaded but my dad lives in a rural area and is wanting a printer to use occasionally. He doesn't want to deal with a computer and I keep his iPad updated for him at my home.  Please shed some light on this for us PLEASE. Thanks

In that case, it should be possible. I haven't tried this directly, but I believe it should work.
You'll need to get an actual AirPrint compatible Printer.
Check here for a list of Printers you can choose from.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4356
Once you have the compatible printer, using the Hotspot feature from the iPhone he'll have to create the Wifi bubble form the iPhone, and connect the Printer to that Wifi network.
Then connect the iPad to that same Wifi network provided by the iPhone. When all that is done, the printer should appear in any of the Apps that can Print under the Action Arrow button.
For instance in email, pressing the action arrow should show a Print option. In there the printer should appear.
Alternatively you can simply buy a wireless router and setup the network through there even if there is no internet attached.  Connect the wireless printer to the router network, and connect the iPad or iPhone to that same wifi network to print.

  • HP Device Toolbox software Error Unable to connect to the printer

    Hi guys,
I'm currently in bit of a nightmare with my HP Laserjet 100 color MFP M175nw.
Basically I have upgraded to a new wireless router and since doing this my HP Laser Jet refuses to work / connect to the wireless network.
I have literally tried just about evey thing I can to get it to work, thoroughly through the manual, uninstalled and reinstalled the software about 12 times, tried firewalls on and off, tried security on the router on and off, tried WPS mode, tried manually entering in the IP address into the printer all without luck. You can see my dedicated thread here
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Networking-and-Wireless/HP-LaserJet-Pro-100-color-MFP-M175nw-un...
So currently I have the printer connect to the computer via USB and it works, so I decided to try using the HP Device toolbox software  to see if it would give me any more options to try and when I run this software I get
Error: Unable to connect to the printer, make sure your printer is properly connected and powered on and then try to open the HP device toolbox again. Arg!!!
My new router is a Billion 7800DXL, my old router which worked in wireless mode was also a Billion 7300g.
Any help would be great really stuck here

    Hello tf22raptor.
I see that you're now experiencing an issue getting the Device Tool box to run. I will try and assist with this.
After reviewing this post and the other thread, I have a few things you can try.
    1) Run MS Fix it utility to uninstall the software: Fix problems that programs cannot be installed or uninstalled.
(This is to make sure the software is completely removed and conflicts in the registry get resolved)
2)Msconfig: press windows key and R on the keyboard> in run box type "msconfig"> on window select "services tab"> check box next to "hide all MS services> press disable all> go to "startup" tab> press disable all> press apply and ok at the bottom> this should prompt a PC restart.
    Please restart.
    3) Re-install via USB
    4) Try running the device toolbox now
5)If still having issues installing wireless, you may have to contact the router manufacture.
I hope this helps you out. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Manual duplex times out on wireless connectivity only - D5560 printer

The printer is set for manual duplex. I use a Dell Insiron laptop (OSW7) with a wireless connection to Netgear Wireless-N 3000 Router. IP address is 192.168.1.5:3910 for the wireless printer.
The pages print on the one side and then simply stop printing on the last page just before the printer should be releasing it.
If I leave everything alone, approx 15 seconds later the page gets released and the print cancels.
If I manually tug the final page out of the printer and manually insert for the second side the page has a small area at the end unfinished. The first page of the second side may have this data printed on it.
I've reinstalled the software and all hardware has driver updates etc.
My PC is cable connected to the router and I've never had this happen. It is only on the wireless connection for the laptop.
    Is there a solution?

Does the printer recover by power-cycling your switch or unplugging the LAN cable to the printer?

  • There was a problem connecting to the printer. Make sure it's connected and try again

A test page prints ok. However when I come to print any document I get this message:
"There was a problem connecting to the printer. Make sure it's connected and try again"
I have uninstalled the printer and re-installed it and rebooted my computer. Still printing a tet page but won't print anything else.

    Hi @davifels,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I see that you are getting the error message, "there was a problem connecting to the printer. Make sure it's connected and try again." With your HP Envy 4500 printer running on Windows 8.1 (64-bit). I am sorry to hear this, but happy to help!
For further assistance, I will need the following information:
If the printer is connected, Wireless, or USB.
If the printer is able to make copies. Copy Text or Mixed Documents.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
If the printer can print from NotePad.
In the meantime, please take a look through this guide, 'Printer is offline' Message Displays on the Computer and the Printer Will Not Print: Windows 8.

  • The network connection to the printer has been lost.

I have reserved an IP address for my printer in my router. I routinely get the following message in Windows 8.1 64: "Scan to computer is no longer activated. The network connection to the printer has been lost." Also, when printing, sometimes the printing cuts out (i.e. half the job).

    bcbrewster
Well, then the issue remains vague and you must track down a reason for the disconnect -- the connection is breaking between the printer and the computer -- and apparently, from your description - this even happens on occasion during a print job.
    Event Viewer Logs
If the computer is aware of the cause, you might find it in the Event Viewer logs.  There is a wealth of information packed into the daily logs kept by the system on a great many of the computer's actvitiies.  The trick is to 1) find the log containing the information you seek, and 2) Decipher what you have found.
Reading Event Viewer logs is part science and part art.   I cannot tell you precisely where to look because I don't know where your problem is located.
I can give you some information on how to get started:
    Windows 8 Event Viewer
    ===============================================
    Disconnections
Disconnection can be caused by a number of things, most of which you have probably already read about in your searches:
The issue could be due to the need for a Firmware Update.  You would have noted this during your previous Troubleshooting - and the only Firmware update for this model is dated 2013.

    =======================================================
Possible causes for connection issues include and are not limited to:
The router should be no closer than three feet (about a meter) to the printer - too close is as bad as too far away
You can try moving things around -- even a few inches one way or another can help
Weak antennas or single antenna routers cannot be "magically" made better; these routers might perform better when placed higher in a room rather than lower.  That is, place the router high on a shelf instead of low in a cabinet
Try changing the channel -- 6, 11 might work better
Try using a static IP outside of the DHCP range of the computers on the same network.

  • I get wireless connection but my internet does not work on my ipad 2

I get wireless connection but my internet does not work on my ipad 2

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

  • Connecting to the printer, driver problem

I'm trying to connect to the printer (hp business inkjet1100) that's connected to a computer running xp (pro sp3) from my laptop running vista (home prem 64x). That just seems confusing reading that so: (printer)>>>(xp/desktop)<<<(vista/laptop). I already have a network set up and can share file with no problems, so I thought it'd be easy to connect to this printer. I was wrong.
I try to connect to the printer by going to control pannel>printers>add printer>networked printer>printer's name after making it share on the xp computer (the name showed up on the vista computer so there's no problem there). Then vista tried to connect to the printer (bless it's heart) but had a problem (no suprise) it couldn't find a driver and wanted me to manually find the .inf file. No problem I'll just download the driver for the hp website, right? Wrong.
Apparently there are no drivers for my printer for windows vista, however there is a workaround. You can use the drivers for the 1000 series printer and basic functions should work (hopefully that includes printing). The problem is that the workaround tells me to manually set up the printer (port, driver, etc) and then reconnect the printer to the computer (the problem being the printer isn't connected to the computer in the first place).
Now I consider myself pretty good with computer and able fix most problems without help (and unfortunatlly end up helping plenty of the family with their problems), but this is just annoying. So I decide it's time to call in the experts (from india).
I choose the live chat becuase it always seems faster and I haven't yet had one that would play me music while I wait (some may consider this a positive thing). The problem is that I have to find my serial number and product number. I copy down the 2 easily labled numbers, but that isn't the right combonation. So I search for "finding product number" and I get a page just like what I search for (finally some luck). After clicking on printers I get to a page called "Finding Your Product Name." At this point I give up on the hp website and just write down every number on the back of the printer. Finaly the stars align and I get to start chatting with a person. A couple of auto messages pop up and then he asks me to confirm the information I just entered (if it was wrong how did I get into the live chat?) and then continues to inform me that my warrenty has expired and it'll be $25 for support. I ask him if there is any other type of support and he says that the most he can do (probono) is give me a link to a webpage on the hp site (I've been there believe it or not), I thank him for his time and move on. Hopefully the expired warrenty doesn't matter here (but if it does just ignore that part it was a total lie just to see if you'd really help a guy without a warrenty (to test if you were really good people or just .....))
Thanks in advance for your time

The following worked for me, even allowing me to manually select the driver
Alternative method 1. 1. Click on the Windows icon>>Start Search>>Type printers and press enter. 2. Click on 'Add Printer'. 3. Click on 'Add a local printer'. 4. Click on 'Create a new port:'. 5. Do not change the 'Type of port:'. By default it is selected as 'Local Port'. Let it remain the same. 6. Click on 'Next'. 7. In the small 'Port name:' window, type the following under 'Enter a port name:'
NOTE: The names should be exactly the same. They are case sensitive.
      \\computer name\printer name
For instance: If computer name is 'John' and printer name is 'HPprinter', you have to type the exact name with all the characters including spaces. Hence in this case it would be the following:
    \\John\HPprinter
    8. Click on OK.  9. Click on Next and complete the Wizard. (It will now install the printer and driver) I used the 7400 series driver for my 7550 but it works.10. Try to print a Windows test page and check the printer functionality. 1 Click on the Start icon on your Desktop.2.Select Control Panel.3.Double click on the Printer icon.4.Select and Right click on HP Photosmart 7550 Printer series icon.5.Click on Properties.6.In the Properties Windows click on Print Test Page Tab it will start printing a Windows Test Page

  • HP Officejet Pro 276dw MFP - can't connect with the printer driver (but web browser works)

    Hi,
I used to own an 8500 pro which got replaced by the 276dw due to HW malfunctioning of the old model. I installed the driver (full set, win 8.1 64 bit) from the HP download area over the installed printer. I can access the printer using it's IP address. Ipad Airprint works well. The only problem is that I can't get the printer driver to connect to the printer, but the printer driver displays the printer with the correct address. Print and Scan doctor detects incomplete install and download 184MB, one bit at a time ... it will take more than an hour.
I believe - due to a message that something needs to be stopped during the install (in order to get rid of the SW for the old printer) - that this thing is stil stopped, and I need to restart that (or if it is a service I need to reset it to automatic start).
    Any idea anyone?
    Thanks and with best regards,
    Holger

update: The Print and Scan doctor did not help, but I finally added the printer using the default windows method. So I can print, but scan to PC obviously doesn't work, and neither does the Fax printer. Help still appreciated.

We usually print from the cloud because of our tablets an cell phones, but we can print through the network.
The printers are on the same home network.
My tablets and cell phones see the printer as a different wireless service (router) since the printer was in the same room as the router there were situations that the printer signal was slightly stronger than the router so they connected.
update: I moved the printer into another room some distance from the router and the problem is now solved, my tablets etc. no longer change from my router.
    Thank you,
    Larry
