Getting woken up at night
I was wondering if there is a way for the Black Berry program to send emails only during a certain time period. I’d like to stop them at about 10:00 PM and start back at about 7:00 AM if it can. But still get calls a text messages.
You could aslo try using the Auto Off and On feature, this way during sleep hours you won't hear a thing. Unless of course you need to answer phone calls in the middle of the night. The other suggestions works just as good. I use the Quiet Profile and then just changed the phone option to actually ring.

Why am I getting an alert every night at 9PM?
Here's a weird issue.
Starting a couple months ago, every night at exactly 9 PM, the default text alert sounds on my phone. And I can't figure out what's causing it.
- No alarm is set.
- No notifications pop up, either as a banner or alert. No badge numbers change.
- The alert still sounds even if I turn on DO NOT DISTURB.
- The alert still sounds if the phone is asleep.
I did a fresh install (of iOS 6 a few weeks ago) and manually set the clock to 8:59...waited a minute....and nothing. So I figured there was some sort of OS glitch that I had wiped out. So I restored via iCloud, set the cloud to 8:59 again...waited a minute...and DING DING.
Given that this isn't a huge annoyance -- it's actually kind of funny -- I didn't bother with again it. I figured iOS 7 would fix it.
Upgraded last night, and waited til 9. DING DING (or whatever the new iOS 7 default sound is).
This is driving me nuts — not so much the alert itself — but rather that i can't figure out what's causing it. I'm quite tech savvy and pride myself on being able to troubleshoot and fix my tech.
It's not worth waiting at the Apple Store for, but was hoping someone here would have a better idea.Maybe it's an old recurring calendar entry that alerts you every night at 9?
Try removing your calendars just for one day - if it still goes off then it's not that and you can just add them back. -
Closed lid Mac keeps getting woken up by EHC2
Hello community !
My MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2GHz) started this several months ago : I close the lid to put it to sleep, but it randomly wakes up - sometimes several times an hour. The Apple logo lights up, the drive makes the 'wake up' sound, and just like that, it goes back to sleep.
I found the Terminal command syslog |grep -i "Wake reason", which lists all the times the Mac wakes up, along with the reason. I know that LID0 is the cover and UHC3 is the keyboard, but the mysterious ones are from EHC2 (with or without FRWR). Just last night, between 1:15 and 3:30, it woke up 29 times!
From what I read, this should be a USB (or Firewire) drive, but I don't have any attached... The Mac is connected via WiFi to an Airport Extreme (WITHOUT a USB drive), and is setup to NOT "Wake for Ethernet network access" (I don't have an Ethernet connection anyway). I recently deactivated Bluetooth connection, with no effect.
Could the fact that the Mac is always connected to the power adapter be the source of the problem? I just thought about this - will try to unplug it when putting the Mac to sleep..
Any ideas what might be the cause of this annoyance?
ThanksJust use PleaseSleep to solve these problems. That's how I solved my wake-from-sleep problem. I think mine was from USB too, in my case a non-apple keyboard with usb ports. But I was never sure and I wasn't going to give up my keyboard. PleaseSleep attempts to force the system to obey the energy saver settings.
I am curious though about something. With the power adaper in, open Terminal (in Utilities) and type the following:
pmset -g
what does the line that says "sleep" say? -
Extraction gets too slow at nights (finding the bottleneck)
Hi all,
i'm loading historic data from R/3 to BW. The extraction process usually takes 15 minutes per data package, but at nights some packages takes like 1 hr.
Can you helpme to understand in which step of the extraction the gap is ?
Here is a piece of the extraction log form R/3, where you can see the 1hr gap:

The dotted line is the gap, i need to know what process of the extraction
is running in there.
Thanks a lot in advance !!Found it, the gap is on the extraction process.

I keep getting blury pic at night i hace the iPhone 5s
how can i fix My problem
If it is too dark, the camera can't focus correctly, that's why your photos get blurry. Did you try to use the flash when taking pictures? The flash will add a little more brightness and the camera can focus again.

I will tell you why you all are experiencing these issues. The gov't is using your bandwidth to monitor the Jihads. haha I have a much worse situation in Houston TX. Oh boy! What seems to be going on with the email since your update? Was the Verizon Cloud launched? If not, what happens as you go in to clear the app cache? http://vz.to/13JmFX8

Turn off notifications sounds at night? (Z3)
Hi All
I am a new proud owner of a Z3, I love it!
Well apart from this....
I get woken up at night with Facebook notifications, emails and such buzzing and bleeping in the night.
I cannot turn my phone on silent as i'm on-call for my job and need my phone to ring in the night if someone calls.
I used to have a Samsung Glaxy S3 before this, it had a feature (i forget the name) and worked great. I wrongly presumed this was a blanket feature for Android phones...
After googling i've noticed some people favour 3rd party apps. But cmon Sony - surely i cant be the only one suffering?
Thanks in advance for any tips.

My Mac turns itself on during the night?!
I've noticed that my MBP seems to turn itself on during the night - I think around 1am. I've looked in the Energy Saver Schedule and there's nothing set up for it to come on.
I'm a little confused as to what may be causing this. Any ideas would be much appreciated.Do you have eyeTV on your Mac? This is what I've found to be the cause of my Mac turning itself on at 1am every morning.
If so, does your Mac turn itself on at a set time every day? If so, check what time that is in the Console. You'll need this so you can manually set your clock in order to test it all out.
I then decided to delete all preferences with elgato in the name in both my Mac prefs and User prefs (make sure you have your eyeTV serial number as you'll need to enter this when you next start up eyeTV.
Okay, then start up eyeTV and go through the whole process - just make sure you uncheck things that will be automatic i.e. channel listings etc.
Then quit eyeTV and set your computer clock to just around 40 seconds before it turns your Mac on and then put it to sleep - if it doesn't wake up then great - if it does then you'll need to delete the elgato prefs from just your User prefs and start up eyeTv again - go into the prefs of the program and uncheck anything that appears automatic i.e. automatically check for updates etc
Hopefully this'll work as it's worked for me - a bit of a pain but a least I no longer get woken up with the famous Mac BOOOONNNGGGG -
IS it me or did I get poor support from Apple? Any advice on this long one?
OK, so I’m curious, am I a complete idiot or is something else going on here?
Please help…
Here is my story.
I contact Apple Support for my new Imac. Reason being, I am a PC guy who switched, and have had only one user on the machine the past 45 days. Now since I think I know what I’m doing, I want my wife to have a separate login, and be able to share the same Itunes/Iphoto/Imovie folders. I tried some Google/apple website ideas/book on Mac. But no success. So I call Apple support.(since I am covered for the first 90 days I think) And this is where it gets interesting.
First guy I talk to, I mention all the above, his first response. "Well, we don't support that kind of issue here, sorry,(after I state the typical, Huh? This doesn’t make sense.) He says, "ok ok, Lets see what we can do. But we are not supposed to be supporting this type of issue.”
I restate the issue, and he says "Well, I’ve never heard of someone wanting to share the same Itunes folder with another user on the same machine", I explain that there must be some misunderstanding, so I explain again that all I want is to have two different users, be able to share the same music files, and I say that I cant believe that he has never heard of this. The support guy then says," Well, I have handled over 10,000 calls, and I have NEVER had a call asking about this."
So I then ask for another tech support person, and after a 10 minute hold, I get someone else.
[First question for everyone, is this normal Apple Support behavior? I have the O'Reily book on switching to the Mac, and they have a couple of pages on the shared Itunes folder, which I explained to the tech and he said he never heard of it.]
The next guy was an annoying *** who was a know-it-all type. I’m fairly decent in the tech realm and with PC's, and I explained to the guy that I initially created other users, and was playing around with the folder permissions. And I thought that that might be where my problem is. He tells me that I need to follow his instructions, and we end up rebooting, and doing some fsk (or close to this) checks, and some disk repairs. They all come up ok. After finding out that I still cannot get access to my folders in my shared directory, he tells me that all my files are corrupt and that I probably lost them! (in my best Moe the bartender voice) WHAAAA ?!
I then proceed to my shared folder and do my own (apple I command) and tell the guy the permissions are for the other user. The tech then starts to lecture me that I never told him this and that we need to have a better open communication in a very condescending tone.
Now, this is the funny part, RIGHT after this lecture, he starts telling my to start putting some files into the public folder and telling me that anything in the public folder will be shared by all users. Public this, public that, blah blah public…I look around, and after a little while I say, there is no public folder here, just the shared folder. "Oh yeah, He says, that’s what I meant to say.." Open communication, Yeah Right!
We then get my files for Itunes in the shared folder, and finally are able to see the files from both users. But, when either user is in Itunes, we go into the general advanced prefs, and change the default folder to the new Itunes folder for the music, within the shared folder, and go back to Itunes, there is no music coming up. The guys has me restart Itunes, and nothing. We then do the same thing about 3-4 times, including rebooting, and no music comes up within Itunes.
At this point, my son was becoming a menace, as was my wife for we were supposed to be outside somewhere, and I was beyond frustration, so I just said, get me the case number and Ill call back some other time.
And get this, later that night, on a whim I open Itunes, see that there is still no music, click on Add to Library, point it to my folder that’s under the shared folder, and it now shows all my music. (whether or not this is correct, is another story, but It looks good to me)
So, can anyone out there offer any insight to this episode? Am I out of line? Am I missing something? I’m ticked off because I come from the PC realm, and it looks like I never made it t the glorious Mac land yet! Help!
Oh, as Steve Jobs would say, ONE MORE THING...During all this back and forth multiple user switching, I have the fast user switching on, and when you pick a new user, the really cool cube thing whips around, well, as of last night, it stopped doing it, and would just kind of refresh the monitor to switch users, and as of this morning, the cube thing is now back. I didn’t change anything with this, is this normal too?
Thanks in advance for any insight!

Imac intel dua core Mac OS X (10.4.8) Itunes sharing and file permissionsSorry your experience wasn't a plesant one, but most of the issues they work on are hardware in nature, not software.. I'm not taking up for Apple... I'd had my share of run-ins with them as well.
As for your iTunes issue... an EASY solution is to simply tell iTunes that the location you want your tunes stored in is your Public folder. Items in your public folder can be seen and opened by others, so your wife could easily access the files there.
For you, go to your Music folder, find the iTunes folder, and drag it to your public folder.
Next, go to iTuness>Preferences and click on the Advanced tab, then the General Tab, and the first window you see is the iTunes Music Folder Locataion. Click Change, then navigate to the iTunes folder in you Public folder.
Now, next time you purchase a song from the iTunes store, or import songs from a CD, they will be stored in the iTunes folder, in your public folder.
You wife does basically the same thing except she navigates to YOUR public folder, and the iTunes folder inside.
She will have to manually find and import any new songs you add but at least your entire library will be available for her to listen to.
There are other ways of getting the same thing done, but I think this is the easiest.

Do you have to pay to get your music back if your computer deleted itunes?
My computer had got jacked up, and deleted my itunes and now I can't find my music. I called and they said I had to pay a fine to get it back? Is that true or can't I just get it back since I have an account.
Sorry, but officially Apple does not allow redownloads of purchased items other than iPhone/iPod touch applications. It's your responsibility to make backup copies (as iTunes itself advises) in case something goes wrong with your system, as unfortunately it apparently did in your case, and you lose all the information on your hard drive. The official statement of their policy can be found here, among other places.
For apps, look here for instructions on redownloading. For songs, movies, and videos, if your hard drive was erased and you don't have a backup of your purchased items, either on external media or another computer and don't have them on an iOS device (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad), you're probably out of luck and will need to repurchase your content.
If you have your content on an iOS device, post back and someone here can help you get them restored. Otherwise you can try contacting iTunes Store Customer Service (select the "Music Purchases" or "Video Purchases" category, as appropriate, then "Lost or Missing Items". You'll find either an "Express Lane" button - just follow the instructions to get to the contact form - or an "Email Us" button) ") and explaining what happened. Reportedly in some cases Apple has allowed redownloading on a one-time basis. But don't count on it.
BTW, this forum is for questions about iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store, which is probably why you didn't get a reply last night. Normally you want to ask your questions in the general iTunes forums.

Mac Pro sleeps after being woken up by WOL
Hi Folks
In order to wake up my Mac Pro on demand, I have set up Wake Over LAN (WOL) over the network and enabled "wake for network access" at System Preferences > Energy Saver on the Mac Pro. Now I am able to wake up the machine from my local router or across the Internet, but just wake up for a little while only.
The issue is, after the Mac Pro is being woken up by WOL for about 30 seconds, the machine always goes into sleep mode again for no reason. During the short alive period, the virtual machines running on the Mac Pro are pingable but the monitors are not on and the replaying YouTube video has no audio.
However, if I click the mouse or press the keyboard, the Mac Pro can be woken up as expected: the monitors are powered on, YouTube video is audible, all VMs are pingable too.
Why does my Mac Pro get woken up this way? How to fix it?
Thanks heaps in advance.
Regards,
B> Now I am able to wake up the machine from my local router or across the Internet, but just wake up for a little while only.
From my local router, I use below way to wake up the Mac Pro.
I can also wake up the Mac this way over the Internet.
For your information, I can successfully wake up other WOL enabled Windows machines this way on the same network with no problem.
As mentioned, both ways can only wake up the Mac Pro for about 30 seconds, then machine will automatically sleep again though at System Preferences I have set the computer to sleep after "3 hrs" or "never", as shown below.
What I expect is just to make the Mac Pro back to work the same way like I locally press the keyboard or click the mouse, not to automatically sleep again in seconds.
Any thought please? Thanks!

The behavior is normal when clicking the mouse or pressing the key to wake the Mac, the issue only occurs when trying to wake via WOL. Never thought the same wake process could have different results.
Please explain specifically how you are trying to WOL, what you want to accomplish by doing so, & how long you think whatever it is you want to accomplish should take.
Also, what VM's are you running & by what method do they run (like via Parallels or whatever). -
How to get details about disabled ID?
I've had a Verizon iPhone since late April 2011 (it's now June 8, 2011). Twice I've had the "disabled ID for security reasons" thing, and I can't figure out why. I'm the only human in the house. Unless the cat or his fleas have been trying to log in, it hasn't been me...
I got the message tonight, for instance. No trouble re-activating, but how do I get more details about what actually happened between last night and tonight, since I didn't get the message last night? I know that I haven't tried to manually log in for weeks. Is it a glitch that sometimes happens when downloading stuff automatically from the iTunes store? Or is some hacker actually trying to guess my password?
I frequently do start up iTunes (Snow Leopard 10.6.7) to download freebies. The only odd thing I remember in the past few days was when something labeled free triggered something that would have purchased it for real money if I clicked on a yes button. Other than that, the downloads have all just proceeded without fuss. The last phone system update was quite a while ago, although I did update some apps a few days ago.
I think I noticed the App Store was in the active list on my phone within the past few days, even though I didn't deliberately click on it. Also the phone app has started dialing (I think) when I didn't even start it up intentionally a couple of times. Is that what is happening with my id? Did the App Store think I was logging in for some reason? I would think a purchase would need to be started first, though, and I never have seen anything suggesting that's happened. And I don't think that actually happened between last night (no problem) and tonight (disabled).
So is there any place to actually check for activity, so I can figure this out?jwoolman wrote:

a reasonable assumption.
in any case, see these support articles:

Duplicate IP address using Mirrored switch ports
Hi All, Here's a good one. We use Websence and have an agent installed on one of our T1 Netras in a routed subnet. To collect info from all the traffic in that subnet we mirrored the uplink port to the gateway. Thus all traffic on that port is mirror
