Gf4-4200 Ms8870 Bios

Just got went to do the Live VGA Bios update on my MS8870 GF4 4200 and ahh...
well, it update to Version 4.25.00.29.00 (latest version).
Upon reboot, everything is garbled.... "4's" everywhere!
Card now reads as a GF4 4600 upon boot prior to POST????
Anyone know where I can get an older version of the BIOS to flash it back to a prior version? Any FTP access??? Live VGA BIOS will not go back...
Please let me know.
Thanks much!

If you properly flashed the card and still have this problem, then it's RMA time.
GlennVidia....thanks for all the help! We did find the link and got the file.
Flashed the BIOS with the right file and it is reading correctly.
Still having the problem though. Interestingly enough....the reason is is reading as a TI 4600 card prior to POST is because of the "4's" that UPTOWN is referring to above. After looking at this and beating ourselves up all morning with the BIOS (thinking the flash didn't work and verifying what was flashed, comparing data, etc.), we started looking at the "colums" that the "4's" are going down. (Bear with me cuz I know this is odd)....
It should show as such when first booting and the card pops up:
Geforce 4 TI 4200
128MB
etc.
But what is doing is this...
Geforce 4 TI 4600    44     44   44    44
128MB           44      44     44   44    44
etc.              44      44      44  44    44
                    44      44      44  44     44
                    44      44      44   44    44
                    44      44      44   44    44
                    44      44      44 .....etc. etc...
(Columns are not going to show up correctly in this post, but you get the jist..)
As you can see from above, the column where it should be reading as a "4200" is reading as a "4600"...but the "2" is being changed to a "6" because of the issues with the "4's". The reason we know this... is when the system posts or we load up using an EBD.....it changed all the characters in those specific colums to completely different characters when booting (another example: R's show up as T's....I hope this all makes sense since I am typing it out vs. being able to see what I am talking about)
The problem was never with the Video BIOS...although it happened right around the time the  Live VGA BIOS update was ran on this card from what I was told. Memory problem on a brand new board. Believe that??
*sigh*
RMA time! I can't do a thing else with it.
Thanks for all of your help again bud. We really, really appreciate it.

  • Msi kt3 ultra, msi gf4 4200 tvout problem

    I have a msi gf4 4200 64mb card and i have a msi kt3 ultra aru and windows xp,
my problem is tv out is garbled in pal , ntsc is grey (iam in europe), the colours seem inverted blues are red, etc and theres a ghosting effect around moving images like in videos or around the cursor
Ive tried everything from default mem setting , to high performance , tried diferent driver sets , tried windows 2000, tried via chipset drivers, latest msi, nvidia gf drivers, pal b , g , i , 60hz, diferent resolutions, clone view, single output to tv, stretch view , nothing seems to fix it, the only thing that comes close to fixing it is using the tvtool http://tvtool.info/ with color fix correction activated, but the images isnt stable its got a weird strecthing, shimmering effect on the bottom half of the tv image
Iam sure that the problem is not tv or cable related because i tried a friends p4 (board msi sis 645dx) with the exact same model gf4 4200 (not my one) with my scart cable and tv set up and it worked fine.
Could it be a voltage problem? ive even tried upping agp and core voltage a bit to see if helps, and nothing

    mhuizing,
nope havent tried a diferent tv , but it should work ,  i tested the connection with a friends computer
exact same gfx card model and it worked fine!
My old system leadtek gf3 ti200 , epox 8kha+ worked fine with this connection.
Iam using a scart cable to a video , then from the vid to the tv via antena cable
i upgraded and voila, i got some headaches for free  :P !!!

  • I need recover gf4 mx 440 BIOS

    hi to all
because I updated the bios of my videocard with Liveupdate, now I have problems to run some games, so I need the original bios of the following video card:
MSI vga G4 mx 440-T agp 4x 64 mb ddr tv out
    memory clock 400 mhz
    core clock 270 mhz
If someone have the same videocard, please do this:
-In advanced configuration of the screen propieters, check the bios version of your videocard
-if there says bios version 4.17.00.24, do nothing ;-) , I don't want it. Otherwise continue
    -download the NVFLASH (4.46) HERE
-copy the files of the zip in the C hard disk
    -in MS-DOS, type the following:
(If you have Windows XP it don't have MS-DOS soy you have to create a DOS boot  floppy to enter in DOS mode. Set up the bios of the mainboard to boot with the floppy and insert the floppy, then the floppy will be loaded)
    C:
    nvflash -b C:\backupbios.bin
This will backup the bios with the name backupbios.bin
-send me the backupbios.bin via email [email protected], or post it here.

If you use NVFLASH in the command of windows XP it will show this:

  • Gf4 4200 8x with agp 4x

Hi, i'm just wondering how the gf4 ti4200 8x will be affected on a 4x agp bus, will it lose much of it's capabilties? none of the places around here can get the standard ti4200 in, only the 8x, if it's gonna reduce performance by quite a bit, i'm not sure i wanna spend my money on one.

No it won't reduce performance at all. I have one too.
When you decide to uppgrade your mobo then your card will eventually be able to take advantage of the 8x.
    No worries 8)

  • Problems with 3.4 bios for k7n2-l

    1) everytime i switch my pc on, it hangs.  i have to press the reset button to get it to post.
    2) i got 5 entries of "memory controller" in device manager.  after flashing my bios, windows auto-detected these entries.
    3) i can't oc that high anymore.  my pc would hang if i set it to 191fsb. before, i can even reach 200.
i'm really disappointed with msi.  makes me wanna switch to another mobo manufacturer.  i'm just sick and tired of this motherboard.  i can't even set my ram voltage.

With my older kt266a chipset and a 1700+ cpu, I had the regular cpu temp higher than case temp.
But then I applied a patch that enabled the use of the CPU HALT command.  This effectively stopped the cpu completely when it wasn't doing anything.  The temps at 100% load did NOT change, but the temps at idle were dramastically different.
Considering the effectiveness of todays heat sinks, it is not unbelievable for a cpu temp to be lower than a case temp, as long as the cpu temp is above ambient.  In my case, I have 2 7200 rpm hard drives, which have 2 80mm fans blowing on them.  There is also an nvidia gf4 4200 which puts off a good deal of heat.  If the mobo temp sensor is located in such an area that it picks up the heat from those items, and the cpu get's airflow that has not been heated by those items, then I can see how there would be a large difference in temperature from mobo to cpu at idle.
at load, the cpu should be above mobo temps if you use a regular case and air cooling method.

  • Problem w/ gf4 ti and kt3 ultra2-r

I own 2 machines that are almost the same.
    Both have

    gainward gf4 4200
the only difference is the ddr ram.
Both machines are having the same exact error.
When i launch ANY game, the screen fills with colors and restarts.
I've used both cards in other machines and the work fine.
I've tried different vd cards in the machines and they also work fine, but they were not gf4 ti cards.
Is there a problem with these mobos and gainward gf4 ti cards?
I've flashed the bios,  Installed the new via 4-in-1 driver pack,  Used default settings on the mobo's, used the drivers that gainward sent, used the det xp 30.82 and the 40.72.
    None of this has worked.

  • Problem GF4 + chipset KT400Problem with Gf4+MS-6712 ATX MB VIA KT400

    Hi all,
    I have this pc:
    AMD 3000+ barton
    MS-6712 ATX MB VIA KT400
    512MB 333
    Radeon 9100 128MB
Now, I've tried to change the ATI 9100 with my "old" Abit GF4 4200 64Mb,but when i put the card in the pc,it doesn't start;no lights, no sounds, it seems to be completely off, like the power supply cable was not in.as i remove the gf4 the pc starts regularly.I've tried to change the power supply, putting in a 400w,with no results.i really don't know what to do
P.S. Sorry for my bad english,i'm italian

i'll try to explain and sorry again for my english
    For Maesus:
I tried to insert the card many times to see if i was doing something wrong, but it's all ok. The card enters without problems in the agp slot.
I've never tried this operation, cause i've never assembled a pc. All I've ever do is simply some peripherical changes like video card sound card power supply ecc ecc. I think i can ruin some part of the pc :(
    For Bonz:
I've watched the pins but there's nothing strange as i could see... the card is screwed and nothing block the agp slot :(
What sounds really strange to me is that with the radeon the pc works regularly and that with the GF4 the pc is dead :(

I got a RMA through NEWEGG.com and MSI.  I ended up sending it to NEWEGG.  RMA- Return Merchandise Authorization
Mine started out doing it every so often.  Then It was non stop.  I did a complete system rebuild and it still did it.  I stuck in a GF3 And a GF4 4200 and they worked fine.  I was the First time I ever had an Issue with a MSI product.  It was just one of those things.

  • Problem with new gf4 ti4400

well I just bought a geforce 4 ti4400.  Had some troubles installing it and finally got it working right with the 40.41 nvidia drivers.  The trouble is when I go into the system tabs and stuff they all say my cards memory is 64 megs.  I know for a fact its 128.  the MSI Information tab says its 128 but sandra says its 64 and so does 3dmarks 2001se.
    Any suggestions?

    Sebula,
I had a similar problem with my GF4 4200 128M - Sandra or 3dMark would tell me I had either 16M or 32M of video memory.
It was my PSU not delivering enough power. You could check (as I did), by removing all non-essential cards, drives etc, and slowing down the CPU (if you're overclocking). If it then shows the correct number(mine did),  it's your psu, and you need an upgrade.
Other posters have suggested the optimum PSU is one with a combined 3.3V and 5V rating of 200W. My new one is a 350W Enermax, with 185W on 3.3/5, and now I see the full 128M. HTH, YMMV.
    Good luck,
    John

  • CPU initialization hang on bootup- works w/o VGA card!?

After moving my system across country I have encountered a problem.  When I boot up my K7N2-L with 2200 and MSI GF4 4200, the system hangs on "processor initialization," as indicated by the D-bracket LED display.  Removing *just the VGA card remedies this problem and the system moves to boot up properly.
What could be the cause of this problem?  The only way I can see the VGA card affecting the CPU is by insufficient power or a short in the system.  Would this be a mobo problem, a CPU problem, a PSU problem or a VGA problem?  the system had worked fine months before I moved it.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Nathan

    All the Best...  :D !!!
I have reseated my processor- overheating is not the cause.  It has worked fine before.  I have cleared the CMOS, so BIOS settings are not the cause.  It is not low PSU power either (unless something is wrong with my PSU).  This system has been running fine for months until I moved it.  Thanks for your suggestions though...

  • How to reduce from 5º to 8ºC CPU Temp on your MSI K7N2 Delta!

I've installed this tweak last week and it is working very stable since then. It decreased my Idle CPU Temp from 42º to 36º and Overload from 54º to 48º:
    Just go: http://forums.pcper.com/showindex.php?t=280137
    AMD ATHLON XP 2600+ 12.5x333mhz 1.65V ~OC 11.5x400mhz 1.55V
    Thermaltake Volcano 9
    MSI K7N2 Delta L
    MSI GF4 4200-8X graphics Card
    160GB Maxtor HDD 7200rpm
    768MB Samsung DDR3200
    LG 48x24x48x/16x CDROM/DVD Reader
Dual Fan 450W Troni Power Suppy

It seems that the link to the tweak is broken, I've found another one:
    http://ftp://ftp.vector.co.jp/pack/win95/hardware/other/wpcre14.exe
This is what the article say:
Just tried it for the first time..It works GREAT
My idle temps are now 26c, down from 34c. That's 8C. I can have Winamp, IE and messenger running and CPU temps don't get by 29c.  Once i fire up, SETI though...I get back my regular Load temps at 39c.
Some of you probably know about it, already....here's for thousand others that don't.
This tweak can drop your idle CPU temps down as much as 8c, maybe more...depending on your system.
First thing you need to do is download WPCRSET & WPCREDIT.
    They're both in this zip.
    - Extract to a directory.
    - Run "INSTDD.EXE". Click Install. When done, you will be prompted for restart. Hit Yes! -
    - Then go back to the folder with extracted files, and open "WPCREDIT.EXE"
    - A ms-dos like window will pop-up. Move the blinking block (with arrow keys or your mouse pointer) until it says Offset 6F at the buttom. Now, click on the two digit number where it says "HEX", and change it to 1F (The Hex for Offset 6F would have previously been 9F, 8F or something else). Hit Set.
Your idle temps should now start falling.
You would have to do this hack/tweak everytime you rebooted your computer if it wasn't for WPCRSET.
    - Go to directory and run "WPCRSET.EXE"
    - Look at the top of the window: Enable select "Start" and make sure Device is on "enable"
    - Then click Add. Enter 6F for the register, and 1F for the data
    - Click Ok and you'll be prompted to restart.
Once, you rebooted, open WCREDIT again and see if the 6F register is still on 1F. If it is, then that's it..You're all done.
Here's a Screenie of how it should be:
This only brings your idle temps down, and not your full load temps
It should work for all nforce2s, and use at your own risk
Check your nf7-s for CPU Disconnect. Most other nforce2 motherboards do not have this feature in the bios...so this tweak might prove useful.
READ THE WHOLE THREAD BEFORE TRYING THIS!
If you run a Distributed Computing project...then obviously this would be of no use to you

It activates the C1 (and maybe the C2) function Athlon XP CPU's support. Most mainboard brands have this feature as an option in the bios you can enable and disable. I just found out that EPoX doesn't have that feature. So what you're doing is just using a direct reg tweak to activate it. It's not like you're forcing anything, the Athlon XP chips are made to support this feature so it shouldn't do any damage.
When the CPU is idle the mainboard will send a command to the CPU that will cause a part of the CPU to be deactivated (and therefore not produce any heat). That's why this tweak only works on the idle temp and doesn't change anything on the load temp. Ofcourse as soon as the CPU power is needed the deactivated part will become active again, so it should have any influence on the performance of the CPU.
Strangely, my full load temp has decreased 6º C degrees too.

  • Device failed to start (Code 10)

Here's a mind bender for you.
Hope the collective consciousness can provide some insight.
    The configuration:
    TBird 1333
    Epox 8k5a2+ (KT333)
    512MB DDR
    2x 40GB Maxtor HDD
    several GF4 4200's
    SB Live Player
    DLink DFE 530-TX
    400W power suppply
    Windows XP Pro
    The problem:
A seemingly random time after a clean Win-install, the Geforce4 driver will fail to start upon boot. Desktop will appear in 640x480 resolution 4 bit color, or, very rarely if I'm lucky, in 800x600x256.
In Device Manager the following error is displayed for the display adapter: "The device failed to start (code 10)". Translated, that means the driver could not start due to the hardware being absent.
Before this failure everything would work just fine, system is 100% stable. There is no traceable event that seems to trigger this problem.
After this failure there is no way to fix the system except to format and re-install or restore from a Ghost image taken before the trouble started. Well, there was one occasion where I was fed up with it one day, turned it off and when I powered up the next day it was working again (yes, I have a witness). Windows System Restore occasionally works too, mostly does not.
    Things I have tried:
Two different motherboards, one KT333, one KT133A, same problem.
All versions of BIOS of both boards (even modified ones)
    APIC and PIC IRQ modes.
All unneeded devices (serial ports etc.) disabled
Vga card has it's own IRQ, not shared
    Different versions of Detonator drivers
Different VIA 4 in 1 drivers
    With and without XP SP1
This happened with 3 different 4200's now, VisionTek, Leadtek, and now MSI. Other (older) VGA card in same system, no problem.
    Some other thoughts:
The fact that a restore from backup CD fixes the problem is a good indication that this is a software malfunction.
Does anybody have any idea what could possibly be causing this?
This has been going on for over a month now and I'm fed up. If I can't resolve this soon I will have to switch over to the Dark Side, as much as I would hate to.

try uninstalling all drivers under device manager even the hidden ones, and make sure its uninstalled in add/remove programs
    then restart
let windows find the card, restart
    then install ur Det drivers
rushing the computer on this one causes all sorts of problems, i did the same thing

    256 of 2100 ram
modded case with window and lights etc...
    antec true ps 350 watts
both are running xp home ed, with sp-1
I took the 1800 out and put it in my msi board and get the same temps as above, then out and put it back in the k7s5a, and get the temps above.
Something has to be wrong with this k7n2 board.
But like I said never had a crash or and problems at all.
I just figured that getting the new fan and artic silver would help alittle bit on the temps, but i guess i was wrong.

Recently I grabbed a msi GF4Ti4800se which came with a copy of ghost recon. loaded it up all ok...then went to start it, begain to load up, screen went black, is if was just about to start, then next thing I know im back at the desk top.
My question is why is this happening? and how can i fix it!

    any suggestions are welcome )

Did you try loading the latest nvidia drivers?  There are a couple of constraints apparently to get the bundled Ghost Recon to work:
    1) Need newer drivers than the MSI posted ones
    2) Cannot patch Ghost Recon with any of its own updates
I've sent a question into the MSI tech support (with no reply) on the patching issue - the Ghost Recon support folks say its a problem with the MSI bundled version of the game.
Personally i have the GF4 4200 8x card, and am running the nvidia 41.09 driver set and installed Ghost Recon without patching it and can play it.
