GF4 4400 Crashes when gaming

I'm hoping someone out here can help.  When I run 3d applications (games), after about 10-15 minutes I am either booted back to the desktop or given a BSOD (usually only after being booted once).  I'm on a pretty fresh install here, so I figure it has to be a setting somewhere.  Anyone out there have any clues?  My specs:

Athlon XP 2000+

  • System crash when gaming (Update: Temperature Problem?)

    Hello there
I have a problem: when starting games (Minecraft, Relics of Annorath, Portal, World of Goo tested) my Laptop crashes. The screen gets black and the only possibility to turn it back on is to remove the battery, wait 10 seconds and then reboot. I don't see any error messages, not in the journal and not in the Xorg.0.log. I have a HP 8470w with a Intel i7-3610QM Quad Core and a AMD FirePro M2000 grapics card. I am running kernel 3.10.10-ARCH with fglrx. Is anyone aware of this problem or can help me even just pointing out where to look for the problem? If you need more info, please tell me.

Could these 127°C be the problem? It's getting pretty hot while gaming but 127°C is almost impossible...

temp6, temp7, temp8 are strange.... but because it's impossible reach these temps (+127 and +0) I think those sensors are not used or bad report data
if you think it's a overheating problem, you must log temps (sensord+rrdtool)
so you'll get the latest temps before the PC crashes

  • MSI Hawk- AMD HD R5770 -Problem,Crash when Gaming

    Hi i have a msi hawk 5770 1gb and when i playing games it crashes with a black,-grey screen!But if i downclock from 875 to 775 it works fine,the tempartures are the same (875-775) idle 38,gaming 62max..
    System Specs
    Intel core 2 duo e6850 3.00ghz
    4gb 800mhz ram
    psu thermaltake 500
    mobo msi p45 ct51

    1) Remove current graphics card drivers, run >>Driver Sweeper<<, reboot and install latest drivers from AMD's website. Try the drivers from MSI's website too.
    2) Test the card with >>MSI Kombustor<<.
    3) Test with a better power supply.
    4) Test the card in another computer.
Does it happen in all games?

  • Xorg crashes when gaming

    Hello
Xorg crashes systematically when I play such games as Supertuxkart, Supertux, 0ad, Ennemy-Territory, Pingus,... It does also the same with google-earth
I can start playing but after some time, I get a black screen, my keybord gets blocked and the only when out is to make a hard shutdown.
Stopping the computer "manually" has also the disadvantage that the Xorglog gets lost, so I cannot see what causes the problem.
I am using Arch x86_64 with the last nvidia driver (I have a GeForce GT320 card) and I have installed the lib32 packages that are going with the video drivers.
Any idea on how to solve this problem?
    Thanks

I'm not an expert, but if only X crashed, you should be able to use REISUB https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Keyboard_Shortcuts
If you can't do even this, then it may be not just X, but the kernel.

  • Y410P Nvidia graphics drivers crash when gaming

Hello everyone. I'm having an issue with my IdeaPad Y410P where the graphics drivers for the system's GT750M will randomly crash. A search turned up this thread but it was of no help. Some details:- Problem began this May.- Problem does not occur after a specific period of time. It may happen after 5 minutes of gaming or an hour.- Problem occurs regardless of driver version, or whether I'm using Nvidia drivers or official Lenovo drivers.- Problem occurred in two Windows 8.1 installations and still occurs in Windows 10.- Problem occurs regardless of GPU temperature - I have monitored the system using GPU-Z and have not found any trends.- Problem occurs regardless of game played.- System usually recovers but game remains totally frozen after crash. At this point I'm starting to suspect that the graphics card itself is at fault. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be much appreciated.

Uninstall the currently installed version and and install the 6.14.0.104 version using the download links provided here:

  • System crashes when gaming with my gf4ti4200

    Hello,
I have been having problems with my MSI GEFORCE 4 TI4200 128MB DDR AGP TV OUT/DVI since the day i got it. It works perfectly fine for normal windows use, and even some games (unreal 2, splinter cell, etc). But whenever i try to run certain games like warcraft 3, mafia and nhl 2003, it locks up my system in the middle of gameplay.
I have tried plenty of drivers, none of them fixed the problem.  I have also installed the latest chipset driver and bios and still no luck.
    Im running a P4 2.4B Ghz, with a soltek sl-85dr2 motherboard, with 512ddr, window xp (w/ sp 1).
Overheating shouldnt be the problem, i lots of cooling in the case.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    thanks

I had all same problems u had, I even reinstalled my system to no avail. then I spoke to a friend of mine who is a system engineer he told me it was a conflict between Nvidia Drivers, my Chipset Drivers , and Windows XP.
he told me to try Nvidia Driver 30.82 which he reckons is Nvidias most stable driver and to download all versions of my chipset drivers and try them one as a time. I did this and found that the new VIA Hyperion 4.46 driver with the 30.82 worked fine so I would suggest you try this approach as I was pulling my hair out for well over a month until i tried this, I nearly came to a point of trashing my system and buying new board and graphics card. but after going on numerous forums it seems it a very common problem with must boards and Nvidia Graphic cards but all is well now thanks to my mate so please try this and u might find it does the trick. I get no problems now and all games work.hope this is some help to you

  • GF4 4400 Problems

    Dear Anyone,
I have just bought a GF4 4400.  My system spec is now:-
    P3 1ghz
    512mb ram
    GF4 4400 (128)
the card is running at 4xAGP.  I have A tft monitor so I run games mostly at 16bit colour and 1024 *784 res.
I have set my apperture size to 128mb in the bios.
My AGp slot is AGP*4 .  32bit, 3.3v shared PMe (whatever that means)
I am using the latest MSI specific drivers.  Is this right or should i use the Nvida ones? if so which version?  aaahhh.
Since fitting the card I have had I have had a number of occasions where my pc screen has gone black and powered off.  Also when I play IL-2 Sturmovik I get flickering graphics.
I thought buying this card would inject some life into my system and I must admit to being a bit brassed off.
Can anyone shed any light on this?
    Thanks
    Josh

Give the card a go at AGP 2X and see what happens.
If it works ok(slow but not crashing), the problem may lay with your PSU, or it is overheating.
    BTW what is your PSU.
As for heating, you should get buy with an extra case fan or two.  I had to install xtra IN fan & xtra OUT fan, and I have GF3.

  • Lightroom crashes when rendering Develop preview under Vista 64-bit

I'm running Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and Lightroom 1.1 crashes every time I click the "Develop" pane. My images are DNG files without the original RAW embedded.
Lightroom ONLY crashes when I load an image in Develop. If I open Develop without any image selected, it's fine (no image is displayed). I can zoom in to 100% in Library and it works fine. Exporting images to JPG works fine. Editing photos in the Library pane is fine. The crash data is:
    Problem signature:
    Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
    Application Name: lightroom.exe
    Application Version: 1.1.0.0
    Application Timestamp: 4677e8e1
    Fault Module Name: MFC80U.DLL
    Fault Module Version: 8.0.50727.163
    Fault Module Timestamp: 4484afec
    Exception Code: c0000005
    Exception Offset: 0002511c
    OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.256.1
    Locale ID: 1033
I've uninstalled LR 1.1 and reinstalled and it does the same thing. When I uninstall LR 1.1 and the install LR 1.0 (the previous version) Develop does open, but it doesn't render the images correctly - it looks like it misinterprets the white balance by about 1,500k degrees (very ugly), but Library shows the correct image/white-balance.
I've updated my nVidia 7900 graphics drivers to the latest version, appropriate to my OS and architecture. I've disabled XMP creation and Adobe Photo Downloader, as well as all other running applications (Antivirus, spyware, itunes, etc).
This USED to work fine in Vista and I did not make any significant changes, but I expect it's an issue with WindowsUpdate causing an incompatibility. I can't roll-back to my Vista state when it worked a month ago (that's another Vista frustration).
Anyway advice or comments would be GREATLY appreciated since this is an integral part of my professional workflow. I own a legitimate, licensed copy of both Lightroom and Vista, yet neither company is willing to talk to me unless I pay them money, which I think is complete extortion, but I digress.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Has anyone got a resolution on this? I have the same issue. Lightroom crashes when I click develop and the develop module begins to render the image. Clicking develop with no image selected allows the develop module to load however selecting develop on the menu bar and choosing either previous photo or next photo causes lightroom to crash while rendering an image.
I have a 64 bit capable HP XW8400 workstation with 2 dual core Xeon processors, 4 GB RAM, and a nVidia FX 4400 graphics card. This video card was put in as a test. the original video card was an nVidia quadra NVS something. When I ran the NVS card I used the drivers certified for Adobe CS2. I am running 32 bit Windows XP SP2 with all current updates. I do not have any MS office components installed on this system.
I read of some troubles around the Realtek HD audio driver and some Adobe applications (not Lightroom). Since I have this sound device I disabled it and removed the drivers...still crashes.
I also disabled the Intel VT in the system bios (I believe this is required to run 64 bit XP or Vista)... no change. Also disabled the NX feature...no change.
I also loaded VMware workstation 6.0 and installed Lightroom in a 32bit Windows XP SP2 VM. In the VM Lightroom works perfectly on the same machine...just not as snappy...
This stinks...Lightroom works perfectly on my poky laptop.

  • Xorg crashes when gamepads removed

I have a cheap off-brand PS2 (as in the system, not the old interface) gamepad to USB hookup I use for gaming. Recently, when I started plugging it in (hadn't used it for a while, no idea what update broke it) Xorg started crashing when I unplugged it. It works fine when plugged in, but Xorg immediately crashes back to the console (but doesn't close out, so I have to hard power the system) when I remove the controller. Mice and other devices work without problem, but my roommate's 360 USB controller also causes the problem.
Will provide more info if needed.
http://paste.ubuntu.com/593895/ - Xorg log when it crashes (reproduced).

I'd just like to say I have the same issue, about to check in a minute or two if this fix works.
EDIT: Works. Isn't this in a core arch package, so might sneak back in? If that's the case, is there a more "proper" fix?
EDIT 2: A quick `pacman -Qo ...` says it's part of xorg-server. That could be a major pain. A proper fix is very welcome

  • MSI gt683 - constant crashes while gaming

    Hello
I decided to look for solution in forum, cause this problem is drivin me nutz.
I have really frequent crashes in almost every game i play (even on the lowest possible details) Games like heartstone, heroes of newerth, which i find not really advanced in case of graphic, cause frequent crashes. It happens in mass effect 2, fallout 3, , and practiclly every other. Games like guild wars usually freeze in loging screen already. There are few particular types of the problem
    1. Screen goes black for a half a second and then goes back to the game ( i can see my desktop for a while) - i guess it has to do something with graphic card (nvidia gtx 560m)
    2. Screen goes black for a half a second and goes back to the game (can see desktop as well), but it changes resolution for the game to other (higher)
    3. The gaming screen goes blue/browny/black and i have to restard computer
    4. The games Freezes totally, cant open the menager, however programs in a background (like skype) are still working
    5. Games slows down 1000000% (mouse bearly moving) and eventually completly stops (no programs in a background working). I can hear this buzzing sound
This problem happens all the time ( even if computer was sleeping whole night, in the morining it starts to freez after i try to play anything). Problems never occur when i watch videos, listen to music etc.
Recently i got a issue with a conector( i believe its called, the part where the power supply is attached). Guy fixed it, and cleand from dust + exchanged the thermal grease. The problem is still occuring.
About 2 weeks ago I've made a windows recovery, in the beginning was slightly better (could play few more games  with few less crashes), but in the end its almost not playable again. I have no idea where should i look for the solution to this problem. I hope You guys will have any idea Thanks a lot in advance!
PS: Is it possible that it might be a sound problem? I just realised, the game  (heartstone) didnt crash when i had my sound disabled in it

    Do you have crashing photos?
Tell your current system information(BIOS/EC/VGA driver version). You can check your BIOS and EC version in BIOS menu, System Information.
For the mouse, are you using touch pad? or external mouse?
You can find BSOD dump files at  c:\windows\minidump and check it by using BlueScreenView.

  • Qosmio G40 - graphic card keeps overheating and crashing while gaming

My nVidia 8600GT card in my Qosmio G40 laptop keeps overheating and crashing when Im gaming.
It runs all the games I put on it fine, but overheats then crashes and kicks me out of the games Im playing.
Is it just because its a laptop and its prone to do this?
I have tried to increase the fan speed using riva tuner and precision, but neither program allows me to access to the fan speed utility.
I presume this is because its a laptop specific card... I also cannot find driver updates for this card from nVidia.
    Please help.....James

    Hi!
Are you using the Toshiba display driver? This is important because the manufactures driver dont have an overheat protection and so the graphic chip can be damaged.
Furthermore this could be also an overheating issue. So you should clean your notebook with compressed air spray that you can buy from a local computer dealer.
Last but not least I would not try to change the fan speed or something else. This will be controlled automatically.
    Bye

  • Firefox crashing when closing and at other random times

Hi - I'm running firefox 6.0.2 on a Win7 64-bit machine that my cowowker uses. Starting a day or two ago, FF began crashing instead of starting. I can start it in Safe Mode, and I believe I've removed all the add-ons. When in safe mode I can use FF, but it still crashes occasionally, especially if I'm trying to open something in another tab or window. Also, it crashes when I click the X; at least, it shuts down and then the crash reporter pops up. Windows is updated, and I'm stumped. Hope someone can help! Here's the crash report on one of the crash-on-X-click events.

This report also contains technical information about the state of the application when it crashed.

The message to restart your computer, in multiple languages, is a kernel panic. This is usually, but not always, caused by hardware, with memory being the leading cause.
You might want to run the Apple hardware test, which is on the original gray-faced OS X disks that came with the mini. FInd the one that says 'AHT Version x.x' in small print on the label, insert and reboot holding the alt/option key down. Choose the Apple hardware test, and when prompted, choose the extended test. You can also download Rember from http://kelleycomputing.net/rember/ if you want to really test the memory. Set it up and let it run over night.
See this kernel panic FAQs for other ideas: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html

Here is a screenshot of all the crashes since this started a week ago:

    Any help would be appreciated.

One of the bug reports linked to your crashes says the HTTPS Everywhere extension could be a contributing factor. Would you try disabling it for 48 hours and see whether that makes any difference?
You can do that on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Ctrl+Shift+a
    * orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions.
Some of these crashes are related to the "Just in Time" (JIT) JavaScript compiler(s). You could try disabling some of those features to see whether that helps. Alternately, you could run Firefox in its Safe Mode for a period of time since that disables them automatically (but in that case, extensions also are disabled).
    ''To disable individual preferences:''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''javas''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the following preferences to switch them to "false":
    * javascript.options.baselinejit.chrome (Firefox UI)
    * javascript.options.baselinejit.content (page content)
    * javascript.options.ion.content (page content)
There might be other relevant items but we're a little out of my depth here.
''If you prefer to test using Firefox's Safe Mode:''
You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using
Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled ''(Flash and other plugins still run)''
In the small dialog that should appear after Firefox exits, click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Reset)

  • Crash when starting a performance/memory profile

I'm having a catastrophic crash when I hit the 'Start' button in the Profile -> Performance and Memory... dialog. There is no error message whatsoever, and when I restart Labview, it only asks me about files to recover, it doesn't tell me where it crashed (i.e. somefile.cpp line ###). Well, it might have told me once, but now it doesn't, so unless there is a log of these things somewhere, I can't say much more.
I'm using Labview 2009, and I'm having the exact same issue on at least 2 machines which are fairly different (Win XP 32 bit vs Win7 64 bit (with Labview 32 bit)).
The application is pretty large (~1500 vi's), so it's kind of hard to tell what is making it crash.
The problem can be replicated in different ways:
    1) Load main VI which loads all the VI's in memory
    2) Start Performance/Memory profile *crash*
    1) Load VI
    2) Start VI (runs in a loop)
    3) Start Performance/Memory profile while it runs *crash*
    1) Start Performance/Memory profile
    2) Some NI VI's show up in the list with '0' time everywhere
    3) Load VI
    4) Execute VI
    5) Stop execution of VI *crash*
Any clues? Is there a log somewhere that could help me/you find the issue?
I could spend all day trying to load different parts of the project and look for problems, but I have no idea what to look for.
Last Friday I had successfully profiled what I wanted to, then I had another crash... Oh I remember now... I did a 'Search' in my project, looked for a particular string, and it crashed after a while in the middle of the search. Since then I was unable to use the profile tool. Could it be some data corruption? We use SourceSafe... so I wouldn't be surprised if it gave me a corrupted file If so, how could I find it?
    Thank you

    Hey Samapico,
I actually found an incident like yours involving the performance and memory tool crashing when used for specific VIs which were very large. How big (in terms of filesize) is your VI?
R&D found this issue in LV 2009 and fixed it in 2010 under Corrective Action Request 215410.
Is there any way you could try and test your issue out on a machine with LV 2010?
