Gforce MX440

ok I have a driver issue with my GeForce MX440.
when I install the updated drivers I can play Splinter Cell fine, but I can't watch any videos on my TV but when I use the older drivers that came with my card I can watch video great on the TV but I can't play Splinter Cell anymore, the graphics are all messed up.  I really hope somebody has some idea of what (if anything) I can do to fix this so I don't have to keep installing the new drivers to play the game and rolling back to the old ones when I want to watch a video.

yes i have the same problems on one of my pcs with an mx440 where it works in certain games but not others unless you roll back drivers. very annoying

  • NVIDIA gforce 4 MX440-T8X

I'm having compatibility problems with a PC game called 'Sacrifice'.
When I try to run it, a 3D_D3D.DLL error window appears displaying the message 'No valid D3D video cards found'; followed by another window (Program exiting) displaying the message 'Error initializing graphics library (-1)'.
I asked the game provider for a solution.  They believe the problem is with Windows XP, but they didn't seem secure.

    Claudio Pugliese,
Try downloading the latest DetonatorFX Drivers from the nVidia Website.

  • G4 MX440-VTD8X Stats

Using a MSI k7t Turbo Limited Edition i spent hours trying to find out about the mx440:
Windows 2000 Pro: neither video in or out work
Windows Xp Pro: Capture works but not output

It usually take a bit when oppening overlay tab, because it checks if there is any overlay working. To make any change to the overlay settings, you should open any program that uses overlays (vg. TV software, Media Player with any movie,...). If not, all the overlay settings will be disabled.
About the dealy when oppening the OpenGL tab, I have no idea... take a look at http://www.guru3d.com, and download "detonator destroyer" (or something like this), and make a heavy uninstall of detonator drivers, then reinstall them, and try again

  • What is the size of capture window for MX440-VTD8X?

I am trying to figure out how best to resize video I have captured with my MX440-VTD8X. For the application I am using (AVISynth) I need to calculate the PAR (Pixel Aspect Ratio), for this I need to know the size of the capture window for my video capture card.
I think that this card uses a Philps SAA-7114H, although I cannot be certain as MSI don't seem to publish this fact anywhere. (I found a few references to the 7114 via Google so that is the best lead I have had so far).
Anyway, even if I knew it used a 7114H that doesn't much help as I can't find any published data that tells me what the capture window (in microseconds) is for this card. The WDM driver might modify the window so how, so I can't just look it up in the datasheet for the 7114H.
I am looking for figures for the capture window for both PAL and NTSC,
    could someone please help?
    many thanks,
    Kevin

To quote from the article I have been using which gives step-by-step instructions on how to calculate to aspect ratio ..
(Pixel Aspect Ratio, Source Aspect Ratio and Target Aspect Ratio)
"To determine your source PAR, you first have to know what the aspect ratio of the capture window of your capture device is. This capture window is fixed, but again it is rarely exactly 4:3. The device always digitizes the same area of your video and resizes it to the size you set in your capture application. The raw captured height is always 480 lines for NTSC and 576 for PAL. The width of the capture window has to be determined. A table with known values (and a more elaborate explanation) can be found in section 5.4. A method for determining this value yourself can be found in chapter 11.
Once you know the capture window width, the Image Aspect Ratio of your device can be calculated as:
    PAL IAR = (4 / 3) * ([window width in µs] / 52.0 µs) / (576/576)
    NTSC IAR = (4 / 3) * ([window width in µs] / 52.6555 µs) / (480/486) "
The 'window width' is given for some capture cards in the guide, but unfortunately not the MSI one I am using, and the 'window width' does vary from one type of capture card to another.
Without this information I am at a brick wall. There is a method to determine the window by using a PAL DVD player as the source video, playing some test image, the problem is that I only have an NTSC DVD player so I can't use that technique,
this is something that the manufacturer must know, but unfortunately they rarely publish it,
    Kevin

  • Does mx440-T has capture ability???

I have mx440-T. I insert 1-to-4 video cable (2(S),2(C) in/out) to 9-pin jack. I plug camcorder to video in composite jack, I install vivo 2.20 and update the nvidia vga driver. I install iuvcr capture program. but when I start the program there is an error prompt saying "video capture device not found". does anyone manage to capture video? does this card have capture ability?

The MX440-T does not support video capture

  • 128MB RAM MX440?

I purchased a system from Gateway a few weeks ago and it came with what they say is a GEForce4 MX440 Graphics Card with TV out and supposedly it has 128MB of RAM:
Link for the card and specs on it
On that page if you click on the "Specifications" link it says the manufacturer is MSI. So I look for this card on the web, on Gateways support site, on MSI sites, and called Gateway to about it.
There was no info on a 128MB MX440 card except that one that said Gateway was going to carry it. Of course Gateway Tech support has no clue about anything. The guy said I shouldnt mess around with drivers because updating drivers is the same thing as overclocking (lol what a moron).
So has anyone ever heard of a card like this before? The more I look into it the more I think Gateway is putting 64MB cards in boxes and calling them 128MB.

    Guys
Thanks for your tips. On the primary master not being detected, my WD HDD is on IDE 0 with the CDRW and DVD on IDE 2. So, I removed the jumper switch on the HDD and eureka! primary master detected immediately and also no more beeps so the RAM problem seems to have sorted itself out too.
Talking about RAM, I am now considering changing the 512Mb unbranded stick I use to a branded one but I notice the prices vary widely and there are so many choices. Do I go for Corsair, Kingston, Samsung, Crucial, Nanya or Geil. I know just from reading these posts that a wide variety are being used successfully with the KT4V but other have compatability problems - so I am confused. I guess you guys have your own preferences?
Also, is there any real noticeable performance difference between PC3200 (400MHz) and PC 2700 (333HHz)? I play a few games like Ghost Recon where I like the graphic detail to be high, so would the PC3200 justify the extra expense?

  • Freakish MX440 T8X problems

Okay chaps, maybe one of you can give me some clues here...
I bought two of these cards from eBuyer, and built two PCs using them. The only difference was the first one had Win XP, the second had 98SE... and didn't work properly!
Now, I know I'm a luddite using 98SE, but please bear with me. The symptoms were as follows: no reporting of card pre-POST (seemed pretty weird to start with), then when I installed the supplied drivers and restarted I was unable to change the resolution to more than 640x480 @ 16 colours. Anything else caused a double-restart and reset them again, plus a message saying I had the wrong display settings.
    PC spec is Asus A7N8X-X mobo, Athlon XP2500, Crucial 256MB PC2700, Seagate 7200.7 80GB.
Just to check, I stuck it in my PC which is a creaky old P3-550 in an Abit BX-something board, and I got very similar results.
Then (there's more!) I took it to work, and tried it in two PCs with Gigabyte GA-7DXE mobo, XP2000 and Crucial PC2100, one with Win 2kPro SP4, the other with 98SE. Both had InnoVision GeForce 2's in originally.
They both worked!!! Damn! But still not quite right - the 98SE one recognised it as an InnoVision MX440-8 and seemed to work okay, but still no pre-POST message and the screen flickered REALLY badly each time the setting changed on boot up. The one on Win2k reset itself to basic VGA settings and then seemed to be okay once I ran the MSI install utility and cranked up the resolution, but again, no pre-POST identification and when I tried to select the nVidia menu on the display settings I got a nasty error message and there was nothing in the menu.
I'll stop boring you all now, but I'm trying to work out if the card really is flaky, or if it's just me. I build quite a few PCs and have never seen the like before!
Thanks for reading this far (you must be dedicated, or bored), any suggestions appreciated!

I'm beginning to agree with m'learned colleague Kingfisher about eBuyer. In fact, I sent the tale of my woes to Mike Magee at the Inquirer, and since he published it there have been hordes of others agreeing with me.
    http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=14037
    http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=14098
What a shame - they're very cheap, but without customer service I think I'll just have to use someone who gives a damn in future, even if it's a little more expensive.
I did get the latest drivers from the nVidia site, and it seems to have fixed things - but why would MSI ship a card with blatantly defective drivers? It's not like it's a cutting-edge product or anything.   (Okay, I'm just toying with the smilies now, sorry).
Still seems very slow in booting, and a bit twitchy overall - I've built other similar systems and with a clean 98SE install it should do the basics (at least startup and shutdown) like greased cow dung off a teflon shovel. I wonder if the mobo's sick... but hey, that's an Asus, so not something to be discussed here!

  • MX440 - T8X Can't get the card over 2X

    I have an MSI MX440 - T8X 64mb DDR vga card. (upto 8X agp)
MSI 694T - Pro Motherboard. (upto 4X agp)
                   Pentium 3 1Ghz.
                   512mb memory.
I have installed uptodate bios for motherboard and vga card.
Up to date via 4in1 chipset drivers. (and sound drivers) v.449
tried latest Nvidia drivers and latest MSI vga drivers.
Put "auto" for agp speed in bios setup. (also tried on 4X)
    no overclocking at all.
Somehow i had 4X in agp speed on display properties before i upgraded
    the bios and drivers.
Can't fluke it out again though...
Please help... It's a shame to have the extra speed and not be able to use
it. (also can you usually test agp on dxdiag?.. i don't have the test button
on there just Test DirectDraw and Test Direct3D)

    HockeyFan,
Unfortunately no one from MSI reads these threads, we are all users helping one another.
You mentioned that you flashed the BIOs on the VGA card, VGA cards are not like motherboards and they generally don't require flashing unless there is an exact reason and the manufacturer clearly states the benefit of doing so. I constantly see users using live update to do this and it can often lead to problems.
EDIT **** I overlocked the Title
Ok, Did you save the original BIOS for the VGA card? Try flashing it back to the original one.

  • Nvidia 41.09 driver--- GF4 MX440??

    hi
    I ve GF4 mx440 and I m using nvidia 41.09 driver...
I m not satisfied the performance...
Do you know a better driver...??

If you want to try newer drivers newer than the 41.09, then you may want to take a look at the NVIDIA drivers at Guru3D and try the 43.00 driver. I am trying it out right now and it gave me a slight frames boost in a few games. I am running DirectX 9.0 by the way.

  • HP W2371d and Nvidia GForce 8500 GT not filling screen

Nvidia GForce 8500 GT came with my circa 2005 desktop. My original monitor finally died and I just bought an HP W2371d. I don't know if the issue is with the video card and/or the monitor itself so I'm posting both places. I've checked for newest drivers for both. They see each other and the monitor is automatically selecting the native resolution which is 1920x1080. I'm running Windows 7.
My issue is that I cannot get the image to fill the monitor screen completely. AND it cuts off the right edge slightly. So where Windows 7 offers a space that when clicked takes you to the desktop, I can't see that and I lose the last part of the time and year too.
When I go to http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/ it says my screen resolution is 1536 X 864 which is weird. That's not what Nvidia says. It says 1920x1080 is selected.
I've tried using both the Nvidia settings and the monitor hardware settings to no avail. When I got to IMage Control the Custom Scaling is grayed out so all I can do is nudge the entire image to fill the blank black space on the right. But it doesn't make the image fit within. I've tried many of the other resolutions and they all distort and do not fix the issue.
Where is there a disconnect? Oh....I'm using a VGA cable with a DVI adapter on it as it's all I had. Will buying a DVI cable fix this? Or do I need a different video card (would rather not go that route if possible). What am I missing here?
    Thanks.

Just want to report back...I went digging and uncovered a DVI cable in my drawer of cables. That fixed the problem. YEAH! Although it's odd to me that when I go to http://www.whatismyscreenresolution.com/ it STILL says my screen resolution is 1536 X 864.

  • GeForce 4 MX440 not working properly

    Dear all.
    Can somebody help:
I just bought a computer with a MX440 card, and games, even the bundled games, don't display properly. Especially when coming across lights (torches, night vision), window panes and mirrors, the screen goes hay-wire with all sort of strange colors, shapes and distortions. I have tried different settings, downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia,am on DirextX 8.0. Any suggestions. Buying a new card is not an option, as the choice here in Vietnam is rather limited.

Ya know I get so tired of ppl that bash MSI or any other company in the world for their own shortcomings...
You guys, meaning you bashers, obviously have limited knowledge of what you're doing or you wouldn't have the issues that you have...
You make me mad when you say what you say when you don't know half of what you should know in order to be doing what you're doing...it's not right at all. If you want help then come here and get it but when you start bashing the hardware for your inability and ignorance of the history of computer hardware then you start to me off!
Now onto your problem...the MX series of video cards do not support a lot of features that games nowadays use like Translucent Lighting among others and what you will see happen is that your screen will freak out, the game will lock up and numerous other issues. The GPU in this card wasn't designed to support these features and YOU made the WRONG choice in buying that card to play high end games on. You have to also remember that MOST video card manufacturers DO NOT DESIGN THE GPU that resides on their video cards but yet you blame them anyway. They build the card by following the GPU manufacturers specifications (and no it's not always to the letter as MSI and ASUS usually go beyond the spec to make their cards better, sometimes they miss too which I expect cause after all, aren't we all human?) to bring finished product to the market that MOST of us use daily and are happy with. You bought a card that I was using 2 years ago and back then the games I played on it ran just fine and the rendering was really very good. The newer games that were coming down the road back then led me to buying my Gainward card because I knew that the power of a GF4 Ti4600 was going to be plenty good enuff for any of the games released thru 2003. Now I'm getting to the point of seeing that I'm going to have to upgrade soon as the newer games are going to require a beefier card to play them.
Also don't always think that just because a new driver was released to the public that it's going to install and work flawlessly. I've seen nothing but problem after problem with the past two drivers that Nvidia has released. And NO not everyone is having a problem with them. Just some are and that may be you and the setup that you're running. ALL of your hardware comes into play here guys as the machine is like an orchestra playing a symphony. If the Tuba player is drunk do you think he's going to play in time with the rest of the band? I would think not in most cases...this is also true with drivers and the OS that you're using. It's all got to work in unison so that the melody comes across to you with that sweet lilting grace that an orchestra can produce.
The last driver that I saw that didn't have issues from Nvidia was 41.09. ATI couldn't write a decent driver for their life prior to last year when they released the 9000 series video cards...in my mind I thought, "Gee, they must have finally hired a good programmer that knows how to write drivers" and you can ask gfilliti cause I know I said this to him.
All in all I would uninstall your drivers off of the machine you have right now, use Drivercleaner or manually delete ALL of the old drivers off your machine and reinstall the 41.09 drivers and see if that helps at all.
If in fact it doesn't then come back and post here and we'll try to help you, but if all you're going to do is bash or whine because of your shortcomings then plz do it somewhere else huh?
    Cheers!! 8)
