GGMonitor-Stopping &starting related goldengate monitor processes.

Hi All,
I have installed the Goldengate Monitor on a server.
For maintenance purposes I am planning to bring down the database.
As part of this What is the procedure for bringing down the Goldengate monitor processes and bring it up back again ?
Thanks,

Monitor can be stopped and restarted with the <Monitor Install Directory>/bin/monitor.sh stop and <Monitor Install Directory>/bin/monitor.sh start commands
It may or may not be necessary to stop the JAGENTs of each of your OGG installs prior to stopping Monitor. I'm not sure actually. The JAGENT might reconnect just fine though when Monitor is back up. Something to test.

  • Stop/Start OGG

    hi,
I am using OGG and is working well (two-way replication)
Every night, my databases are stopped and started (for snapshot backup)
    my question:
is it better to stop/start OGG with the database
or let OGG running all the time ?
    Thanks for your help

Ideally, it would be better to stop GoldenGate and here is why:
    1. You know for sure that all transactions in the source have been replicated/applied to the target. You won't have source at SCN 123 and the target at SCN 119. You won't induce a synchronization problem.
    2. What if scenario - suppose while the databases are closed, something happens to the trails?
    3. What happens to a long-running transaction? Do you want to deal with bounded recovery issues? (answer: no)
    4. You won't be adding/generating irrelevant errors to GoldenGate processes, those about not being able to connect to the database. It just adds clutter to detail reports, and if you have any monitoring built-in, you can avoid generating irrelevant alerts.
You can use the event marker infrastructure (i.e., send a message to GoldenGate to stop replicat or other processes), or if using regular scripting, check for lag being 0 after extract is stopped.

  • Problem in starting the J2EE server0 process.

    Hello Experts,
We have EP 7.0 in our landscape, and when we try to start SAP J2EE engine. It shows the server0 process only for some time and later this process stops automatically. Even the WatchDog process stops.
Is there is any configurations we need to do- or parameters or tuning that we need to do to keep the server0 up ?
If there are post installation steps document which talks about these issues, it would be great.
    Thanks

  • SMF and monitored processes

    Hi Folks,
Please look at the following description.
I have implemented a manifest and method for the JES Messaging Server. The JES Messaging Server uses a script called start-msg to bring imap / pop / http /smtp services. I am running in to problems after implementing the manifest and the method.
Question 1: the ./start-msg script ( which we use to start the Messaging Services ), starts a bunch of processes. eg. imap / pop / http / etc. as shown below. I would assume since my manifest uses start-msg. All the services ( processes ) started by start-msg should be monitored under SMF ?
    # svcs -p svc:/network/messaging_server:default
    STATE STIME FMRI
    online 11:20:01 svc:/network/messaging_server:default
    11:19:54 3245 watcher
    11:19:54 3247 stored
    11:19:56 3248 imapd
    11:19:58 3252 mshttpd
    11:19:59 3254 imsched
    11:19:59 3256 dispatcher
    11:20:00 3259 job_controller
    11:20:00 3260 tcp_smtp_server
    11:20:00 3262 tcp_smtp_server
    11:20:01 3267 AService
    11:55:00 3293 msprobe
Question 2: So I tried killing one of the processes Example : kill -9 this restarts the entire messaging server, Well and good, but say that we don't want this to happen. We want only the process that died should be restarted. In other words Is it possible for us to have a fine granularity, so that only imap gets restarted ?.
Question 3: seems like SMF doesn't recognize pkill, if i repeat the same experiment above with pkill imapd it doesn't seem to notify the SMF
Question 4: By looking at the svcadm usage below, my method (msg) has start / stop / refresh will this suffice ?.
svcadm enable [-rst] ... - enable and online service(s)
svcadm disable [-st] ... - disable and offline service(s)
    svcadm restart ... - restart specified service(s)
    svcadm refresh ... - re-read service configuration
The following is a very detailed description:

Your problem is not due to a deadlock in SMF code. Your problem is that
not all of the processes which implement the service have been stopped, so
SMF assumes that the service hasn't been stopped yet.
By "simple modifications" I mean that if the processes that you need to be
in separate contracts are launched by a script, then you can just change
the script to launch them with "ctrun", which launches the processes in a
new process contract. This would usually be considered an unsupportable
modification of the software, though, so the vendor may choose not to
help you fix any problems you may encounter.

  • Monitor Processes on Windows 2000 or XP

Can someone help? How do you monitor processes on a Windows platform. I would like to write my own application in java to monitor processes on windows 2000/XP. Where do I start? class Runnable or class Process?
    thanks
Here's another post that relates to this.
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=54&thread=386882&tstart=0&trange=15

Definitely not Runnable. And Process is only going to do you any good if your Java class was the one that started those processes running. My guess is that isn't the case.
Personally I wouldn't use Java to do what you are asking about. I am sure there are Windows APIs for that sort of thing, which you could readily use in a Microsoft-specific language, but those APIs haven't been made part of the Java API.

  • Backup stopped before completing. The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process

I am working with a client who is attempting to backup to a NAS device
The device is a linksys NSS6000 (Cisco device).
It’s a dual 1Gbit LAN device that supports CIFS / FTP and NFS transfers. It has only 1Gbit lan connected.
The device has 4 *  500 gb sata drives in raid 1  attached.
Cables go from cat 5 to fiber back to cat5. (The NAS  is located at a neighboring office) The switches are 1gbit.
Server is a win2k8r1 fully up to date.
When backing up to the NAS device, the following error occurs:
Running backup of volume Local Disk(D:), copied (86%).
Running backup of volume Local Disk(D:), copied (90%).
Running backup of volume Local Disk(D:), copied (94%).
Running backup of volume Local Disk(D:), copied (98%).
Backup of volume Local Disk(D:) completed successfully.
    Backup stopped before completing.
    Summary of backup:
    Backup stopped before completing.
The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.
If we redirect the backup to a folder on a 2008 share, the backup completes successfully.
Only when backing up to the linksys NSS6000 does the error occur.
No other backup processes are writing to the NAS device so I can't understand why the process thinks the file is
    being used by another process.
One thing we did notice that when the backup to the NAS device occurs, throughput is about 150 mbit average
On the 2008 server shares we successfully backup to, the through put is 500 mbit.  Not sure if that is important, but
    might be worth mentioning.
The following event log entry was noted at the end of the backup.
The description for Event ID '519' in Source 'Microsoft-Windows-Backup' cannot be found.
The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display the message,
or you may not have permission to access them.  The following information is part of the
    event:'2009-05-12T10:13:31.617Z', '', '2147942432', '%%2147942432'
    Any ideas?
    Thanks..Michael

I am also seeing the same problem backing up nightly to a brand new NAS device (WD My Book Live)
All the error codes are the same as those in this thread.
    From Windows Event Viewer:
The backup operation that started at '‎2011‎-‎03‎-‎25T06:00:19.811302700Z' has failed with following error code '2147942432' (The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.). Please review the event details
for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved.

  • Stop/start logical standby db

    Version 10203 on AIX
Have to stop/start logical standby db, new to data guard, Please confirm these are the steps to do that
    on primary db
    SQL > alter system switch logfile ;
SQL > alter system archive log current ; ( to make sure current transactions come thru)
check tail of alert log of standby to make sure these redologs shipped & mined
    standby db
SQL> ALTER DATABASE STOP LOGICAL STANDBY APPLY; (stop SQL Apply)
    SQL> shutdown immediate;
    Lsnrctl stop listener_corp_remrpt-haprimary db
    SQL > shutdown immediate ;
    Lsnrctl stop listener_corp_remprd-ha
Dont shutdown abort for any case, if both dbs are going down, first stop SQL apply on standby, take primary down and then take standby down)
    Startup
    primary
    SQL>startup;
    Lsnrctl start listener_corp_remprd-ha
    Standby
    SQL > startup
    SQL > alter database start logical standby apply immediate ;
    Lsnrctl start listener_corp_remrpt-ha

    Hi
As you posted ,you are using Real Time Sql apply,So,it is LGWR who transfer changes to standby site.It is very safe to follow these steps for new user.
    1.Stop logical standby apply(Standby Database).
    2.Shutdown Primary Database.
    3.Shutdown logical standby Database.
    At startup
    1.Start Logical Standby Database.
    2.Start Primary Database.
    3.Start logical standby apply.
At the case when primary database is taking long time to shutdown processed ,You can also use
shutdown abort, but before doing abort be sure you have stop logical standby apply. When your primary database started,it automatically perform instance recovery.Primary site have to resolve gap in this case.
At the case when you must have to perform shutdown abort at primary database, you can do it.By doing it you will not loose anything.Primary database has to resolve gap and it will take time to be consistent with primary site.

  • Stop/start in PGW active/standby mode

    Hi all
My VOIP Network has 2 PGW in active/standby mode. But when we add more telco, the state of ss7path is OOS. i must stop/start the PGW and ss7path is IS status.
Now PGW is running services. it processing many call with other telco.
i have question need to support.
When we stop/start PGW,has PGW disconnected all call or not?
    Thank for supporting
    PhaiLQ

If you restart the service on active pgw, calls are disconnected. If you don't want out of services you must pass the control to the standby server first.
From mml console of active server use the command:
rtrv-ne    to check the status, the output is:
        MGC-01 - Media Gateway Controller 2010-09-07 16:53:42.655 MEST
    M  RTRV
       "Type:MGC"
       "Hardware platform:sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240"
       "Vendor:"Cisco Systems, Inc.""
       "Location:MGC-01 - Media Gateway Controller"
       "Version:"9.6(1)""
       "Platform State:ACTIVE"
sw-over::confirm to swich control to standby server
    now restart the service
    /etc/init.d/CiscoMGC stop
    /etc/init.d/CiscoMGC start
P.S. If I remember the right way, the OOS (out of service) state of new ss7 path can be set in IS (in service) via mml command line without service restart.
set- your ss7 path ::IS   use tab for help

  • SLD server has stopped; start the SLD server in Administration

I am trying to configure Technical Systems in SLD (for deploying a webdynpro application which has models). Logged in as Administrator. I see this message when I login from the portal (https://host:port/sld):
"SLD server has stopped; start the SLD server in Administration." And all the links are greyed out.
When I log in to the Visual Admin, services->Sld->and tested the connection (with same ID as Administrator), I see "connection test failed CIMClientObject"
What ID, password should I be using for testing the connection for SLD in visual Admin. Or is this related to ID password at all.
    Thanks
    Srinivas

    Thanks for the replies!
I still have the same problem.
When I select the SLD Data Supplier under services in Visual Admin, I see an error on the task bar at the bottom: SLD_Collector_Task
When I open this item, I see the following error message:
"2008.12.10@10:51:20: HTTP call failed: Failed to send HTTP data: 503 : Service Unavailable. Please check if the target SLD system is available and the SLD bridge is started there"
Is this something related to SLD configuration.
    Thanks
    Srinivas

i am trying to download video that i purchased from itunes, but everytime i want to resume the process after pausing it, it automatically start the whole downloading process again, how can i eliminate this problem?

They don't normally appear in the download screen ... until I attempt to download another movie. Then they just start appearing. If you click edit - a normal movie download has a circle that appears on the left hand side that allows you to select and delete ... these movies don't have that option so you need to find the movie in you list (under movies) and select the download cloud symbol again to stop it downloading ...you may need to do this a number of times before it stops for a while ... or until you try to download a movie then it starts all over again.
i have logged out of my itunes account. restarted the iPad, removed all movies, restarted the iPad, logged back into my iTunes account and restarted my iPad .... but as soon as I tried to download a single movies ... the other movies started appearing in the downloads again.

Hi minutemantechs - welcome to the forum!
This is not a limitation imposed by iMovie. Check your external drive's format - it must be Mac OS Extended. Yours is probably formatted for PCs. Note that re-formatting will clear everything stored on the drive. re-format via Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.

  • OC4J containers sometimes don't stop/start?

Occasionally when I do opmnctl stopall or startall, an OC4J container will fail to start or stop. Sometimes I get the "forcibly shutting down..." message from opmnctl. Sometimes it just sits there. Sometimes it shuts down but a 'ps -ef | grep oracle' shows some hanging processes.
Likewise sometimes on startup a component just won't start. It'll 'init' for a while, then drop back down to status = 'NONE'. But, I can go into OEM ASC and start it up there and it'll start right up!
This is not consistent at all. This is 9.0.4 (10g).
Any ideas? Anyone experience this sort of weirdness? So far it's not terribly confidence-inspiring.

Depending on the environment, it may be necessary
to modify the start, stop, and/or restart timeouts
for components, as configured in $OH/opmn/conf/opmn.xml
These elements, if not specified in opmn.xml for
a component default to the following:
    start: 120 seconds
    stop: 60 seconds
    restart: 180 seconds
The opmnctl startall/stopall commands result in the
simultaneous start/stop of all configured components.
If the machine is sufficiently powerful, this will
result in all components completing the state
transistion faster than if the components were
    started/stopped serially. Component initialization
and shutdown can be resource intensive. Contention
between components starting/stopping at the same time
can lead to longer stop/start times compared to the
time it takes to start/stop a component by itself.
The different in behavior between OEM and opmnctl
might be explained if a smaller set of components
is being started/stopped by the OEM operation than
the opmnctl operation. Another possibility is that
the OEM operation is resulting in multiple, serial
requests to start individual components instead of
    starting everything in parallel.
How might this be investigated? $OH/opmn/logs/ipm.log
now prints with timestamp command begin/end and info
about the processes started/stopped as part of the
command. You can see something like this:
20:00:00 Request 4 Started. Command: start
    20:00:00 Starting Process: OC4J~home~default_is...
    20:00:00 Starting Process: HTTP_Server~HTTP_Ser...
    20:00:11 Process Alive: HTTP_Server~HTTP_Server...
    20:00:32 Process Alive: OC4J~home~default_islan...
20:00:32 Request 4 Completed. Command: start
This example shows a start command that resulted
in the simultaneous start of HTTP_Server and an
    OC4J. HTTP_Server took 11 seconds to start,
OC4J took 32 seconds to start.
Compare the ipm.log output generated from the opmnctl
and OEM operations. opmnctl and OEM use the same
protocols to interact with opmn to perform process
    control requests.
My guess is that the opmnctl operation is doing more
work in parallel and is overloading CPU resulting
in longer delays. I would be interested in seeing
ipm.log output (at default log level) from the
startall/stopall operation and a brief machine
    description.

  • Failed to start e-TEST agent: error starting agent: \ne-TEST process ...

    Hi,
wihout changing the version or so we suddenly we experience the following error at status page (although the monitored web-page is fine):
Current alert: Failed to start e-TEST agent: error starting agent: \ne-TEST process has not established socket in 30 seconds.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi emposadi,
It looks like the e-Load server is having trouble communicating with the agent. Are you running the load test using an agent on the same machine or remote machine? You might want to see if a process has grabbed a port that the server communicates with the agent on. I would reboot the machines in question, shut down the Empirix Application Server and verify that ports 1099 and 9001 are not in use. Those are the ports that e-Load uses to communicate with the agent.
