Ghost Buttons

Why is it that even after buttons disappear on a slide, they area in which they were present makes a clicking noise if clicked, and no other buttons will work if placed in the same location later in the timeline? Can this problem be resolved?

you're right, i overlooked those two items in the page items section!
However if you open the items grid editor page, they do not show up in there.
The same happens for the buttons grid editor page, page item buttons are not included.
So, i need to correct my initial statement, they do show up somewhere actually.
But in the end i don't see why, if they are still recognized as buttons, they do not appear in the buttons list.

How to get rid of a ghost button?

I'm using JDeveloper 11g for developing ADF Applications. During my work I encountered a very annyoing problem. In one of my jspx sites I added a button for testing reasons. After deleting it and redeploying the application on the internal wls it is still there. Whatever I do cleaning the build, deleting all the classes directories in the project directory, restarting Jdeveloper, rebuilding and redeploying the project, deleting the project files in the directories of the internal wls, the button still remains in the jspx. For some strange reason JDeveloper is not updating the jspx, where the button is placed, when I'm redeploying my project.
The last time I have been facing this situation, I had to reinstalled JDeveloper to get rid of a component which was not in my project any longer. However this is not an acceptable solution.
Does anybody know which caches I have to clear, to get rid of my "ghost" button!

Thank you for your reply. The problem is not occouring on a exertnal WLS but on my local JDeveloper internal WLS. I alreay used build clear all option and recompiled the project. However these measures were not successful. So I'm pretty sure that my internal wls cached the file! But I do not know how to clear the cache. Can you give me a hint how to do this.

Ghost images of buttons after background edit

After modifying the background of a demo, I still get an image of the buttons in their original location. Here's what I did:
I recorded a demo of a website, where one of the steps is to click on a button. After recording the demo, I changed all of the backgrounds; specifically, I moved the background image (and all of the animations/controls) up about 20px. Everything *works* fine, except when it gets to the part on the slide where you click the button, a horizontal strip of the background in its old position appears. It's the same height as the button, and appears where the button used to be. I moved the button object, but to no avail. I've looked at all of the layers of the slide and it doesn't appear to be in any of the layers.
What I THINK is happening is when you click a button, Captivate records that little animation (the depression of the button). But rather than recording the whole screen, it just records a horizontal strip as tall as the button is to optimize the size. However, I can't find that animation anywhere in the project. Any ideas?
(I found a work around of pasting the background as an image and making it the bottom layer which hides the ghost button, but can't figure out why that works)

MovieClips in buttons

Hey,
It's been a while since I used Flash and I'm having a
problem with buttons that animate in their various hit stages.
I've defined a movie clip for each of the three states (Up,
Over and Down) with the intention of making each clip play
once whenever the button enters that state, so far so good.
Unfortunately though the hit state movie clip only seems to
play while the mouse button is held down, where as I'm sure
in prior versions of Flash this wasn't the case (it used to
play once through the hit state animation then return back to
the Up/Over state.)
I've also tried giving the movie clip within the hit state a
name and using an on(release) handler on the button itself
to play it, but no luck..
Is there any way of making it revert back to this old
behaviour, or do I need to create a single movie clip that does
all the work of managing the various states with a ghost
button overlaid to catch user input?
The desired output of this is to create a button that glows
when the mouse rolls over it, then explodes and re-forms
when clicked (in case there's a more efficient way of
accomplishing this.)

Button functions bleeding into other pages?

Let me illustrate. I have a three page article set to Horizontal Scroll. Green squares indicate button position on page's one and two. Error I'm getting is that although page one only has a single button, if I tap in the area where the circled buttons on page two exsist it envokes page twos MSO. Even though I'm on page one and there isn't any button there?!? Oh and page three. It's fine problem does not occur?

OK I've got a new zip file, stripped all the assets out to get file size down and tested it. Forgot to switch new article ti Horizontal Scroll so test came out in vertical. Tested the ghost buttons anyway and they did nothing! Updated the properties to horizontal and bingo. Ghost buttons invoke the unwanted MSO. I have no where to post but zip file is 678k. Any clues where to put it? Regards

30 GB Video iPod

okay, today my software updater launched and prompted me to download and install the update to iTunes and to iPod updater and so i did that. later in the day, i went to charge and update the podcasts on my iPod for a trip i was going to take. i was prompted to restore to factory settings! the update button (to update the iPod updater software for my iPod that i had installed on my powerbook G4 earlier in the day) was like a ghost button and i could not click it on.
the dialog box listed the name of my ipod, the serial number, the GB memory, the GB used and the GB available and next to "format" it says: windows! we don't even have a windows computer. when i bought the iPod, i formatted it for mac since that is all we have. i had to send it in for a repair and evidently when they worked on it they restored it to factory settings. unfortunately, i did not realize that until today.
when i went to use it on my laptop for the first time after it was returned to me all i needed to do was set up the playlists, etc., that were in my library to update on my iPod. it never asked me about mac vs. windows like when it was brand new so i never realized it had been reformatted.
so, basically, according to Apple, i can leave it like it is and not install the update, or restore it to factory settings and reformat it to Mac OS X only and then install the iPod updated update. of course, then i would need to once more restore all my playlists, photos, preferences, etc. to the iPod. i guess my question is this, is that all worth it? it works just fine right now. are there really any huge and beneficial things that come with the new iPod updater update that rolled out this week or is it very benign? thanks in advance for any advice!

only thing is, i can't "update" with the iPod updater unless i format my iPod for Mac OS X. right now it is formatted for windows. how it works for my powerbook G4 is a mystery to me, i thought it could only do that if formatted for Mac. but as i said, when i sent the iPod in for repair the Apple tech said that the repair folks at Apple (or whomever they outsource repair work to) must have reformatted it for windows. so i have a windows iPod working on a Mac OS X powerbook and unless i reformat it i can't install any iPod updater updates. very frustrating.

Opening prefs in CS4 causes strange UI glitch

If I open preferences, I get a 'ghosted' version of the close, minimize, and
maximize buttons in the top right corner. The 'ghosted' version is on top
and takes focus, the 'real' version doen't work.
I don't have to do anything in preferences, just open and close it.

Besides the ghost buttons at the top-right, I occasionally see a line running through the top toolbar too. I see this problem on two completely different PC hardware setups, with and without OpenGL support switched on. One is a self-built Core2 Duo with an nVidia card, the other is a Lenovo Thinkpad with integrated Intel graphics. Both are running XP Pro SP3. I tried trashing Ps prefs and updating video drivers. It seems to be a bug in Photoshop. There's a lot of common software between the computers, but I'm not flattening one just to troubleshoot a graphics problem in CS4. I'm surprised I haven't read about this bug more widely.

Downgrading from yosemite to Mountain lion

I have Yosemite installed on my Mac Pro. I purchased a copy of Pro Tools 10. When I try to install PT10, it says "Mac OSX 10.6.7 and above required to install," I hit INSTALL, but it won't let me install, and tells me an error occurred.
Since Yosemite is OSX 10.10.2, higher than 10.6.7, I'm assuming Yosemite is the problem. I have another drive that I can install PT10 on. So I guess I need to install at least OS X 10.6.7 on that drive, boot up on that system drive, and it should then let me install PT10.
I'm trying to find the easiest way to get a copy of the OSX 10.6.7 installer. If I am a registered user of the latest Mac OSX, can I download an older OSX installer free from Apple? Or do I have to find my old install disk?

Well, I have PT8.5 LE and I upgraded my Mac Pro to Yosemite, and most of the plugin dialog windows are empty (3rd-party and built-n), just gray, or have ghost buttons that I have to click around the gray box to find settings. It was actually doing the gray box thing before Yosemite, maybe even before Mavericks. Can't remember what OS X update made it do that. I also like some of the features that I've seen on a friend's PT10 in his studio. So I'm updating to a point where everything works okay and I can enjoy new features. I found a PT10 used for real cheap on Amazon, so I'm trying to upgrade without shelling out $680.
I found my old OSX 10.6 disc and have successfully installed PT10 on a second drive that has 10.6.8 on it now. The PT10 disks did not come with any serial or activation code. I set up an iLok account and sent Avid a request for info on how to register and make it mine, and have everything legit. Don't know what is involved. Hopefully I can work it out. My PT8 just needed activation code. I use a digi002 as interface. I hope there is no problem. If there is, I'll just reinstall PT8.5 on the 10.6.8 drive and at least have dialog boxes that show the buttons! Lol!
Why do you ask about needing PT10? Is that not a good version?

My ipod nano 6th gen screen is broken

i have a 6th gen nao and thers no warranty anymore. the screen is just black it doesnt light up but i can still touch the screen and use it but its like touching ghost buttons. it connects to itunes and restores fine but my screen is just like this. wouldnt the touch not work if the screen didnt work? im so confused

Why are the images not printing from InCopy? Why is the relink button in Links panel ghosted?

I am having a problem with printing from Incopy. All stories are editable and that is working just fine. I am able to view the images although AD has set the graphics to not be editable yet I can still see them of course.
My problem is upon wanting to print the layout. Getting a message that the image links are missing. I have not moved the original folders (they are all set up on the same level in one main folder). I am working remotely, layout based workflow via dropbox.
My client would like to have the option to print layouts also initially. How can I relink the images if the "relink" button is ghosted. Can somebody help me please? I have tried doing a restart… Any ideas?

I went to "view" then "toolbars" and de-selected "yahoo toolbar" and then moved the curser over my firefox page and it now works completely including the problem area (the top 3 cm of each screen). Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. You have no idea how good I feel know on this otherwise cold, windy and rainy day.

Button Ghosts when played in a DVD Player

Hi,
I'm new to video and finally have a movie I'm satisfied with. I'm using the brushstroke theme for the dvd and it looks good too, especially when burned and played on my Mac. However, when I play the dvd on my tv or on my wife's PC, the selected menu button has a ghost, to the left when the button is on the left of the screen and to the right when the button is on the right. Looks pretty bad, especially when the button is text.

Stroke alignment buttons ghosted out seemingly randomly

This has to be something many of you face - I've noticed it in Illustrator for many versions - you go to use the 3 stroke alignment buttons on the Stroke panel: inside, center and outside, but they're ghosted out.
When this happens only one isn't ghosted - the one currently in use.
The objects I'm dealing with are basic, native Illustrator rectangles, circles, etc. Text objects have stroke limitations but I'm not referring to that.
Usually a little messing around - clicking off the objects onto something else then back on, etc will solve it.
Anyone know?

I've resolved my problem now. It wasn't iphoto: preferences:@ that I needed but iphoto:preferences:general where there is the option to choose email for sending photos. Can't believe I missed that before.

Does this mean your photos are now in the library? If not then downloaded to where?
Make a duplicate copy of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file,, Cache.dbt, that is located in your Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences..
