Ghost Documents/ CS3 Help please
I have OSX 10.4.11. I found that when using a flash drive, my computer makes a copy of everything i put on it. I can't see the other copy so even when I delete everything on the flash drive, it only is half empty. The only way I can get rid of these other copied files is to "show hidden files" when I plug the flash drive into Windows. Anyone know how to fix that?
With that noted, I had the Beta relaese of CS3 and I wanted to get the official trial version because the Beta was messing up. I deleted everything I could find that had to do with the Beta but still kept getting a message when I tried to install the new version saying, "Adobe Photoshop could not install becasue of a conflit with Adobe Photoshop." I tried a couple of times and this was all that kept happening. Is there a hidden back up of Photoshop Beta that I can't see or get rid of which the trial version is having problems with?
Any help would be great.

In terms of Photoshop, check your install disk to see whether there is an uninstaller. If not, try AppDelete. Dragging items to the Trash only removes the files you can see. However, the installer is seeing files embedded elsewhere in the system. Using the utility linked above or the uninstaller that came with the application, if any, will remove every trace.
In terms of your flash drive, when you are done moving your files you can delete everything on the flash drive by going to Disk Utility and erasing the drive. The system creates the hidden files for it's own use.

Can't import xml file: "need translation document/template" - - help please
Hi there,
Someone edited a project with fcp 5.1. I have fcp 5.0. I've been asked to tweak the project (for no charge, which is fine with me; it's for a tiny 3rd-world charity organization).
He sent me the project files as xml documents... but when I double click on them I get a window saying they "need translation document file", or translation template. Nothing in my fcp folder or app seems to do the trick.
Can someone please advise me on this?
I did a search before posting, and noticed that someone advised someone else that xml version 2 is the better xml file to work with. I don't know whether the xml files this guy sent me are v. 1 or 2.
Any help would be very much appreciated!

IF it doesn't work... should I upgrade to FCStudio2, do you think? I didn't want to have to do that (I'm not being paid for this work, so I don't really want to go out of pocket), but if this XML2 thing doesnt' work, I'm not going to be able to do this project at all, it would seem. Which I would feel badly about.
The other thing is, I've been sort of thinking that some day I'm going to have to get FCStudio2, so maybe I should just push that day up a bit.
It would really bother me, though, if I go to the expense of getting FCStudio2, and then I still can't open these files.

Hi guys...
I just bough a new Mac book pro and I copied my documents from the old one (2007 model) , the operation was easy and apparently flawless, but now that I'm trying to open my pages documents I get the message that I posted in the title, you can see it in the following image (But is in spanish)
Any help will be very appreciated, I installed iWorks from the original CD and apparently everything went smooth but Pages is not working at all. I deleted it, and installed back but nothing changed.

Thanks for your quick reply, here are my answers to your questions.
My version is Pages '08 Version 3.0 and I used the same disks for both computers (the old one got all info deleted, so there is no chance of having more computers running iWork than the allowed by the license) so there is no chance of having different versions installed.
And yes, the documents have a .pages extension.
To transfer the file, that was via USB cable, but anyway, I had most of my documents on an external hard drive. I tried already to open both, the one tha originally was transfered to my computer, and since that didn't work out, I tried with the back-up and the result was the same.
Any ideas?

First try reducing the Maximum RAM Cache size to 90% or lower. (The default is 60%.) It's a bad idea to let AE, or any app, max out the RAM.
You can try increasing the Maximum Memory Usage, though values over 200% aren't useful.
For both of those memory values, increment in small values, 10-20% at a time. Don't ask AE to use more RAM than necessary; bad things like fragmentation and swapping start to occur.
Also, try the options under the Edit > Purge menu when you see this type of problem. You'll lose your existing RAM previews, but it will free up memory, which may indeed be fragmented. -
I have been told by an Adobe tech support agent that I can use Encore to provide a solution to the problem I have re getting the flash animation on my website to "Play Once" and NOT LOOP. I also need it to display the last frame as a still image if this can be done in any program known to mankind. It appears that this task may be to "simple" for such a capable program as Encore. Noe of the ceap little flash editors had any idea how to do this either. Can anyone tel me how this can be done? I have had no luck with Encore so far. Any help is appreciated. Thanks - ssea
I don't understand why you can't get this to work using Flash. Have you asked in the Flash forum?
CS3 is very limited on what you can do to customize player controls. So that's a big trade off.
Yes, you can have a first play that is the animation, then have it come to a "menu" that would be a still image, no DVD style menu buttons - but you'd still see the player controls.
Also, the animation would have to be DVD spec (i.e. TV pixel size). I'm not sure what effect you would get if you use html to reduce the playback size.
Anyway, I vote for Flash unless there is something I am missing. -
I tried to update my pages app on my IPad and it will not download. It states waiting to install. Last update 9-12-2012 and the update did not complete. I have not been able to use app since then. This app was purchased so if I delete and reinstall will I have to pay again?

I made a dumb decision to 'Erase Free Space' on my drive. I now have no free space, I realize because it wrote 0's over all my free space. Is there a way to undo this??? It's more likely a failed Erase Free Space, which creates a huge temporary file; that's why it looks like you have no more available drive space. You can recover from this. See these links

After hours of back-up, downloading and uploading...I am now updated with all the latest Mac software. However, I no longer have access to Excel and Word. Is there a way I can access my documents in either of those? Help, please.
If you have older versions of excel and word that previously ran under the Rosetta emulator (allows PowerPC code to run on Intel system), they will no longer work with Lion.
You can use the Apple programs Pages and Numbers to access the files. They can be bought and downloaded from the App store. NeoOffice is available at http://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php which has Lion support. OpenOffice doesn't talk to Lion support, it's at http://www.openoffice.org/ -
I updated my pages app on my ipad and when I tried to open a document it says the file format is invalid. None of my documents are opening pleaser help!!!!
Try this. It worked for me.
I discovered the same problem. I had an older version of Pages on my iPad. After updating it to the latest version all my previous documents created in pages for the iPad were rendered unreadable and a message stated that they were an invalid format. Why for the life of me would a program that was created by Apple and sense updated not be able to read previous versions...well that's a whole other sad story. Any way I discovered how to fix it but it would require that you had backup your iPad on a computer and not emptied your trash. If this sounds good than here is how you fix it... And it worked for me.
These steps will enable you to reinstall a previous version of the Pages app so you can be able to read and edit older documents.
FIRST: if you did backup your iPad using your computer and did not empty your trash, GOTO the trash and look for PAGES 1.4 (or other number) ipa ( that's the file extension) ie PAGES 1.4 ipa.
SECOND: move that file out of the trash and onto your desktop. Once you do this, double click on it and a box will come up stating a newer version has been found and do you want to revert back to older version. ANSWER YES. It will than automatically place and overwrite the older version back into the file on iTunes that contains the rest of your backed up apps.
THIRD: and this is where it is important that your backup would have to have been on your computer. I'm not sure if backup on the cloud will work. iCloud backup at your own risk And here's why. Before you restore you will need to remove the latest version of Pages off your iPad by doing the usual : holding down the home button until the apps wiggle and remove by pressing on X on app. Removing off your iPad will also delete all your documents but if you have a previous backup on your computer those documents will be stored safely on itunes and will return.
FORTH: plug your iPad into your computer and allow it to sync so iTunes will recognize it. Once iTunes is up and you can see that it recognizes your iPad, GOTO "FILE/DEVICES/RESTORE FROM BACKUP." ******* DO NOT CLICK ON BACKUP***** click on RESTORE FROM BACKUP. This will reinstall all previous settings and documents that were their when you backuped PLUS the older version of Pages that you placed back from the above steps. Let it run through all the setups ( this could take up to 20 minutes...depending on amount of data and photos and apps).
FIFTH: Once everything is reinstalled a message will popup on your computer stating "to leave iPad plugged in until iTunes recognizes it again" ( it's basically rebooting itself). Once done (leave iPad plugged in still) GOTO iPad and follow the steps. IMPORTANT: iPad will ask you if you want to SET IT UP AS A NEW IPAD, BACK UP FROM THE CLOUD or BACK UP FROM ITUNES.....press SET UP AS NEW IPAD. Follow all of the steps required. Once complete GOTO iTunes on computer, look for "IPAD" plus a little arrow ( should be on upper right corner of iTunes window, click on it ( this will safely disconnect your iPad from iTunes) . Now unplug iPad from computer and go to your iPad and look for the older version of Pages. It should be there along with all your old documents ( readable and editable too).

hii, on my iphone 4s, i tried upgrading my OS and i was asked if i needed back up and i said yes, after upgrading i couldnt find any of my files, document, pictures, music and all. please i need help please.

usually when you upgrade, it should not delete your files, but if it happens, than you should have a backup.
Unfortunately it is very common, that people don't know, what exactly is in the backup.
The question is, what files exactly you are missing? Own pictures, or taken with the device? Purchased music form the iTunes Store, or own? ....
Documents and files are mostly up to the developer of the app, if they are part of the backup, usually not and you need to transfer them before.
In the backup you will find just pictures from the Camera Rolle folder, everything else you should have on the PC, if you had it on the device.
Same then for music, you can transfer purchased music from the device, but your own works just one direction, from PC to device, from device to PC it doesn't work.
In future I recomand you to be sure how the backup works or use a 3rd party app (iExplorer) where you have a little bit more "freedome" than with iTunes.
Or you maybe just restored from the worng backup
