Ghost files on Apple TV

I podcast the NBC & CBS Evening news and there are some old files that still appear on my Apple TV list even though they have been deleted from the iTunes library.  I checked the actual iTunes library folders and cannot find were these files are located to get rid of them.  I've also reset the Apple TV.  Any suggestiongs?  Thanks

I still have the folders because I still subscribe to the podcasts.  The only thing showing in the folders was the current episodes.  I deleted the folders and now the iTunes smart list still shows 4 files that it can't locate.  When I try to open when of the files I get a dialog box:
Clicking on the Locate button gets me:
I still can't find these files.

  • HELP! Ghost files and empty Applications directory

Just to set the stage of the issue, here's a what little background I have....
Im a long-time MacOSX user, and requested a Mac when starting my new job.  I started today and was given a hand-me-down Aluminum 27" iMac, running 10.6.8.  After some minor cleanup of someones old documents I started working, soon I stumbled into the "Home" directory and found the directory like this screen cap...
    http://i951.photobucket.com/albums/ad355/KeyMedia/fileissues.jpg
Greyed out, ghosted files!?  From my first impression, it look like something I could just hopefully trash and move along, but it wasn't.  The "Move to Trash" progress bar/dialog box, got stuck.  I then went into "Force Quit" and re-launched the Finder.  After seeing that the files didn't make it to the trash, I tried it again with the same results.  THEN, I started digging around the home folder directories, and discovered that only 2 of the many applications that were already installed, populated in the "Applications" folder within the home directory!?  I had previously launched several apps before hand from the "stacks" folder that was already in the dock, as well as selecting the Applications shortcut in the sidebar of the finder, which populated all the apps!?  Seemed very strange and something I have never run across.  And just FYI, there is only one user account on the iMac.
A couple more qwirky things that happened through the course of the workday, was when trying to save to the "Desktop", made those files (.PDF & .RTF) invisible.  When I say invisible, I could not find those files anywhere on my system visually, but when going back into text-edit and doing a "Save-As" back to the desktop, the were visible on the Desktop, but only in the Save Dialog Box?!  After that finding I rebooted my Mac and after reboot, The files automatically appreared on the desktop, and didn't have that problem anymore today.
One more little thing....After the final reboot, a "ds.store" file appeared on my desktop?!  I haven't trashed that file, which it probably will not let me.  If im halfway correct, the "ds.store" files are normally placed within folders and directories to keep the MacOS file structure in place, and possiblly if deleted that it will get regenerated upon reboot, but again never tried to move this particular file fromt he desktop.
Looks to me like some preferences, or ds.store files got out of place and the file structure for the OS is out of place and isn't staying clean, but that is a big guess.
If anyone has any insight into these issues, what me be causing it, or what can fix it...I would greatly appreciate it!!
Thanks in Advance my fellow mac users!!

    1. Open the Script Editor or AppleScript Editor in one of the subfolders of Applications and run the following:
    tell application "Finder" to quit
if (do shell script "defaults read com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles") is "1" then
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 0"
    else
do shell script "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles 1"
    end if
    delay 2
    tell application "Finder" to run
    2. Most of your applications are in the Applications folder at the top level of the drive, not the one in the home folder.

  • Sync error "erased" songs, now ghost files have me over capacity

Last night when I tried to a routine sync to iTunes using my iPhone (4S), I got the dreaded neverending "Applying changes" error during the sync. This happened a few times in a row. Some help forum advice suggested unchecking the "Sync Songs" box to fix the problem, and that did work, but now there is no music showing as available on my phone (ie, the phone doesn't seem to "see" any music files). iTunes still "thinks" they are there, though, because now when I try to resync including the music it tells me the memory is over capacity, even though my iPhone is functionally empty of music. It seems it didn't recalculate the available disc space after the sync errors.
SO, how do I either delete what may be "ghost" music files on my iPhone, or alternatively how do I make iTunes recognize that there is more space on the device than it is currently "seeing"?

    Hello aubiefan12
If turning off Sync Music and syncing did not remove the files as well as restoring from a back up. Then the only other option is to restore your iPhone and set it up as new and not rely on your back up as it may be corrupted and causing the issue. Alternatively you can back up using iCloud and use that back up to put back on after you have restored. Restoring from an iCloud back up does differ from an iTunes back up and may not bring back any ghost files.

  • Quicktime movie - publishes a ghost file, placing on the page

    I have two questions.
    First - the ghost file
I dragged a Quicktime movie file to a page and then published to a folder. I realised that I had attached a 27Mb file instead of a smaller file (750k) that I had meant to. I deleted the large file (select/delete) and dragged the new file on to the page and published to a new folder. However the large file keeps publishing even though I thought I had deleted it. I always end up with the large file and small file in the published folder. How can I stop this happening?
Secondly - placing on a page
The QT movie has an area above the control bar for a graphic which I didn't fill. How can I accurately place the QT file on the page so I can line it up with text - the graphic box seems to stop text flowing around it or placing it where I want it.
    Thanks

I suspect your ISP is serving you an older "cached" file instead of the new "fresh" one. More common overseas than here in the U.S. and some ISP's are worse than others.
Try "refreshing" the page (Command-R in your browser) to see if it now finds the new page.
If that fails (and it may because these ISP's are so aggressive about caching) try adding a question mark (?) to the end of the address in your browser:
    apple.com becomes apple.com?

  • I have an ipod touch 4th gen. Can anybody help with ghost files?

Here is my problem:  I added an equalizer program called "Louder Logic", It worked great until I needed to delete most of my Loaded CD's, to create space.  I made the mistake of deleting the Louder Logic CD file first,  which created these Ghost  Files in the Apple CD file.  The files appear, but are not bolded, and cannot be played. I tried deleting all music files and reseting the ipod, but the ghost files are still in the apple program.  I would appreciate  some help if anyone else made this same mistake.

    Restore your iPod completely....

  • ICloud Photos 'Ghost Files'

I have just started using iCloud Photo Library recently.  It took a whole night to upload the entire library into iCloud, but then I found out that there 5670 photos and 92 videos in iCloud (5762 total), whereas in fact I have only 5636 photos and 92 videos (5738 total) in my iPhone.  I went to icloud.com and Photos section also shows 5738 photos and videos, which is in line with my iPhone.  I went to my Mac and check the storage of iCloud from System Preferences and it says 5762 photos and videos total, which is the wrong number.  I believe there are 24 'ghost files' in iCloud that I really want to delete, but I don't know how to do so.  Anyone can help me?

I then went into Finder and deleted the original copies in my Documents folder on my local hard drive.
    NO !!!
I work away from home a lot and had planned to access my files through iCloud drive. It is impossible to rely on it,
Cloud = Your stuff on someone else's hard drive.    ANY data that is remotely important to you should be backed up in multiple locations, (the cloud can be one of those locations assuming you are not too worried about your files being compromised.)
    >>  My question is - have I done something wrong or is this an inherent fault with iCloud drive?  <<
Any cloud system is subject to data loss or a complete malfunction. Apple's system is probably more reliable than others but still can fail.

  • Accessing a Windows Server: Mac leaves ghost files...

I am working off a windows network to access my files, etc. MAC leaves tons of "ghost" files (trashes, ghost files of files i've moved or saved) and it's peeving my co-workers off. I am the ONLY one who works on a mac, so the more i work, the more "extra" files my co-workers see on the windows directories.
Is there ANY way i can prevent MAC from doing this?? Or will they just have to put up with it?
Please help.. expert advice needed here..
    Darrin

    Hi,
If your co-workers cannot ignore the files (which are necessary for MOSX) read (AND understand before you change anything on your Mac)
    this Apple Support Document
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301711
    A little background info:
    - .DS_Store files contains infos about file presentation and file placement
    - .Trash are Network trash folders that can be safely ignored
    - Most dangerous is editing/removing/messing around with resource forks. Apple files consist of two files at disk = one containing the data fork = one containing the resource fork.
Depending on the age and file saving structure of the applications you are using (newer apps do no longer rely on resource forks, PDFs are without resource forks, Xpress files are WITH resource forks) you may no longer be able to open a file once data and resource fork are split.
So the advice is: Teach others that they should NEVER mess with i.e. "._finishedlogo.psd" if there is a file named "finishedlogo.psd". The Windows people have to open the finishedlogo.psd file and leave the other one where it is. If you move or delete the file, then the ._ part will be moved or deleted to. (And just in case you are wondering: the ._ part is the resource fork).
I suggest hosting the files on a Mac or using a decent file serving software on the Windows side...
    Cheers,
    Walter

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello Blisshous,
It sounds like you have a user account named Ghost, that you want to delete all content from and remove from the computer. This article will help you do that named:
OS X Lion: Delete a user account
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3867
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Users & Groups or click Parental Controls.
Click the lock icon to unlock it, and then type an administrator name and password.
Select the user account you want to delete, and then click Delete below the account list.
    Do one of the following:
Select “Save the home folder in a disk image” to save the folder as a disk image in /Users/Deleted Users/.
Select “Don’t change the home folder” to leave the home folder in /Users/.
Select “Delete the home folder” to remove it from the computer. If you want to prevent programs that read raw data from retrieving any files, select “Erase home folder securely.”
    Click OK.
Keep in mind, if you remove the user and delete the data, without Time Machine you will not be able to restore any data from it in the future.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,

  • "Only files in Apple Loops format will be shown in the loop browser".

I recorded a Drum loop from my Korg m50 workstation into logic pro 9.
After recording i tried to import that loop into Apples loop library. After doing so i get this message.."Only files in Apple Loops format will be shown in the loop browser."
    What do i do?
    Please help.
    Thanks
    Rohan

I've recently gotten this error when I try to drag an audio file into the loops library (to create an apple loop.)
    Comes along with Result Code=-43.
I'm trying to quantize some rhythmic loops using flex, then turn them into apple loops for the library.
    My process:
    Take original audio.
    Flex it using slice mode.
    Bounce in place.
Drag new region into Loops browser.
    Errors ensue.

System files are hidden by default in Finder now, search for what you want then click the little + button on the top right of the bar that appears when you do a search. A new bar comes up and click the first box (that says "Kind"), change it to "System Files". Then change the box that says "aren't included" to "are included" and your file should show up.

  • Keep getting message pop up "Error reading/writing file  "com.apple.logic.pro.cs": Logical end-of-file reached during read operation," and "The Preferences are not loaded completely. Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?" Using Logic pro 8. ???

Logic froze while I was working on something so I forced quit.  Now every time I open LOGIC a message pops up that says:
    "Error reading/writing file
    “com.apple.logic.pro.cs”:
Logical end-of-file reached during read operation."
The only button option is cancel so I press it and another message appears that says:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
Do not save them, as you would overwrite the Preferences file with incomplete data."
Then when i close logic a box appears saying:
"The Preferences are not loaded completely.
    Save them to "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" anyway?"
There are 3 button options to press; ok, cancel or dont save.
I press "don’t save" cuz I don't want to ruin anything.
I found a discussion located here: https://discussions.apple.com/message/9564253#9564253 that says if I delete the file "com.apple.logic.pro.cs" it will resolve the problem.  If I do this will I loose or mess anything up at all, automation, saved channel strips customizations, saved effects, synth, or ultrabeat customizations etc? Or especially will I loose any work I've done?  I have hundreds pieces of music files I've created.  I'm scared to mess anything up with all the hours and months of work I've done.  Is there anyway to fix this without loosing anything?  I'm using Logic Pro 8.
    Thank you

You can safely delete this file - its the preference file for control surface settings - you haven't said whether you're actually using a control surface or not, if so, you will have to set it up again. A new file will be created when you fire Logic up again, but of course it will contain default settings. If you have a complicated control surface setup, remember to keep a backup copy somewhere in case any future problems arise.
Other than that, you really have nothing to be scared about - hopefully your problem is as simple as that and there isn't an underlying problem (a corrupt hard drive, for example). You seem concerned about losing work, so I guess you want to think about backing that up on a regular basis too. If you're saving your projects to your system drive, do get an external one for this. And also check that you have plent of free space on your system drive - you need to keep about a quarter or third of it free for your OS and programs to run properly (some temporarily stored files can be quite large).

  • "Ghost files" when exporting to CD for PC or DVD player

I'm exporting my photos from iPhoto and then burn them to a CD (for friends that are using PC or want to watch them on their DVD player) ghost files appears like duplicates. So if I burn 100 images it will be 200 when opening on a PC or on a DVD player.
I tried it on my Xbox360 and the same thing appears.
Is there some way to get around this?

PB 12" G4 / Mac mini intel core duo   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

The "extra" file is probably an icon (resource fork file).
These resource files are only used by the Mac OS and can be removed from the image file prior to burning the PC CD.

  • A strange ghost file in Trash which can not be erased? Any help?

A strange doc in Trash -named  ¨ð?, ïÖó.l—s
    - resides in the trash bin
    -is alias
    -size zero Kb
-can not be moved opened or deleted
-no created or modified dates on display
in info   window tells me  that it's file with unknown access.
It doesn't cause any visible harm I just want to find out how this file appeared and how to get rid of it.
-when did search for invisible files
found it in Bootcamp>.Trashes>  501 which is a folder, empty.
(The Bootcamp partition is empty, I created it when purchased the laptop just in case I install Windows someday. When I open it there is just empty Desktop folder ,size  zero Kb)
Here it gets weird with this 501 folder - on the finder window  is displayed  that  it is  created on 27 April 2025 at 7.33pm.
Now is the year 2011,  so how a folder can be created in the year 2025???
It gets even funnier with the dates - when  I go right click>Get Info, on display I see that this folder is created Sat, 20 August 1983 10:12 AM (!!!!!!

I was getting that error when I used OSX's default compress feature. I found a little utility called ePub Zip and used it to compress (zip) my ePubs and that did the trick. They then passed the validation. I got it here:

  • Help me find ghost files after botched data transfer

I just bought a new MacBook. While setting up the OS upon first boot, I hooked up my old machine (which had a dead LCD, hence the new machine) for the data transfer. Well, after a solid hour+ of data transfer over firewire, there was an error, after which the old machine didn't seem to be a valid source of data transfer for the OS.
So I boot up the new machine and none of my files appear to have transferred. Ok, I can transfer important things by hand, so it's no problem. I boot the old machine holding down T and it appears as a mounted volume, from which I copy my files.
Here's the issue: that first, failed attempt to transfer files left "ghost" files somewhere eating up my HD space. Ie, if I sum up the size of all my files and folders in the / directory, they add up to around 60 Gb, which seems reasonable given all my music and such. But if I look at my main partition volume in Disk Utility, it claims I'm using a full on 179 Gb, which is totally unreasonable.
So there's around 120 Gb of "ghost" usage laying around. How do I track it down?

Log out and then into the newly created user account. To transfer them, choose Go to Folder from the FInder's Go menu, provide /Users/Shared/ as the path, and drag them there.
