Ghost image in InDesign CS5

I opened a file that was created in CS4 in InDesign CS5. I have been working on it for a few days. I am now on page 39 and I am encountering a very annoying and puzzling problem.
On that page, I had an image with a caption behing a text box that runs on the whole page. Wrapping for the image was set to wrap around.
Now in CS5, the text is OK but the image and caption are like ghosts - I cannot select them, delete them, edit them. They were on the same layer as the text, send to the back. When I make the layer invisible, the text, image and caption disappear so they are still on the same layer. I moved the tex box away and the image is there but untouchable. When I updated the image which I edited, the image updated but wrongly since I added some info on the bottom and now it is cut off. The image is still there unmovable!
How can I get this image to become accessible now or how can I delete it and start over?

In order to see the previous panel, the layer panel had to be opened and here is how it looks. There is no locked layer at all. The picture in on the top layer (green - labeled Text) When I hide the layer the text and photo disappear. So the photo is on the same layer as the text as I placed it. When I move the text out, the photo is there in the middle of the page but cannot be selected. The photo is not locked and was not locked earlier either. When I right click on the photo area, nothing happens because it cannot be selected. If it was locked, normally it still could be selected to unlock it. But it is not selectable. It is like a ghost but at the same time, since it was originally set to wrap around, when I move the text over it, it wraps around the box that I can otherwise not select.

I'd like to apply a guassian blur to an image in InDesign CS5.5, but I don't have acces to Photoshop or any other real graphics program on my employers Windows laptop.  Is there any feature in InDesign that would result in a guassian blur look?

  • How do I save image and text as a single image in InDesign CS5.0?

How do I save an image and text as one image in InDesign CS5.0? NOT 5.5.
I need to save the image as a 72-dpi, jpg file for ePub purposes. I designed a book and am handing it off to someone for ePub.
    This is what I've tried:
    1) Copied from InDesign, pasted into a PhotoShop doc as a Smart Object. Saved it as 72 dpi jpg, then imported back into ID.
    2) Took a screenshot of ID page, placed it in PS, saved as 72 dpi, imported into ID
    3) Saved page as a PDF from InDesign, then saved PDF as 72 dpi jpg, then imported into ID.
    4) Save page as a PDF from InDesign, placed into Photoshop and saved
as 72 dpi, then imported into ID.
    5) Saved as an EPS from InDesign, placed in PS, then imported back to ID.
In all cases, the type looks terrible. It doesn't seem to matter whether I copy or place into Photoshop, though placing is slightly better.
    HELP!!!

In all cases, the type looks terrible. It doesn't seem to matter whether I copy or place into Photoshop, though placing is slightly better.
Naturally what you did will result in rasterized text. Did you preview with high quality settings?
Are you sure the people who will handle that downstream need pixel images and do you have the exact pixel dimensions needed?
Why did you place the image back in Indesign, by the way?

    Hey!
This will remove all images from your InDesign document:
    var myLinks = app.activeDocument.links.everyItem().parent;
    for(var i = 0; i < myLinks.length; i++)
        myLinks[i].remove();
    Hope that helps.

  • Importing Microsoft Word document with images to InDesign CS5

    Hey,
I'm trying to import a MS Word document that contains inline images to InDesign CS5.
I tried File->Place with checking "Import Inline Graphics" but unfortunately it imports the document without the images, there are blank regions where the images are suppose to be.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Kathy

Yes, aligning image on its own paragraph works, I will skip wraping text inside paragraph, this can be done inside InDesign. Here is one part of Internet PDF books I am talking about, both are in Serbian http://issuu.com/bojan_zivkovic/docs/prikazivanje_slika_u_adobe_photoshop_elements - word + indesign, http://www.scribd.com/doc/49583823/Nau%C4%8Dite-Adobe-Photoshop   - indesign only
Basicaly I am writing tutorials then turn them into PDF books, for now.
Thank you, I never try to insert image on its own paragraph.

  • Image catalog Indesign CS5.5 - applescript

    Hi,
I am not sure if everyone has this problem, but for some reason script provided with Indesign to create images in document from specific folder location, does not work for me .
It creates frames but does not place any image with this error message:
    Error Number -1708
Error String: Adobe Indesign CS5.5 got an error:"Mac HD:Desktop:test:image01.tif" doesn't understand the place message.
I have an adjusted version that also crushes with this error after placing first image:
Can't get object reference of {image id 209 of rectangle id 206 of spread id 186 of document id 2 of application "Adobe InDesign CS5.5"}.
My script used to work in CS2 just fine.
Any help or potential solution would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you very much

I am having exactly the same problem.
Can you please show how you used the "alias" to solve the problem?
I will really appreciate it, since I used to use this script all the time in CS4 and all of a sudden it doesn't work.
    Thanks!

  • Colouring an image in Indesign CS5

Indesign CS5 How do I re colour an image. I have tried it as a .tif, .ai and .jpg but each time clicking with the direct seleciton tool but the fill box is greyed out and I cannot get it to change so that I can change the colour.
    Thanks

InDesign is a page layout program, not a graphics editor. Such stuff would be doen in Photoshop. The only kind of coloring you will get in ID are tints with colors or gradient maps.

  • Lagging when rolling over objects, text boxes, images in indesign CS5

I just installed CS5 suite onto my new upgraded machine. In InDesign, whenever I roll the cursor over and object, image, text box, there is about a 1-2 second lag in the cursor, almost like my system freezes as Indesign differentiates between the bounding boxes. My system is brand new and exceeds all system requiremnts for running CS5. Photoshop renders 3D lightning fast and I have encountered no other issues in any of the other Apps so far. Indesing itself runs fine until there are multiple frames on a page at which point just moving the pointer from one side of the screen to the other results in choppin movements and lag. Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Set your Live Screen Drawing preference to delayed. Does that help?

  • Placing an image in Indesign CS5- Previews are slow

I have a customer with identical intel MacPros, 10.5.8 OSX, 8GB RAM and running CS5.
Whenever they go to PLACE an image in either InDesign or Illustrator the preview window that comes up takes up to 65 seconds for a preview to appear in the window. These are images(TIFFs or EPS) that are over 200MB.
    What I've done so far:
Timed image preview when placing an image from server or off of desktop- No speed difference in showing the preview.
Took my MacBook Pro and tried to place the images- Immediate preview, no matter the size of the image. Desktop and over the network.
Started their MacPros up in target disk mode- Launched InDesign from their computer- No problem.
Started my MacBook Pro in target disk mode- Launched InDesign from my computer- Same speed issues with preview appearing when placing an image.
Replaced their current video cards with accelerated high end graphic cards. - No performance increase. When previewing a placed image, still very slow.
None of my other customers have this issue. Any clues????

There have been sporadic reports that changing the preference for live screen drawing to delayed from immediate has helped other issues such as this.
Try that first and let us know if it corrects the problem.

  • How can I import scanned images into InDesign CS5 using Mac10.6?

I want to be able to import scanned images. What file format must I save the data in?

    Greg Parks L.A. wrote:
For example, to print on a press you need images that are CMYK at 300 ppi, 100% scale. If you're just making office-quality documents or PDFs, you can use RGB images at a lower resolution.
You do not need images to be CMYK for print. InDesign can handle the conversion from RGB to CMYK when exporting to PDF. The old rule of thumb that images for print need to be 300 ppi is history. The ideal minimum resolution is halftone screen times the square root of 2 (1.41421356). But you can get away with a lower resolution for most images.

  • Resizing Images in InDesign CS5

    Hi,
I jumped from CS3 to CS5. In CS5, when I resize images they enlarge or decrease from the center and no longer resize from where my curser pulls from.  Is there a setting that I can change for the image to resize from my curser and not the middle of the image?
    Lindsey

I'm goint to presume you mean you are grabbing a sizing handle and dragging. Behavior has not changed. The point opposite the one you grab should remain fixed and all others should be moving in or out (if you're holding the shift key) depending on which direction you drag. In this case the proxy doesn't affect things. Are you seeing something different, or doing something different?

  • Problème pour importer des images dans Indesign CS5.5

    Bonjour,

    http://forumde.lalogotheque.com/index.php?showforum=4
    http://forum.macbidouille.com/index.php?showforum=5
    http://forums.macgeneration.com/arts-graphiques/
    http://forums.mediabox.fr/forum/84-mise-en-page-avec-indesign/
Quand tu essaies d'importer une image, le bloc dans lequel tu veux placer ton image est-il sélectionné ?
Je ne comprends pas la partie concernant les blocs de texte… De quel rond s'agit-il ?

  • Printing high quality rasterized text from Photoshop CS5.1 to InDesign CS5.5

I’m planning on using Photoshop CS5.1 to modify preexisting music notation fonts (MusiSync and StaffClefPitchesEasy) for my own purposes. With that said, in order to make my modifications I have to rasterize the font. Once I’ve completed my alterations I plan to then place my new images into InDesign CS5.5 at the same image/ canvas size as I had created them in Photoshop. My question is: At what ppi should I create my Photoshop documents and what file type should I ‘save as’ to place in InDesign, so that my end result using InDesign, when printed buy a professional printing house, will look crisp and clean with no jagged edges, blur or pixilation? Also, I am using a mac running 10.5.8 and my Photoshop and ID documents are in greyscale. Thanks for your help.

Most of the musical notation fonts I have had to deal with are pretty restrictive as regards modifying fonts. Check with the source of the fonts.
Fontlab is the best. For easy changes, TypeTool (same company) might be OK. Least expensive but works great is Type 3.2 from CR8.
TypeTool (and Fontlab) will allow a better workflow between Illustrator and it because it can read the Adobe clipboard and so:
Open a particular character in TypeTool
Use the pointer tool to drag around all the nodes
    Copy (ctrl+c)
    Paste into Illustrator
    Alter the character
    Copy character in Illustrator
Delete the old character in Type Tool
Paste the new character from Illustrator.
Position the new character if needed (usually is)
Generate the new OTF or TT
    Unload the present font
    Load the new font
Pretty much that's it (off the top of my head, anyway).
    Take care, Mike

  • Différence de couleurs - Photoshop CS5 à Indesign CS5

    Bonjour,

  • InDesign CS5 ePUBS Image Consistency across platforms

    Hello!
I have a question I've been asking myself for months, and finally made an account here for the Adobe Forums, which seems to be pretty much the only place with useful information about ePubs.
I work in a company that's planning on transferring over 70 print modules (between 80-150 pages each) to be available on iPad and Android tablets / phones.
InDesign CS5 helps a lot, especially with being able to choose Header 1s as Page Breaks.
But, I seem to be having some issues with a couple of things that's preventing us from publishing these documents to the Apple Store and Androind Market.
    1) Superscript / Subscript not appearing correctly on final product (Though this has been achieved by using Sigil to hack the CSS)
    2) Bullet alignment (The bullets are all aligned perfectly, just not along with the first line, creating a secondary weird indent bug that looks terrible)
The main issue is pictures. I am using PNG images.   A few months ago, the problem was solved - If I chose NOT to automatically format my images, they appeared perfect on the iPad/iPhone/Galaxy Phone and Galaxy Tab.
However, we took some time off this project, and now that I'm back on it, Aldiko has a new version, and it seems to break the images.  Now my images in Aldiko are displaying huge, and previously, you'd be able to hold a finger on an image and it would open up full screen to get a closer look, but all of that seems gone now, and I'll only get half of my image at best.
Checking off to automatically format the images results in terrible low quality images that are so small you can barely see them.
I've done some research and apparently Aldiko is one of the most used free e-readers for android, so I'd definitely like for our products to display fine on it.
Any suggestions? Anyone else that experiences similar problems?

Your question is rather an advanced one. I've observed that most of us who reply to ePUB questions here are still learning to make ePUBs.
I've been told by someone more knowledgeable about it than I that the link below to the MobileRead Forums would lead you to more experienced ePUB creators who may be more helpful:
