Ghost Images During Slideshow Transitions

I have just made a slideshow DVD for a friend with his holiday snaps of New Zealand. There were 592 photos and I used the Dissolve transition. When it plays, ghost images come up during the transition. They seem to be quite random images; screen shots of various things mainly. Sometimes the corner of an open folder, sometimes the main menu picture.
If I start over, the ghost images change but they still appear.
Can anyone help with this?
Mark.

In addition to the good advice posted above you also have other software options that specialize in slideshows:

These are but a few.

  • Audio Cuts Out During Slideshow Transitions

    Hi-
In my iDVD6 slideshow I have embedded audio. It cuts out during each transition. Do I have to not use transitions to keep that from happening?
Are there some transitions that don't make the audio cut out, or is it something else entirely? Thanks for any insights!

MacinTouch has a good discussion of this issue here:
    http://www.macintouch.com/readerreports/idvd/topic2244.html
Besides making the slide show in iMovie, one poster at MacinTouch said he had always had success with DVD playback if he created the slideshow in Photo to Movie:
    http://lqgraphics.com/software/phototomovie.php.
I just had this same problem with my very first iDVD. The problem does not appear to be with iDVD, but rather with DVD players that do not fully support the DVD spec or have large enough playback buffers. I found a little more insight here:
    http://www.aidinc.com/features/dvdfaq.asp
I tried the disc I burned from iDVD in 2 different physical players and also in Tiger's DVD Player app. The disc works perfectly played back from computer. It played with just a slight bit of audio stutter on a 5 year old, under $100 Go player but with lots of stutter and even stutter on menu transitions in a 2 year old $250 Samsung DVD recorder.
I want to try burning the project from a disk image in Disk Utility using a slower burn speed but have not yet tried that.
My slideshow is pictures of a recent visit to relatives who are die-hard PC users. Unfortunately, I bragged to them about my Mac and promised to send them DVDs. Hope the discs will playback okay on their machines.
Hope this helps and Merry Christmas!

  • How to keep the last slide image in the background during loading transition??

Does anyone have any good strategies for using the last slide as a static background image when one swf file transitions to another during the loading process?  Basically, I'd like to keep the loading image ontop of the last slide during the transition.

Does this fairly recent post help?

  • Jagged images in slideshow

After creating a slideshow in iDVD 7.0 and viewing it on my TV (42" Toshiba) I get jagged images.
They seem to loading fine between transitions but as soon as they do the image is jagged.
I used all kinds of different images with different resolution and that doesn't make a difference.
I noticed that when I don't use any transitions and select "none" under transition menu there are no jagged edges, could it be the transition?
Please help this is my second day trying to fix this problem.
    Thank you in advance.

I have found similar effects. From a very close look at it (in .img format.. since I don't like to waste media...), it seems that when the slideshow is supposed to stop at the still image, instead it stops one frame into the transition.
so as the picture transition ends, you see the image dissolving and then sharpening to the still photo, then a quick flicker where the resolution decreases, you can see pixilation and sometimes a ghost image of the next image on the still frame.
After I updated using iLife Support 8.2 most of the egregious flickers seen using professional quality encoding went away.. but for a 40-photo slideshow with approximately 5sec viewing (cross dissolve transition on all), about 40% of the images show this still frame overshoot.
if the frame stops at the correct spot/chapter on the actual still photo (and not on the first frame of the transition), the image looks superb, even at full screen mode on a 17" CRT. but when it overshoots it, you see pixiliation, color distortion and sometimes ghost image of the next image.
anyone else noticed this? any thought on fixing this?
I've noticed this starting to happen more obviously in iDVD 06. iDVD 04 didn't have this issue at all, and iDVD 05 had some, but not as bad as '06. '08 was the worst until iLife Support 8.2 came out. encoding in either Al-book or MacPro (1/2008) didn't make any difference other than encoding speed

  • Slideshow transitions

Does anyone know if third-party plug-ins are available for iPhoto slideshow transitions? Or, is there a way to edit the characteristics of an existing transition?
I was disappointed in the dissolve transition in iPhoto 5, in that the image brightness dims during the transition. This makes transitions between images that build on each other seem too obvious instead of allowing the new element to just fade into view (particularly noticeable when using a white background). This aspect appears unchanged in iPhoto 6.
I'd love to know if anyone else has been frustrated by this. Have you discovered a work-around, or is there another slideshow program that gives more control in this area but will still export to iDVD?
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Frederick:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Haven't seen any 3rd party transitions available for iPhoto. If you don't use Ken Burns effects you can build your slideshow right in iDVD by importing from an album in iPhoto and add your transition in iDVD. You will be limited to only 1 transition per slideshow the the image quality is generally superior to that of the slideshows created in iPhoto and exported to iDVD.

  • Multiple Sound fade outs during slideshow on a burned DVD

Using iDVD, I created a slideshow, from an iPhoto album.
I added music from my iTunes library.
I tried it on the screen, and it worked great.
Then I burned my DVD, and tried it on my TV set with a DVD player connected to it.
It works OK, except that at each slide change, during the transition, there is a sound fade out.
Then the music continues, to the "normal" sound level.
    I did it twice.
One DVD burned with the slide timing forced to 5 seconds, and once with the automatic timing, that choses the timing based on the music duration.
Same result : Sound level fluctuation (fade out/fade in)
    Anyone knows the solution

Do you have more than 99 photos in this slideshow? There is an issue similar to what you described when this is the case. I also wouldn't rule out music purchased from iTunes.
    Here are two suggestions.
    1. If you do have more than 99 photos, create your slideshow in iPhoto, and export it as a QuickTime movie. Then drag the movie icon into the DVD window; be sure to avoid the drop zones. Complete your project in iDVD.
    2. Burn the music you purchased to a CD, and reimport as an AIFF file. iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Importing>Import using: (drop down menu) AIFF encoder
Before you actually burn another DVD, first save as a disk image. This will allow you to view the project on your computer using the DVD player. You can catch any errors and correct them before burning the DVD.
    I hope this helps.

  • T520 won't detect Network card in WDS/WinPE/Ghost image disk

    Hello all,
I figured I would just post this so I could save 2 days of someone elses life.
I'm not sure how many other modes have the EFI and UEFI bios's in them but this has caused a lot of problems when trying to capture an image / image the Lenovo T520.  So for anyone else that is having these problems here is how I got around the problem.
    The Problem:
While trying to boot up off a Capture image with a CD or PXE boot for our WDS server the laptop would not detect the network card giving no IP address and listing the adapter as a hybrid.  When trying to do a ipconfig /renew it would give an error around the lines of the loopback something or other ....... the adapter could not be contacted or initated.
I instantly thought this was due to the vanila WinPE / Capture image not having the drivers for the Lenovoo T520, so I went to the website downloaded the new drivers and injected them into the WinPE disk(You will want ot use the NDIS Drivers which are included in the package for this).  Following this process it would still not detect or install the NIC.  After many hours of searching it would apear this was due to the EFI/UEFI bios options not going through the proper boot cycle when in a PE enviroment.  The solution was to mess around with the EFI/UEFI switches in the WinPE boot image during the creation proccess as listed below:
    ocdimg -m -o -u2 -udfver102 -bootdata:2#p0,e,bc:\winpe_x64\etfsboot.com#pEF,e,bc:\winpe_x64\efisys.bin c:\winpe_x64\ISO c:\winpe_x64\winpeuefi.iso
The link with more details is here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947024
Eseentially once the new boot image was complied with the proper EFI / UEFI options enabled it went through the proper boot process detected the NIC and installed the drivers which I previously provided on the disk and we where off to the races imaging the new laptop.
Hopefull this will help some others who are struggling with this or any other model that has this type of bios.
    Cheers, and thanks
Please feel free to post any additional comments to help others if you found better ways to get around this
One side note the EFI/UEFI to legacy mode only does nothing for the NIC problem, I have seen some posts where they can help with the hard drive issues when imaging, however as for the nic not loading in PE enviroments this setting in the BIOS did not reslove the problem.

    Hi Rusty1234
If I did not remember wrongly, you may present or add drivers (network, hardware) under WDS / Ghost software or copy necessary drivers (e.g. your T520 network card drivers) under it's PXE / boot section.
    Happy 2012!

  • Poor Image quality/Slideshow/iMovie to iDVD

I placed about 150 jpegs as clips in iMovie HD (v.5.0.2). I made them all 3.25 seconds long and gave them all a short overlap transition. I set them to music and exported to iDVD (v.5.0.1). Once the DVD was burned, I viewed it with disappointment. Briefly, during the transitions the images are of great quality. But the actual image clips are very poor quality. I'm new to this and I find all the many options for making quicktime movies a little overwhelming. But, exporting to iDVD doesn't have any options. I thought it was supposed to maintain the quality.
What did I do wrong or what can I do right?

    Karl Peterson said,
"If there are unrendered clips in the Timeline when we tell iMovie to Share (Export) a project to iDVD, iMovie will ask permission to render those clips. (Rendering converts the clips to video clips.)
These may include still photos, photos imported with the Ken Burns checkbox turned OFF. Photos imported with the Ken Burns checkbox ON are rendered by Ken Burns; iMovie won't ask to render them again.
If we grant permission to render clips, iMovie will render them with very poor quality, adding lots of "jaggies" to the photos. It's a bug.
To avoid the bug, do NOT grant permission to render when iMovie asks. Then iDVD will render them for us, which it does with good quality.
So, to avoid the bug do any ONE of these:
    1. Import all photos with the Ken Burns checkbox ON.
    2. If iMovie asks permission to render when exporting the project, do NOT grant permission.
    3. Instead of sharing from iMovie to iDVD, drop the iMovie project into the iDVD project window.

  • SOS - pic quality sharp thru slideshow transition, then "settles" pixel-y

Hi, Desperate for immediate help b/c the slideshow I made has to be played later today at a memorial service. Also not sure whether or not I should post in iMovie or iDVD, but starting here.
Created a slideshow, 115 images, cross dissolve transition (so I could "bulk" add the transition), 4 audio clips, and photoshop-created title and ending slides. I could SWEAR the first time I watched the slideshow WITHOUT transitions, every picture looked normal.
Now when I watch the final product, I can see the new pic transition in and at the last second, when the picture is its sharpest, it's like it loses focus slightly and becomes pixel-y.
Then just before it transitions out, it gets crisp again.
Sound familiar to anyone? Any fixes?
    Thanks!
    Elizabeth

    Hi
Please rephrase. I'm not smart enough to get it.
If I do a SlideShow in iMovie HD 6 - Then I don't Use the Share to iDVD function from
within iMovie. To me it's been harmfull in two ways
    • Resulting DVD is severely pixelated
    • Original in iMovie get's it's photos harmed = needs to be re-imported and re-built
I do when done in iMovie. Close it [cmd-Q]
Open iDVD and import the movie project.
This will force iDVD to do the rendering and so much better.
Else I use FotoMagico to do Slide Shows (incl in Roxio Toast™ 10 pro bundle)

  • Audio freezes during photos transitions

    Hello,
after burning DVD, when playing the disc on a regular dvd player, the music jumps during the photos transitions in the diaporama. When playing the disc on the macbook, everything is fine. My wish is to send the disc to other people so they can watch that DVD... Is there a way to get it to work or should I just eliminate the transition?

Thanks but it isn't the case, the preview is fine,
but the final burned disc is my problem. On the
macbook, everything is fine, but on a regular dvd
player, audio jam during every transitions.
Sorry, but that's the way it works. Slides in a slideshow are actually 'chapters' and some DVD players drop the audio on chapter changes.
The ONLY way to get continuous audio during a slideshow for all DVD players is to create your slideshow with audio as a movie in iPhoto or iMovie.

  • 30" HD Apple Monitor leaving ghost images and vertical lines

I have a Mac Pro Gen 1 with ati 5770 HD video card runing Snow Leopard. My 30" HD Apple Monitor will flicker and leave verticle lines and perstent ghost images from closed windows, even during shut down.  Some times it will flicker back to normal, but then it will flicker back to leaving verticle lines and ghost images.  I have tried using a different video card, same issue, nothing changes.  I have tried instaling new video drivers and using old ones. I have been using the ati 5770 HD for months now without any issues.  How do I fix this?

If two different cards produce the same results then I would think its your 30" display which is failing.
    Update:
I just noticed in your sig you are using 10.6.8.  There are some threads about video problems (flickering, not sure about vertical lines) with 10.6.8 (google "10.6.8 flickering site:discussions.apple.com").  So if you boot from your installer dvd which presumably has an older version of OSX (10.6.4 maybe?) do you still see the display problems?
Another thought - would an smc and pram reset affect anything?  You might give it a try too.

  • Burned DVD slideshow transition

I made a slideshow project on iDVD, and burned it on a disc.
When I played it, I found one problem
During the transitions, where the pictures are sliding in and out...when the transition stops, the picture becomes slightly brighter, and when it moves again, the picture slightly dims and slides out...ie, its not a "smooth transition" or "smooth slideshow"
this "brightening" and "dimming" of the pictures during transitions doesnt happen when I directly play off of iDVD...only happened after I burned it on a DVD. I've tested this out on playing the DVD off a DVD player, and my Mac.
can anyone help me on this??
    Thanks!

The transitions don't work well with menu DVD players; if you experiment you will find some are worse than others. The problem is, slides in an iDVD slideshow are considered to be chapters and many players pause on Chapter changes.
For best results, create your slideshows as movies in iPhoto or iMovie. I use Fotomagico and others like Photo to Movie; either of these commercial programs give you many great slideshow features.

  • SlideShow transition IE finally working except

Well I finally got it to work with 2 small problems.
Hopefully someone has come across this and knows if there is a solution.
    Problems:
    1) not everything is staying centered on the index page when changing the window width in IE browser and emulating ie7. It works in Safari and FireFox and my other pages in IE browser NOT emulating IE7.
    2) the shadow boxes are not working on the index page... again in IE browser and emulating ie7.
    www.bigbroncocc.com
    The SlideShow transition fix:
I added the following meta tag to my index page:
    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=EmulateIE7" />
The (Slideshow basic) did not work and I had to use the (SlideShow with filmstrip) as stated by (W Bell)... link provided by Gramps below.
I could not install the slideshow with filmstrip directly into my page from the widget browser in dreamweaver...  From the widget browser I saved the (SlideShow with filmstrip) files to my hard drive and copied spry folders and html code into my page.

    Have a look here http://forums.adobe.com/message/3480458#3480458
    Gramps

That's correct I could not get the basic to work and had to use filmstrip... and strip out every thing that I did not need... the slideshow with filmstrip did not work when I used the (insert widget) in dreamweaver. as mentioned above. I am new and self taught myself, hope this helps.
I also found it very helpful to use a code checker, links below
    http://http://validator.w3.org/
    http://http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
I ran across the issue of the (panandzoom  going off the image and it showing black) I believe it has to do with your css code most likely width and height. below is the only css code I am using that relates the the slideshow.
    myMain.css file:
    #home .container .content #ImageSlideShow {

  • Abend trannta.nlm with dos client when tranferring ghost image

We are using Netware 6 for ghost image with pure IP DOS boot disk.
When we upload a image to Netware 6 for HP DC7600 workstation with Broadcom
    57 card, it crashed with
a red windows "TRANNTA.NLM: TCPSENDACKEDCALLBACK() ACKED more data in
    queue" during upload process.
We did "SET TCP DELAYED ACK = OFF" on the server but it does not help.

I've never found a method of solving that crash. I leave IPX enabled
and use IPX just from my Ghost boot disks, not only because it's
faster anyway but because of this very issue you're reporting.
(The environment I remember seeing it in would have been Dell Optiplex
    GX150s with 3C905 on-board NIC, for what it's worth, so I don't think
    its exclusive to your hardware.)
Using a Windows PE boot CD & Ghost32 has been working successfully for
me too; so I suppose the day I'm forced to use IP-only pathways I'll
just use WinPE exclusively and drop the DOS boot.

  • Slideshow transitions speeds and slide duration

Yet again I'm updating a site created in a previous version of Muse and run into problems. Can anyone enlighten me?
The site - www.edinburghblue.co.uk - contains two slideshows. One contains the site background images and the second contains rotating text information.
In the original Muse site both slideshows had a Transition Speed of 0.5 seconds and the image duration was set to 5 seconds. Both slideshow changed in sync.
Since opening and updating the site in Muse v4.1 Build 8 - this morning - the slideshows are now out of sync. I've been phaffing around with the settings but the bottomline is that the site doesn't look as slick as it once did.
Has anyone encountered the same issue? If yes, how did you resolve it?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

    Thanks for the compliment Malcolm.
On the face of it the slides do look in sync but for me there's almost a half second delay between the two shows.
In the previous version of the site the background image changed at exactly the same time as the text.
If you look closely there now appears to be a slight delay.
I'm aware that Adobe provided us with more controls over slideshow transitions, which was most welcome.
I just wondered if there were any guidelines anywhere on how to use them.
It may be a case that different bandwidths are causing this slight outage - but that's me speaking off the top of my head!
I'll muck around with the settings a bit more and see if I can achieve the same effect as the site once had.
