Ghost lines in Pdf version 1.3

Using InDesign CS3
In a document with type that has a drop shadow applied, when I make a pdf for print, PDF/X-1a:2001, there are white lines that appear around the type box in the pdf. These do not print on my inkjet printer. When I make a pdf with a later compatibility Acrobat version (e.g. Acrobat 8), these lines do not appear. When submitting to publications for print, these later version Acrobat compatible pdf are not accepted.
Does any have this problem and know the workaround?

I've run into that problem as well only on my mac with indesign 4. You could try creating the effect in illustrator eps file then import it or open it in photoshop save as tif. It worked for me.
So has anyone come across this problem? I have a eps file on the bottom layer, above it is a product (tif photoshop) in a separate layer. When i save the pdf the eps lineart knocks out the color of the product so half of it is white. it kinda like the minus front pathfinder option but with colors. Its driving me crazy and i can't figure it out.

  • PDDocSaveWithParams does not change PDF version from 1.8 (Acrobat 9, Acrobat X) to 1.4

    Dear all,
this post seems similar to this discussion:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1160826#1160826
    but it is not.
Our customers prepare documents to be presented at regulatory  authorities, and it is required that these documents have PDF Version  1.4, are linearized, etc. In a plug-in we change the document properties accordingly. This used to work fine with Acrobat versions from 6 to 9. Then came Acrobat X.
We detected the problem with a document created with Acrobat PDFMaker 10.0 for Word: a very simple 1-page 3-lines document with no Acrobat X features.
When using Acrobat X, after calling PDDocSaveWithParams, the PDF version was not changed as required. (We check this calling PDDocGetVersion from the plugin after saving.)
Doing the same conversion with Acrobat 9 seemed to be OK: PDDocGetVersion reported PDF Version 1.4.
But when opening the converted document in Acrobat X, it still reported "PDF Version: 1.7 Extension Level 8 (Acrobat X.x)".
Opening it in a text editor showed that the header was "%PDF-1.4", but it still had "<</Extensions<</ADBE<</BaseVersion/1.7/ExtensionLevel 8>>>>..."
With Acrobat 8 and below, the version could not be downgraded, but this was reported correctly.
Downgrading the version directly via the "Optimize" function of Acrobat X worked.
I could not test Acrobat 9, since I have no Professional version available.
In Acrobat 8 Prof, I saw the message "This file appears to use a new format that this version of Acrobat does not support.", and the "Optimize" function was disabled.
Now I have the following questions:
    (1) Is it a known problem that PDDocSaveWithParams does not downgrade the version with Acrobat X ?
    (2) Is it a known problem that PDDocSaveWithParams does not downgrade correctly with Acrobat 9 ?
    (3) Is it a known problem that Acrobat9 wrongly reports the PDF Version of the document, in this case ?
    (4) Why is downgrading (or optimizing) disabled for Acrobat 8 and below ?
    Thank you !

Remember that as of PDF 1.4, the version number in the PDF header can be overridden via a /Version key in the /Catalog dictionary.  In addition, the presence of an /Extension dictionary (ISO 32000-1) will also override the header version.
The header version is JUST A HINT - it is NOT a guarantee of any sort.
Based on both of the above, neither of your "bugs" are bugs.
Acrobat 9 (and I assume X as well) are reporting correctly. If you have a PDF that you believe IS being reported incorrectly, please post!
If the Extensions dict is present, the Save command will NOT override it since it takes precedence.

  • All lines on PDF form are not printing

Greetings to all. I am running Adobe Acrobat XI version 11.0.0 on Windows 7 Home 64bit OS. I have made an attempt to print a PDF form. All of the lines in the form will not print. The properties of the document are:  PDF Producer: MAC OS X 10.7.4 Quartz PDFContext and PDF Version: 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x). My printer is HP PSC 2350 series. There are about 30 lines on the form and out of the 30, 4 lines will not print. This form was not created by me. I saved the PDF from my university's website. Also and strangely, when I go to my printer settings and select Booklet, under Page Sizing & Handling, everything prints perfectly. I did try editing the lines by increasing the stroke width under Content and Editing but all of the lines still will not print. Here is a screenshot of the form from the website. My question is what settings on my printer or adobe acrobat do I need to change? Or what could be the cause of this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Please do not hesitate to respond if more information is needed.

Most likely, the fault lies with the application used to fill in the forms,
which is probably Apple Preview, that is known to cause this problem. You
can fix the forms with this utility:
    http://blog.practicalpdf.com/2013/08/introducing-the-practicalpdf-fix-form-utility/
And in the future instruct your users not to use Preview, but only Adobe
    Reader (or Adobe Acrobat).

  • PDF Version Issue

I am having a major problem. I have to save a PDF back to verion 1.4 . Everytime I use pitstop to change the version it works correctly but when I save the file and re-open it the file is back to a higher version again. I went into Pitstop preferences and made sure the "PDF Version" box is checked. This doesn't help. I tried everything I know of to stop this from happening and it always converts back to a higher version. This didn't happen with acrobat 8 but it is for Acrobat 9.
    Please advise,
    Thanks
    Shawn

Open pdf file with a text editor. What does the first line say? BTW, Acrobat 9 change the pdf file specification using the PDF Optimizer.

  • PDF version different than what shows in Metadata

USUALLY, when I open the metadata of a pdf, the version shows in the first few characters (1.2, 1.3, 1.4, etc)
    %PDF-1.2%âãÏÓ
I've come across a couple pdfs that SAY 1.4 in the metadata, but when opened with adobe reader they say pdf version 1.5! Which is correct? Is there a more efficient way to look for the pdf version?
    Here is an example:
    The metadata says version 1.4-
    %PDF-1.4%âãÏÓ14 0 obj<</Linearized 1/L 140724/O 16/E 131916/N 1/T 140412/H [ 452 172]>>endobj
But when I open in adobe, the version says 1.5- (Seen in Document Properties)
    Can someone help?

The file can be tagged one thing and the pdf can conform to a different standard. Open the pdf file in a text editor (not a word processor), the first line should be a good indicator of what standard the file conforms to.

  • Download PDF Version of Sales Document.

    Hi Guru's
I want to open up an discussion regarding ability to Downlaod PDF version of Documents in Sap.
we are using RFC interface to create Sales Document and that user is defined as "Communication " User in Sap.
So as per Sap in order to Download we need a connection to presentation server and since these are the background users so download will not work with this type of user and also scheduling a Job will also not work (Sap Note 7925)
    Now my question is
Is it possible to submit Program to Sap Dialog work process(please note NOT BACKGROUND) to use some other user to run it.
    LIke SUBMIT ZPREP1
          USER ABC
but the user who is submitting is XYZ
I had tried but it is using the current user who is submitting the Job. Am i missing something?
    Please give your valuable suggestions
    Regards
    Lakhbir

Bottom line is background processes are not run in the presentation server. They are always executed in the application server and so you can access directories only there. Having said that, a round about way to achieve it could be to initially download it to the application server and then ftp it to the desktop of the user. I am assuming that since you are doing an rfc, you are doing it from a remote application which happens to know the desktop. So that remote application has to make a call to the rfc which creates the file in the application server. Depending on the success of this call, the remote application will then logon to the application server and ftp the file to the desktop. This ftp step is outside of the SAP world.
Another solution is to have you network gurus mount the windows network onto the unix network. I have seen this done in a couple of places. What they do(I don't know how) is they will have the same directory be visible as a directory in the application server as well as the desktop's network location. This they call mounting. This way your SAP world will treat it as an application server directory so you can run it in the background and then your users access the same file as if it is in the windows network.

  • 'Ghost' lines on a PowerPoint presentation as Full Motion Recording in Captivate 5.5

I have created a PowerPoint presentation as Full Motion Recording with audio in Captivate 5.5. When I preview the resulting video or publish it the LMS there are 'ghost' lines on the slides, as if Captivate is picking up the PowerPoint textbox outlines or graphic placement guidelines. Is there any way I can remove these lines?
Alternatively, is there any other way to make a video of a PPT so that the animations work without any user interaction?

Thanks Lilybiri. I made a misyake about the version of Captivate - it should have read '5.5'.

  • "Ghost Lines" on the Zen Micro screen

I just noticed that my Zen Micro has "ghost lines" lines that extend past their dimensions (i.e. the volume box's lines extend past where they should) These lines are extremely faint, but if you look some what close you will see them.

Hi! The release notes for the .02.05 firmware version mentions "i<!--StartFragment -->mproves the look of the volume control bar".
The visual difference is very small. At first, I didn't even know what was different. But it hit me today that these ghost lines seem to be gone indeed.

  • Preserving PDF version after Save during "Extend Features in Reader"

    Hi,
I'm using Acrobat Pro 9 and I'm attempting to make a fillable form that needs to be compatible with Acrobat 5 (PDF v1.4) . I can make the form, but when I extend features in reader, the copy it saves is PDF v1.6 (Acrobat 7). Is there any way to maintain the PDF version when doing this, or is this not possible with V1.4 PDFs?
    Thanks.

"Reader enabling" was introduced with version 1.5 (Acrobat 6).
    Be well...

  • PDF version - change to 1.7 by default

    Hi there,
When I create a PDF in Acrobat Pro X, the default PDF version is 1.5(Acrobat 6).  Now when I go to Print --> Properties --> Adobe PDF Settings tab and click on the "Edit" button, I can click on the "Compatibility" drop down box and select "Acrobat 8.0(PDF 1.7)."  This will allow me to create a 1.7 PDF - but it is a lot of work for our end users - is there a way to just make Acrobat create 1.7 PDFs by default?  Registry setting possibly?  The PDFs have to be version 1.7, long and uninteresting story.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Assuming you are using AA8 or later, you simple set that in the settings file. You may have to save the settings file to a new name, not sure. In that case, make the new name your default settings file in the Adobe PDF printer and in PDF Maker.

  • Adobe Reader for Windows Phone cannot open older PDF versions?

I've found that Adobe Reader for Windows Phone displays the following error when I try to open certain PDF documents: "There was an error opening the document".
After doing some limited testing I found that it can successfully open PDF documents which were saved as "PDF version: 1.5 (Acrobat 6.x)", but the error appears when it tries to open documents saved as the older format "PDF version: 1.3 (Acrobat 4.x)". (I am checking the filetype version by opening the documents in Adobe Reader X on my PC and looking at the document properties).
My phone is a HTC 7 Mozart running Windows Phone 7.5. I noticed the problem when I was using the SkyDrive app to try and look at some PDF files I have saved in SkyDrive. SkyDrive downloads the file and then passes it to the Adobe Reader app to view. It works when I look at a newer version 1.5 PDF but not the older v1.3 type. Unfortunately my HP Photosmart 5510 scanner outputs scans as PDF files and only in the older file version.
I've tried reinstalling the SkyDrive app and the Adobe Reader app on my phone. (The Adobe Reader app is version 10.1.1, build 20120919).
Is this a known limitation, or is this a bug?
If this is a limitation that won't be fixed - is there an easy way I can convert my files to the newer file type? (Adobe Reader X on my PC doesn't seem to offer a way to convert existing files)
    Thanks!

  • Problem with Reader file when we try to save a pdf version of filled in file.

We currently create fillable forms in Acrobat XI and enable them for fill-in with Acrobat Reader.  Our end users are able to key information and save it to the enabled pdf file with Reader, but they want to create a protected version of the form so nothing can be modified once they have approved it.  They have been creating "locked" pdf versions of the completed form using CutePdf software.  The PDF files they are creating open fine with Acrobat Pro XI or our free FoxIT reader, but when we try to open the files they created with CutePDF with Acrobat Reader, they are quite distorted.  According to users, this worked with older versions of Acrobat Reader.  Please let us know if you have any suggestions (other than switching from Acrobat Reader to the free FoxIT reader.
    Thanks for the help!!
    Ken K. - 2191

Can't endorse FoxIt or CutePDF, since I don't use either of them, and Adobe doesn't like us endorsing thrid party products in their forums anyway. On top of that I know several people who had really bad adware experiences with FoxIt, so I'd say stay away from it.
Most likely neither of these software developers has updated THIER software to work with Acrobat/Reader XI and the problem lies with them, since PDF is an Adobe format and they must follow the lead from here, not vice-versa.
