Ghost mailboxes

I have created a new mail.app including its accounts.
Then I have imported File>>Import Mailboxes.
The two Gmail accounts have been imported as the others three accounts I have, and all the five are under my On My Mac (see the screen picture attached), the five accounts are as ghost mailboxes.
I have managed to copy and paste the content (e-mails) from the ghost mailboxes to the newly created mailboxes.
Now, the incoming mails is going strait to the three real mail boxes.
The problem is with the two Gmail mail boxes. Even though I have copied and pasted the content of the former gmail boxes to the new ones, but when trying to download new mails, instead of going to the new gmail boxes, it is going to the ghost mailboxes, the gmail ones.

What can I do to redirected the new incoming emails from the ghost mailboxes to the new ones.?
Is it possible for me to erase-delete these ghost mailboxes?
TIA

Bump - does no one else have this issue? Today it was saying "Incoming mail - Receiving 33 of 33" and nothing appeared. I'm concerned that a. I'm gettinga lot of spam and b. it's being shuffled to somewhere on my hard drive that I can't clean-up.

All of the messages and/or mailboxes have been removed from the mailbox. When the mailbox don't delete and changes color, I have to delete it again to delete it permanently.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Deleting ghost mailbox

    Hi!
I have the following problem. I can’t delete a mailbox (emoze), I have tried to delete it using the Options > Settings > E-mail route but the mailbox doesn’t even appear under the [Default mailbox] list. I can see the mailbox name but instead of the mailbox icon there is a grey circular icon with a question mark. When I go into the mailbox all the messages also have a question mark but I can’t open any of them. I have noticed that after updating the phone software and before restoring my messages the mailbox is not there it only appears after I restore my messages. And lastly I have searched the emoze website without any luck.
Any suggestions as to how I can remove this mailbox as I am no longer using emoze?
    :robotsad:

Hi - I have had to delete and recreate my mailboxes once since I had the phone as it stopped syncing them.
When deleting I did have a problem that something was active. Make sure any connection / destination is turned off, widgets set to offline mode and turn phone off, then on again.
    Worked for me.

  • Mail subfolder drag and drop broken?

I store mail in subfolder sin On My Mac, dragging between current and archived work as projects demand (as in, I'll drag the 'client a' folder from 'Work - inactive' to 'Current work' when a job starts. In Leopard, this worked swimmingly. In Snow Leopard, this rarely if ever works. Usually, files move in ~/Library/Mail but not in the Mail UI, leading to empty mailboxes (which sometimes get their mail back after a Mail restart and mailbox rebuild) and 'ghost' mailboxes.
    Anyone else having this problem?
*EDIT: Seems to be mostly isolated to the Mail.Appetizer beta. Fewer (almost no) problems when that's disabled.*

    Hi, D.
    1. You wrote: "I've tried deleting various caches and preferences like other threads suggest for earlier versions of OS X, with no effect."Without knowing exactly what items you tried removing, I'd suggest — as a general check — running run the Procedure outlined in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
    2. An errant Startup or Login Item maybe the cause. My "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ can help you pin that down if such an item is causing the problem.
    3. If none of the above helps, see if you can narrow it down to a specific application, e.g. if the problem only occurs after you launch a specific — and probably third-party — application.
    4. Immediately after the problem occurs, check the ends of these Console logs for clues, such as messages relating to PBS or Pasteboard Server.
    Good luck!

  • Removing Unwanted Shared Folders

    Hi,
I have seen a bunch of posts re: how ^_- emails tend to create "ghost" mailboxes in the cyrus "Shared Folders" directory and the corresponding solution with frontline and the bug in cyrus that allows this to happen.
My question is regarding how do you delete these folders once they are made??
I have gone into var/spool/imap and deleted them physically (rm -r ^_-*)
I have tried to delete them using cyradm, however I get "Permission denied"
I try changing ACL permissions through CHOWN and get i/o Errors!
So my question is how does one actually get rid of these nonsensical ghost folders?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks - Rohin

    Ok,
Apparently the easy workaround is as follows :-
Download the SirAdmin utility which allows you to run a GUI application that has same functionality as cyrus admin
log into server using your admin username and password
re: the i/o errors, I chose the ghost mailboxes and reconstructed them all using the reconstruct button in siradmin (click on mailbox and then reconstruct)
Only after reconstructing I was then able to add the ACL for my admin with all privileges (only after reconstruct - before I was getting no permissions! very strange)
after you add ACL to give you all privileges you can then easily delete the ghost mailboxes!
Siradmin is a neat little app! =)- Rohin

  • How to reset junk mailbox message count?

Apologies if this is resolved elsewhere, but I can't find it. For the past several months I have received several "ghost" spams per day. (There is nothing in the sender, message header, or body.) The mail filter does not catch them. I wrote a rule (based on a suggestion in this forum) where if "from" does not contain "@" it is sent to junk. It seems to work fine. Since about then - and I'm not sure if the events are simultaneous - my junk mailbox won't reset its count of messages. I have erased all messages in it and SOME are erased, with the count being reduced by 3-4. The total shown next to the mailbox icon continues to grow, however. It is now around 50. There appear to be no messages in the mailbox. This began before I upgraded to Tiger and has continued since then. Mail seems to work fine, but it is very irritating. Thanks for your help.

    Hello Michael.
Assuming this junk mailbox is for a POP type account, quit Mail first and using the Finder go to Home > Library > Mail > this account named folder (named by the user name and incoming mail server for the account) > Junk.mbox.
Delete the Junk.mbox folder and empty the Trash.
When re-launching Mail, a new Junk.mbox will be created automatically by Mail within the account named folder when receiving the next message that is automatically or manually marked as junk.

  • I need to refresh Mails mailboxes

    G'day
I've struck a real problem with mail. I'm trying to script it so that mail is automatically opened and printed every time a rule shifts mail to a certain mailbox.
For reasons too long to explain, i need to do this as a folder action that takes all the mail in the 'messages' sub folder of a mail box and prints it. An 'on added items only use the added items' for various reasons sometimes misses mail, so I HAVE to grab ALL the mail, and shift out each item as it's processed.
Unfortunately Mail is very slow at updating its folders, and an image of the messages is often left behind, resulting in it being processed twice.
Messages can actually exist in two places at once, until Mail does whatever it does to update the boxes.
I really, fairly desperately, need a method of updating the mail boxes every time I shift a message out of the folder. I've tried all sorts of things, shifting the messages out and back in, and reading the messages twice in succession. The 'ghostly' mail can even persists across restarts of Mail.app.
    Regards
    Brian Christmas

I don't know if this will help, since it doesn't answer the question, but it may give an alternative approach. This script when fired by a Mail rule will print the messages it is passed.

  • Ghost mail?

I seem to be getting "incoming mail" but it is not showing up in any of my mailboxes. It has been happening for awhile. Most often it indicates that there are two messages incoming and they are quick and small. Just now I noticed an indication that there were 11 messages incoming but they did not show up. Not even in my spam box.
This is giving me the eebie jeebies!!!!!
Any ideas what these ghost emails are?

I had that problem once & it turned out that my junk settings were different on my Mac at home than the one at my office. They would all be sitting in my junk mail folder when I got home. Any chance that it's something like that?

  • Multiple Duplicate Mailboxes in Sidebar!!

    Hi.
    Anyone seen this one?
After installing Leopard, in addition to Mail hanging up on quitting, I now have 15 duplicate, inactive mailboxes on the Mail sidebar. Because they're inactive, I can't highlight them to delete them, they stay grayed out and they just sit there doing nothing.
    Any similar stories or advice?
    Thanks!

5 have now managed to rid the sidebar of my ghost/duplicate account and mailboxes. I moved everything I might want out of my inbox into other folders and backed everything up in case. Under accounts I had one .Mac and one with my full .mac email address with identical details. I deleted the .Mac account (which I think I may have added during the upgrade unintentionally when prompted as the upgrade did not seem to realise I already had a .Mac account). I then renamed my email account as .Mac.
Then I expanded one of my ghost accounts and deleted individual folders. As I deleted it from one so it vanished from all the other ghost accounts until they were all gone. The ghost account vanished as well and I am pretty much back to where I was with 10.4
Many of these steps may be unnecessary but it worked for me. Although I did not lose any mail I would strongly recommend backing up first.

  • Error message + user name ghosted in settings

I hope someone can help. I started getting this message last night after attempting to send a large file.
"Some actions taken while the account .mac account was offline could not be completed online. Mail has undone actions while online. Mail has saved other messages in mailbox "on My Mac" in "On My Mac so that you can complete the actions while online. Additional information: The connection to the server mail.mac.com on port 993 timed out."
Mail is working fine on my G4 - only a problem on my laptop. If I send from my laptop it is received on the desktop - but doesn't show up in Sent or Inbox on laptop. Just hangs....
I have tried changing the ports as was suggested in other posts but no luck.
I have gone into Mail preferences, and under my account information my Username is ghosted. Could this be the problem? Any idea how to fix this?
The three other .Mac accounts on the laptop are fine.
    THANK YOU!

  • Mailbox Folders Not Showing Mail Correctly

    Hello,
I am kind of baffled at what my mail is doing. Here is a screenshot of what my mailboxes look like. When I send a message it doesn't show up in the "sent" or "sent mesages folder", those only show select messages that were sent weeks ago. Also the trash only shows messages that were deleted weeks ago and not any I just deleted. It is like my mailbox is 3 weeks behind.
Also my inbox is deleting messages by itself!? I woke up this morning and 3 of the messages that were in my inbox that I received over the last couple days were gone? And finally, the drafts folder sometimes puts a sent message in it, but randomly and for no reason? It is like my mail program has a ghost. Any suggestions. I am really thinking of getting Eudora or somethign b/c I can't keep track of what I sent, if I need to fetch a deleted message, or even leave messages in my inbox without them being deleted.

Hey - thanks for the reply.
To hopefully add to this scenario, from the newest reply from the user, this started happening as soon as they upgraded to Office 2013, so any past folders that were created in their old Outlook (2007) were visible, it's only when they now create a new folder
from their new Outlook (2013), that the folder 'seems' like it isn't created, but when they check with another user that's still using Office/Outlook 2007, the new folder is there and usable.
We're still waiting on confirmation, but from what we've been told, the folders are visible/usable in the OWA as well.  We're also checking with the 2nd user who was also upgraded to Office/Outlook 2013 to see if there's a visibility correlation issue,
as well as whether there's a reverse to this (i.e. someone with 2007 creates a folder and whether the 2013 user can see that one)
For the most part though, right now it seems only the one user with 2013 is having this issue, so begs whether it's a client issue, or maybe some setting on the Exchange side that's not translating to their Office/Outlook 2013.
Going to schedule a repair of Office 2013 and will update when we try that (as well as the other), but in the meantime, any other notes/ideas are appreciated.
    Cheers

  • Draft mailbox shows one letter. When I open it there is no letter.

    Hi All;
I have a strange one. My draft mailbox says it has a letter in it. When I open the mailbox there is no letter. This is a pop mailbox. I have rebuilt the mailbox. I have gone onto my ISP servers and deleted all messages there all without have any effect on the ghost message. Does anyone have any additional ideas?
    Allan

There are a couple of inconsistencies in some of the information you’ve posted (you appear to have typed manually some folder names), but the real issue here is that your account folders use odd naming conventions (the ‘/’ path separator shouldn’t be part of the name of those folders), probably because they originated in a really old version of Mac OS X. Even though the problem you currently have isn’t serious, I’d just set up Mail again from scratch and import your mail back afterwards:
    1. If you have a .Mac account and .Mac synchronization of Mail data is enabled either in Mail > Preferences > General or in System Preferences > .Mac, disable it before proceeding.
    2. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    3. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/. Move (not copy) the entire Mail folder out of there, to the Desktop.
    4. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Preferences/. Locate com.apple.mail.plist and move it to the Desktop.
    5. Open Mail and set it up again from scratch. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and check that everything works fine.
    6. You’ll have to re-configure all your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    7. If Mail works fine now and you had any messages stored in local mailboxes, do File > Import Mailboxes, choose Mail for Mac OS X as the data format, and follow the instructions to import your mail from the old Mail folder that’s now on the Desktop. Import the Mailboxes folder first, then each of the POP-username@mailserver account folders. Again, Mail may choke on any folders with a ‘/’ path separator in their name, so I suggest renaming your POP account folder before importing it (e.g. replace ‘/’ with ‘-’).
    8. If .Mac synchronization of Mail data was enabled at the beginning, enable it again, go to System Preferences > .Mac > Advanced, click Reset Sync Data, and choose the appropriate options to reset the Mail data stored on the .Mac server with the data locally stored on the computer, i.e. sync data must flow from the computer to the .Mac server.
As a result of doing the above, some messages may be duplicated. Andreas Amann’s Mail Scripts has a Remove Duplicates script that you may find useful.
Do with the imported mail whatever you wish. You may move the messages anywhere you wish and get rid of the imported mailboxes afterwards.
If all is well and you don’t miss anything, the files on the Desktop can be deleted, although you may want to keep them for a while, just in case.
BTW, a side effect of re-creating your Mail database will probably be a significant decrease in the overall size of the ~/Library/Mail folder. You currently have a lot of obsolete files there that Mail 2.x no longer uses but that it leaves there after the conversion from Mail 1.x — see Mac OS X 10.4 Mail: Some mailbox files used by Mac OS X 10.3 are not deleted after importing.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. You can easily locate any of the folders referred to in this post by copying the folder path here, doing Go > Go to Folder in the Finder, and pasting the folder path there.

  • I have "unread" emails in my Mailbox and there are no unread messages there.

In my mailbox there are "unread" or "ghost" emails. My gmail accounts are perfectly fine however its my Exchange account that is causing me grief. I have now racked up 19 "unread" emails and 2 "unread" junk mail from the same account. I have tried making a smart mail box with the unread rule on, I have done a safe boot, I have gone back to the original sight of the email account and gone through all the emails there. I have turned the account off. I have deleted the account and added it again. I have tried highlighting all the emails, marked them as unread, and then marked them all as read. Still nothing!
I have no idea what to do now. Just 2 months ago I had my computer swept for viruses at the mac store so I'm hoping its not that.
    Please help!

    Delighted that helped
As I said, I think you tried many very good cures.

  • Issue removing duplicate mailboxes from E71

SEVEN was not working on my E71 so I uninstalled and reinstalled the program. My gmail account is now working but I have 4 Gmail mailboxes, one that is operational and three duplicates that are empty, inactive and that I can't see how to delete. If I go to SEVEN program menu then I can only see one account. If I go to Messaging there are 4 mailboxes.
I have tried Messaging>Settings>Email then highlighting the mailbox but i only get the options Edit,Help or Exit so I can't delete.
I have also uninstalled SEVEN and restored factory settings but the mailboxes remain, only now they have question marks next to them rather than the gmail logo. Now when I go to Messaging>Settings>Email they don't show up at all. How on earth am I supposed to remove them?
This is driving me crazy, If anyone can help I would GREATLY appreciate it.

I had the same problem on my Nokia E71, with 4 ghost accounts that I couldn't delete after installing System SEVEN - I spent a good couple of days trying to sort it, then I found the following fix (from kozjegyzo at the Seven forum http://community.seven.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4108) which worked, after doing it 4 times (once for each ghost account):
    kozjegyzo wrote:
    Hey All!
I'm happy to announce that I have a simple and fast solution for the problem above. I had the same trouble with ghost accounts littering my "Messaging area". I have a Nokia E71, but this solution should work on all Symbian devices (s60 for sure) since they are all set up virtually the same. Follow these steps and you'll be free of you ghosts (accounts anyway, the ones in your heads I can't do anything about sorry)
    1. Shut Seven down: - go into the app, then - Options-> Pause-> One day. - after the above - Options-> Exit. Seven is shut down now
    2. Remove Seven - go to - Installations-> App Manager - select System SEVEN - Remove Seven should be removed
    3. Complete removal Now if you've been around computers long enough, specially Windows systems you'll probably know that if you remove a software, it will leave files on your drive. It's just in case you wanna re-install it or if it's not a free software then so you can't install an other trial once you've gone 30 days. Essentially this is the same with some software in the mobile world as well. Seven is like this, it will leave file structure behind, so if you re-install everything will be as it was when you deleted it. This is why you get ghost accounts.
To remove this file structure and wipe the phone clean of Seven this is what you do: a; connect phone to a computer via bluetooth or cable and browse files or b; use the file manager on the phone itself to browse files In any case you need to find this (on Nokia phones): - c:/data/others/ - in here you'll see a folder called "SEVEN" - delete folder "SEVEN" Exit file manager (unhook phone from computer)
    4. Reboot phone
After this your phone will be free of System SEVEN.
You can now re-install System SEVEN and you will NOT have any leftover accounts.
Note: I did this on a Nokia phone, but other phones should have a "SEVEN" folder somewhere left over after normal removal of System Seven. So if you have a different phone, search for it and delete it if you wanna get rid of your ghost accounts. It's best to do this via computer connection, because some phones prohibit deleting files from system folders. I used bluetooth and I have Ubuntu 9.10 running on my computer...

  • Ghost Notifications?

Recently I've been getting ghost notifications on my iPod touch, after I updated to 6.0.1
Every once in a while, my iPod will send a notification sound or while I'm listening to music, the music will fade out and come back again because there's a notification.
However when I check the lock screen, there's nothing that displays a notification.
I've checked all my apps, and none of them have the red notification sign on them. There's nothing new in my email either.
I don't want to turn off the notification center for every app, because I actually need some of them.
    Any help? Thanks!

    Hi Apulblows,
Thank you for your post and welcome to Nokia Support Discussions!
Is your the email account on your phone set to download content "as items arrive"? It may be that the email client is trying to react in real time to whatever changes happen in the mailbox. What you could try, is to set the interval to 15 minutes, so that the email client does not attempt to respond to changes in real time.
As the email client is part of the Windows Phone operating system, it is unlikely that it has anything to do with the phone hardware.
    Hope this helps!
