"Ghost" T-shaped shadow in screen?

Hello,
I've been reading quite a few discussions regarding a "ghost mark" in screens. I take extremely good care of my MacBook Pro (after all, it WAS over $1000!) and have not dropped it once. When carrying it in my backpack, I keep it in a padded case. This mark developed last month~ I've had the MBP since June.
I have tried the whole white screensaver thing in case it is a image burn-in and it didn't work. I've heard that Apple will NOT do anything about it if it is a pressure mark, but than I've also read that as long as it is under warranty, they will replace the screen if you bring it into the Apple Store. Can anyone verify what the correct answer is? Also: I live way way too far from an Apple Store- what is the alternative if my MBP is eligible to be fixed?
Thanks so much!

I have the same burn mark
• "T" shape
• Center/Right
• Can be seen when screen is dark/black
I believe I know what caused this T burn.....
When I close the laptop ...the mark lines up with my keyboard.
• the top of the "T" shape starts right below the spacebar
• the middle of the "T" goes between the spacebar and command key
I have always used a cooling stand under my laptop & never closed it hot.
I noticed this mark mark shortly after the laptop had been running for a few hours without the cooling stand
& I closed the lid hot without turning the laptop off.
This is obviously a "Design Flaw" and I expect it to be covered by Apple Care
I will find out in a couple of days.

When posting in Apple Communties/Forums/Message Boards.......It would help us to know which iMac model you have, which OS & version you're using, how much RAM, etc. You can have this info displayed on the bottom of every post by completing your system profile and filling in the information asked for.
***This will help in providing you with the proper and/or correct solutions.***
Can you post a picture of your problem?  Sometimes, that helps.  You did not mention where this ghosting effect takes place?  Startup?  Finder?  Browser?

  • Ghost image on top of screen in the menu bar...

I've use an alternative black and white screensaver to try to get rid of that ghost image or look like "ink" going down on the upper right of my screen but it's still comming back and getting worst every week...., there is also a "grey" line all the way horizontaly also on top ... and even worst, i see my user name ghost image even when the screen is black ! i don,t think i'll be able to get rid of that and my question is , does applecare cover that kind of weird thing ? ... i didn't buy the applecare yet my computer is just 6 month old ... is that problem cover by the warranty

    Continued from above post:
And, you can search for the term: "Image Persistence" to find more.
Basically, the information from Apple says that to make a burned-in image disappear, you need to leave the computer off for a period of time equal to (or greater than) the time the image was displayed on the screen. But, that may not be possible when you consider that some images are on the screen the whole time the computer is off. So, it might mean turning a computer off for days in some cases.
I've made them go away temporarily by turning off the computer for 24-hours. And, also by displaying a pure white image on the screen for 6 or 8 hours. But, the second method was less effective.
The solution of turning it off was effective until the machine got hot again. Once it got really hot, the previous images re-appeared (further indicating that temperature impacts this problem).
My personal lesson from all of this is to not buy another computer from Apple that has a built-in screen.
My old LCD panel from Best Buy only cost me around $200 and it's still perfect after around 3 years.
Too bad the problems with both of my iMac G5's prevented me from owning them beyond 6 months each. I've never gotten rid of any computer I've ever owned that fast before (or since).
Between 2 iMac G5 computers (both different revisions), I've been through:
    3 LCD panels
1 Logic-Board (would have been 2, got rid of the other as it was failing)
    1 Mouse
    1 Keyboard
    1 Power Supply
    1 Front Bezel
Neither Logic board was replaced for fan noise. They were both actual failures.
All 3 LCD panels were having burn-in issues
the mouse button was sticking (the very day it arrived)
The keyboard actually cracked on it's own
    The power supply smoked
The front bezel was broken when it arrived.
And, there's probably a few items I can't think of at the moment.
The unfortunate thing, is that I have probably owned 100 computers or more in my time (used to be really heavy into them), and I don't think I ever had that many parts fail among the entire lot of them (except for the 2 iMac G5 systems).
Before my iMac G5's, I had never left a computer with a service tech. But, thanks to my iMac G5's, I got to know the local service guy very, very, very well. He knows who I am immediately when I call.
I hope to never have that sort of problem again. Here's hoping for a good Power Mac replacement (please Apple, no more systems with built-in monitors).

  • Does anybody know the terminal instruction to remove the shadow from screen grab images

Does anybody know the terminal instruction to remove the shadow from screen grab images?
I saw it somewhere on some site ages ago
(I like to align images together and take another screen grab without the darn shadow and without opening another app)

    I found this:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture disable-shadow -bool true && killall SystemUIServer
but this soesn't seem to work
    and this
To get rid of the shadow and only capture the window, enter this line of code in Terminal:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture disable-shadow -bool true
Then to implement the change, enter:
    killall SystemUIServer
To revert the modification and restore shadows, enter:
defaults write com.apple.screencapture disable-shadow -bool false
doesn't work either in Mountain Lion

  • Dark uniform shadows on screen

Dark uniform shadows on screen approx an inch apart showed up on startup.  Appear to start on the bottom of screen and fade as it goes up to top.  Any way to fix this?

I'm not sure whether I'm understanding the problem correctly, but it sounds like a hardware issue to me. Get it checked out by Apple. If you live near an Apple Store, make an appointment at the Genius Bar and take the machine in for them to look at.

  • I saw a ghost reflected in my iMac screen?

Do you think it was really a ghost or is it just because the screen is so glossy? I did just move into a new apartment and I have this feeling something is behind me often when I'm at the computer.

Lasey ~ If your new apartment is on a +dead end+ street, I think it really was a ghost.

If you run _Photo Booth_ continually, you'll be able to see what you're feeling without having to turn around. But if it looks like this, it's just someone in a costume:
< Click to view full size
...unless it's a ghost in a costume trying to deceive you — but that would be unlikely.

  • Any way to get rid of the drop shadow on Screen Captures in Leopard?

i do a fair bit of procedure documentation work, and so use screen captures quite a lot. Since upgrading to leopard the screen grab tool now puts a 77(ish) pixel white border and drop shadow around the screen captures, which might look trendy for some things, but for the stuff I am doing is just annoying, and something that I have to remove from all of my screen captures.
Is there any way to turn this "feature" off.

There's a Terminal tweak that I got from Mac OS X Hints here:
    http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20080629181121863
You just copy-paste a line into Terminal.app and after a restart the cursed shadows are gone!
If you do a Command-Shift-4 then hit space for a window grab, then grab the Dock, then there's apparently a single funkiness with this fix, in that the resulting image in this specific case (of the Dock) is stretched horizontally. I haven't seen mention of any other side effects, and otherwise it's working fine on my system, but be aware of that.
The Dock shows up fine in any other type of grab, so since I never take a picture of just my doc using the grab window function, I'm more than pleased to use this and get useful window shots back again.
    Hope this helps!

  • My iMac 27'', which I bought two Months ago, has ghost images on it's screen. Apple don't want to replace it. What can I do now?

    Hey!
Two months ago I bought the new, thin iMac 27'' with Fusion Drive.
Well, one week ago I recognized that I have ghost images on my screen.
Apple don't want to replace it. They want that I drive to the next 200km away
Apple Store (with this huge iMac) to show an Apple Employee the production error.
The problem is that it is an iMac with special features and I need to wait 5-6  business days.
After that I need to go back to this Apple Store (they won't send it) to bring it home.
AND: THEY DONT WANT TO OFFER AN REPLACEMENT DEVICE!!
I need this mac for working!!! I use it for my business and I have not the time for it!
Is there a solution for this problem? Has anyone of you a similar problem?
I mean: this is not accomodating!! Other companys have a better support for this case!!
Thank you very, very much in advance!!!!!!!
    Sincerey Yours

  • Pop up illustrator windows leaving drop shadows on screen even outside of illustrator

    Hi,
I've recently updated to Adobe Illustraor CC 2014 and there seems to be a new feature causing problems. The pop up character window initiated by the top docked toolbar is leaving a shadow on my screen, even outside of illustrator. The only way to get rid of it is to restart my computer.
This is driving me crazy as i never had any issues with Illustrator CC. Thanks for any help!

This issue seems to be with dual monitor setup where the 2nd monitor is 24HD Cintiq. Since the resolution of both the monitors is different the pop-ups from the control bar links are getting displayed detached/away (in the center of the screen) from the control bar.
Illustrator team is looking into this.
For the time being making both the displays duplicate resolves the issue when the Cintiq is not your main monitor.
Please drop me an email if anyone else is encountering this.
    Thanks & Regards,

  • Blue Shadow on Screen

Is it normal for a blue shadow to appear on the bottom of the screen whenever the background is black? I noticed it when I watch videos or the background is black by that spot. I bought my laptop in Feb. Does it need to be repaired? or would they even repair it? This is my first time owning any Mac computer.

No, it's not normal and you are still under your one-year warranty. So I would take it to your local Apple Store and have them diagnose and fix it.
    Good luck,

  • Macbook 2011 dark shadow bottom screen

    Hello,
I have a MacBook pro 13 from 2011 and I have recently started to see vertical dark shadows at the bottom of the screen. They are not always there but I can't figure out if they appear at a specific time\battery level\ecc. Sometimes they are flickering as well. They kind of look like this: http://blog.mclaughlinsoftware.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/MacBookProDisfigur edView.jpg
but they are not as pronounced.
Does anyone know what they can be due to?

    Hello aplazzarin,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Take a look at the article linked below, it provides troubleshooting tips that may help you resolve the flickering and shadow issue with the display on your MacBook Pro.

  • Ghosts and Pixilation on Big-Screen TV

Last weekend I brought home a 46" Samsung LCD TV.  I connected in-house coax to Verizon set-top box and then ran a coax patch cable from set-top box to TV.  Very dissapointing picture quality on almost all channels.  Unexpected ghosts and pixilation for such a well-reviewed TV and highly regarded FiOS service.  Checking connections and fine-tuning TV did not seem to help.  Then I removed the set-top box and asked the TV to search for channels directly off of the signal from the street.  This helped, but provided significantly fewer channels, no interactive guide, etc.  Do I need an upgraded box?  Upgraded firmware/software?  Other suggestions?

Frank, your post says you're using a coax cable from the STB to your TV.  This implies that you're not using the higher-quality signals that the STB can product, like (in increasingly improving quality) composite, S-Video, component and HDMI.  Your new LCD TV should accept the higher-quality imputs.  Suggest you try a component or HDMI connection to your TV from the STB.

  • Ghost Pictures of Desktop and Screen Saver best practice.

My Apple LCD Screen have only about 10 month and sometime i can see the edge of desktop picture who in my case is the Apple Rocks Collection Desktop Picture , i use 30 minutes before Screen Saver kick-in and 30 minutes before LCD Screen go to sleep .... is this a case of picture burning itself in the LCD Screen , is this irreversible or someting can be done about-it ....
For now i have reduce to 15 minutes before the Screen Saver kick-in and 30 minutes before the LCD Screen go to sleep , so now instead it is 30 minutes not 60 minutes before the screen go to sleep.
What is your best advice since as a video editor when the LCD Screen Saver kick-in too fast it is becoming very distracting to my workflow and 15 minutes seem to be not too short to my taste.

  • Screen going crazy like a ghost is using my ipad, screen going crazy like a ghost is using my ipad

Help!  My ipad acts like a ghost is using it.  It opens apps while i am doing stuff and makes moves in games all by itself.  Opens maps and zooms in then jumps to another app.  You cannot even use it.  Anyone know how to fix?  I have recently sync'd with my pc and all software is updated.  I have rebooted it and reset to factory settings.  Any ideas?

Do a reboot (Hold Sleep/Wake and Home buttons about 10 secs or more till Apple logo appears, ignore the Slide to Power Off that appears)
Note: You will not lose any data.

When I click on a drop down menu, such as one to find properties or to copy/cut, the shadow is left on the desktop.

That's a little more than a shadow! Regardless, let's try to reload your display driver. Given what's happening, go into 'Control Panel - Programs and Features' and uninstall any ATI software you see there. Then, go into Device Manager by clicking on 'Start' and then typing in   devmgmt.msc   and click on that file. Next, click on the arrow beside 'Display adapters', then right click on the 'ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics', and click on 'Uninstall', then click 'OK' to confirm uninstall.
Then download the appropriate driver to your desktop and double click on it to install. If you are still running Vista install the Vista driver, if you are now running Windows 7, install the Win7 driver.
