Ghost tracks appearing in library

I have a strange occurrence.
In my iTunes library, two tracks that I've bought from iTunes keep appearing as ghosts (attached).
I bought 55 Cadillac by Andrew W.K. from the iStore a few weeks ago, downloaded it, converted the tracks from Purcahsed AAC to regular AAC (just some OCD), then deleted the Purchased tracks from the library. Starting today, I've been seeing these ghost tracks—these first two tracks from Cadillac—appearing as gray ghost tracks in my library. They don't download, they can't play, and I can delete them just fine. When I do, they come back in a few minutes (along with the "Purchased" playlist that I don't like).
Running the latest version of iTunes, tried restarting the app and the machine, tried hiding the purchases in my iTunes purchase hisotry, tried unhiding them, and now I'm here.
Does anyone know what's going on? Has this happened to anyone else?
If this has been solved elsewhere, I'd appreciate the link—
Thanks!

I have the exact same problem. My Dad bought some music on my ipad and eventually I deleted them. Now when I view my music in iTunes I have these ghost tracks. When I delete them they re appear. Have you found the solution yet or no?

  • Ghost tracks - how to remove?

I have been using iTunes happily for some time now but in recent months - well since I swopped to a Mac actually - I seem to have acquired a large number of ghost tracks. These are all copies of existing tracks, the existing tracks work happily, the ghosts don't. They are only visible in itunes, on my device, music and there they are. They leave two symbols - either the ! in a circle or the dotted line circle (see image)
Now I know what the ! in a circle is these tracks can be made to work but the dotted circle doesn't work at all no right click! no left click! nofink!
The tracks are available to play as single items in the right playlists on my iPhone after the sync and the tracks are in my normal library - they only appear in the "on my device" section of iTunes and it is driving me nuts!
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

The only problem is I have only 1.6GB available and need 3.7 to update to the iOS7.  I also have 2.6GB in the "Other" catagory.  How do I access the "Others" area in iTunes in order to see what is there and what I might be able to delete in order to create the amount of space needed.  Thanks for your help!

  • Can I convert tracks from one format to another so that the converted tracks appear in the various playlists of the originals?

I have a large number of tracks which I should like to convert from one format to another (aiff to Apple lossless).  These tracks are distributed in a large number of playlists.  Can I convert a track or tracks from one format to another so that the converted track appears in the playlist of the original track without going through a laborious and error-prone process of converting each track individually, determining the playlist of the original, and allocating the converted version to the playlist (or playlists, because in many cases the original track exists in more than one playlist) of the original track.

I do not believe iTunes will do this.  The files created are essentially new media files, not regarded as replacements for old files.  There may be ways to trick iTunes if you are good at editing library files but that would be more trouble than it is worth.
You can check the site below but I do not recall having seen such a script.
    Dougscripts - http://dougscripts.com/itunes/scripts/scriptcount.php?sortBy=Name&op=y - Many itunes scripts
If you're into writing Applescripts you could try it.

  • Why have some tracks appeared in duplicate?

Some tracks in iTunes Match appear on my iPad and iPhone in duplicate. For example, the iTunes library on my Mac has Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree on it. This appears in playlists so it is on both my mobile devices as well. However, since subscribing to Match the downloaded tracks AND duplicate undownloaded tracks appear on my mobile devices...why is this and can I do anything about it?

If you have view automation turned on and click the disclosure triangle in the track header you can see extra automation tracks. This is to allow you to view different types of automation for a single track without having them all bunched on top of each other.
At a guess, they appear empty because you don't have any other automation on the track apart from volume. You can get rid of them by clicking on the disclosure triangle to hide them then check out the automation section of the manual, it should make more sense to you after this.

  • Tracks appearing in a random order

OK, I'm a massive fan of a band called Feeder, and I've put all of their B-sides onto my computer. Now, I've numbered the tracks to relate to the dates they were released (1-58) and put them in an album entitled "B sides", but when I sort by "artist" or "album", they appear in a random order. I've tried to put them in order, but they just keep on messing up.
Any solutions, other than sort by "track #"?? (As this causes a problem when I go to view all the tracks in the library)
Shuffle is off, I've tried enabling the "Part of a compilation" thing in the song info, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Could there be slight differences in the names?
I recently answered a similar question.

  • "Ghost" tracks can not be deleted from iPhone

I recently went on an international trip, and loaded up my iPhone with lots of music using iTunes Match. Once I had the music on the iPhone that I wanted on there, I turned off iTunes Match on the iPhone.
Now that I'm back I'm trying to get my iPhone back to way I was using it previously, but the tracks I downloaded via iTunes Match are "ghost" tracks that I can't seem to completely purge from the iPhone. They look like this in iTunes:
They don't appear to be taking up any actual space on the iPhone, but it's bugging me that I can't figure out how to completely get rid of them. The iPhone is a 3G S, running iOS 5.0.1. I'm trying to avoid restoring it, but that may be what it takes.

I ended up having to restore my iPhone.

  • I'd like to manipulate manually where in the track list (album view) the track appears.  How?

I've got the latest version of iTunes installed in Windows.
All I want to do is group some things together in my main track list under 'Album View.'
I have 200 items in my track listing.  How do I direct one item to display underneath two related ones?
Yes, I know how to edit track information.  So far that only works to edit info, not to sort.
There are fields in File     >     Get Info     >     Sort     >     'Sort Name,' 'Sort Album,' 'Sort Artist,' et cetera, but who knows what data goes in those fields to manipulate what order tracks appear in this list?

Please try the action I supplied in my post.
If you untick the search Entire library
Then type in your search term it will give the list of songs in the main window

  • Ghost podcasts appearing on smart playlist

When I create a smart playlist that should only have podcasts, a "ghost" podcasts appear then disappears when I am updating my podcasts subscriptions. I've tried downloading the podcast again and then deleting it, but it keeps coming back. I've also searched through my library, and these podcasts do no t exists. Please note that I am not using the Podcasts app.
Here is a screenshot of the issue

I tried that and it worked.  I already had the media kind as podcast and match only checked items set for the podcast.  Your post helped in regards to unchecking the podcasts.  I noticed that in the playlist that the podcasts that are checked that are actually not checked had the iCloud download symbol.  I deleted all that had the iCloud download symbol and that took care of it.
    Thanks for your help!!!

  • "Ghost" articles appearing?

We've recently run into a problem that has happened once before and we're not sure how it came about.
We have several apps that we share with others users within the Folio Builder, these users would not have InDesign and would only be able to see our apps either in their iPad Content Viewer app or through the Folio Producer web portal. Our problem is that a couple of times now articles appear to have been duplicated within an app but appear grayed out like they were HTML articles (they even show up as duplicated articles in the Content Viewer TOC). The owner information pops up that it was one of the previously mentioned non-developer users who made it ... what process could they have undertaken to mistakenly accomplish this?
Some apps appear to be randomly being marked as "Active" as well, our developers aren't the ones doing this either. We open the Folio Builder and all of a sudden there's a bunch of non-related apps with the green ribbon.
We're not even sure how to replicate the process that would duplicate an article within an app as an HTML article through the Folio Producer web portal. Does anyone have any ideas on how we can prevent this duplicate articles from appearing and for apps to stop being marked as active?
    Thank you!

  • Individual tracks appearing as albums in iTunes

I have several albums which have been on a back up server for several years which when I try to bring into iTunes insist on splitting themselves up so that each track appears as an album. Does anyone have any ideas what I can do to ensure the tracks are kept within an album?

Make sure the artist name is spelt in an identical manner on every track. Even an extra space at the end of the name that you might not notice can make a difference. Try this even if everything looks the same. Sort your iTunes library by artist to bring your tracks together. Click on the first track by your artist, hold down the shift key and click on the last track in the list, this will highlight all in between. Right click on the list and choose Get Info, you get a dialogue box asking if you want to update multiple items, click Yes. If you see the "artist" field is left blank, then there is a discrepancy with that name. Overtype the artist name then click ok and this will ensure the whole selection is identical.

  • How to remove duplicate tracks on my Library?

How do I quickly delete duplicate tracks in itune library?
I have many duplicate tracks because I uploaded 5 cds twice.
I upload cds to my itune library.
I then made changes to the song names and added coverflow.
So how do I back up these albums to my hard drive or external drive so if I loose it or want to upload these albums to another computer?
    thank you for your help...

Just go to view > show duplicates and delete accordingly. As for backing stuff up, read this:

  • Help, ghost image appearing in composition background

    Hello
I have an issue of a ghost image appearing in the composition background. I can't figure out how it got there or how to remove it. It's really annoyong as the image also appears in rendered videos.
This only seems to appear when my composition settings is set at 1024 x 576 px, which I must use for projects. If I increase the composition size by 1 pixel, the image disappears, change it back and it reappears.
Please note, that there is no files in my project and the image still appears.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Update your graphics driver and flush the disk cache. This is an artifact that relates to that - eitehr the buffer reappears when you set it back to the old resolution or an invalid cache is pulled in. It only disappears when you change the resolution because naturally there is no previously stored data...

  • Why are MS Excel "ghost files" appearing on desktop?

Sometimes when I save an excel file, a "ghost file" appears on the desktop.  Once the "ghosting" begins, multiple ghost files will appear every time I save an Excel file.  This didn't happen in earlier versions of OSX.  (I'm currently on 10.7.4)
Can someone help stop this ghosting from happening?  I have a picture of it but didn't know where to attach to this discussion.  And btw, if I restart the computer, the ghost files disappear & the process begins all over again.
    Thanks!

This are more then likely backups of your current open Excel workbook. There is a setting in Office, Excel, Word and the like to save the backups to a folder. Your somehow got changed to the Desktop folder in your Username folder.
