Ghostery settings not saved, but must be reset each time I open Firefox.

For several weeks now I am obliged to reset all of the Ghostery settings every time I open Firefox 33.1.1. The Ghostery webpage pops up along with my homepage and all of my prior settings have been removed. The folks at Ghostery tell me the problem is at the Firefox end. Can anyone help resolve this?

With the help of a friend I had tried that and Malwarebytes still did not detect the threat. At that point I bailed and got my computer wiped and all new software installed. I read a review on AVG antivirus that praised it for
its' sensitivity but cautioned against "false positives" for that reason. I am beginning to wonder if it was not a false positive since it only came up when opening Firefox, but not in the full AVG scan.
By the way I imported book marks from Firefox into Internet explorer which had never shown that warning and it began to show the warning on opening. It has me puzzled to say the least but thanks for your suggestions.

  • When I try to set my homepage to a specific website, firefox will not store permanently. I have to reset home page each time I open firefox. are there additional instructions in help to address this?

Each time I open firefox, it doesn't open to my previously set website (Yahoo). I have to reset the homepage each time I open firefox despite following the help menu method. I'm not able to locate a possible cause/solution on the help menu. pls advise

    Please do the following.<br><br>
    * In the location bar, type '''about:config''' and hit Enter.<br><br>
    * In the filter at the top, type: '''keyword.URL'''<br><br>
    * Double click it and remove whatever's in there and replace it with http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=<br><br>
The URL to add in "keyword.URL" becomes a link in this post, so right click it and choose "''Copy Link Location''" to copy it to the Windows clipboard. Then hit CTRL+V to paste it. Saves you having to type the whole thing.

  • I keep getting the an Alexa Sparky pop-up each time I open Firefox, it does not provide a "no" option... how can I permanently stop the popup?

Every time I open Firefox, I get a pop-up asking me to install the Alexa Sparky toolbar--which I do not want. The pop-up box does not offer an option to say "no" or "do not ask me again", which is VERY annoying. How can I permanently stop the popup?

How to disable extensions, Personas, and plugins
Disabling an add-on will turn it off without removing it:
At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions or Appearance or Plugins panel.
Select the add-on you wish to disable.
    Click the Disable button.
Click Restart now if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
To re-enable the add-on, find it in the list of Add-ons and click Enable, then restart Firefox.

  • Passcode must be reset each time return to main menu button is pressed

I am an IT help desk professional and have come across an issue with the Iphone 4. One of our employees recently purchased one and I installed Exchange on it so she could receive business emails. She had no passcode installed on the phone, but due to the sensitive content of our email, when the Exchange profile is installed it automatically forces it. Now, each time she presses the button at the bottom of the phone to get back to the main menu, it requires her to reset her password. We took the forced passcode out of her profile for now but need to find a solution so she can be passcode protected. Has anyone else see this occur??

  • Each time I open Firefox on my Mac, I am told to upgrade, but when I press install it simply runs on and on without completing.

Lately when I open Firefox, a dialog box comes up informing me that I should upgrade. But when I press install what I get is a process that goes on and on and never ends. I have had this happen several times and each time I have ended up closing the box and ending the process. This concerns me because I fear that at some point my version of Firefox will be so old that it will cease functioning. What can I do to insure that the newest version is installed. I have a Mac Book with OS 10.6.8.

  • ICloud password not accepted, intermittent failure and must be reset each time

So, my wife is becoming manic depressant when she tries to use her phone, computer, whatever...  on icloud.  It will work fine for a week or two, then suddenly the password for the same account she has had no problem with for the last 4 years doesn't work any more.  I then get called in to reset her password, re-sign in all of her devices, and she and I are happy once again.  This has happened a ******** amount of times, (more than 10).  I have went through the entire process of resetting all of the security questions... blah, blah... tech support... turn off,  sign out all devices, blah blah...  turn on, sign back in, on and on... update the computer, soft reset,  hard reset, "upgrade" to the new stupid operating system that she really hates, blah blah,  update the phone to an even worse OS,...  on and on.  Honest.  I've tried everything.   Everything is the latest model, and software version.
Does anyone out there actually know how to fix this intermittent problem?  There is no solid pattern to the time intervals. It can happen within hours, or weeks of me resetting the password and signing in.
Lately, I have spent more intimate time with my wifes Apple devices than her, and this is very disturbing for me. (and her)

    Hi,
Whilst Apple IDs that end in either @mac.com or @me.com they registration pages do not tell you that if you are going to be using it as an AIM Screen Name the password has to be 16 characters otr less.  (This is an AIM server limit)
At some point you will need to update the password.

  • I unsubsribed from Get Glue and now every time I open Firefox, Get Glue opens on the page and I cannot get rid of it. I like Firefox and would like to use it, but the problem with Get Glue coming up each time I open Firefox causes me not to use Firefox.

Don't know what to add. How do I get rid of Get Glue and have Firefox open by itself?

This sounds more like a Windows question, than a Firefox question. When you say that an image shows up every time you open your computer, do you mean every time you turn on your computer, or every time you start Firefox?

  • Verizon ONT keeps turning off randomly. I must manually reset each time, help!

As the title states, the ONT will randomly turn off, and in order for me to restore TV and internet, I have to unplug the ONT from the wall, unplug the battery backup, plug the battery backup in again, then plug the ONT into the wall.
I have had THREE technicians out this week, each stating they fixed the problem.  Alas, each time, a couple hours after they leave, the ONT shuts off again... it is driving me insane, and I am quickly losing my patience.  Has anyone experienced this before?  Anyone have any tips as to what I should tell the 4th tech to do in order to fix the problem?

Did you restore it as a new phone?
If so, and you're having this issue, best take it to an Apple store to be evaluated. They can test the battery to determine if it's gone bad.

  • I am running 4.0 version, and each time I open Firefox, I get a software update that says "Downloading Firefox / connecting to the update server", but it just STICKS there??? Why is this happening?

I am running Firefox 4.0 version, but for some reason, it tries to download updates and then gets stuck on trying to connect to the update server. This has been happening the past few days. When I close the update, I can proceed in Firefox without incident (that I know of).

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Software_Update (Software Update not working properly)
Remove the files in the updates and updates\0 folder.<br />
You may need to delete active-update.xml and updates.xml as well if present.
    C:\Documents and Settings\&lt;user&gt;\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox\updates
    (%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Mozilla Firefox)
If you have problems with updating then easiest is to download the full version and uninstall the currently installed version and remove the Firefox program folder to do a clean install of the new version.
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Each time I open Firefox, I get a popup window that says "It is strongly recommended that you apply this update for Firefox as soon as possible." But I have updated Firefox.

But I have updated Firefox. And if I tell it to do the update, it runs and runs and runs but nothing ever happens. It has a 'view more information about this update' link but the link does not work.

According to your user agent string you are not using the latest version of Firefox. It shows you have version 4.0, the latest version is 4.0.1
In the Help menu select "About Firefox", this should check for updates and then let you install the latest version.
If that does not work, try downloading the latest version from http://www.mozilla.com/ then installing it over your current version.

  • I cannot close a web page but it keeps appearing every time I open firefox 3.5./ Imac. There is no red close button on that page, no tabs, no option to refresh - only to press ok on some prize. Any suggestions?

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the sessionstore.js [2] file and possible sessionstore-##.js [3] files with a number and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

  • How can I REMOVE the Yahoo! tab from the menu bar? Each time I open Firefox, I get the gialogue box asking if I want to make yahoo the default and each time I respond no and check the do not ask this question again.

I am tempted to remove Ff4 and revert to 3.X if I cannot fix this problem. The question (statement) has all pertinent details already included

    '''Hello peacefultrev,'''
I believe from your question you wish to remove the window title-bar, while keeping the menu bar available.
I have two solutions for you to try. One requires no plugin and the other requires the installation of a plugin.
    '''No plugin option:'''
This option hides the the window title while also removing the menu bar. The menu bar can then be reactivated and viewed simply by pressing "Alt" which shows the menu bar until you click away from it. To do this:
    # Right click on the tab bar and disable "Menu Bar".
    # Whenever you which to use the menu bar, tap "Alt" on your keyboard.
    # When you click away from the menu bar the windows title will disappear until you tap "Alt" again.
    '''Plugin Option:'''
You can download this plugin called [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/hide-caption-titlebar-plus-sma/ Hide Caption Titlebar Plus] which can be customized to suit your needs. I cannot provide support on this plugin as I have not used it myself.
I hope one of these solutions will suit your needs.

  • Have 15 tabs that generally load each time I open Firefox. But every 3-4 weeks (?) I open Firefox and they are gone! Has happend in Firefox 12 11 10

I run Ccleaner every couple of days so it shouldn't be related to an accidental settings deletion.
This has been happening intermittently since at least version 9
    I have a Windows 7 i5 Desktop

Did you check the CCleaner isn't removing session data?
You can make a backup copy of the sessionstore.js file that stores the open tabs (session data).
Then you can restore that file to get that session back.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Session+Restore
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

  • I cannot keep the "keep me signed in" link. I always tick the request but it disappears the next time I open Firefox.

I think the problem to be self explanatory

Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
    * Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in Private Browsing mode.
    * https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Private+Browsing
In [[Private Browsing]] mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.
    * Do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"
Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
