Ghosting issues in timeline

We just switched at my job from Avid to Premier Pro CS3, so I'm learning again.
I am having issues with 'phantom audio' - it happens when I make a cut on the timeline to an audio track, but the sound continues beyond the cut, where there shouldn't be any at all.  It only last a few frames and then it's quiet.  I've tried setting in and out points in the viewer window and then dragging that to the timeline but I get the same problem.  Any ideas?

The very first thing that I would do is to convert the MP3's to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit, and use those files in lieu of the MP3's. MP3's can cause all sorts of issues. If you have Soundbooth, Audition, or even the free Audacity, the conversion will be easy. Just Open the MP3, and do a Save to the above specs. Import that WAV file, and replace.
Good luck,
Hunt
PS - note: no conversion process will ever replace the fidelity, that was stripped from those files with the MP3 compression. One would have to go back to before that compression to regain that fidelity.

  • Do new Retina Macbook Pro's still have ghosting issues.

If I buy a 13.3 inch Macbook Pro Retina today will it have a ghosting issue, or has it been resolved?

These are user-to-user forums where everyday folk post "technical" questions and offer answers to each other voluntarily.  No one here works for Apple nor does Apple get involved in responding.
The only way we would know if Apple has "fixes" is if they have publicly announced it on their website and Knowledge Base articles.

  • Purchased Samsung 63 plasma 8000 series ghosting issues

I purchased a 63 Samsung 3D plasma 8000 series in 2/10 and the picture is fantastic, but I seem to be having ghosting issues when people move on the screen or with fast moving scenes.  I had a pioneer 50 plasma that was 5 years old that did not have this problem with people only blurring with fast moving scenes like sports.  The people and scenes are clear it's just the edges seem to be blurring or ghosting.  Is this normal or is there something I can adjust?  It is really irritating to me.  I thought this TV was supposed to be an improvement with blurring or ghosting but at present it seems to be worse.  Please advise.

    what was it's original function.
Motion Judder or Blur Reduction (named differently depending on brands of TV) is used to help compensate for the natural blur some content has. Unless you are watching something in its default recording such as 24p you will have at least some motion blur. Once again this is blur that is in the content not something plasmas technically have like LCD's are susceptible to.
So what does it do or supposed to do:
A standard video signal is actually a series of still images, flashed on screen so quickly that we believe we are watching a moving image. The typical frame rate used in North America is 60 frames per second (60Hz) meaning that a TV would display 60 individual still images every second. Sub-field drive is the method used to flash the individual image elements (dots) on a plasma panel. For each frame displayed on the TV the Sub-field drive flashes the dots 10 times or more, meaning that the dots are flashing 600 times per second (600Hz) or more. (Example: 60 frames per second x 10 sub-fields = 600 flashes per second). TV's will try to compensate content judder by inserting more sub-fields into the image. However it tends to have mixed results. Sometimes it works sometimes it completely fails and sometimes it overcompensates.
I personally have a Panasonic plasma and I keep the blur reduction off.

  • HT5455 Is It normal that my premium category 15" retina MBPs screen has ghosting issues, then I get declined from screen replacement?

Is It normal that my premium category 15" retina MBPs screen has ghosting issues, and I get declined from screen replacement?
I have purchased this hardware in Budapest for approximately 3000 usd. I was a bit shocked to see screen ghosting after a few days of use. The problem was getting worse but because I am a design consultant working mainly on my Mac I couldnt take a week off to leave It at an Apple service station.
Last week I was surprised to receive the information from the local Apple repair shop in Germany that my retina MBP that I bought 13 months ago was declined from screen replacement by Apple.
Considering the price of the product I find It unacceptable that I need to work on a defective product and see shadows every time I leave an Illustrator or InDesign window open for a short period of time.
Is there any way to resolve this issue? I wouldnt like to pay another 800 dollars just to replace a component on my defective Apple product.

Contact Apple Support directly.  In Germany the Expresslane or this number
0800 6645 451 will allow you to speak directly to someone from Apple.    Explain your situation.   Mind you, AppleCare and issues with Apple products like this have to occur without any user accidents or user installed parts to ensure that Apple will cover you.  If there was a user accident or installed part, you may be turned down.  If you have the original Apple parts, and did the installation yourself, replace it with the original parts very carefully following the directions on http://www.ifixit.com/ unless you can afford an authorized service provider to do it for you.  Since we don't speak for Apple here, being end users like yourself, that's why I say "may", as I've seen Apple handle these things on a case by case basis.  So hopefully you don't have any obvious damage that looks like it is user caused.   Good luck!

  • Aspect Ratio Issues in Timeline

This may be a simple fix, may not be. I've searched the discussions, and have come close to an answer, but each topis is just slightly different than my specific issue.
    Details:
Shot in 16:9 on Canon XL2.
Imported media just fine, clips looked fine in FCP, etc.
Imported archival historical photos and film footage just fine, put them in timeline and resized each individually. They also looked fine in the 16:9 sequence.
Created a new sequence where I tried a different cut on a later section of the timline. (I just copy and pasted the material from the original timeline into the new sequence. This may be where I went wrong.)
I liked what I had and so replaced the end of the timeline in the original sequence witht the newly edited section from the second sequence. (Same copy and paste method.)
    Problem:
All of the aspect ratios for the original footage (16:9) and the b-roll (4:3) material was off (stretched, etc.)
I figured out how to change the origianl shot footage to its correct 16:9 aspect ratio, but all of the b-roll still is'nt correct--it's streched virtically, covering the bars at the top and the bottom of the canvas window. (The bars are black by the way, if this is an indication of settings.)
How can I get all of my b-roll back to fit the 16:9 aspect ratio of the project?

I was able to fix my issue...sort of.
I created a new 16:9 sequence and then pasted a copy of the original timeline into it. Because it was a true 16:9 sequence, all of the b-roll (still photos) were "squished" back into a 16:9 frame, hence making them look correct (because they had been stretched vertically over the 16:9). I knew the original 16:9 clip would also be "squished", but I knew I could manipulate the size of these clips much easier (they were all the same size, unlike the b-roll, there was no motion, etc.).
So, I took one of these clips and manually resized it's aspect ratio to fit the 16:9 exactly. Then I copied the clip, selected all of the rest of the clips that needed to be resized and pasted the size attributes. Viola!
Now my only concern is making sure when I export a QuickTime, and when I show it on a 4:3 TV, it will look correct, meaning it will not be stretched vertically to fit the screen, but instead will remain 16:9, with black bars on the top and bottom of the screen.

  • Frame blending issue in timeline

For some reason the video in my timeline and in the canvas has the previous frame blended into the current frame (every other resolution line). This makes the picture choppy with horizontal lines especially with fast movements. This issue doesn't show up when I put the video in the viewer but it is still there when the final project is exported. I have tried to tweak with the settings for a long time now and I haven't had any luck. Does anyone know how to fix this issue? It's driving me insane!

    Al,
This clip is raw footage captured from a miniDv tape. But I have this issue with High 8 and other sources. The only format that doesn't seem to have that issue is DV from dvd clips that I ripped.
    This Sequence properties:
    Vid Rate: 29.97 fps
    Frame Size: 720 x 480
    Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Dat Rate: (blank)
Pixel Aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601
    Anamorphic: (not checked)
    Field Dominance: Lower (Even)
    Alpha: (blank)
    Reverse Alpha: (not checked)
    Composite: (blank)
    Clip Properties:
    Vid Rate: 29.97 fps
    Frame Size: 720 x 480
    Compressor: DV/DVCPRO - NTSC
    Data Rate: 3.6 MB/sec
Pixel Aspect: NTSC - CCIR 601
    Anamorphic: (not checked)
    Field Dominance: Lower (Even)
    Alpha: None/Ignore
    Reverse Alpha: (not checked)
    Composite: Normal
I just noticed that this issue doesn't show up until I drag the clip into the sequence. If I just double click it from the browser into the viewer it looks perfect. I have a screenshot of this issue if it helps, I just don't know how to upload it into this message.
    Thanks for your help!

  • I have an HP Laserjet 2430tn Experiencing Ghosting issues

I'm experiencing ghosting when ever i print from our above mentioned printer. I have tried blowing nad cleaning it out, all with no success. the ghosting is taking place about 1/2 way down the page from the original and where it should be. Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated.
I'm wondering if it may need the maintenance kit for the device. The printer has around 60,000 prints through it, not sure if this will help.

Hi @DWD2444594 , I see by your post that you are no longer able to scan as a PDF after updating to Windows 7.
    I can help you.
I checked the drivers online for Windows 7.
They are HP LaserJet Hostbased Print/Scan Plug and Play Drivers. No additional software.
The Plug and Play Bundle provides EZInstall to assist with installation for direct USB connections and offers basic print and scan for all-in-one and multifunction devices.
The Windows scanning software doesn't have the feature for PDF scans.
You would have to use a Third Party Software for scanning by PDF.
I would just go to www.google.com and search for free scanning software for PDF in Windows 7.
There should be a lot of different ones available.
    Have a nice day!
    Thank You.

  • Video/Audio Issues in Timeline

Now that I'm about to finish the project I'm currently working on, I've encountered an issue with getting both the video and audio portions of all my video assets to come into the timeline when I drag them in my main sequence. • Can I ask apple store to replace my MBP with Retina display? because I have the ghosting issue with it!

I bought my MBP with Retina display less than two months ago and now I have this problem which the ghost of the application that was open, remains on the background.
I took the device to apple store and they decide to change a harware of it!! now I just feel like it is no going to be repaired.
just wanna know despite that 14 days of purchase date has passed, can I ask apple to replace the whole device and give me a new one or not!

you can ask them, but they are not obligated to fulfill your request.  They are obligated to fix any issues related to defective craftsmanship as long as your mac is under warranty however.

  • Issues with Timeline vertical scroll adjustment

    Hello,
My timeline has just gone wiggy. The video upper half of the timeline has no vertical slider, unlike the audio slider below. FCP was functioning fine and suddenly adopted this issue. The video part of the timeline, will continue to rotate around the tracks that are in place with out stopping. If i change the size of the timeline screen it will reset. If I attempt to scroll on the video side of the timeline it just continually rolls the video timeline around - as though the tracks are infinite v1- v?. Any fixes are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Ed

    Yes you must.
Jon Chappell has written a nifty little app that allows you to back up the prefs to a safe place then to trash the ones in FCP. You can then selectively restore those user settings that might be useful.

  • Audio Issues on Timeline

When I preview a clip in Viewer, both audio channels are present. When I move clip to timeline audio is added to only one audio track, thus only one channel is present. I've never had this issue before. Please help. Thanks.

Yes, track connection tabs for both channels are connected and both tracks are unlocked. Still haven't been able to figure out why only one channel or audio track is added to timeline.

  • Transition issues in timeline...

    hey now,
    i have two issues/questions here...
sometimes when i apply a transition to the project, i get a warning message indicating 'frames were dropped'.  sometimes when i try a different transition i don't get the message but at other times i do.  my question: should i keep trying different transitions until i don't get the message or will this be a problem when i try to burn the project to a disc?
#2 -  sometimes when i apply a transition in the timeline, it's really small (thin?).  that is, it's not the same size as others in the timeline that i've already put in there.  why i let it play to see what it looks like, the transition appears but for only a brief period of time.  why does this happen?  it's not that big a deal, i can eventually insert one that isn't like this but i AM curious about this.
    rsvp...

    yea,
i'm in china...  some sites are blocked!!
otherwise, i just remembered something.  when i get this 'warning', it's about frames that have been dropped.  it offers some suggestions when that box appears that i never tried (duh).  i have just been trying a different transition to see if it will apply - mostly because i didn't understand what the suggestions were saying!!  this project is finished so i'll come back if this occurs on my next project.
    thanks for your help!!

  • (GS70 2QE GTX 970M) MSI True Color Ghosting Issue

    Hi everyone,
I just found out about MSI True Color and decided to give it a go on my GS70 2QE. After some tweaking, the results are simply outstanding. I ususally work with 2 other IPS monitors, and now the GS70's monitor color is pretty close to them.
Unfortunately there are 2 issues that are bugging me alot:
    1) When dragging windows or scrolling on chrome, there is a clear redish ghosting effect. It's visible just by moving the mouse pointer from side to side.
    2) When the laptop boots up, it takes a few seconds to trigger my profile on MSI True Color, but just moments after that, it changes the color of the screen again. I have to manually go to the icon, and change the profile again in order for it to stick.
Has anyone else tried the MSI True Color on their laptop? Anyone with similar issues or with a solution for these problems?

  • X131E 3372-3FU Ghost Issues with 2.09 bios or higher

I contacted Lenovo tech support with an issue that our client had since bios revision 2.09 through the latest 2.52.  They are unable to use Symantec ghost to image their laptops using the latest solution suite 2.5.  I was onsite today to investigate the issue and found with putting everything in legacy mode I still was unable to boot to anything dos based it would just hang.  The laptops that have the previous bios version 1.05 work fine, but unfortunately there was no way to downgrade lower then 2.09 once 2.09 was on the systems.  Just seeing if there is a way to force a downgrade to 1.05 or if Lenovo is coming out with a fix so that this functionality is restored since the earlier 1.05 bios did not exhibit this issue.

They have a newer version coming out in a few months from symantec but had said to contact lenovo considering depending on bios version it would work fine. The initial bios release works great but every release since that version must have a flaw in the firmware or something for legacy was removed from it. I'm trying to get a solution for our client since they don't want to change from symantec and will work with our rep tomorrow.
