Ghosts and Pixilation on Big-Screen TV

Last weekend I brought home a 46" Samsung LCD TV.  I connected in-house coax to Verizon set-top box and then ran a coax patch cable from set-top box to TV.  Very dissapointing picture quality on almost all channels.  Unexpected ghosts and pixilation for such a well-reviewed TV and highly regarded FiOS service.  Checking connections and fine-tuning TV did not seem to help.  Then I removed the set-top box and asked the TV to search for channels directly off of the signal from the street.  This helped, but provided significantly fewer channels, no interactive guide, etc.  Do I need an upgraded box?  Upgraded firmware/software?  Other suggestions?

Frank, your post says you're using a coax cable from the STB to your TV.  This implies that you're not using the higher-quality signals that the STB can product, like (in increasingly improving quality) composite, S-Video, component and HDMI.  Your new LCD TV should accept the higher-quality imputs.  Suggest you try a component or HDMI connection to your TV from the STB.

  • Best Data rate and format for Big Screen Playback

I am a video producer supplying content for a tradeshow display consisting of 18 flat screens oriented vertically, 8 over 8. Very heavy duty Windows playback machine, with 3 graphics cards, 1 for each set of 6 monitors. The total pixel size is 3240x 1280 px. We have produced a number of full screen and smaller movies that the interactive programmer is trying to intergrate into a Flash program where some videos will play full screen, and others in smaller windows (those were produced in 1920x1080). All videos were mastered at the specified pixel count, square pixels, progressive, and output in Pro Res 422, 44.1K audio. Flash is being used to create the interface, and I am transcoding to .F4V at lower bit rates like 4, 6, and 9 Mbps. They are having trouble playing these movies back smoothly. We have done similar projects in the past with Director without issue. Of course they are blaming the video, I am offering to encode in any format at any data rate they suggest. Can anyone suggest a direction here?

Are you trying to burn a standard DVD or are you trying to put a QuickTime .mov file on DVD media?
A standard DVD doesn't worry about file size (only the duration).
A "data" DVD is limited to the type of media used. A single layer DVD is about 3.7 GB's.
In order to make a data DVD you need to keep the data rate low enough to not exceed the DVD media playback abilities. They can't handle the higher rates found in many of the preset options.
You can avoid all of these headaches by telling the viewer to "copy" the .mov file from the DVD to their Desktop. Then nearly any of the presets option will work.
H.264 is a great video codec and the "automatic" preset should work just fine. Use "multi-pass" for best quality (takes a very long time). Remove the check mark for "Audio" since your file has none. Leave it checked and you waste file size because a silent audio track would be added.

  • HDMI / Big screen

When i first got my E7 i was blown away by the HDMI out Big Screen app. Very simple to use and connect.
But a few months later, after downloading a lot of stuff from You Tube Downloader, I sat down to watch my library only to find that when I connected the HDMI to TV, and saw the Big screen app load on the tv, it suddenly went blank on my Sony TV but the E7 was still showing big screen app.
I tried to adjust all the HDMI settings on my Sony LCD and the best i could achieve was about 5 secs display on the TV before it went blank.
Does anybody know what i am doing wrong because it worked perfectly before?

Look on the back of your tv. does it have an audio in 3.5mm jack socket ? if so all you need to do is buy a long enough 3..5 mm male to male jack cable to connect from your mac book headphone socket to the tv

Thank you for the answer, I suppose the main thrust of my enquiry is to find out if 65 MBits is my ATV theoretical limit of reception.  If that is the case then I am happy as a Pig in Mud
I may have allowed myself to become a victim by listening to Fanbois posting elsewhere who always seem to go one better than everyone else. Now I have learnt two things Today; 65Mbit/s = Good enough and only read the apple forums.
    Many Thanks

  • When I had a PC I simply took the wire going to my monitor and connected to my big screen TV to watch Netflix movies...How do I take them from my IMAC and connect them to my TV now?

When I had a PC I simply took the wire going to my monitor and connected to my big screen TV to watch Netflix movies...How do I take them from my IMAC and connect them to my TV now?

    This could be problematic.
It will depend on what model of iMac you have.
You may want to post machine info.
blue apple > about this mac > more info button. Click on the hardware line. It has a little triangle in front of the work hardware.
    Leave out the serial number.
    Example:
    Machine Name: iMac
    Machine Model: PowerMac4,1
    CPU Type: PowerPC 750 (33.11)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 600 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.1.9f1
Most of the iMac's have sometype of video output port on the back.  You will problably need a converter.
The 'hollywood' industry has been making it more difficult to get video out over time to prevent copying.

Last night my iphone screen all of a sudden was solid blue and now it is black. I tried turning it on and off.  Still nothing appeared on the screen.  I put it on the charger and this morning it is totally black.  However, when I hit the on and off button, I did hear the text message signal go off. When I turned the volume on and off a big white bell flashed.  In the last week, there were some other display problems such as the screen blowing up large. The only way to fix it was to turn off the phone and then turn it back on.
What does all of this mean? It seems like I've had these problems since the iphone 4 upgrade.

just do reset, press home button and power butoon for a while untill you can see apple
    gud luck

  • I want to buy Apple TV for my grandchild so she can play videos and music from her Ipad on the family's big screen. Do I need anything else beside the Apple TV device. Also what is AirPlay? Is it an app, a service or a piece of hardware?

I want to buy an Apple TV for my grandchild so she can play content from her Ipad on her family's big screen TV. She has cable WiFi in her home does she need anything else beside the Apple TV. Also what is AirPlay. Is it an app, a service or a seperate hardware from the Apple TV?

Airplay is a wireless streaming protocol. It allows content to be pushed from the iPad through the Apple TV onto your connected HDTV.
If she wants to see the iPad displayed on the big screen and/or play games that involves mirroring. As long as it's an iPad 2 (or later) then you will be fine. More info on both has been referened below

  • PowerLine AV Network Kit and Samsung Big Screen

    Hello,
First of all I would like to apologize if I have posted this in the wrong section.
So I have the E-3000 and connected to this I have the Powerline AV Network Kit. One end to the router and the other end behind my Big screen. I have a 12 TB Seagate Nas Storage for my Media Server.  I have this finally set up and my computers can watch movies streaming from the Media Server. I also have 3 USB Ethernet Adapters ready for deployment.
Before I do something foolish, I'd figure I ask you pros for some advice.
My questions is this. Since my TV has HDMI, Internet and USB ports.... what would be the very bext possible way to connect to the router? I have one HDMI connection going to the big creen now as my yamaha controls the video and audio
    http://usa.yamaha.com/products/audio-visual/av-receivers-amps/rx/rx-v665_black__u/?mode=model .
I'd like to connect to my yahama using the hdmi4 socket . How can I do this using the Powerline AV Network Kit?

What is the model number of the Power line Networking kit?
You have Internet port on the big screen. I think it must be Ethernet port and you can use that port to connect to the router.

  • Hello, I was going to have my presentation on my macbook air. But when I putted it up on the big screen it wasn't a normal presentation. There was two pages at the time and a timer came up. How can I fix this as fast as posible? Thank's in advance.

Your MacBook is using the big screen as the Presenter Display, and the MacBook Air display as the Show display. Tap the 'x' key to swap them during the show.
Here is more information about using the Presenter Display.

I hover the mouse at the top but the menu will not appear. The only way to solve this is turn off the computer. Surely there is a better way. What am I doing wrong?

    What menu?

Solve what? What iMac do you have have? What operating system?
What EXACTLY is the problem you are having?

Are you simply trying to reduce the size of the window? Justy click the green button.

It appears what happened is the installer though it was looking at a empty drive and just went ahead and installed.
I of course am assuming here you didn't use Disk Utility to format the drive first before installing, that would wipe out your files and programs for sure.
So what to do, what to do.
Well there is hope for you as long as the drive wasn't Filevaulted.
I'll explain. When a hard drive writes data for the first time to a drive, it starts at the very top and works it's way down.
When OS X was installed the first time, it was at the top of the drive, unless you upgraded then the upgraded OS X could have been written elsewhere.
Now when you just reinstalled OS X, the new OS went on the top of the drive, overwriting any data that was there previously, so what was there you have lost forever which is about 8GB or so. If it was the previous OS there, then your more in luck because only the old OS X was overwritten.
The remaining space on the drive still can have a copy of your files, provided it's not overwritten yet.
It's because when a hard drive deletes data or reformats, it doesn't remove the data off the drive or overwrites it immediately, it's just made so it's SPACE is available for new files to be written there.
So technically one can recover the deleted data off a non-encrypted/scrubbed hard drive with special software.
The way it does this is it reads the 1's and 0's of the files themselves, and through a lot of figuring out, can tell what that file is and what it belongs too.
So what you will have to do is this:
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
or if you don't have the skills, then take it to a local PC/Mac tech and they can do a direct image of the drive and then you can run Data Rescue on it to rebuild your files.

Why are some of my songs ghosted and some are not?

    Hi smiilee,
Have you tried resetting your phone (hold down the Home and Power buttons a the same time and continue to hold until the Silver Apple appears). Once the Home screen comes back up, see if your Music is OK.
If it is not, then, have you sync'd your phone to an iTunes library on a computer? If so, then hook it up to the computer, uncheck the "Sync Music" option so that no music is sync'd and then sync the phone. This should delete everything on the phone. Then go back and re-check the "Sync Music" option, and select any other criteria you want on that screen, and then sync again. This should put back all of your music.
Let me know if you have any questions,
