Giant windows, sort of out of focus

I'm not quite sure what's wrong with my computer. I stopped using it for a minute so it was sleeping and I hit the power button to start using it again. I've done this plenty of times before with no problem. When I turned it back on it had reverted to my old desktop picture and all of the windows and applications were way too big. I restarted it and my newer desktop picture came back but the windows remained large and slightly out of focus. I've tried just dragging them to make them smaller again but it just sort of crops the image intead of fixing the problem. Someone told me it might be a resolution problem but I'm not sure that it is and also not sure how to fix it if that's the case. Any ideas? Thanks!

Zap the PRAM:
1. Press and hold the COMMAND + OPTION + P + R keys during startup
2. Continue holding down all four keys until you hear your Mac reboot four times
3. Release COMMAND + OPTION + P + R

i'm on a mac G4 400 mhz running 10.3.9. when i scroll down the page of the address book window the anames will go out of focus and then skew off the page! wacky. can i reinstall a new addressbook from mac? i recently bought a 15.2 powerbook which has tiger 10.4 something but it will not install into the old G4. any ideas? or solutions?

Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I would recommend that you check out Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther, by Kurt Lang.
Another possibility is to Quit Address Book, find the com.apple.AddressBook.plist in the ~Library/Preferences Folder. Drag it to the Desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Attempting to install a newer version as you have discovered will not work.

Resolution
Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
Check for .dll files

2. If you find QTMovie.DLL, or any other .dll files, move them to the desktop.
3. Reboot your computer.
Note: Depending on your operating system, you may only have one of the listed paths.
Uninstall and reinstall iTunes
1. Uninstall iTunes and all of its related components.
2. Reboot your computer. If you can't uninstall a piece of Apple software, try using theMicrosoft Program Install and Uninstall Utility.
3. Re-download and reinstall iTunes 11.1.4.

HT1296 whenever I try to sync my phone with itunes, it prompt with a window saying that this computer is not authorised. Although I again authorise my computer through store option but again while sync it shows the same window. I am unable to sort it out

Click button/link in out of focus window to bring focus AND select button

example: firefox and mail are both open; mail is in front and ff is in back, out of focus but visible. there's a website open in ff, and I'm reading a mail message. I want to click on a link in the open ff page, but mail has focus. I must click the ff link TWICE (once to bring ff to focus, and once to then click the link). on a windows machine, all the buttons and links in all visible apps are always "live", so this annoyance doesn't happen. can it be fixed in tiger?

I believe this is considered correct behavior for Mac apps, despite the few that don't behave this way. It would all too easy to try to click on a mostly-hidden window to bring it to the top and accidentally click on something important - like an "Okay" or "Cancel" button. Things like buttons and links are only SUPPOSED to be "clickable" in the frontmost window, for user safety reasons.
For consistency, the rule applies whether or not the second window is mostly hidden, mostly visible, or whatever. Think of the confusion that "sometimes it takes one click, sometimes it takes two clicks" would engender!
By contrast, more than once I've done something unwanted (but so far not terribly destructive) in Windows when I was trying to change window focus but instead did something in that mostly hidden window.

Can I set a window out of focus permanently?

The reason I am trying to do this is because I want the Title Bar at the top of the screen to be set to grey permanently. I have tried 1000 other things to do this and nothing has worked so far. So I am curious if it is possible to set a window to look as if it is permanently out of focus? Any other suggestions on how to make the title bar grey are also welcome.

Two things I would try.
1st, set the next focusable item to itself
2st, listen to the window event, I think there is an event for focus about to lose. Set up an eventhandler to set the focus to itself again.

How to pause stage/swf with audio when a new tab is opened/ out of focus in browser

I have created a container in Flash Professional CS5 for my project’s CBT. I’ve been able to script many of the features we require using AS3, but there are a couple of things I’m still trying to work out.
I would like the swf presently playing in one tab to pause and go silent when another swf is opened in a new tab (the sound is inside this externally loaded swf which is loaded inside a movie clip from buttons nested a movie clip down). I’ve tried :

This function is present when I publish the CBT with Captivate, so obviously there must be code available. You can set the Captivate button to open url in new window and pause movie.
Is there something I can add to the html file that is similar to the “has Priority” for mobile devices or is there javascript that can be added to the flash itself?

You would send a command to Flash from JavaScript when window.onblur event occurs.

"iPod not recognized by computer or itunes." There are hundreds of man-hours being wasted on this. Please sort it out or take the iPods back!

There are many reasons as to why this is happening. Take a look at this article (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61771) if you've tried all this then change the driver letter. after that then its probably an issue with your computer. Good Luck!

Image files with large pixel dimensions display out of focus in a Bridge viewer?

I Create image files with pixel dimensions 2048x1365. When I display these files from Bridge on my Mac, either by pressing the space bar or in a slideshow, the images are out of focus. If I left click or click/hold and move the images slightly on screen they display in sharp focus. Unfortunately, although landscape-orientation images display correctly with no change in position or size, portrait-orientation files are enlarged and display with top and bottom off the screen. The pixel dimensions of my monitor are 2450x1600 so, yes, if portrait images are displayed at 100% they should display off screen, but this does not excuse the out of focus display of landscape files on this large screen. Nor does this explain why the portrait files are out of focus when they fit on screen. When the same files open in a Camera Raw window they are in focus. When they open in Photoshop at 100% the files are in focus.

Can I force Quicktime to remain in fullscreen when it's out of focus

I've got a bit of a question. I recently got hold of a new LCD and hooked it up as my secondary display, and among other things, I like to keep work on one screen and video on the other. Trouble is, any time Quicktime loses focus, it drops back to windowed mode. Is there any way to lock it in fullscreen mode when it's out of focus and I'm typing and/or clicking around on the other display? Alternatively, can it be done with VLC? And one last thing just in case someone knows, can you lock a Hulu player in fullscreen?

Keyboad input when out of focus

I wrote a Java application to take a series of screen shots of the desk top when a key is pressed that I then turn into a gif animation later. The problem is that I cannot use the program when it is out of focus or minimized.
I am looking for source that will look to the keyboard (while in the background) periodically and see what if any keys are being pressed. Doesn't necessarily have to be a listener of sorts, but that would be nice.
I am sure a C++ attachment to the Java could be written to handle it, but I am trying to write the program for PC's and Mac's.

I recently moved from Linux to Mac and miss a couple of things. If someone can point out how to do these things in OS X, I would appreciate it.
1) When one window of an application receives focus, raise all windows of that application.
I use a statistical package that has separate windows for output, commands and variables. If these windows get buried below other windows, I need to give focus to all windows separately. The optimal case would be that when I focus on one window, all of these windows are brought to front.
2) Force all windows of an application to stay on the same virtual desktop (space).
This is a problem that occurs particularly with Word 2008. The software has the main window and a tool box window. Sometimes the toolbox and the main window get separated to different spaces. It is very annoying to give focus to the application and to realize that the first thing to do is to hunt after the main window in another space.
3) When moving a mouse cursor over a window, make all windows that cover it transparent.
This is my favourite feature of compiz fusion. The idea is that you can peek behind windows without shifting the focus. Also, it enables you to read a web page on full screen while typing notes on a text editor that is above the web page. Anything similar possible in OS X?

Movie clips are out of focus

I imported my movie from tape into Imovie 8. The clips are sharp and normal in the bottom screen. When I place the clips in the upper window to make the movie they are not as sharp as below. Kind of out of focus.

As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

When a photo is viewed in iPhoto 9.6, why is it sharp then immediately goes out of focus?

When viewing photos (full window), the photo initially is sharp then immediately goes a little out of focus. Thanks to some previous forum responses, a fix is to slightly shift the zoom button to the right, clearing the photo right up. When going through 100+ photos, obviously this is an untenable fix. I assume this is a bug that needs repair.

As a follow-up, I found that if I hold the left mouse button down while on the zoom button, no matter where it is on the slider, the same effect happens, that is that the photo goes out of focus. Once released, the photo sharpens. This DOES NOT happen when the zoom slider is all the way to the left. There as stated earlier the photo stays out of focus.

Why is my cropped photo out of focus

I started with a large jpg, 4.6 M. Fully enlarged in the iPhoto window the photo was in sharp focus. I cropped just the face, but the resulting photo was out of focus. I can't figure out why.

What is the pixel size of teh cropped photo? No matter how large the original photo is if you crop too small you will end up with pixelization (not a focus issue)
And it is possible that the are you are corpping to is not really in good focus and that becoms more pronounced as it becomes the only remainin gportion of the photo
