.gif creation plugin for iPhoto?

Does one exist? I'd like to be able to highlight a selection of photos in iPhoto, right click them and choose "create .gif" (or something along these lines). Is there anything out there that does this?

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. There's a freeware image editor, Seashore, that can convert jpgs to gifs. You'll have to save them to the desktop and then import as a new file if you want them in iPhoto.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

Missing Email plugin for iPhotos

I have a Macbook with OSX v10.5.8 and I used to be able to easily attach photos from my iPhoto library to an email and send it but I have not done it in awhile and when I recently tried it my email message displays 'missing plugin'. Can anyone suggest a fix for this?

How to get the "Missing Plugin" for iPhoto 9.1.1 eMailing??

OK with the improvements in iPhoto (iLife'11) version 9.1.1 we are back to being able to eMail using MAIL or another eM program. Great. But I can also eMail within iPhoto- and this has been improved as well; so I tried this and sent a corkboard eM with 4 photos to myself...
...and got just the corkboard, with a message stating in the middle of the corkboard: *"Missing Plugin".*
Can anyone assist with this? (I tried another theme, a gray-background one with 3 pics and that worked fine - but not the "corkboard")

Does anyone know of a JPEG 2000 plugin for importing into iPhoto 6

I was quites surprised when I learned that iPhoto 6 had not been designed with jpg 2000 format in it. With that said, if anyone knows of a method or plugin for importing them into iPhoto I would greatly appreciate it.

What do you want to do with your .jp2 files?
They import into iPhoto just fine for me. When choosing export leave the option set for the format as "Original".
If you want to convert a .jpg (or other format) to .jp2 you can do that with Preview.

Animated gif picture support for iphone 4s or iphoto app

i love it to use animated gif pictures in the imessage chat, but it is still not possible to view these pictures in the camera roll or in iphoto.
would bw great if apple would make it work to play gif pictures in original size.

It's not likely that Apple will add gif animation support into iPhoto, not even the desktop application supports it.
As far as viewing animated gifs saved in your camera roll, there has been a work around to select the gif and share it using the "Email Photo" option. The gif will play while in the email compose box and when you're done viewing it you can simply press cancel to quit the compose email mode.
Search the app store there are lots of apps that allow you create animated gifs and you may even find some that will let you view them more easily.

Setup issues: Apache plugin for Weblogic

Hi,
I've spent couple of days without success trying to configure apache plugin for weblogic. I've configured in accordance with bea documentation and it works fine in windows environment but fails in Solaris 9.
Plugin log file says it's processed the request successfully but I see error message in browser saying it can't find the jsp file. It works fine if I access the weblogic box directly without going through apache.
I'm using Weblogic 8.1 SP2, single server.

Yes it is IBM Http Server, but it works fine from Windows accessing the same weblogic server I'm trying to connect from Solaris.
I see 500 error in the apache access log file.
I've also tried with by setting "MaxRequestsPerChild" to 0 in the apache config file but no good.

Panasonic DMC-FZ8 and Leopard - third party plugins for use of RAW?

Hello!
I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ8 camera, and frequently find myself in situations that require the use of RAW image format. Unfortunately, even as of the 10.5.4 update, this camera's RAW format is not supported by OS X natively - only through Photoshop Elements 4 in my case. (Leopard's formats as of today: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1475) While I can read and edit the raw images, it's a hassle to go through photoshop when importing images - Ideally, i'd like to simply import the images into iPhoto ('08) to browse and touch up - instead of opening in PS, editing, saving as JPG (or TIFF), and so on.
Is there any plugin for OS X that will allow me to view/use my RAW format - at least in iPhoto? Ideally, I'm thinking of something similar to the way the perian plugin works for Quicktime. (See here for Perian: http://perian.org/)

I have not seen any but some of the codes that some of us have been receiving in this forum have worked for me as a plugin. I copy the code and paste it in a snippet and it does what I wanted. Search the forum for the things you want to accomplish. Chances are someone has asked for it and someone has helped. If you really do not find anything ask and someone will help.

Making own Templates for iPhoto

in iPhoto `08, when you export pictures as a website, you can choose either a default template or one with bordered images.
I wondered if there wont be more templates with the time. As long I figured out where those Templates are stored. Depending on the localization you can find it i.e. in:
Photo.app/Contents/Plugins/HTMLExporter.iPhotoExporter/Contents/Resources/German .lproj/Templates
I tried to make an own template by modifying a copy of one of those templates. It works pretty fine. But there is one problem:
iPhoto uses as variable stuff like <ipt_photo>, or <ipt_links>.
I can change any html synthax I want in those templates, but when I set those iphoto synthax just on another place, iPhoto doesn't translate them anymore, when it proceedes to generate the html files.
Anyone any idea???

Why not use iWeb where you have 24 frames and 26 customizable page themes to use? Much more flexible than the limited web export from iPhoto and no hacking required.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. No there isn't.
Albums, slideshows etc are virtual entities, they don't exist in the finder. In reality, they are instructions for iPhoto to display photos together.
Further: It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
but it is a laborious process because I have to actually open iPhoto...
but iPhoto is your Organiser, that's what it's for. For the record There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
However, Rolls in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder.
You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window.
Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.
But again the key is to interact with your photos via the iPhoto Window.

Facebook exporter for iPhoto 11 problem!

I previously had installed the Facebook exporter for iPhoto and it worked fine. It always showed up as a tab in File Export. Now with Iphoto 11 the tab for facebook has disappeared. I went to the download page for it again to reinstall it and when I go through the installation process and it asks where to install I have the exclamation mark on my Mac hard drive with the following error. "Facebook exporter for iPhoto can't be installed on this disk. A newer version of this software already exists on this disk.
I went to plugins and removed it yet I still get this error on reinstallation. Why won't the exporter work anymore or install?
I like this much better than the built in one on iPhoto as it lets me caption each photo before I upload.

I found the problem
It seems the version of facebook exporter found on the applesite is an older one.
I downloaded a newer version on versiontracker and that fixed it.

To add additional columns to a Finder (folder) window, with that window open and active open the View Options for it. You can do that by pressing Command-J or by selecting View Options from the View menu in the main menubar.

What happened to facebook exporter for iphoto?

I keep getting an error when trying to share photos from iphoto to facebook. I have tried all the common things, but now I see that there is no longer facebook exporter for iphoto. I have had this Macbook Air since May, and was able to share photos via iphoto exporter to facebook, and now all of a sudden it is not working. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I tried to download the plugin again from Cnet and when I try to install it I get and error saying "It can't be opened because of an inidentified developer my security preferences only allow installation of only apps from your Mac app store and identified developers"
How do I turn off that security so I can reinstall it again. As for why my original install disappeared I am mystified about that. Why was it there one month and then poof gone the next month?
I like that 3rd party plugin as it lets me caption all the photo's and rearrange the order and write a discription all in one application. It works better than the share button way of doing it to facebook.
Is it not compatible with Iphoto 9.4.1?

Export photos keeping creation date in iPhoto 11

How do I export photos in iPhoto 11 and keep the creation date for the exported photo?

There are two kinds of metadata involved when you consider jpeg or other image file.
One is the file data. This is what the Finder shows. This tells you nothing about the contents of the file, just the File itself.
The problem with File metadata is that it can easily change as the file is moved from place to place or exported. Emiled, uploaded etc.
Photgraphs have also got both Exif and IPTC metadata. The date and time that your camera snapped the Photograph is recorded in the Exif metadata. Regardless if what the file date says, this is the actual time recorded by the camera.
Photo applications like iPhoto, Aperture, Lightroom, Picasa, Photoshop etc get their date and time from the Exif metadata.
When you export from iPhoto to the Finder new file is created containing your Photo (and its Exif). The File date is - quite accurately - reported as the date of Export. However, the Photo Date doesn't change.
The problem is that the Finder doesn't work with Exif.
So, your photo has the correct date, and so does the file, but they are different things. To sort on the Photo date you'll need to use a photo app.
