GIF Img in Photoshop CS3 Extended

Hello. I have searched and searched for an answer to my question and have tried many given solutions to no avail. My problem is the famous white line around my Gif image. I run a website for moms and women in general basically. I am making glitter graphics with my members children's names. I guess for assistance I will need to explain how I made it so I will do so now...
First I made my basic design. I made it on a transparent background. It included a small pink text line with a 2pt stroke in white. Underneath that I made the name text line. It consist of a patterned stoke. To the left of all that was an image.. edited, no special effects.
I then, satisfied, duplicated it 3 times. I added a different pattern overlay to all 3 saved them as PNGs and closed them. I them reopened them and placed all 3 together as layers and put that through the animation feature. I saved it as "Save for Web and Devices" as a GIF. Now it looks absolutely beautiful on a white background. Just as I wanted. Some of you may not think much of it but it is exactly what a wanted. UNTIL I saw it on a page with a dark background... and there it was! The dreaded yet famous white line.

If anyone has a solution or perhaps an idea of how to fix it I am up to it. I posted the idea of making glitter name graphics on my website and immediately got 50 request. It has been a week and I still cant get it right.
Note- before anyone gives me this solution, I was told that it was showing a white outline because I was using a patterned stroke and that the border needed to be solid. SO now there is actually a stroke around that too. I also added a stroke to the crown, both still have a white line.

You cannot have partial transparency in a GIF. It is all or nothing. However if there is no antialiasing of the edges you will not have a problem. Except that this leaves "jaggies" on the edges, and you customers will not like this either.
You might prepare the web safe palette on your order page and ask the purchase to choose one of these for the matte color. They should be close enough to any background to work correctly.

Photoshop CS3 Extended won't recognize QuickTime installation

Hi,
using Photoshop CS3 Extended, I tried opening an animated GIF today without success. After some forum searching I found I had to import it as video into layers.
When I tried that I got this message:
"Could not complete the video frames to layers command because QuickTime version 7.1 or later is required."
I have QuickTime installed, the newest version (checked for updates and found none), and it works normally. This computer is just about 2 months old, so it's not an out-of-date installation of QuickTime, either.
I am running Windows XP Pro.
How does Photoshop determine whether QuickTime is installed or not?
Any other ideas?
I'd rather avoid re-installing programs (especially QuickTime) if there's an easier fix for this.

There was a problem with QT 7.4 and the Digital rights Management segment that conflicted with After Effects and Premier. There was an almost immediate update from Apple to 7.4.1 (6?) which fixed this problem, there may infact have been another update since then although from memory this was just an itunes update.
I'd update to the latest version which will more than likely fix the problems. If as you said you have the latest version then try uninstalling Quicktime and reinstalling it rather than using the apple updater.

Can't unlock background layer using Photoshop CS3 Extended

I installed CS3 a few days ago (though I'm an experienced CS2 and Photoshop 6 user) and opened Photoshop CS3 Extended today for the first time.
The problem I'm having is with unlocking the background layer. I read in the documentation and on the Net about double-clicking and renaming the layer (which is what I did in other versions), or creating a new file with a transparent background, but those things aren't working for me in this version.
I opened a tiff file (a logo I want to use as the basis for a new image) but I can't unlock the background layer so I can copy, manipulate or add to it. Everything on the Layers drop-down menu is grayed out, as are the word Lock: and the symbols following it in the Layers window.
I tried creating a new image but when File|New dialog box opens the option to use transparent in the Background Contents dropdown is grayed out, too.
I'd appreciate some help with this.

The issue has to do with the mode that you are in. If it is a TIFF or GIF file that you are opening, when you click on "Image -- Mode" you are likely to see "Indexed Color..." with a checkmark next to it. Be sure to select "RGB Color." Once you have done that, you can simply double-click the background layer in the layers palette to unlock the image.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extend Error

I had to re install Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extend but now every time I try to start it, it errors out withe the following:
"Could not load the user measurement data point presets file because the file name was not valid."
and "Could not load the user measurement scale presets file because the file name was not valid."
Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bridge not functioning in PhotoShop CS3 Extended

I deactivated Photoshop CS3 on a computer I was no longer using and installed it (CS3) another computer. I activiated CS3 on the new computer. However, when trying to use Bridge, I get a message that says that Adobe no longer supports Bridge Home and Bridge does not function on the new computer. Is there anything I can do to get Bridge to function as part of CS3 Extended?

How to open animated .GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer

Q: Since ImageReady is long gone from Photoshop, how can I open animated GIF files in Photoshop CS3 and newer?
A: File -> import-> video to layers.
In the dialogue box type "*.*" to show all file types.
Select your GIF file and which frames to import.
They will now be available in your animation palette.

curt y, sorry for the late reply, I tried that but I doesn't work. I have to choose at least two files in the Load Layers window in order for the OK button to be available and then some action script uses the different files to make layers and merges them but not from the frames of the gif file. I can undo through the script to see what it did but it never accessed the frames of the gif file, just the first frame. Choosing "make frames from layers" in the animation palette only puts the original files into layers - that is only the first frame of the gif file.
I guess I'm out of luck with the 64 bit version of Photoshop as Zeno suggested :-(
What program would you people suggest for opening each frame from gif files?

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended on Windows XP Professional

Topic: Selecting
I have been using Photoshop Elements 4 until I just purchased Photoshop CS3 Extended. In Photoshop Elements 4 there is a selection brush, enabling you to make pixel by pixel selection (if desired). There seems to be NO counterpart in CS3 - - which seems impossible for so powerful a program. In that most of my work involves selecting very precise points of 1 or 2 pixels, how can this be done?

Thanks so much for responding . . but, unfortunately does NOT work again! I did exactly as you suggested in that I made a selection fir so that I could get a quick mask. When I double-clicked on quick mask in the tools pallet, NO options appear that say "Paint on selections" nor "paint on mask". The options is get are "Color indicates Mask Area or Selected area" and you have to chose one. The only thing you are actually choosing is whether you want the color to appear on the mask you chose or inversely to appear on the remainder of the object. The "black" brush remains the same and does not change.
If I do not learn how to make minute selections (so that I will be able to act on only tiny tiny areas) I will not be able to use this program after spending a million dollars for it. It looks like Adobe could make something so fundamental (available in Elements) available here.
Could you help me further . . . PLEASE !

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended Trial

Hi guys, I've recently downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended. When I select the trial period for 30 days instead of buying the product, it says that Adobe cannot continue and it's having trouble loading the trial. I reinstalled it and restarted my computer, like it said, and nothing worked. Please help, I cannot afford Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended right now, and I do not support piracy at all.

I've tried to install the program from a different directory, I think my windows installer is crashing every time i try to install it, maybe I find a working hotfix for it.
I followed these steps when i tried to install ps:

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended Activation Problem

Hi all, hoping someone can help me.
I have a legitimate hard copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended which was only recently taken out of its sealed package.
On installing and trying to activate I get an error. Now i am left with a window telling me "Registration Unsuccessful"
Any ideas how i can go about solving this? I legally own this copy and I need to use it and can't do with it deactivating.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended freezes on startup under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit - No splash screen

I installed my licensed copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended today as part of my install a bunch of software after a reinstall of Windows (due to viruses). I did a completely fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I've used Photoshop CS3 Extended for quite a while now so I know what to expect on startup but it was previously installed under Windows XP Professional (32-bit). Figured I would give Windows 7 a chance this time around.
Google searches aren't turning up anything. When I attempt to start the application, I get a window with the title "Adobe Photoshop CS3" (no "Extended" - I seem to recall the title changes later) and the toolbar appears. However, no splash screen appears and no Product Activation wizard appears - the application simply freezes on an empty frame and a toolbar. I've tried running Photoshop as Administrator (right-click, "Run As Administrator"), but nothing changed there. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I tried upgrading to CS3 10.0.1. Nothing works. The application simply freezes before it gets anywhere.
I tried calling Adobe Support since this technically falls under installation issues but their phone support systems are down today. Go figure.
Edit: I hooked into Photoshop with the Visual Studio debugger and every single thread is executing some variation of WaitForSingleObject() or WaitForMultipleObjects(). The main thread is "executing" somewhere in AdobeLM_libFNP.dll (at address 09619d81 - if I had debugging symbols for CS3, I could provide a function). There are nine threads "running" at the point the freeze occurs - but all of them are technically suspended due to the functions they are executing - and one thread is in a suspended state.

And, according to the Event Viewer, the "Binary" data translates to a zero-terminated Unicode string of "Cross-thread".
My Visual Studio analysis was far more informative. All threads are hung inside of WaitForSingleObject() and WaitForMultipleObjects() calls and the DLL in question appears to be FlexNet-related. I did forget to mention that I also even manually started the FlexNet service in case, for some strange reason, Photoshop was waiting for it to start. That also did not work.
(And there is nothing in the Action Center control panel either despite the message saying there might be more information there.)
Edit: The timestamp above might be a little odd-looking. I didn't originally see anything in Event Viewer until I clicked the first button to send an Error Report. Mostly I just skipped that part of killing a process.

Problem Reading Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended In Windows

I have Windows 7 and Photoshop CS3 Extended; can't read .psd file; error says not a supported file type; need to work with layers. When installed, received a Successful message upon installation. A solution to reading .psd files in Windows?

Thanks to both of you for responding. The files I am referring to are loaded to my C drive from ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS3 "CLASSROOM IN A BOOK" tutorial. On the cover, it says "The official training workbook from Adobe Systems". I don't know what to do at this point. I'm ok with Html. Just need photoshop knowledge added and understand usde of .psd files provides a means to work with layering. Any suggestions?

Error "Licensing for this product has stopped working" when starting Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended- XP Pro AMD; 2GB RAM

I have exhausted all known options thus far.
I started the Flexnet Licensing Service and restarted the system but the message continues to come up when lanching PS CS3 extended
After restarting computer the Flexnet Licensing Service stops again and goes into Manual mode. This also happens after a few minutes without restarting.
I also downloaded the Flexnet Licensing Recovery Kit from Adobe Support but the file stops after saying "please wait for a few moments.. ?"
I changed the setting as discribed for the Flexnt folder but the message continues to come up when PS Extended CS3 is launced.

I downloaded the clean Script file and followed the instructions from what the Clean Script read Me file described. The first step said to deactivate. Although I was not able to deactivate because of my original message, I followed the remaining steps.
After using the Clean Script and uninstalling Photoshop CS3 Extended and re-installing it I re-booted my computer. I also deleted the CS3 Application data files.
When I installed PS CS3 Extended the installer does not ask for the serial number on all attemps. I bought a registered copy of PS CS3 Extended. Is there another way to approch this licensing error.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended installed but not working

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended was added to my computer when I bought it in Thailand.
Now (I am no longer in Thailand) I want to use it but I can't seem to open/do anything.
Even when asking for help with the 'Help' button it states that "There was an error in initializing the Adobe Help application. You may need to re-install the applicaiton and the Help componen".
How do I do this? Or am I missing something?

Haha... I like the honesty!
I was in bad need for a computer and went to one of those fancy, big shopping malls recommended to me by a couple of friends. I didn't even know I had Adobe Photoshop until today. I am not sure I really got screwed or things just work differently. The computer is a little strange... (I can write in Thai สกร่ฟส กส่ฟกส า่ฟส ่ if I would like to) but so far it's ben okay.
Anyways, what would you suggest I do Mylenium?
