GIF in captivate

I am trying to use a GIF file on one of my slides in
captivate3. when i view the project at the timeline all seems well
but when i publish it i get aliasing at the gif image borders and
the GIF has a transparent back ground (i tried it with 2 other
GIF's that i made in fireworks and photoshop which gave me same
results) but when i preview it it places a black background to the
gif and that is not the project background i checked. please help
here is the gif i'm planning to use
http://www.gifs.net/image/Creatures_and_Cartoons/Pokemon/Sleeping/7614
this is placed over an image for the duration it is shown...
Please Help
Thanks in advance

Hi ksugra
Unfortunately that's often the way an animated .GIF comes
into Captivate. And unfortunately as well, there is no way I'm
aware of to prevent it. You may wish to simply screen capture the
static image and use that instead.
Definitely I'd ask that you report the behavior to the
Captivate development team so they can investigate why it happens.
You may do so by
clicking
here and completing the form you should find there.
Cheers... Rick

  • Animated GIFs in Captivate 2 or 3

I have 31 lessons (PowerPoint) that contain animated GIFs. If
I import these into Captivate 2 or Captivate 3, will these
animations within the animated GIFs be maintained?
Thanks for any replies! All the best with your own projects.
    Dean

    Hi Dean
To import an animated .GIF and retain the animation
properties, try clicking Import > Animation... and pointing at
    the .GIF.
Captivate may munge it when it comes in. So don't be too
surprised if that happens. For example, I have a small animated
dancing stick man. The background is transparent when I drop him on
an HTML page. But when he comes into Captivate, the background is
    black.

  • Animated gif within Captivate movie?

I'm trying to insert an animated gif into a Captivate movie,
but when I do, the gif doesn't animate -- it just shows the first
frame. Is there a trick to getting these animated gifs to actually
play within the Captivate movie, without having to do a "rough
recreate" of the gif in Flash? I've looked around for a setting
within the app to address this, but couldn't find it, and according
to my search of the archives no one else has asked this question.
    Thanks in advance!
    Maureen

    Hi all
In addition to fellow ACE Steve's good advice, note that you
may notice that the gif looks just dandy if viewed on a web page
before importing. Then after importing it may appear to have had a
triple shot of espresso. This is because the frame rate of
Captivate is normally 30 FPS. It's not uncommon at all to see .GIF
files with a frame rate of 10. The answer? Either slow Captivate
down or speed up the .GIF before bringing it into Captivate.

  • Animated .gif in Captivate 7  - white splotches?

    Hello,
I have an animated .gif that works perfectly when openened in an IE web broswer.  When I import it as an animation into Captivate 7, the animation has tiny "blinking" white splotches moving over it, kind of like its electrified.
Does anyone have experience with this?
    Thank you!

Open your animated gif in Photoshop or some other graphics editor that can create these type of files and check the delay value.  It must be greater than zero otherwise you will encounter problems in Cp output.

  • Animated .gif makes captivate crash

    hello,
I have an animated .gif that I would like to use in my Captivate project, but unfortunately, it is making both my Captivate 6 and 7 crash on import.   The .gif plays just fine in my web broswer.  I can import other .gifs, and they animate fine, but this one won't.  I would very much like to use it because there is no other animation that I know of right that fits what I want to explain so perfectly.
Can anyone help me use this .gif in my project?

    Hi Lieve,
I just dragged and dropped the .gif from here to my desktop.

  • Animated .gif files in Captivate - why doesn't it work?

    OS:                         XP
    Captivate Version:      3
I was e-mailed an animated .gif that I want to use in a project I'm working on.
I saved the .gif to a drive.  I then clicked Insert - Animation and selected it.  I received a message stating This is not an animated GIF file or file in use.  If I click Insert - Image, it brings in the image but the file is not animated.
Just for testing purposes, I moved the .gif file by itself on to the web server.  When I access it through Internet Explorer on the web server, it works.
How do I get the file to animate in Captivate?
    Your help is appreciated.  Thanks.

I wasn't able to open your GIF animation in Photoshop and nothing appeared in Captivate when I inserted it -- the same experience that you had. I tried an experiment with a very simple GIF animation that I created from scratch in Photoshop CS4. When I tried to insert this simple animation into Captivate 4, a message appeared that Captivate was converting. It never finished converting and eventually hung Captivate and had to force it to quit.
Since Lilybiri is able to insert Photoshop animated GIFs into Captivate without any problems, it may be that there are some version incompatibilities. It would be interesting to know which versions of Photoshop and Captivate Lilybiri is using and which versions you are using. It would also be interesting to know if Lilybiri is using transparency in the GIF, and which settings are being used when saving the GIF.

I can convert the GIF to a SWF and it works, but increases my process time. Anyone else experience this and if so, do you know how i may resolve this issue. The help desk was no help whatsoever.
Thank you in advance for any infor.
    Mike

I ran into the same problem awhile ago and also had to convert the GIF into a SWF to make it work. However, today I believe I found the solution. When you finish creating your animated GIF in Photoshop and then "Save for Web & Devices" - turn off the Dither. Turning Dither off allowed me to import the GIF into Captivate without it crashing.

  • My animated gif keeps pausing in captivate and flash

Hi guys, thanks for your help.
I made an animated gif in Photoshop CS4 and inserted it as an animation into captivate 6. The animation works (I played it several times by opening it with internet explorer and safari). But when I open it in Captivate the animation goes black for a split second-several times, before it reappears-several times. It gives it almost a "reloading" or pause look when I play it. The same in flash, but in Adobe Flash CS4 Professional the timeline shows black dots once in a while, as you can see in the screen shot below.
See those black dots? I will insert a picture of what happens, when the player lands on one of those black dots:
It's the same animation, but only shows a little. Like I said, it plays fine when I open it with an internet browser, it plays fine when I play it in photoshop, but it just won't work with flash or captivate.
Any thoughts? Thanks so much!! I really appreciate your help guys!
    Nat

No problem. Building a simple animation in Flash isn't that bad. You could save each "frame" as an image from PhotoShop and then import these into Flash and place one frame at the time on a keyframe in the flash timeline (press F6 to insert a keyframe).
If you want your animation to loop then you don't have to do anything as this is the default behavior. If you want it to stop at the last frame you insert a command in ActionScript to stop it. Select the last keyframe and hit F9 and type stop() in the ActionScript window.
    Good luck!

  • I am having major issues importing Animated gif's into Adobe Captivate

    Hi everyone
Captivate 7 (64 bit) keeps crashing when i import animate gifs into flash.
It's a serious workflow issue for us as the project requires animated gifs.
I don't have any files to supply for this query as i can't even import gif's into a blank doc.
Has any one found a solution for this issue ?
Adobe ??  Have you got a fix for this bug ?
    Thanks in advance
    Nick

How were the GIF's created? Which version of 7 do you use, you can see the complete version number under Help, About Captivate.
I have been using animated GIF's in 7, they were created with Photoshop. And I know that each frame in the animation has to have a duration that is not 0secs.

  • Animated GIF. problems in Captivate

I have been trying to bring in an Animated GIF. into my
    Captivate presentation.
When I import the animation using Insert> Animation it
converts the animated gif to a swf file.
In the preview screen it shows my animated gif with multiple
colors flashing over and over. It is doing this to all of the
animated gifs that I am bringing in. My fps is set to 10 within
    Captivate.
Is there frame restrictions or file size restrictions that is
causing this error when bringing in an animated gif. Any
    suggestions?

Hi mikeygilbert23_nap and welcome to our community
Unfortunately, there are a few different methods used to
create animated .GIFs. One would think all of them would be created
simply using different images. Largely this is true. But some
animation programs allow you to choose different methods for the
way the screen is painted between frames. Sounds like you may be
    seeing this behavior.
Not sure what to advise as to how to work past it though.
Sorry. Hopefully one of the others has a clue.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Animated Gif files in Captivate

I have created an animated GIF file in Photoshop that i want to use in my captivate file.
The file wont preview in any of the preview modes other than the HTML5 output preview. All other previews just show the first frame of the GIF file.
If i chose to SWAP the animation with another GIF from the library the preview shows the animation playing.. see attached
Is there something im doing wrong here.
I guess i could upload my final file to the LMS with HTML5 output as this preview shows the animation but i also read there are limitations with this output as some transitions / effects dont work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Darren

    Hi Darren,
Yes, you can verify whether your GIF would fucntion correctly on HTML5 platform by Window--HTML5 Tracker Pod.
I am not an expert on Photoshop, but still would like to make a recommendation.
Set the 'delay' value for each of your Frame to 0.01 or some value if it shows as 0, this can be done using the animation frame Window. Save it as GIF again for Web Devices and import in Captivate, see, if you are abale to preview this time.
    Thanks,
    Anjaneai

  • Captivate 7 not recognizing animated GIF's?

I've used photoshop CS6 to create an animated GIF from a video clip. using timeline I have a file saved in .GIF format and it is clearly an animation. When I insert > animation CV7 Tells me "file is not an animated GIF file". It is starting to become a bit ridiculous when you consider that the file was made using PS and that it IS an animated GIF. I am just wondering if there is some kind of "special" step I need to get them imported or if I am somehow saving it incorrectly?
Has anyone had any issues with animated GIF's in Captivate 7?
    Thanks in advance.
    Jon
the image in question is here:

    Hi Jon,
I think this is because of the delay value you set for each Frame within Photoshop.
Please go to Photoshop, open the source file, Could you please set the 'delay' value for each of your Frame to 0.01 or some value if it shows as 0, this can be done using the animation frame Window. Save it as GIF again for Web Devices and import in Captivate, see, if you are abale to inport this time in Captivate. Although the step is applicable for a differnt problem, but still i am curious, if this could solve it.
Secondly, Could you try inserting it as an image rather than animation, the message means it is not a complete animation but a regular file.
    Thanks,
    Anjaneai

  • Colors in gifs hosed in published Captivate 5

    Hi all,
Has anyone encountered a problem where colors in GIFs get messed up when Captivate 5 publishes to Flash? Attached are screenshots of an example. Good (below) shows how the graphic should look -- a simple calenda-type graphic with two rows (weeks) in yellow and a blue star on the last Friday in the yellow rows. Bad (further below) shows the entire graphic with light yellow and the star is black.
I tried making the white parts of the graphic transparent and also tried making them white. Either way, publishing to Flash (Player version 9) makes the graphic look like Bad.
Any ideas? I ended up converting the graphic to JPG, and that seemed to fix the problem, but I'd still like to know why this is happening to this GIF (it doesn't happen to all of them in my project, only this one). Perhaps a special setting? (Image Edit settings are at 0, except for Alpha, which is 100.)
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Lisa

    Hi there
Have you tried configuring the Slide Properties so the setting is either Optimized or High?

  • Captivate 7 crashes when inserting an animated gif

    Hi guys,
new day different problems. I upgraded to Captivate 7 and want to insert some animated gifs. Some of them import fine, but I have two that cause Captivate 7 to crash on insert. I created them with Adobe flash and exported them with the following settings:
I'm not sure what the problem is, since the settings were the same for all animations. The size didn't play a role either. I have to insert these animations as animated gifs, because we will publish the project in HTML5 for web and devices.
    Thanks for all your help!
    Nat

    Guys,
I'm sorry, I'm just seeing your messages now. Just fyi, Adobe support never did get back to me about those gifs. What I ended up doing was changing all those settings until something worked (I did this for hours!). And the weirdest thing, there wasn't one setting that worked for all of them. The following are just two different settings I used for pretty much the same animation. There was no big difference in creating them, except for the publishing process, and only for HTML5 formats.
And this is for the other animation, totally similar in style:
I tried forever to change setting, publish, insert into Captivate 7. From there it was a trial and error experience.

  • Captivate 6 - How do I get .gifs in my training to animate properly?

    Hello,
I inserted a animated gif into my training as an image, but during playback, it doesn't animate.  Is there a way to utlize gifs and keep their animation properties?
    thank you!
    Ryan Scharfer

    Hi,
Can you tell me if this happens to a certain animation or all of them.
Can you try to insert an animation by Insert--Animation and locate your GIF file.
Once, you add the animation check the gallery and try to preview them if they look fine.
    Thanks,
    Anjaneai
