.gif in fireworks

I have tried saving a file as .gif in fireworks, but it did not give me a transpartent background. it does in photoshop. why doesnt it do the same here?
thanks.

You don't want to "Save," you want to "Export."
Go to File > Image Preview. From there, select your image format. Since you want a transparent .gif, you need to tell Fireworks which of the 256 colors in the palette you want transparent. This is where you can do that. You can select alpha or index transparency. (If you don't specify the transparency, then you won't get a transparent .gif.) Once you have the parameters for your image selected, export the image. Don't save.

  • Opening existing animated GIF in Fireworks CS6

    When opening existing animated GIF in Fireworks CS6, it always flattens it, opening it in its first frame. All other frames (states) are lost. What am I doing wrong?

    That's perplexing. I haven't used Dreamweaver in a while. Even though Fireworks is listed in Preferences as my primary image editor, I'm seeing Photoshop on the Edit button, at least with an animated GIF on the page. If I ctrl-click on the image, I can choose to edit it in Fireworks, in which case it opens normally, with all the states preserved.

  • Animated .GIF in Fireworks

    Hello everyone,
    I'm trying to train myself with Fireworks so please bare with me.  I'm attempting to make an animated .gif and my question is: Is there a way to insert each image to automatically fit the canvas (100 pixels X 100 pixels)?  Currently I have to resize each different image to the canvas size in each State and it is very time consuming as there are approximately 90 different images (frames from a video).  Furthermore, is there a way I can take all 90 images and have them inserted and sized into 90 different States automatically?  Thanks for the help in advance!

    A 90 frame animation is pretty hefty. You can try a batch processing operation to scale the images first, but that would assume the images are already square.
    Once you have the images, though, you can choose File > Open, select all the graphics and choose the Open as Animation option in the Open File dialog box. That will put one image on each frame.

  • Putting animated gifs in a Fireworks layout: What is the deal?

    Ok I have scoured the help files.
    Im not finding what I need to know.
    I want to create a Fireworks layout with 10 squares that have photos in them that fade back and forth between one image and another, slowly.
    I would imagine I can pull this off with animated Gifs.
    Thing is, I can not figure out how to pull this off in Fireworks.
    Do I slice up my layout and make each photo square a symbol, then give it a different state and tween between them?
    And if so, how do you control that?
    Or do I make animated gifs in Photoshop and drop them into Fireworks?
    I tried this and the gif came in with 40 states and the animation looked ridiculously bad. Not smooth and way to slow.
    Is there a decent video tut on how to make animations in Fireworks.
    I havent found it yet (nothing on Adobe TV oddly)
    I have a feeling this shouldnt be that difficult but so far, it is.
    I also want to have a rollover in the same layout.
    Is this asking too much of Fireworks?

    Well, some time ago I also thought: Why not create a set of very complicated animated GIFs (using Fireworks, of course;-) and connect them to the HTML/CSS layer of the web design, and thus do with html/css and images things that are only possible with Flash and/or adavanced AJAX scripting.
    I soon realised that this is not possible -- and in certain cases, not needed at all. Animated GIFs (+ an HTML/CSS layer) cannot substitute AJAX scripting or Flash.
    Even more: Even if in some cases you can achieve a certain effect using only animated GIFs, this will be at the cost of very poor browser performance! Reason? Animated GIFs slow down browser performance, and a lot. Flash does not slow down performance in browsers so much. JavaScript doesn't slow down performance so much, too (although it depends).
    Example: Put 100 animated GIF images inside one simple html page and watch your browser slow down terribly. Put 500, and it will maybe even crash!   Even simple GIF animations sometimes slow can be seen to slow down when starting, and then at some point, their speed goes back to normal. And that's just one example...
    In some cases, Flash is the correct answer to your questions. Well, I don't like Flash much, too, but for certain tasks there are certain tools.
    Using very complicated animated GIFs instead of Flash is like using a set of 60 spoons instead one simple shovel... :-)
    Just my 2 cents...
    PS I don't create Flash content, but in the worst case, I can ask a fellow developer to help me...
    PPS I would have created a demo with very complex Fireworks GIF animations only for the sake of pure art/pushing Fw to the limits; never in production:)

  • Flash animated text gif viewed in Fireworks

    CS3 flash text saved as gif animated and viewed in firework
    text is display as a big dark blob. Is there a way to type the text
    so it can be shown clearly and viewed in fireworks without the blob
    as an animated gif. Is thre a better way to do this?

    quote:
    When I create a short flash with text inbeded and I publish
    the fla as a gif my text does not display clearly like the swf,
    when I view the created gif in fireworks animation, my text looks
    like big glob not as a text.
    Is there a reason you need to make a gif animation instead of
    using a .swf?

  • Animated gif creation...

    Hi - I realize this is not the right forum, but I couldn't find one for Fireworks - and it is related to web development... so...
    I have used Image Ready for years now, and love the simplicity of it! Creating an animated gif is a very painless process - you have a window that can easily add frames of the animation to, set the timing, establish tween frames, etc.
    Photoshop CS4 eliminated the associated "Image Ready" software - replacing it with Fireworks...
    I cannot for the life of me figure out how to accomplish an animated .gif in Fireworks - the help areas offer an overview of what an animation is, but no real help (to me anyway) as to what the process is.
    Can anyone please steer me in a direction that will justify Adobe eliminating Image Ready for what appears to be a "much-more-complicated-than-it-needs to-be" replacement?
    If anyone has any tutorial links or other technotes they can share, it would be greatly appreciated...
    Thanks,
    Jesse

  • Animated GIF's in Presenter

    I have a Power Point with animated GIF's in it that work fine
    until I publish it using presenter.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

    Animated GIFs do not appear to be supported in Breeze. The
    help guide mentions using either animated SWFs or the animations
    built in to PowerPoint, but not animated GIFs.
    You might try to open the GIF in Fireworks or Photoshop and
    then save it as an SWF although you may have to adjust the timing
    of the frames.

  • Help with animated gif please!

    Can you embed an animated gif into emails as a signature? i
    have tried it in entourage and outlook, but the gif seems to stick
    on the first frame. The animation works fine if viewed in a browser
    etc. I have also made the email html format.
    any ideas?

    Open your browser and browse to and select the animated GIF
    image. Do you
    see the animation? If not, then you have not properly
    exported your GIF as
    an animated one. What graphics program are you using?

  • Animated gif rollover

    i've created an animated gif in fireworks i want to create a
    rollover button within fireworks then export the animated gif with
    rollover into fireworks. i seem to be doing something wrong, i've
    created the rollover button but it isn't showing up in preview in
    fireworks or showing when exported dreamweaver. any idea how to fix
    it? many thanks

    If you're using Dreamweaver, the easiest thing is to do your
    rollovers there. Export your two images from Fireworks, then use
    Dreamweaver's menu:
    Insert > Image Objects > Rollover Image
    It's a snap.
    Fireworks is a graphics program that can export HTML for
    mockups and prototypes. It is not a visual Web development tool.
    When you switch from making graphics to making pages, switch from
    FW to DW.

  • Problem exporting as an animated gif

    I create animated gifs in Fireworks.
    I work on them, save them as a png file and then export as an animated gif.
    For some reason, I have followed the same procedure but the file is not exporting correctly export at all or only saves 1 frame.
    Also, if I name the file TEST.png, when I go to export I export as TEST.gif however when it is saved to the desktop it reads Page1.gif
    ???????  I'm really confused.
    I have checked all the details in Image Preview and they are all correct.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks

    If you haven't done so, try adding a slice around the animation and optimize / export the slice

  • Animated gif issue in IE

    I use Fireworks MX 2004 at work to create animated banners

    When I create the animated gif in Fireworks the gif displays
    perfectly
    in Netscape, Mozilla, etc but in IE it has a 1 px slice left
    from the
    first frame on the other frames.
    I tried moving the slice, slicing again, etc to no avail...
    I had to use ImageReady to create the animation again using
    the
    exported gifs from each frame to make it display correctly in
    IE.
    Has anybody come across this problem and has anybody found a
    solution?

    Never seen anything like this before. Try to fiddle with
    "Auto Crop" and
    "Auto Difference" options in "Export Preview". For me, FW
    always did
    difference perfectly but who knows, maybe the source of the
    problem is
    here somewhere.

  • Exporting flash video made with swift 3d to animated gif help

    I know there is a new grounds link about setting your publishing settings to get animated gifs to work with flash.
    I am using CS4 and when I go to publish the gif works in the html document. But when I export to an animated gif it is still a still picture.
    I have also tried to export to a quicktime file and it's is a still picture there too and distorted.
    Can anyone help me out? Should exporting to png or gif sequence work as well?

    turns out the swift 3d tutorial has you put the animation in a single keyframe within layer one.
    so only one frame is shown or created. there go it stays static
    now if someone could help me wiht resizing a gif for fireworks i would be the happest person

  • Photoshop Layers to Fireworks

    Hi,
    I'm working with Fireworks and Photoshop CS4 on a MacPro OSX 10.5.6.
    This should be so easy (and I suppose it is) but I can't make it happen.
    I have a Photoshop file with 15 layers that I want to import or open in Fireworks to create an animated GIF. When I open the psd file in Fireworks, none of the layers show up. How can I make this happen? I've messed around with the import preferences (nothing is set to flatten) but nothing seems to make any difference.
    I thought the layers in Photoshop would come in as frames or layers inside FW.
    Please explain the steps involved for turning a Photoshop file with layers into an animated GIF with Fireworks.
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thank you.

    States are what FW uses for a GIF animation. Assuming you don't need
    to do anything else to the imagery, just choose Animated GIF from the
    Optimize panel and then export the file.
    Fireworks does not use a timeline like IR did. You can change the
    delay time for each state by changing the value at the right side of
    the States panel. The default is 7 (7/100's of a second). Increase the
    number for a slower animation, decrease it for a faster animation.

  • Swapping static gifs with animated gifs

    Hi
    I am currently developing a large application. I created a toolbar with many button functions. The buttons are created as image icons. I created the gifs using Fireworks for the toolbar. A couple are animated as I would like to have the static image swapped with the animated image when the button is passed over with the mouse. Currently the animation will loop no matter where the mouse is which can be quite annoying to the user. Separate sample code follows:
    import javax.swing.*;
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    public class AnimationTest extends JFrame
         JToolBar toolbar;
         JButton btnSave, btnRestore;
         public AnimationTest()
              toolbar = new JToolBar();
              btnSave = new JButton(new ImageIcon("btnSaveAnim.gif"));
              toolbar.add( btnSave );
              btnRestore = new JButton( new ImageIcon( "btnRestoreAnim.gif" ));
              toolbar.add( btnRestore );
              getContentPane().add( toolbar, BorderLayout.NORTH );
              addWindowListener( new WinClosing() );
              setBounds( 100, 100, 100, 100 );
              setVisible( true );
         public static void main( String args[] )
              AnimationTest at = new AnimationTest();
    class WinClosing extends WindowAdapter
         public void windowClosing( WindowEvent we )
              System.exit(0);
    }How can I create a rollover event when the static gif is passed over with the mouse?
    Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
    Greg

    I had the same problem and the setRolloverEnabled(true) and setRollOverIcon(Icon) methods did nothing. The problem is solved by simply adding mouse listeners to each button and using mouseEntered(MouseEvent e) and mouseExited(MouseEvent E) methods within th elistener.
    It was the only way I could get it working.
    Good luck.
