Gift of iTunes MP4 Files across International Borders? Is it Possible?

Situation: I live in the USA. I have friends abroad.
In this particular case, I wanted to gift one (1) mp4 file to a friend in Spain. I purchased said file using the gift option, filled out the requisite email info and sent the email. My friend cannot retrieve the file, which is aparently marked for distribution within the USA only.
??? Give music to anyone anywhere = FALSE ???
I paid for the file and the service. Too bad for me; I'm out $1.07 for naught.
Is there a workaround? Anyone with a recommendation? Thanks

  • How do I move music files from the startup disc to iTunes in the other internal hard disk os 10.5.8?

How do I move music files from the startup disc to iTunes in the other internal hard disk os 10.5.8?
The music I want to move was in iTunes but is now just files. I had to reinstall a new iTunes and lost all my old music.
    Thank you!

That article is about using your iPod as an external hard drive, to move files from one computer to another computer.  It is not related to your question.
You can't use iTunes to move song files from iPod to computer, except for songs you purchased from the iTunes Store (and you can also re-download purchases).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can move song files from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your current computer, add them to that computer's iTunes library by dragging the files (or folder containing the files) to the iTunes window.  After confirming everything is there (and fixing the data issue you mentioned) you can sync the iPod.  You may want to do a Restore on the iPod, if it might have a data corruption issue, which will erase the iPod's hard drive, re-install the latest software, and set it to defautl settings.

  • I want to force iTunes to organize my mp3/mp4 files as I want and show that when I launch iTunes

I find file management in iTunes to be very unApple like. Periodically I import mp3 or mp4 files that show up under music when I launch iTunes. I would like to name and order them by date and put them in a folder, album, or some collection item to facilitate finding and using them later. Copy and paste does not work,
drag and drop does not work. If I go to where the items are stored as music files I can achieve a named collection of these files ordered as I wish. That, however, does not manifest itself back in iTunes.
One of two things appears to be the case. Either I cannot manage iTunes as it thinks it owns everything or I simply cannot uses the apple file management paradigm in use for the past two decades on an Apple computer running iTunes. Perhaps both of these are true. Another possibility is to install a different program over which I have control and disable iTunes from ever touching one of my imported files.
It is possible that Apple intentionally obfuscated file management with iTunes to simplify their commercial management of the iTunes store, and while that is a possibility, understanding it is enigmatic.
Another quandary is the concept of album. Under "New", playlists are mentioned, but not albums or folders. Yet both may show up mysteriously. There must be a ghost in my computer.
Help and psychoanalysis will be appreciated.

Since there are no obvious answers to this dilemma, I have changed my thinking on the subject. It is a title like giving up on teaching a pig to sing. Since I can organize all my mp3 files anyway I choose and furthermore can name them anything I choose I have done so and stored them under a named folder in the Music folder. I can play them with Quick Time and never have to go through iTunes at all.
    Case closed.

  • Itunes 10 Add to Library doesn't work for mp4 file

    I'm running OS X Lion, iTunes 10.5.2, Quicktime 10.
I am trying to add an MP4 video file to my library and itunes simply does nothing when I drag it to the Movies folder or when I try to select the file from the Add to Library command.  I've been reading for the past hour and see others have had similar issues.  Is there a fix for this?

I just discovered that iTunes doesn't like the H.264 version of MP4 files. If I convert the video to MPEG-4, I can successfully copy the file into iTunes.  Is this a bug or a feature?

  • Does anyone know how to move a .mp4 file from flixter into iTunes?

I have downloaded a digital copy of a movie that I received when I purchased a Bluray disc.  Most of the time, these go directly into iTunes, but this one went into Flixter.  It is an .mp4 file.  I tried using Add File to Library, but it didn't work.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Never mind - got it figured out!!

  • Automatically add files to iTunes not processing mp4 files on Windows 8.1

I have iTunes 12.1.1.4 install on a Windows 8 (x64) system.  I have been using iTunes for quite some time and my library is located at c:\Music.  On earlier versions (version 10 of iTunes for example) I would drop an MP4 file into c:\Music\Automatically Add to iTunes" directory and iTunes would process this file and add to either the movies or TV Shows section.
I have not used this feature in some time but now have started to.  Currently, if I place the mp4 in that directory, iTunes does not do anything with the video.  I have gotten to using "Add Folder to Library" and iTunes will then process the directory.  I do have "Keep iTunes Media folder organized" and "Copy Files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library" checked.
How can I get iTunes to recognize that a file has been placed in this directory and process it?

    Two possibilities:
iTunes has processed the file but has categorized it as "Home Movies" rather than other video kinds - in this case you'll be able to find it under that heading in iTunes.  Note that there's a bug in iTunes 12 where even if you then change the media kind - for example, to "TV Show" or "Movie" - it will be shown in the new category in the iTunes UI but the files will still be in the "Home Movies" folder under iTunes Media
If iTunes has not been able to process the file, you should find within a Not Added folder under Automatically Add to iTunes - the most likely cause of this is that the MP4 files are using a codec that is not compatible with iTunes.

  • Can't drag/drop MP4 files in iTunes 10 - Movies

Recently I have installed the new iTunes 10. Now I am not able to drag and drop MP4 files to load videos in my iPod and iPhone. Earlier I used to drag & drop MP4 files and load my iPod. But with this new version in Windows 7 OS, I am not able to load videos. Became very frustrated. Can you please help me?
    Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem! Is there anyone out there with an answer! I'm so extremely frustrated with this issue. I did everything that others have suggested on this community and others online. I used a converter (which doesn't even make any sense because I used to be able to drag/drop mp4 with ease without converting them before this stupid iOS5 and Itunes update). I renamed the file to m4v. There's tons of stuff I tried and still nothing. What frustrates me is that everyone is suggesting to convert and as I said I never used to do that with MP4's before. Why all of a sudden now?

  • I have downloaded itunes songs into my library and now I want to import them into my DVD program, but they are MP4 files and I need them to be wma. files,  can I and how do I change them?

I have downloaded itunes songs into my library and now I want to import them into my Adobe Premiere Elements DVD program.  When I did it before, they were already .wma files, now they are MP4 files and they won't go.  How do I change these MP4 files into .wma files?

You got the new iphone?????   I have same problem.  I transferred audiobooks to device to find no audiobooks on device (despite it being in iTunes as if it was).  Have you found a solution?????   I even tried to change import settings on format transfer but hasn't worked.

  • Will iTunes or QuickTime Player let you burn an mp4 file onto an audio CD?

I want to burn some MP4 videos (i.e., the audio portion only)  onto audio CDs; I guess that would mean converting to .aiff files, right?
Can this be done in either iTunes 10.6.1 or QuickTime Player 10.0? I'm running Mac OS 10.6.8 on a Mac mini, if that makes any difference.
Or do I have to find some third party software to do the conversion and then burn the CDs?
Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

Depends on how you plan to play them back. AIFF can be played on almost any commercial audio CD player. MP3 files can be played on most current CD players. Apple Lossless or AAC could be used if playback is through your computer. The choice is really yours.

Yes, but the work flow may be different depending on which software and audio compression format you use. E.G., QT 7 Pro could extract the MP4's AAC audio track directly to an new file without conversion if AAC is your target format. As previously mentioned, QT X could be use to recompress the MP4 to an audio only AAC file. The free MPEG Streamclip or QT 7 Pro apps could be used to convert the MP4's AAC directly AIFF files. Converted or extracted AAC files could be added to your iTunes library where iTunes could create and burn a "Playlist" of such files to CD using AAC, AIFF, Apple Lossless, MP3, or WAV compression formats dependin on your playback requirements. (Unfortunately, iTunes will not directly extract and reprocess/burn the AAC audio directly from MP4 files already in its library.

  • Reconnect iTUnes files across 2 discs

I currently hold my iTunes Music Library on my MacBook Pro, put usually have TV Shows and Movies on an external disc, without copying them to the library. Mainly for HD space reasons.
Now I had to update my external disk for a bigger one.
Is there an easy way to tell iTunes the new location of all movies and TV Shows in subfolders, without having to relink each and every single one, or having to copy them to the iTunes folder on the laptop?
    thanks for any advice,
    Stefan.

there are options. one would be this tip by *Chris CA*:
    In iTunes 9.
    iTunes prefs -> Advanced.
Set the iTunes media folder location to the external.
Then select the movie files (or any files in iTunes) and right click Consolidate.
This will copy only the movies to the external location.
After it finishes, iTunes prefs -> Advanced and set the iTunes media folder location back to the internal. This will tell iTunes to use the internal drive for new files.
You can then delete the movies from \Music\iTunes\ on the internal to free up space.
To copy a movie back to the internal, simply right click - Consolidate (since you pointed iTunes back to the internal).
just edit these instructions to meet your needs.

  • Can't view mp4 files on iTunes

    Hi,
None of my mp4 files play on iTunes or QuickTime, both of which are up to date. I have OS X 10.7.5. The mp4 files have all been added to iTunes movies. But when I click 'play', the window is all black / blank although the title of the video is shown in the header, and even the timer . Same with QuickTime. Does anyone know of a fix?
    Thanks!

Sorry I meant to say 'even the timer is running', i.e. everything in the video window looks right except that there is no picture!

  • I am not able to download mp4 files (video and audio) to iTunes since I updated to iTunes 11.  Thanks for your help.

I am not able to download mp4 files (video and audio) to iTunes since I updated to iTunes 11.  Thanks for your help.

Thank you for clarifying. Your question is in your browser, not in iTunes. Each download link is different, and it has nothing to do with the File menu. You can save media files by secondary-clicking on the link to the media file and selecting Save File to "[your downloads folder".

  • Why do MP4 files have negative length (eg -2.43 mins) in iTunes 11 on Win7?

I cannot play MP4 files in iTunes, from any source. They add fine, but their length is always negative (eg -2.43 minues) and so iTunes stops playing at 0.
The files run fine in VLC, and other media players. But when transferred to iPhone or iPad, the files have negative length.
The run times are correct - just 'reversed'. This crops up randomly after rebuilds of my Win7 machine.
What could possibly be going on? And how can I fix it (preferably prevent it reoccuring!)

The display at the top when a track is playing shows on the left a counter going up, and on the right a counter going down, this right hand figure is actually a negative number so it is counting 'up' to zero. You can therefore see both how long the track is playing and how long is remaining to play. You can also click once on the right hand number and it will switch from time remaining (a negative number) to total length (a positive number).
If you list the tracks in Songs view, it should show a postive track duration, and if you Get Info on the track it should also show a positive track duration.
