Gifting an ipod to someone living in another country?

My boyfriend lives in Australia and I'm planning to visit him this summer and give him an iPod as a gift. I'm thinking of purchasing the iPod here in Canada so that I can get it engraved and maybe add music before I leave. I'm wondering if there are things I would need to consider to make the iPod Australia-friendly. For example, will the iPod software be defaulted to Canada settings (iTunes store, etc.) or can I change it to Australian settings? If I add music on it, will it be erased when he sets up the iPod to his own computer?

Don't bother. The warranty will not be valid in Australia. The account you setup will have an Apple ID belonging to you, so he cannot use it. He will need an Apple ID in Australia with an Australian bank account, credit card, and billing address.
He's better off having you buy it for him in Australia.

  • How can I gift an App to someone in a different country? How can I recall the gift I alreadt sent?

I gifted an App from the App store to my cousin. He is India and I am in Kuwait. He now got a message saying that the app can only be used in Kuwait. How can I gift an App to someone in a different country? How can I recall the gift I alreadt sent?
    Cheers,

Are you asking about iOS apps? This is the Mac App Store forum, about issues with apps for Macs, not iOS devices. Mac apps cannot be gifted at this moment. I am asking the Hosts to move your question to the iTunes area.

Of course you can update now. BTW, how exactly did you cancel this, did you contact AST or what?

  • Can i set up an itunes account for my friend living in another country?

I would like to set up an itunes account for my friend living aboard and I'm happy to use my own credit card details to buy the music and use my own email address. Is this possible? It's for a birthday present so I wanted to just send her the login details to the account and hey-presto she has lots of cool new music. I've looked up itunes cloud / match etc but have no idea if this is possible to do. Please help and thanks in advance

FYI, you've posted to the iTunes Match forum, which your question really isn't related to.
But, the answer to your question is no. To set up an account in a regional iTunes Store the person must have a credit card drawn on a local bank and an address in the local country to create the account. The Terms of Service of the stores also prevent someone from living in one country and using another store.

  • I have a iPod touch that's in another country with the same Apple ID  as mine , anyone know is that legal?

I have tried to resolve this matter for over two years, and one day ,I read a post about a person living in the UK asking about the (GSM+CDMA) on Jun 16 2013 10:30AM, stating that they had a device that was bought in the UK, with a certain model number and one of the community modulator told that person that they was wrong, Based on the fact that, that model was never sold in the UK,it was strange to me because I have been looking for my daughters I pod touch that was stolen around this very time frame and certain post was asking how do this and that, as I know there are thousands of people asking the same questions. it was how they asked, like over and over, until I saw this Post about the CDMA ,what got me going again asking. If some didn't want there Apple ID to conflict with an Apple ID here in the USA then would the same Apple ID in the UK be not even looked at as the same owner .. I didn't ask before because I had no proof until that post, only be caused they left there name on the bottom of the form they posted

The only problem would be with making iTunes/App Store purchases and updating app.
You can only use the iTunes/App Store in the country you are located AND the payment method in the ID/account must be associated with that country.
Also, not all apps are available in all countries and thus you may not be able to update an app

  • What plan should I get for my iPhone while living in another country?

I would like to purchase an iPhone 5s to use while studying abroad in China. However, although I know what model iPhone I want, I don't know what plan to get or what carrier. I'll be living in China for a year and returning to USA, so I'll need a phone plan that will allow me to use the phone in China, but also when I get back. Whilst in China, I'll be communicating with people in USA via facetime, so I won't be doing international calls. Is the best way to go about this to unlock a phone and change the SIM card in China, or buy a prepaid phone? What carrier has the best prices for either option? Thanks!

the only one which would work was the factory unlocked and since the warranty is only valid in usa I would likely be better of buying a phone in China

  • My iPod was stolen but in ANOTHER country

I went to go visit Ecuador a few weeks ago. i dont know when i could have lost my iPod. all i know is that i left it on a table and many people came to have breakfast. they left a few hours later. i didnt relize my ipod was missing unitl friday when i went looking for it. it has a passcode lock so is there a way i can "deavctivate" my iPod or something so that if they manage to open it they cant purchase anything. What will apple do in this situation? do i have insurasce to recieve a new one if i bought it in November? please help.

    Sorry about your ipod.
"What will apple do in this situation? "
The same as any other manufacturer.  Nothing
"do i have insurasce to recieve a new one if i bought it in November?"
How would we know if you purchased some sort of insurance froor your ipod.  Apple does not provide or sell any insurance at all.
"it has a passcode lock so is there a way i can "deavctivate" my iPod or something so that if they manage to open it they cant purchase anything."
If you had passcode lock set, then your data should be safe.  Change all of your passwords just to be safe.

  • Why cant i gift a book to someone using an itunes card?

I am trying to gift a book to my daughter in another country.   I am using itunes cards rather than credit card.   Why wont it work?  Its really frustrating as using an itunes card is basically a prepayment to itunes... why such bad customer service?

Because Apple doesn't permit iTunes Store credit to be spent on gifts, and because iTunes Store gifts can't be sent to someone in another country. Send her a cheque for the value of the book.

  • Buying music credit in another country

i have a family member living in another country in europe and i would like to buy him some music credit, is it possible/will it work in his country??
Message Edited by renrut04 on 19-Apr-2009 12:07 PM

The credit is usually valid only on the country where the account is held, not across all Nokia music stores. To buy credit online for your relative, you'd have to log into their account and make the purchase since the credit is automatically assigned to the account.
One thing that might work, depending how co-operative Nokia customer services are in your country, it to buy credit against your account and then ask them to adjust credit of yours and your friends account? For example, if you buy 50€of credit, they might be willing to reduce your account by 50€and add the 50€ onto the account of your relative. All music store credit is valid for one year, after which ytou get an e-mail telling you to call them to get your account recredited for the expired amoint, so it stands to reason that the can adjust credit figures.

  • TS1292 How can I give an iTunes gift to someone in another country?

I want to give iTunes as a gift to someone in another country, how do I do this?

You cannot. iTunes' gifts may only be purchased and redeemed in the same country where it was purchased.

  • Ok. so im trying to sync my ipod to a new computer, i type in my apple id and password, then someone elses email pops up from another country, how do i fix this

Ok. so im trying to sync my ipod to a new computer, i type in my apple id and password, then someone elses email pops up from another country, how do i fix this
               Please help me.

If the problem persists, you'll probably have to make another apple id, it wont take off any games or music or apps or anything you've bought it will all stay there, i have two apple id's and i don't have a problem with anything.

  • Purchasing gift card for someone in another country

how can i purchase a gift card for someone to use in another country?  it sounds like they cannot use a gift card purchased in the US and use it in France.

You would ahve to have someone in that country buy the card for you.

  • Can I 'gift' to someone in another country?

    Hi Folks,
I am based in Australia and have finally got my mum in the UK using iTunes. I 'gifted' her an audio book, but when she tried to claim it was told that it wasn't valid because it was bought in another country. Does anyone know if there is any legitimate and simple way I can gift things to someone in another country? I tried changing the country setting already, and setting up a new (supposedly UK) account, but I don't have a UK credit card so that way was blown. I can understand why there might be complex legal reasons why I can't gift her something from the Australian store, but it seems a shame that I can't gift her anything even from the UK store. Is that definitely the case?
Thanks to anyone for any help they can give me.

I believe that it's possible to buy her a Gift Card from the UK Store's website.  That way she will be able to exchange it for something locally.
It's a nuisance I know but it's all for copyright and other legal reasons.
