GilAltOneMT font missing in PDF generated with FM8.0p266

Hi -
Long time Frame user, reluctantly "upgraded" to Frame 8.0/Tech Comm Suite within the past 4 months. Never had issues generating PDF files using the PDF printer driver from Frame 7.0. With Frame 8.0, for some reason the font "GilAtOneMT" will not appear in the PDF file, which is an issue as this font is used as our sans serif font for headers, etc. Why is this particular font such an issue?
I only experience this issue with Frame 8.0. Use same font in PhotoShop CS3 and Illustrator CS2, and no issue generating PDFs from these apps with this font.
Not in the mood to rework all of our Frame templates to switch over to some other font, but looks inevitable.
Multiple users here having the same issue. The only commonality that we have is that we have all upgraded to Frame 8.0 and now have this issue. We have been using these same Frame templates for 5+ years, since Frame 5.5.
Thanks,

Hi -
Well, the Tech Comm Suite sat in my office gathering dust for months, because if something is not broke (like Frame 7), why mess with success? Now, it's broken, and right before a big product release. Are you suggesting that this issue is fixed in TCS2.0?
<<how are you creating PDFs? SaveAs or printing directly to the Adobe PDF printer or print to file & distilling the resulting .ps file?>>
Printing directly to PDF printer.
- <<have you set the Adobe PDF printer to be the default printer in FM? You can use the SetPrint utility to set this for you automajically for you when you start FM.>>
You're dealing with a non-tech here, where is the "SetPrint utility" - ? Set it as the default on my system, or just in Frame?
<<- what version of O/S are you using? There was a MS hotfix that solved a FM PDF problem recently - search for "MS hotfix" in the FM forums or check the Adobe TCS blog; they have a link there to it.>>
I will check this out. I am using Windows XP Pro Service Pack 2 (like the rest of the corp world).
<<PS - if you just got TCS in the last 4 months, why didn't you get TCS2.0? You know version 1.0 of anything will always have hiccups ;>)>>
Trust me, I fought this one kicking and screaming. I still get shudders thinking about my "upgrade" to Illustrator CS. I am now in revolt over our impending "upgrade" to AuthorIT.
Thanks for listening to me whine...

BTW: I checked that Workflow in running properly before I installed PDFG.
    Regards, Karin

    Hello,
I think I found something: the webapp.jar in adminui.war in LiveCycle.ear contains the FeatureBean class and is different once I have PDF Generator included. I tried to exchange this jar file. Now I have access again to the administrator webapp.
However, I get an error message when I try to convert images with Acrobat:
"The service to convert the document could not be looked up."
Can this have something to do with the exchange? It's a strange error message because Acrobat is installed together with PDF Generator.
Or could it be because I have also Adobe Reader 7.0.8 installed?
Any ideas would be really appreciated.

  • Embed a font in a PDF(generated by Word 2013) using Adobe Acrobat XI

    Hi all,
I wrote my thesis in Word 2013 using the LaTex font "LM Roman 12" that is an Open Type font not restricted (it results "Editable").
Although it is marked as opentype, word doesn't embed it into the exported pdf and I guess that is becouse the font is identified as Type1.
I more or less solved the problem printing the word file using Adobe PDF Printer or converting it with Abobe Acrobat XI, but I'd like to use the pdf generated by word becouse auto-creates index, links index items to contents and doesn't resize/alter the images inside the document.
The screenshot above is the properties of the pdf generated from word.
Is there a simple way to force the embedding in this pdf of the missing not embedded fonts?

Word 2013 uses its own pdf creator engine as far as I know. The step I performed were:
1 - In the save settings I told word to embed fonts (sorry for the language, I have the Italian client)
2 - Export from Word -> Save As -> .pdf adding also the table of contents/index
N.B. I cannot use PDF/A, and in any case it doesn't embed the font
A working solution is to use Acrobat XI to convert it or print with Adobe PDF printer, results:
    The problems are 2:
1 - It doesn't create any bookmark and doesn't create links from the table of images to the linked images
2 - Images, also with the preset "High Quality Printing" customized using "No compression", are really ugly and if you zoom a bit more than 100% they totally be s**t. It wasn't that way with PDF created by word.
In the end, or I find they way to open the pdf created by word and embedd the missing font, or I find a way to make Acrobat XI creating bookmarks from the word file.
    Suggestion?

  • Reader X does not display drawing in PDF generated with LaTeX

Preview on Mac OS X 10.5 and 10.6
    Adobe Reader 9.x
    Skim (skim-app.sf.net).
When I open this document with Adobe Reader X I get following error message when I hit page 58:

  • Printing Services do not accept PDFs generated with Pages

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.4.1 and I have been using Pages to generate documents which I then turn into PDFs before sending to a printing service for printing. However, several print services that I need to use to stay cost competitive cannot accept PDFs generated by Pages (I believe they said or Quark). The print service printers will not print PDFs created by pages. I've probably spent 2 weeks trying to work my way out of this one and I can't seem to find a solution other than to manually rework all my files into Word documents which could take months. Does anyone have a suggestion for me? Thank you so much,
    Wendy

I need to use to stay cost competitive cannot accept PDFs generated by Pages (I believe they said or Quark)
The print publishing industry has agreed on a specification for print-ready PDF. The specification is an ISO standard known as PDF/X for blind eXchange, meaning that if the person preparing the digital master applies the specification then the person printing the digital master can depend on the master to be printable.
QuarkXPress 7 includes PDF/X authentication internally and Apple Pages includes PDF/X authentication externally through the sysem-level Apple ColorSync filters. The print service provider should inform you of the printing condition she is selling you and should provide an ICC type PRTR printer profile for that printing condition.
The ICC printer profile determines the ink limit, the detail in the highlights and the detail in the shadows, the gray balance relative to the tint of the paper (whether bluish, yellowish, reddish, or near neutral) and matches the laydown order of the inks in the printing system. If the print service provider has no ICC printer profile for a custom printing condition, ISO 12647 reference data are available from www.color.org and the print service provider should be able to build a separation to suit her process from that. This ICC printer profile should be set as the OutputIntent in the PDF/X filter, whether in QuarkXPress, in Apple Pages, in Adobe InDesign, in Adobe Acrobat or in any other compatible application.

  • Linux - Turkish font  - RTF working, PDF replaced with ?

    Hi All,
Im back to trying to get my application working on Linux again, and have arrived at the next bump in the road.
    Versions:
    CR4E v2.0.4.r825
    Java 1.6.0_13
    Oracle Enterprise Linux 5
Background. Originally develeoped and tested on Windows, and got everything working 100%.
We then moved the App to a Linux enviroment.
First problem I came across was directory referencing, and case sensitivity, which I managed to solve.
We then had issues where all fonts in the PDF outputs were shown as LucidaSans. This was solved by following the
    documentation found on [http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/]
This allowed us to correctly output the TimesNewRoman font.
Everything was going well until we needed to display Turkish font. On our Windows test enviroment everything is working
perfectly, on the Linux, not so much.
The way the Turkish font is used on the report is I developed a UFL which receives numbers and then looks up certain codes
in a properties file, which contains the unicode representation of the Turkish characters. These are then interpreted by
Java and a String is formatted and returned to the Report.
If I look in my logs I get the following:
    com.crystaldecisions.reports.formulas.k.a(SourceFile:4554) - Function 'numbers2words' returned: s(beu015Fyu00FCz doksan TL  )
So we can see that the correct characters are returned. ( ş )
What I found out that if I tried exporting the Report as a PDF the text returned gets converted to  -  be?yu00FCz doksan TL
The Document Properties of the PDF produce on Linux lists the fonts as
    DejaVuLGSans
      Type: TrueType
      Encoding: Ansi
      Actual Font: Adobe Sans MM
      Actual Font Type: Type 1
    TimesNewRoman
      Type: TrueType
      Encoding: Ansi
      Actual Font: TimesNewRomanPSMT
      Actual Font Type: TrueType
Yet Windows version is as follows
    TimesNewRoman(Embedded Subset)
      Type: TrueType
      Encoding: Built-in
    TimesNewRomanBold(Embedded Subset)
      Type: TrueType
      Encoding: Built-in
BUT if I export to a RTF document, all font looks perfect, on both Windows and Linux.
RTF code looks something like this if this helps anyone
    {\posx260\posy9866\absw5518\absh-1919 \sl240\slmult1\par\fs17\f1 be\uc1\u351\'3Fy\u252\'3Fz doksan TL  \par\par\par}
Any ideas on what I need to do or what I have not done, I will take any sugesstions. Also will give additional info if required.
    Thanks Darren

    Thanks Ted,
    That did the trick.
Although I must say that I find it strange that originally we had no TimesNewRoman fonts on the Linux box,
so we setup the msttcorefonts package as per [http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/msttcorefonts-2.0-1.spec]
This then allowed us to print TimesNewRoman font on our PDF, but we still had no Turkish characters.
So by placing these TTF files into the Java /lib/fonts directory and amending the fonts.dir file we all of a sudden had the Turkish characters.
It almost seems that applying the fonts the first time only half solved our problems, and then once we made them avaliable in
the Java lib/fonts area it solved the UFL issue.
Anyways, its working now so we all happy.
    Cheers
    Darren

  • Preview: PDFs generated with Oracle RS are missing letters

    Hi,
When I open PDFs in Preview which were created using "Oracle10gR2 AS Reports Services", some letters are missing. The documents aren't corrupted and appear valid on other platforms or in other applications. Is there any solution/fix for Preview? As I'm quite happy with Preview I don't want to install the Adobe reader and I can't change the document generator, as my University's support says "it works on Win/Adobe, hence use them instead..."
    TIA, JC

Same exact issue. Very annoying. My workaround is to Cntrl-click on the pdf report and choose Open With... and use Adobe Reader. But I like using Preview because it's so easy to highlight or circle items, and add other annotations. I don't want to have Adobe Reader be my default reader.
I wish someone would trouble-shoot this and offer up a real fix. I may contact our IT folks--but there aren't that many Macs where I work, so it won't be a high priority for them.

  • PDF generate with landscape rotation AutoCAD

I have been trying to find solution.  Perhaps some one can help via this forum.
Using Acrobat X Pro on Windows 7.     I am trying to use the Adobe PDF windows printer to print from AutoCAD 2012.    I am successful generating output using Standard joboptions.   Here is the issue.
When I print a Arch D size sheet.   I am not able to control the rotation.   PDF comes out rotate 90 ccw.    I have tried to address in the job file settings by turning off rotation,    I have tried switching to different pdf types.
I have tried creating a sheet size that reverses the dimensions.   "Arch D" is listed with size 24x36.   I created a sheet, "Arch D 36x24" with dimension 36" wide and 24" high.    The preview inside AutoCAD show all is well.    Best I can do is get the drawing rotated 90 ccw when it opens to view in Acrobat.
Yes, I know I can rotate and save the sheet in Acrobat to get it turned.   Not the solution I need.
We can not use the AutoDesk DWGtoPDF.pc3 file as it doesn't produce line work and text that are acceptable.    We are switching back to using Acrobate but must not have people turning their heads to view on the screen.

  • Data missing in PDF output generated by RDF locally only for one time.

    Hi All,
Could any one please help me in finding the reason of the below mentioned issue.
I have downloaded an RDF onto local machine and changed only sorting of few columns required.
After that I had generated PDf output on local machine for first few times PDF is generated with correct output.
Unfortunately when I again generated PDF output as final version, a few columns are missed in displaying in the PDF output. again I ran the RDF for next time and the PDF is generated correctly.
Now I want to know what may be the reason that for that time only PDF generated with missing data.
FYI, Problem occured in Report Builder *9.0.4.0.33*
This reason is really urgent and needfull for me.
Your help is very much appreciated.
    Many Thanks in Advance.

  • Heavy performance issues using Adobe Interactive Form PDFs generated by SAP BPM

    Dear experts,
we use Adobe Interactive Form PDFs (generated with LiveCycle Designer) as Human Tasks within SAP BPM processes. The PDFs are generated and transmitted correctly, but when they are opened at the receivers PC, Windows freezes for 2-3 minutes, then the PDF opens and can be filled out and sent back. The next PDFs can be opened much faster, but when the PC is restarted, we get the same problem again. We use Adobe Reader XI (11.0.2) on our clients; is their any know performance issue?
Please note, that we have this problem with EVERY Adobe Interactive Form PDF... I created a simple PDF containing just a field and the client PC still freezes. So it can't be in the form or the scripting. Normal static PDFs can be opend without any problems.
    Best regards,
    David

They haven't really announced it, because there is no product to announce. Rather the opposite.
There are no conversion tools, so far as I know.
XFA forms are a non-starter if you want portability.
AcroForms are a nightmare in themselves, because the functionality is limited in Adobe Reader and varies between absent and weird in other products. No idea about Blackberry support.
You will not find a simple recommendation. Rather, you need to use Acroforms and carefully test everything (EVERYTHING: no assumptions) on every platform you intend to support.
Yes, rather unsatisfactory, but until Adobe realise that the future is platform equivalence or irrelevance, this is where we are.

  • Adobe TrueType fonts missing from created PDF

When I create a PDF file everything comes through perfectly except the Adobe TrueType font text is missing (Adobe Garamond Pro). This used to work. File looks good on screen and prints fine.
If I switch to Garamond the PDF is created perfectly, now including all missing text.

Note that Adobe's Garamond Pro fonts are not TrueType fonts. They are OpenType CFF fonts.
In fact, that may be the key to why they are not embedded in your PDF files.
First, contrary to the response of Bill@VT, although the Standard joboptions for Adobe's PDF creation tools do not embed all fonts, the fonts that are not embedded are in an exception list. Using those joboptions, members of the Adobe Garamond Pro font family should properly embed in PDF files created either by (a) printing to the Adobe PDF PostScript printer driver instance under Windows, (b) using the native PDF export from Adobe graphic arts applications (Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) as long as you don't use the Smallest Size joboptions, or (c) when using Microsoft Office applications, you use the Adobe PDFMaker option for PDF creation, Save as Adobe PDF again as long as you don't use the Smallest Size joboptions.
That having been said, the fact that the Garamond fonts (I assume that you are referring to the TrueType Garamond font family that Microsoft bundles with Windows and Office) embeds and Adobe Garamond Pro font don't embed leads me to believe that your real problem is that you are creating PDF by using the fairly defective save as PDF which is native to Microsoft Office on Windows. One of a number of bugs or limitations in Microsoft's PDF creation is that although it embeds TrueType fonts and OpenType TrueType fonts, it fails to embed OpenType CFF fonts. Not only doesn't Microsoft embed those fonts in the PDF file, but it improperly references the fonts in the generated PDF file such that when you display and/or print such PDF files, even if you have Adobe Garamond Pro installed on your system, those fonts are not used for display or print. (We have informed Microsoft of this bug, but they are apparently not interested in fixing their bug!)
If you already have Acrobat installed on your system, use the Save as Adobe PDF (from the file screen) or Create Adobe PDF from the Acrobat tab on the Office ribbon. Set the preferences to at least Standard, but preferably Hiqh Quality Print joboptions and you will end up with a proper PDF with the Adobe Garamond Pro (or any OpenType fonts) properly embedded)!
