Gilfach Goch Speed and outage updates

Hello,
This is a quick posting here as people in the Gilfach Goch area might have noticed that they either have no Broadband connection or very slow speed I have some information here I contacted the head of Open Reach directly Mr Ian Livingston who confirmed that there is a severe problem with Broadband around here please see his email to me posted here
I have just had some further information on this. It is not true that we have not tried to repair it. The floods have meant that the ducts and full of water and rubbish and we had to try alternative routes but this left some cabinets with low or no speed. Not things are starting to dry out, we are going to try again.
Ian
Please note this is affecting evey single provider around here not just BT I have pressed him for a timetable as when things would be back to normal but he would not give one.  Again note that this information was not made available to any ISP or on any of the lists or websites.  So we have some sort of answer here cold comfort but it is BT open reaches responsibilty for the problems I will be monitoring myself and I wll try and post any new information as soon as  I Know to be honest I should not have had to go this far to get this info but that's BT for you.

Hi,
I live in Wales and have a download speed of 0.9mb to 1.2mb with a 5km long direct exchange line so I know what's its like to have slow broadband.
Here's some links that maybe of interest to you (For communities in Wales):
1) Report your area as a Broadband Slow spot (between 0.5mb-2mb) on The Welsh Government Broadband Support Scheme website: http://wales.gov.uk/topics/businessandeconomy/broadbandandict/broadband/slowspot/slowspot/?lang=en
2) If you receive less than 0.5mb then go to The The Welsh Government Broadband Not Spot website: https://secure.wales.gov.uk/topics/businessandeconomy/broadbandandict/broadband/notspot/notspot/?lan...
3) Register yourself for the Welsh Government Next Generation Broadband Scheme: http://wales.gov.uk/topics/businessandeconomy/broadbandandict/broadband/ngbw/ngbform/?lang=en
4) Register your interest for a fibre broadband service. BT Openreach will then let you know when it is available in your area: http://www.superfast-openreach.co.uk/expression-gen.aspx
Hope that helps
Cheers,
James

  • Speed and memory update. . .

Ok - I have posted a few times about my concerns over speed and how Lightroom appeared to be much faster for a specific task, etc. . but how I like Aperture for the data mgmt features, etc.. .
Well, I am using Macbook (Core2 duo) and I got my memory upgrade (total 2GB) this week and what a difference it has made. Aperture runs wonderfully and I can actually use it with other programs running and there is little/no slow down. I can easily run with MS Windows via Parallel at the same time it is stable and fast.
    I am very happy . . .!

Aperture's performance depends a lot on how fast it can read and write the numerous files contained in the library (or elsewhere on disk). If you can't improve your disk IO performance, or even in addition to doing that, you can help the situation by providing lots of RAM that the OS will use as buffer cache. On systems with slow disks (like laptops) this will greatly reduce the amount of real disk IO and speed up Aperture considerably.
I've got 4GB of RAM and while I've never seen Aperture using more than 1.5GB, almost all of my RAM is used as buffer cache after I've run Aperture for a while.
    Cheers
    Steffen.

  • Futureproof - 3G Speed and Software Updates?

About to pull the trigger on an iPad 3G. A little hesitant to get a first gen product as new as the iPad but I don't think I can wait a year. Two questions about how "future proof" the iPad is:
    1) Does the 3G radio support the latest 3G standards that AT&T is upgrading to? I think it's 7.2 something or other? I know eventually 4G will be here but I assume that's a while out....but want to make sure that as AT&T upgrades their network in the near to medium-term that the iPad is able to take advantage of it.
    2) Will you be able to upgrade the software to take advantage of multi-tasking that is supposedly coming out in the iPhone 4.0 software which I assume will apply to the iPad as well?
    Thanks in advance.
    Message was edited by: ESN

Apple has stated that 4.0 will be available for the iPad this fall, note the multitasking is somewhat limited. It will be free to iPad 3.2 users per Apple's upgrade policy. Don't know about your first question, I did think 4g was already available in some places?

  • WLC update from 7.6.120.0 to 8.0.110.0 - speed and ms drops alot

    Hi,
Just wanted to share incase someone ends up with the same problem as we did.
I had to update our Wism2's and 5508's to 7.6.120.0 for 3702 support. One of the Wism2's started to hand/restart a few times per week after the update. Other than that the wireless was working good. So I made a TAC case via our Cisco partner. TAC couldnt find the error but some bugs that suited what they could read from the logs and told me to update to 8.
So I did, and *smack* the wireless dropped to speeds around 5-10Mbits with 80+ ms. Yielding that exchange, fileservers and alot if not all programs did not function/lost connection.
To make a longer story short.
After the upgrade the upgrade. The upgrade itself had enabled interim update under the AAA accounting with a value of 0. I tried on our lab controller to turn on interim with the same value but the system wouldnt let me since its not an accepted value. So I turned the function off on one of the live controllers (that just had a few AP's heh) and immedietally the Wirelss were back delivering good speeds and answering times again.
This bug might be connected to the problem https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/11894006/ise-12-wlc-5508-nas-sends-radius-accounting-update-messages-too-frequently
Hope this post helps if you end up in the same position.
    Cheers,
    //Anders

Thanks for posting this. We just upgraded to 8.0 as well and I noticed this being an issue on the AP I was connecting to. Quick Google search and that brought me to this post!

  • Questions and answers on DLM, sync speed and real ...

I was confused about some DML details and posted on a BE forum (https://avatar.bethere.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=43542) and got what was to me an incredibly helpful response from Tom (drsox).  I thought it would be of interest to some readers here so copy it below.  Once again, many thanks Tom.
    1) FTTC DLM applies only between the cabinet and the modem?
    >> Yes, as there isn't any broadband / data signal going anywhere further down the line to the exchange if you are on FTTC!
    2) What are the different parameters that apply on this hop? I know there is a current sync speed, a current snr, a target snr and an ip profile. Anything else?
    >> The IP profile isn't really related to DLM, it just "follows" your sync rate. In the past the IP profile would take up to 3 days to "follow upwards", leaving you with a high sync and awful speeds! This has been changed now on 21cn and "RE-ppp"ing (rebooting the router) would force the IP Profile to update instantly.
DLM changes the SNR target. So where BE have hard coded / set SNR targets such as 3db, 6db, 9db, 12db etc.. They only change upon user request. BT use their DLM system where line instability or line error counts are collected and analysed, the SNR target and interleaving settings are then modified in increments to try and stabilise the line.
This image shows quite well how, over a 6 day period, BTs DLM noticed that my line fault was fixed. I didn't get the full speed back for a week.
    3) Is the ip profile the same as the BRAS profile?
    >>Yes
    4) The DLM keeps statistics of errors etc to dynamically change the ip profile?
    >> Changes the SNR target and interleaving for the line which will reduce the speed, and therefor the IP profile.
    5) There is a general theory that the DLM is incapable of telling the difference between an error and a modem power cycle, so that power cycling can cause your profile to lower. Is that correct?
    >> Yes, if you resync / power cycle your router multiple times in a day it is likely to try and "combat the line errors" and reduce your sync rate by increasing the SNR and / or interleaving on the line.
    6) Can other connections and disconnections have the same effect? For example, if I reboot the router (where this is separate from the modem)? Or use the router interface to disconnect/reconnect the broadband?
    >> PPP drops (router reboots while leaving the BT Openreach VDSL modem on and connected) won't affect DLM. The IP profile will match your sync rate upon reconnection of the PPP session.
    7) If you have a low ip profile, does this mean that the sync is limited to the ip profile?
    >> Other way around, if you have a low sync rate then the IP profile will match the sync rate. If you get an awful sync rate and the IP profile follows downwards, then you resync higher but the router "keeps the PPP session open" (which is possible if you resync quick enough) then your IP profile will stay low, even though the sync is high. Until you reboot your router or disconnect and reconnect the PPP session.
    8) Can the sync rate change dynamically without a reconnection? If the ip profile gradually rises, will the cabinet force a resync to make sure the customer is actually getting the benefit of the higher ip profile, or must the user intervene with a modem resync?
    >> See above - Sync can rise without affecting the IP Profile and the cabinet does not force a RE-PPP.
    8) As I understand it, if the ip profile gets stupidly low for some reason, it can only be reset by BT wholesale? This will only be done after a visit to your home and a telephone call from the engineer to the BT wholesale central admin?
    >> Mixed reports plus I don't think people understand the difference between sync speeds, line faults, the delay in DLM increasing sync after a fault.. I expect half the reports on the BT forum are not related to a stuck BRAS / IP profile. It is possible for the ISP or a BT engineer to reset the IP profile and possibly DLM training.
    9) (8) This applies to all ISPs using BT Wholesale: some may be more willing to force this process to happen on behalf of their customers, but none can cirumvent it?
    >> GEA providers (I believe) still have DLM but don't have BRAS / IP profiles unless they implement their own.
    10) Who sets the snr? As I understand it, the customer has no direct control. Is this different for different ISPs?
    >> Mixed information again, I believe that BT Wholesale give providers DLM override controls and SNR settings but none? (or few) ISPs use this system.
    11) Real download/upload speeds are physically limited by the sync rate. They are also naturally limited by local limitations (such as wireless connections), server limitations, and congestion at various points along the route? Any more? The congestion along the route will vary bewteen ISPs as they use different routes with different capabilitues.
    >> It is possible for BTs regional or local cabinet network to become congested. Supposedly the minimum speed you should achieve over the BT part of the network is 15mbps. ISPs such as Plusnet, BT etc.. then layer their own "discriminatory" traffic management on top of that (ie, slow down torrents etc.).
    12) Real speeds are 'unnaturally' limited by throttling. This will also vary from ISP to ISP. Sky claims to have none, and BT none except for p2p. PlusNet and John Lewis have significant (but well explained)throttling. All the more expensive operators have none.
    >> What you said
    13) The ip profile affects the sync rate, and therefore actual speeds. Does the ip profile effect actual speeds in any other way?
    >> Not quite right. The IP profile directly affects the speeds you can achieve but the sync rate affects the IP profile. The sync rate is determined by the stability and quality of your line and what DLM thinks it can cope with.
    14) Many people (including AndrueC above) report real speeds from speedtests that are consistent and not close to the ip profile. These can't be explained by congestion (that would make them inconsistent). They can't be explained by server limitations, as they are consistent accross servers and the same servers give better speeds to other people. They can't be explained by local limitations, too many people claim sudden drops where the local conditions have not changed. They should not be able to be explained by throttling, as they as seen for many ISPs who do not throttle (I don't hold with the ISP lying theory here). What other factors are there that can explain these cases?
    >> AndrueC and some other Sky customers have strange symptoms where speeds are around 20mbps rather than the full sync speed. The only logical explanation is either local cabinet congestion, contention between BT and the provider's network (not enough investment by the provider) or artificial traffic management on the providers side. It is also possible that the router that the customer has attached to their line is unsuitable for the higher speeds. For example an old ethernet router may only be able to cope with 20 or 30mbps! A friend of mine has a TP-Link ethernet router running Tomato on a BT 80mbps service but the TP-Link's CPU limitation causes his service to only perform at around 68mbps; he has a replacement router on order. (Obviously wifi will significantly reduce performance).
    15) If you get a stupidly low ip profile, how long can you except it to take before it climbs to something more reasonable? (eg in my particular case, my profile is currently around 15Mb, and from BT service line tests should be around 58Mb). And the classic question, is it best to power cycle the modem (1) never, (2) occasionally (how often) or (3) never if at all possible? Mine did jump from 3.5Mb to 15Mb on one power cycle. Was that just coincidence?
    >> My FTTC line took about 6 to 7 days to go from 40mbps to 80mbps after a line fault. It is possible that your 3.5mbps to 15mbps increase was the "re-ppp" affecting the BRAS profile and that your sync had slowly been increasing over time.

what a waste of money sending an engineer to "fix a fault" which does not exist.  Precisely.
In my original BE post to which Tom so helpfully responded, I began:  It seems to me that DLM is an excellent concept with a highly flawed implementation, both technically and administratively.   I think that sending out an engineer to fix an obviously flawed profile is the main example of an adminastrative flaw.  I understand (I can't remember source, maybe Tom again) that they are sometimes relaxing the requirement for a visit before reset.
Maybe the DLM system is too keen on stability vs speed.  This will keep complaints down from many people: most users won't notice speed too much as long as it is reasonable, but will be upset if their Skype calls and browsing are being interrupted too often.
However, it does lead to complaints from people who notice the drops after an incidence (as in your thread that has drawn lots of interest), or who only get 50 instead of 60.  The main technical flaw is that DLM can so easily be confused by drops from loss of power, too much modem recycling, etc, and then takes so long to recover.

I tried using the downloaded update. It still didn't work but at least I did not have to restart my computer. The message was a little different too: "The installation failed. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."

Run through this list of fixes, either something is corrupted or you have malware that's blocking the update.

Make sure to backup your users files to a external storage drive first (not only TimeMachine as it may fail to restore) and disconnect, because if' it's a drive corruption/failing then the entire thing will either have to be replaced or a wipe and install done.

  • OS X 10.5.8 Running VERY slow since installing Safari and itunes updates.

Installed latest Safari and itunes updates today. When my OS restarted the install took a really long time and since then the computer is so slow its un-usable. Its a Macbook Pro, 2.6 intel dual thingy (the model just before the uni-bodies came out).
I have down the PRAM reset and tried launching in safe mode. Neither or these made any difference.
I then started with an install disk installed and while holding down C. Again, it took a long time to boot, but once in that mode I launch the various utilities etc. So I opened disk utility and verify and repair disk...but it found no problems.
Perhaps I should have repaired disk permissions?
Also I thought this might be a lose ram issue or something. I don't have a screw driver to open up RAM slot and re-seat it, but also in 'about this mac' it can see the ram...?
I am very frustrated right now! What have i done to my computer?!
It was running 100% fine until I did this software update.
...and when I say it is running slow, to give an example clicking Apple/N in finder takes maybe 5 for that window to appear followed by another few minutes of the whirling wheel of death. Then I can click on the next item (apps for instance) and go through a similar wait.
    argh!

No very clear idea of why it is behaving like that Samuel, but in 95% of cases it is some third party add-on, not yet updated for Safari 5, that is the cause.
Please peruse the following, particularly with respect to Open DNS settings:
    Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 4.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • MS-5169 v. 2.1 and what update for CPU ?

    Hi there,
    I have a MS-5169 v. 2.1 with Bios AMI v. 3.1 (It used to be v. 2.2).
The CPU now is AMD K-2 333 MHz but I have a K-2 400 MHz in my drawer I would like to use !
    Is it possible to update the M.B. v. 2.1 to use a K-2 400 MHz  ?
The reason I ask is because the guide lines are a little confusing: There are the manuals and in the case of v. 2.1 it can only use up to  K-2 350 MHz !!!
On the other hand when you look at the AMI BIOS history v. 2.7 includes use of K-2 400 MHz CPU and the one I have is v. 3.1 so that CPU support should be included ?
If the BIOS update qualifies the M.B. to use K-2 400 MHz, then there is the question of how the jumpers should be placed since the Manual for v. 2.1 does not deal with K-2 400 MHz CPU !!!
Any qualified idears from you ?
    regards

I just tried the 400 MHz and it did not work out !   - when the boot came to 'personal settings' in Win XP it shuts down and boots up again !!
    Any idear ?
I have done the following setup before boot:
Jumper JV1: I left as 'Dual Voltage CPU'.
I got this data from the AMD website:
    AMD-K6.-2/400 2.2V 3.3V 100 MHz 4x
    AMD-K6.-2/333 2.2V 3.3V 95 MHz 3.5x
Therefore I have only change the Bus Speed and the Clock multiplier:
    Jumper S1:
    333MHz                        400MHz
    no. 123456                  no. 123456
          000100                       101000
Jumper S2: Has not been changed - that is no. 1234
                                                                        1000
    - for 2.2 Vcore
All according to the Manual v. 2.1
Have I forgotten to set something ? - or is there someting wrong with the CPU which becomes evident as the 'personal settings' starts in the boot process !!
PS: the PC works alright again with the 333MHz CPU and Win XP came with a message at first boot up, that the system has been recovered after a serious error !!!
    regards

  • Aperture 3 - Continuous freezing and library updating

Aperture seems great when it works but is updating my library of 6000 pictures regularly for no apparent reason and this at a speed of one picture every two seconds. The computer is a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 and should be able to cope but the fans are running at top speed and Aperture is completely blocked. Aperture also freezes and aborts when I try to add music to my slideshows. Can the face recognition function be turned off? It seems to be running most of the time and I was wondering if it could be slowing the processes down. All pictures have been imported in their current (Lightroom based) location.

Faces does require a large overhead - you can disable it in the first tab of the preferences. You may also want to consider changing the prefs for "previews" - turn off "automatically generate previews" and set the preview size to something like quality 6 and set the pixel size to be approxiamately the size of your largest monitor's resolution.

  • I have a dual 1.8 ghz pwer pc g5 and sometimes i put it in sleep mode and come home on my lunch break and the fan is running at full speed and the computer has frozen up...what is going on here?

and sometimes i put it in sleep mode and come home on my lunch break and the fan is running at full speed and the computer has frozen up...what is going on here? is it a virus or has my computer been hijacked? it cant be good for the computer...anyone ever had this problem..?

Your problem has been reported many times, but causes are as varied as individuals.
Can we assume that a hard shutdown allows a normal restart?
Can I assume that you have used Disk Utility from your OS X install disc to repair the hard drive directory? The freezes and hard shutdowns require that the drive be repaired (not permissions) or soon the machine won't boot at all.
If the root issue is software related, in Console (the application) under Logs, there should be loggings around the time of sleep and logs that tell you what process went wild and froze the machine.
Network activity is also a common casue.

If hardware related, such as an external drive, other USB device (Wacom tablet) or USB PCI card, ejecting, disconnecting, removing, or in the case of the Wacom, updating drivers, are all potential remedies.

I have been running speed tests all week and the speed has been getting gradually slower and slower starting at around 1.4mbits and lowering to between 0.4 and 0.8 mbps. The broadband is also losing connection every so often.
This has been happening for a few weeks now, ever since the broadband and phone lights on my Hub turned orange, then continually flashed orange, went green then went off and then back to orange, flashed orange, then green then off and this cycle repeated until I restarted my Hub. Upon restarting the power light turned solid red and did not change. So I restarted it again. This time it rebooted properly (or so it seems to have). Before this the hub was (still slow) around 2mbps although this was much better than the speed now.
I have a BT home hub version 1.5. I am on Bt Broadband option 3 meaning I should have unlimited broadband. Reason why I am asking for help is I am getting lag when ever I play games on My xbox 360 or browse on my laptop.  Im in scotland, dundee in the DD2 post code area if that matters.
I have not tried plugging directly into the main telephone socket yet but as I have been using BT for well over 4 years and not had as little speed as this Im doubtful its due to interferance.
Any help would be fantastic. I just want to be able to play my **bleep** xbox again
Here is the DSL information. I have recently restarted my Hub (due to the broadband cutting out again). This is why the uptime is so low.

Quick update: Well, I moved my hub and have plugged it into the master test socket... Couldn't connect at all wirelessly, so I had to phone up the BT helpline, they changed the wireless channel and I got on after that (however the assistant said that my plugging into the socket should not have disabled the wireless.) As for the speed, well, needless to say there is little to no improvement. I cannot post my DSL stats, as I cannot even connect to my home hub via the ip address and the bthomehub.home address as the connection times out.
The speedtester on the other hand is working. Here are those results:
    1. Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
    Download Speed
    409 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    500 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
Download speedachieved during the test was - 409 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 100-500 Kbps.
     Additional Information:
     Your DSL Connection Rate :4704 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 8.62:28.39:63.06 (SBE:NBEBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.
    2. Upstream Test: -provides background information.
    Upload Speed
    307 Kbps
    0 Kbps
    448 Kbps
    Max Achievable Speed
    >Upload speed achieved during the test was - 307 Kbps
     Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 448 Kbps
I have noticed that the DSL downstream speed has shot up remarkably (by about 4000) since plugging it in to the test socket, but for some reason, the IP profile is still very low, I would have expected it to have went up at least a little but it has remained the same for the past 2 days now should I be concerned with this or give it some more time?
Oh and I have an engineer coming to the house on friday, turns out when my parents were installing the broadband accelerator they inadvertently knocked out the wires to the extensions and now none of the extensions in the house are working so I hope he or she can resolve things with my speed and I will update on Friday evening, and again next Wednesday(after the 5 day period) to see if the IP profile speed has improved.

  • Clip Speed and Transpose does not work on a sound clip

    Dear All,
I am trying to slow down and change pitch of an .aiff sound clip in Soundtrack pro but the "Clip Speed" and "Transpose" does not work. I tried the same version of the clip in .mp3 format but nothing happens. It is a music clip 2 min 19sec long. What am I not aware of?
I am using 2.0.2 version and I am fairly new to the software.
    Thanks a lot,
    Izabela

    Hi carloss,
Have you checked the integration services (Assuming you are using Hyper-V)?
The devices are configured based on the related services. You might need to install/Configure that thing.
Further, Windows 10 build 10041 is available, you may check through Windows Update:
Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10041 now available
    Best regards

  • Corellated update AND merge(update only)

    Hi ,
I have few corellated updates in my code , which i though ,i can replace with 10g new Merge update only stmt.
But to my surprise , the sql using merge is showing more cost and using full table scan.
Please find below the sql stmts. below(example). Am using Oracle 10.2.0.1
    create table t1 as select * from all_objects where rownum<10000;
    create table t2 as select * from t1 where rownum<10000-200;
    create unique index t1_objId_ind on t1(object_id);
    create unique index t2_objId_ind on t2(object_id);
    --Corellated updated query
    update t1 set t1.object_name= (select upper(t2.object_name) from t2 where t1.object_id=t2.object_id)
where T1.OBJECT_ID IN (SELECT t2.object_id from t2);Explan for above update stmt.

6 - access("T2"."OBJECT_ID"=:B1)I wanted to eliminate the corellated update , So i wrote using MERGE as below
    MERGE INTO T2
    USING T1
    ON (t1.object_id=t2.object_id)
    WHEN MATCHED THEN update
SET T2.OBJECT_NAME=UPPER(T1.OBJECT_NAME);Explan for above MERGE stmt.

Predicate Information (identified by operation id):
3 - access("T1"."OBJECT_ID"="T2"."OBJECT_ID")Cost is 201 , but for the corellated update the cost is 37.
Any idea , how should i re-write the MERGE stmt.?
Edited by: kumar on Jun 16, 2011 4:41 PM

First "cost" is just a number and you should not compare or tune to get the best "cost" in an execution plan.
What counts ist elapsed time => IO, CPU...
In 11g the "cost" for the merge is better (and also the CPU time is far off to be close to the truth!)

       - dynamic sampling used for this statement (level=2)In your example, the elapsed time (thanks for the it!) is 78ms for the update and 125ms for the MERGE. (ORACLE 11g on and old PC) .
So "should you rewrite" the MERGE? No idea how. I assume you want to change from UPDATE to MERGE and see if it's worth?
Here it's not. But, your example just uses 2MB of data. And the difference from my point view is not MERGE or UPDATE it's NL against HASH join with that tiny amount of data.
So generally I use MERGE because of speed and because I have more control over the query. For updating 2MB of data, it's not worth it. For updating GBytes the stuff I worked on it was faster (and better to control).
