Girlfriend's Nephew's Project ALMOST FINISHED!

I have acquired a 700MHZ eMac for my girlfriend's nephew, it came to me about 2 months ago the same as it did upon leaving Apple's factory in 2002
I've installed 1GB PC133 RAM, a 250GB Western Digital Harddrive, and a SuperDrive, and updated the OS from 10.1.5 to 10.4.6, everything is up and running, except I've run into a problem when trying to update the Software (or get online at all for that matter), it doesn't recognize my internet connection (Time Warner Cable/Road Runner Hi-Speed Internet, through a Linksys WRT54G (Ver 6. Firmware 1.02.0) Router, I'm running the same Ethernet cable to this eMac that was getting my PowerMac G5 online, and several other computers, including the MacBook Pro I'm typing this on are all connection presently to the Internet--so I know the cable, router, cable modem, ISP, are all working fine, the previous owner only used the dial-up modem to get online, is there something special I need to do to get this eMac's built-in Ethernet port to recognize the internet that's coming out of the end of the cable I have plugged into it? This is the first I've had a Mac that doesn't AUTOMATICALLY work as soon as I plug a good Ethernet cable/connection into it, could the eMac's Ethernet jack be bad? What can I do to verify this? Any help will be appreciated, thanks

OK, again in the Network system preference, find the "Show" pulldown menu (it will say "network status" right now), and pull it down to "Network Port Configurations". See if "Built-in Ethernet" is listed and if it's checkmarked. If it's not, checkmark it and click the "Apply Now" button and then see if it will work.

Dynamic Images Scroller - Almost Finished

Ciao Guys,
I am developing a Dynamic Images Scroller , It is almost
finished (even if it is still a bit rough)
Since I am a self-taught coder, I had to build the whole
project using different tutorials.
The scroller is XML driven and display the images which move
from left to right. When one of the images is clicked:
The scrolling STOPS.
The image clicked is enlarged
And the other pictures are scaled and faded away.
(No problem up to this point)
Then once the Enlarged picture is clicked again everything
should come back to the initial status.
My issue is that I haven’t be able to
“restart” the function which move the images along the
stage.
Once the enlarge image is clicked I delete the function which
scroll the image but How I should lunch it again?
Here is my messy code, Please help me and I’ll buy you

That was exactly* I was looking for. Maybe I should Google more in German ;-)
The main problem was that I defined my image outside the first repeating group (that doesn't repeat, it's always just one object) - the first group is followed by 7 more.
Just like the "Name" (that's positioned outside the group in the document header), I positioned the image above the table representing the group.
Doing that, the "Name" is filled correctly, the Image only when the Output Format is Excel or HTML - not Word or PDF ... makes no sense but that's tje way it is.
After moving the image inside the group....it works great!
(One more thing...the image size is fixed to the image you use as "dummy". Is there any way to make that more flexible, because now some scaling happens...)???
@Trent: That was the way we initially did it, but when the size of the row exceeds 32K...you know what happens.. And even with a small image the 32K limit is hit easily
The way I use it now (very similar to Carsten's description) there is no limit....

I was updating to 3.6.13 and it was almost finished and it paused on its own and is now stuck there even when I turn my computer off and turn it back on. It doesn' t respond when I hit the resume button. What do I do?

I got a message screen telling me I needed to update to the latest firefox version. So I proceeded to update to 3.6.13. The update window said it was almost finished with just a few seconds remaining. It was taking a very long time when it got to that point so I minimized that screen and went to do something else. My computer kept freezing up so I went back to the update window to see how it was coming along and noticed it had paused, I tried to hit the resume button but it didn't work. I turned my computer off and turned it back on hoping that I could just start the update over but the same message was there when I went to try to update again. It still said it was almost finished with the previous update and that it was paused. What do I do to correct this?

Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

So, how do I delete this folder. Remember, I am not extremely familiar with technical terms.

I recommend you erase the TC.. it is the easiest and fastest solution.
In Airport utility open the disk tab and select erase.. choose quick erase.. it will take less than 1min.
Start again but copy files in small amounts.

MacBook Pro / Mozilla Firefox / Netflix / Silverlight Update solved - DON'T DWNLOAD FROM NETFLIX
I solved this problem tonight. I have a MacBook Pro with 10.5.8. I know, it's old. But I love my Netflix and I recently noticed that Firefox plays Netflix much better. Then I suddenly got this message that I needed to download the latest Silverlight - it only takes 30 seconds! - WRONG. However, after much searching, I finally did the steps in order and it worked.
This was after repeatedly downloading Silverlight from the Netflix site without success. So here's what I did:
1. Went to http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx
2. Followed the directions. I felt like such an idiot for not doing it right before.
3. Go to your hard drive and search for "Silverlight" to locate ANY existing Silverlight files: .dmg, etc.
[also check your Libary/ Internet Plug-ins, but the above search is faster]
4. Drag it all to the trash and empty it.
5. Go back to the Get Silverlight page and click on the Install on that page, not the Netflix site.
6. Note the steps for Safari or Mozilla Firefox - I wanted Firefox, so I follwed those instructions.
7. Once it's installed, close all the browsers and Restart that bad boy. Right away.
8. Open a browser, go to Netflix and proceed to joyfully rot your brain with Netflix content. Yay!

Please let me know the OS you are using and the exact error message that apeared.
If the files have already been downloaded then try running the setup.exe file to see if the installation initiates.
You might want to retry the download and check again.

HT5071 I almost finished my iBook and layed out almost 100 pages. Now I wanted to edit chapters and Sections by moving them into certain areas of the 100 pages. It will not work, adn I have no clue where to go from there. Any advise?

I almost finished 100 pages on the iBook Author. Unfortunately, I just created one page after the other (with lots of graphics and pictures). Having done that, I wanted to edit the iBook by placing Chapters and Sections between these pages.
I used iBook Author Help and Publishing with iBook Author for advise, but I am unable to move Chapters and Sections between the already finished pages. I get the strange feeling I did the whole thing wrong and wasted many hours for nothing. Anyone out there who struggled with the same problem? I self published a book already and wanted to use iBook Author to update and upgrade my existing book. Any advise is very much appreciated, thank you. Wolf

You may also try starting a "fresh" copy from scratch and copying and pasting into it with the order you want. I have succeeded in this a few times.

Untill the movie studios agree to allow past downloads of movies outside of the US, you aill always have to have a copy of purchased movies on your computer. If not, you will have to buy them again if you delete them.

I still had the first sentence but I just signed out, cleared the cookies and started over. The second time I was able to type the email ok and send ok. what happened? is this a firefox issue?

If you used the mouse then you may have selected text and deleted that selected text by accident. In such a case it can be restored via Undo (Ctrl+Z), but this won't help if you have closed or reloaded that window.

When I am burning a movie from IDVD to process almost finishes and then the DVD pops out when it isn't finished. HELP! What is wrong?

It sounds like it could be a burn speed problem or media problem.
Many people here like Verbatim media and I have had good results with Maxell media. DVD-R medium is probably best.
iDVD doesn't give you any choice of burn speed, and depending on your burner and media choice, this could be 8x or higher. I recommend 4x or lower (I prefer 2x) for a burn speed. To get a choice in burn speed, create a disk image out of iDVD instead of writing directly to writable media. Creating a disk image is an option under FILE in iDVD.
Then use Apple's Disk Utility to burn the image to writable media. See Burning a disk image file on a CD or DVD in Mac OS X at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006 for information on how to do this.
Let us know if you are successful in creating a disk image file.

IMovie suddenly quits...project disappears...was almost finished..???

I teach in a small northern Wisconsin school/community, the art teacher...and we are moving into videography. Bought a Canon XL2 camera...have a Mac lab...one iMac and eMacs. Our computers are on a network.
I'm trying to work thru the learning curve myself so I can teach this to students. Twice now nearing the end of the developing video process, the movie suddenly quits. Trying to open the "Recent" by clicking on the upper left blue Apple suggests the file was never there, never existed.
The second time this happened was tonight. I had an hour length video with 20 hours of after school time into it. I had already burned the video once minus audio so we could write a script and go into our recording studio to lay tracks. Was near finished when it suddenly disappears, so it feels a bit like a kick in the gut to see this happen. Most assuredly the students will not have the resilience even once to rebuild a movie that suddenly disappears.
Our tech guy isn't quite sure what's happening either.
One thing we do see is that our Gig space consumed in the making of the video is not being returned after its disappearing...so it is chewing up memory apparently existing somewhere.
I'll have to rebuild this video beginning shortly, but wondering at this point what is to prevent this from happening all of a sudden once more???

Here's a thought. The error message about conversion may be misinformed. Think like a programmer for a minute. The routine he writes opens the iMovie project file that's inside the project package. He has iMovie read the file looking for a flag that tells iMovie which version made the project. The flag that iMovie expects doesn't say iMovie 5, so iMovie reports a version error to you and offers to convert the project.
But the file is fine. The problem is with the data iMovie evaluates, not the file. iMovie couldn't read it correctly because of some unexpected factor. Perhaps the server uses a disk format iMovie doesn't understand. Then iMovie's analysis would lead to the wrong result because the data isn't delivered in the format iMovie expects. Where a version flag should be, the project file says "horse feathers". Obviously that's not iMovie 5, so iMovie offers to convert it.
If something like that is happening, the problem may be caused by storing the project on the district server. Try storing the project locally.
I have no experience working with iMovie in an environment like yours, so I'm just guessing. I suspect, however, there may be lots of different disk/networking factors that might cause a failure like you see.
We do know this: iMovie expects us to use the Mac OS Extended disk format. When a local disk is something else, we get unexpected results.
