Girlfriend's Skype displaying a contact name that ...
Ever since my girlfriend added me as a contact, my display name has always shown up as my real name for her. I have never used my real name for Skype. Ever. I entered my pen name as my display name when I signed up. This seems to be a problem that only happens with me and not her other contacts.
Further more, my display name does not change for her when I change it. Again, this problem doesn't seem to happen with her other contacts, just me.
So, why is my real name being displayed even though I've never used it? Why won't my display name change on her Skype? I've never had these problems with other contacts and I can't understand why she's having them.

No, no, that's not the issue.
The issue is that my contact was displaying my real name on her end when she added me instead of the name I had at the time she added me.
She did not change my contact to my real name (I know she wouldn't do that). It was just there when she added me and it would not change. She ended up changing my contact to a name I prefer because of this issue.
The fact that Skype can somehow display my real name, despite me never entering it for Skype and despite no contact name change is very concerning.

I would recommend having your friend check to see if call and message blocking is enabled on their end. Here is some information regarding that feature.

Suddenly my phone has stopped displaying my contacts names when I receive a message from them and just a number appears instead?
This happened to me and I was baffled for a bit. I went to my contact list and that contact (that was now a number) had disappeared. Then, multiple contacts started disappearing. Subsequently, they reappeared but in duplicate and sometimes triplicate. I believe that it had something to do with iCloud sync. I ended up removing the contacts (in settings) and then bringing them back in. Everything seemed to work after that.

Hi, Can anyone help me? When I receive a call from someone who I have as a contact in my phone, their name does not appear on the screen - only their number.
On every other Nokia I have had the contacts' name appears. I can't find an option to turn this function on.

Go to Solution.i would check to be sure that you do not have a duplicate of that contact in your device.
this usually happens when you have more then one contact with the same phone number. it gets confused and just shows the number. -
SOST tcode display wrong contact name in recipient.

Our issue is with workflow sending the emails for the supplier and requestor to the wrong contact name, but correct email address. In SOST tcode recipient names are wrongly displayed. Is problem with workflow or SOST?.

I guess this is an incorrect approach to maintain same email ID for multiple users. Please check if this is your business requirement else correct the same.
The user names are picked from the details maintained in SU01 and also possible if this user is assigned to a Busienss Partner, then the details are picked from t-code BP.
Please try and correct the entries for few test users. Maintain the email ID to only one user and then test if you still face the issue.

Hello, my phone has just changed a setting and I am unable to figure out how to change it back. Historically my text messages are saved and stored by "contact name". Now they appear by "contact number". I prefer contact name and would like help with how to restore or return to the original setting.

If you click the number, a drop down menu will appear and you can choose add to exisitig or create new contact. 50% of the time I am able to see the contact in my list the other %50 I have to create a new contact. When you do either of these the name will show versus the number. I think this is a bug with the latest update.

Incoming calls no longer display the Contact name
Since flashing my phone to update to PR1.2, any time I get a phone call from someone who is in my Contacts, it just displays the telephone number, which can cause an issue if I don't recognise it at first glance.
Any ideas what could have caused this and how to resolve? Can it be due to the update?

Front Row displays a video name thats been deleted...
I've deleted a movie on my mac, I go into Front Row>Videos>Movies and the file name is still there, anyone had the same problem or does anyone know how to get rid of this?

AndyOh man... well I backed up my iTunes Library.xml file and the iTunes Music Library.xml file and deleted them, sure enough, the "phantom videos" went away but all my playlist where gone. When I went to restore the xml files I did something wrong and didn't get them back so I went to an older backup (thank God for external USB drives) and pulled that those xml files and after a few minutes of cleaning up the changes I had made since that back up there are now many more "phantom videos' in my FR Movies Section.
Is there a way to back up playlists and and restore them without the "Phantom videos" coming back as well? -
Messages on Mac app not displaying contact name
On Messages on my Mac, despite being synced up with iCloud, the Messages app does not display the contact names of anyone. It shows their phone numbers or Apple email addresses. Is there any preference I can change to make it show the contact names? If it exists I haven't found it. I also used the app meant to scrub contacts to make the phone number format conform with Apple's standard (xxx) xxx-xxxx please help!

I take it you are no longer on OS X 10.7.2 ?
The display of Names (and/or Pics) in Buddy Lists and the main Messages window (when in a Chat) in Mountain Lion is controlled from the View Menu > Buddy Names.
To set this choice the window has to be the "Front" one.
So the Messages window (CMD + 0 in the window Menu) gets brought to the Front when any sort of Text Chat is going On.
the View Menu > Buddy Names items is selected and navigation to the choice you want.
Full names is the First name, Last name as seen in the Contacts app (Formerly the Address Book)
Short Names are Nicknames (normally set via Messages) or First name only if no Nickname exists.
Handle is the Screen Names (If AIM), Jabber ID (If Facebook, GoogleTalk or other Jabber ID) or in the case of iMessages the current contact ID or iPhone number.
You can do the same to any Buddy list that you also display.
It can be used in Conjunction with the View Menu > Messages which has options to display Pics, Names or Pics and Names.
(Names now refers to whatever is set in the "Buddy Names" option).

SamCheck this setting: go to your contacts > options > general options> make sure sort by is set up to first or last name. then check in address book options > filter and make sure you have no filters on...
If that does not help try this:
1) With the phone powered on
2) Remove the battery, and then reinsert it after a few seconds.
3) Replace the battery cover and wait several minutes for it to reboot

Contact name not displaying for texts/messages, only phone number does
When I turn on my iPhone 6 (iOS 8.0.2) in the morning (I shut it off at night), any received text messages (iMessages or standard texts) only show the phone number of the person who sent the text and the standard tone for texts is heard, when it should display the name and play the special text tone I setup on specific contact records. It is not til after I use the Touch ID or enter my passcode that the name of the contact who sent the text displays AND the special text tone for that contact is heard. This not normal behavior. Even upon startup on my former iPhone (5), any texts received displayed the contact name and played the appropriate tone when the phone was turned on during the morning. HELP! I believe this is a bug; but, would like to have this confirmed. If it's a setting or combination of settings that I'm missing in iOS 8.0.2, please let me know.
My contacts have never been stored in iCloud nor do I plan to use iCloud.

munthe problem lies with your copying of the contacts
When you copied them over you may have added duplicates, if there is a duplicate in the contacts of a number the phone will not display a name as it will be confused.
You will need to go through the contacts and delete any that have duplicate numbers.

N95-2 doesn't display contact name in imported SMS...
Hi all,
I just imported all my SMSes from my old 6230 to my N95-2. I did it via Nokia Content Copier v3 (supplied with the N95). Backed up the 6230 and restored it to the N95 (contacts, calendars and messages only). To my surprise, the N95 doesn't display the contact name in the imported SMSes while the numbers are also saved in Contacts.
How can I solve this? Does anybody else have any experience in transferring SMSes from their old phone to N95? My old messages, contacts etc are still saved in 6230 just in case I need to redo the whole process again.
