  • Can't open pdf file linked through a ASPX link in Safari

I'm a new Mac user so sorry if this is basic. It appears when I click on a link in Safari that should open a PDF file (link uses a ASP link) I get the download box instead. I can download the file to my desktop and open it with adobe from there. I just downloaded the latest adobe reader. This is a new intel iMac (10.4.8). If I click directly on a link to a PDF file it opens in Safari with no problem. The specific link I'm having trouble with is :
    http://www.rochester.k12.mi.us/download.aspx?ft=MzAwMTV8fHwyNC4xOTIuMTM5LjE4NXx8 MS8yLzIwMDcgODo0OTozNyBQTQ%3D%3D
It seems to see the file as having a ".pdf.exe" extension so doesn't open it with adobe but sees it as an application so offers to download or cancel.
Really clicking on any PDF link from this page causes the same problem : http://www.rochester.k12.mi.us/index.asp?folder=15700&name=Physical%20Science
These links act OK using IE. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks...Jim

    Sorry for the insufficient info.
My environment is Windows 7 64bit.
The PDF was converted from Word file and for example the link which should open a local file was working on version 10.1.1.33 (like first picture below) but not anymore after updating to 10.1.4(second one).
Can you help me with this?

  • Issue with opening PDF file link from Safari

    Hi Everyone,
I got a problem with opening PDF file link from Safari 4.04. Instead of getting a normal pdf content, it shows some weird characters. Not sure it is something wrong with Adobe Reader Plugin or Safari?
I have uploaded a screenshot of the issue in the adobe forum (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/531870). Please help!
    Many Thanks,
    John

There's nothing wrong, except the fact that you have Adobe Reader installed. You don't need it, so get rid of it; it will only cause problems with Safari. What you're seeing is the contents of the PDF file, rather than having it displayed.
If you want to download a PDF file, you can either Control-click on the link and choose "Download Linked File As…", or you can Option-click on the link for the file and it will be downloaded to your Download folder (usually your Desktop).
If you want to view a PDF file in Safari, you don't need Adobe Reader; Safari is perfectly capable of doing this by itself and has been for years. Adobe Reader will only get in the way and slow everything down.

  • Safari and PDF file links

Why can't I open PDF file links in Safari? The new window that opens shows only a black screen. I have the latest verison of Mac software and Adobe software loaded.
    Thanks,
    Cyn ~

To  view PDF in Safari Preview remove Adobe plug ins if any.
    Macintosh HD > Library > Internet Plug-ins
    Look for these two files.
    AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin
    AdobePDFViewer.plugin
Right click it and then select Move to Trash”.

  • Pages 5.0, hyperlinks, PDF file, links don't work

I upgraded to pages 5.0. My documents have many hyperlinks. When I convert them to PDF files the hyperlinks don't work in the pdf files. In pages: file > export > pdf > best image quality then to desktop. The links work on page 1 of the pdf file but not on the remainder of the pages. With the previous version of pages all the hyperlinks worked in the pdf files I created. Something I need to be doing with the new pages 5.0? Help. The links are a key component of my documents.
    Thanks in advance.

    Found a fix!
    1. In the new version of Pages, export your document to a Word doc. Save.
    2. Right-click on that Word doc in the Finder, Choose Open With > Pages (4.1) [Or just open Pages 4.1 yourself, then use File > Open and choose that new Word doc]
    3. The old version of Pages opens your doc. Choose File > Export... Choose PDF. File will save where you choose, links active and working just like old times.
This is my first discussions post and hope it's useful!
Why would you want to export to Word .doc?
Just use Pages '09 4.3 in the first place and avoid the problem.

  • PDF file linking on a CD (Acrobat Pro / InDesign CS3)

Weve put 9 pdf documents on a CD (made in Mac InDesign CS3) for a client. The original plan was to hyperlink them together using icons (representing the other pdfs) that appear on each page of each document. Unfortanately were on to plan B as InDesign pdf links stop working once you copy them onto the CD.
Is there a way to globally or automatically to apply hyperlink hotspots in Acrobat Pro? While I know I can make links that work on a CD in Acrobat Pro -- the best I could do in this case was pasting and repositioning link hot spots by hand on every page - and that was just one document.
    Any suggestions?
    Phil

Will the Interactive PDF, along with the Word doc be written to the CD? And your hopes are the user will insert CD, open PDF, click link in PDF which opens Doc in Microsoft Word? You can accomplish this in many ways, but a few questions first...
    1. Does the content need to remain as a Word Document?
    2. Does the Word doc need to reside on CD?
    3. Are you using Mac or PC?

  • ???   Links:   PDF File Links to Files On CD

Ok I have a CD that automatically opens a PDF page
On the PDF page I want 3 links and or buttons to will open files located on a CD
How do I create the links/buttons to open the files located on the CD?
(I can create a button and link it to a file on the computer but I can not edit or pre-define the files on the same cd)
Anyone know how? Can you list the step by step directions please?
    Thank you

If you are opening a file on the CD itself, then you can link to other
files on the same CD readily. The trick is to keep all the files
together on your hard disk and make the links between them, then move
    everything to CD.
If you want to link to the CD from the hard disk, that doesn't seem
possible as the drive letter won't be known.

I'm replying to this old thread for anyone looking for this problem in the future ( like I did ).
The problem for me was that the original .pdf had a single blank comment in it.
I opened it in Acrobat pro, deleted the comment, saved, opened it in livecycle, changed the illustration ( or whatever you had to change in the first place ), save it again, opened it in Acrobat and save for Reader Extended PDF.
    It now works
PS: nice job Adobe with useless error messages. Just saying "Comments are not allowed" instead of "This operation is not permitted" would have saved countless hours to countless people.

  • When a pdf file is accessed through an online link nothing appears although I can open and read pdf files otherwise.

I uninstalled then reinstalled Firefox 7, but still get a blank page when I click on a pdf file link. I have no trouble reading PDF files stored on my PC. I use Foxit Reader.

  • Clicking a .pdf link does not open .pdf file, it opens a SAVE DIALOG box

Recently when I click on a .pdf file link I am no longer able to open the file in a adobe reader either within a FIREFOX webpage or open it using the full adobe program. Instead it opens a SAVE dialog box requesting me to save to my harddrive. I am not sure what has happened and am trying to find someone who might know what is going on?

You can change the action for Portable Document Format (PDF) from Preview in Firefox to use the Adobe Reader or set to Always Ask in "Firefox > Options/Preferences > Applications".
You can set the pdfjs.disabled pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page to disable the build-in PDF viewer.
You can check the value of the plugin.disable_full_page_plugin_for_types pref on the about:config page and remove the application/pdf part if present or reset the pref to the default via the right-click context menu.

  • Linked PDF files won't open in Preview

I have a a few Table of Content PDF files linked to a large number of PDF files in subdirectories (the old AGES library system).  When I try to open the linked file in Preview i get an error saying that I don't have permission to open this file.  Adobe Reader works fine and I can open the individual files in preview but trying to open them from the TOC PDF file doesn't work.  Repair permissions says everything is fine. I'd rather not install Adobe Reader so is there something I'm missing in trying to get Preview to work?
                                                                                                                                                                             Thanks

I can suggest a workaround, though I don't know what the cause of the problem is. It just showed up recently in my installation of MacOSX 10.8.5.
I opened all the files that had difficulty with permissions. Then I closed them and opened the file with the links (the Table of Contents file). At that point the links worked. Go figure.
Opening the Table of Contents file first and then opening and closing the problem files resulted in the links taking me to the first page of the linked document, rather than the correct page within it.
I had checked file permisssions previously. That was not the probelm. I even used the Terminal to reset them to universal read/write, but that made no difference.
    HTH.

  • Opening a pdf file from an old email attachment

    Hi.
I am hoping someone can help with this odd issue.  I received some pdf attachments in an email and after 6 months, the emails at work will be archived.  This gives the pdf files names like:
    accountsheet.pdf.pdf or accountsheet.pdf.efa.
The person sending me the email with these files does not have a problem opening them but I can't open them.  I get the error message below and wonder if there is a way I can fix the decoding problem if that is the issue.  Any help would be extremely appreciated.
    Thanks,
    J

    Hi Jeff,
    I'd like to help!
First step you should save it out of the email to your desktop. Do not try to open it directly.
Make sure you don't have two (periods > accountsheet.pdf.pdf)...
Then try opening it with the new file name (accountsheet.pdf).
Let me know if this helps!
    Regards, Stacy
