Give My iphone 4 to my Daughter, BUT still have it available for me!
Giving my iphone4 to my daughter to use. She does have itunes on their PC already so could connect it to there, but there is the possibility that I may wish to switch back to it as well. What would be the best way to manage this?
Could the phone be connected to my PC (and my itunes install) but we somehow tell it which of us it is?
Can we have 2 different stored/backed up 'profiles' for each of us and load that up dependant on which of us is using the phone?
There are probably things that I am not thinking of as well at the moment, so any advice here would be much appreciated

If at the point of giving it to her she did want to use my PC (and therefore the same itunes install that 'knows' me) what do we need to do at that initial point of handover? Would it have to be a factory reset, or is thee a simpler way?

I open Address Book, go into Preferences, select Template and under the Names field (friend, assistant, father, etc) I add a custom field called "Principal".
I also add two more custom fields in the Email area.
Quit Address Book then relaunch. Add a new contact and the new custom fields, Principal, etc. are there. All good so far.
I have a Now Contact file with about 200 contacts in it. I export all fields as a Text file, Tab delimited. No problems there. With Address Book launched, select Import, pick the text file, leave Text Encoding on Automatic and click Open.
The window that shows the fields for Address Book and fields for the text file side by side opens. This is where you match up the correct fields for importing. If I go to one of the fields from the text file that I created a custom field for, click under the Address Book heading on the Do not import, scroll thru the Apple choices of fields, none of the custom fields show up. Only the original Apple ones are there. Why does Apple let you create them in the Template area but not have them available for importing? Does anyone have suggestions on getting around this?While most likely not of interest to you, Spotlight can also tell you where the files it finds are located
Hover the mouse pointer over the name, and press Command-Option and the path to the file will be displayed.
As for opening a terminal session in the directory where a file is located, there is Applescripts that do just that as well as specific features in Lion/Mountain Lion terminal:

I installed iphone 5 from itunes back up and get a pop up [ ! ] app not installed can not find file. I have looked through everything that have with "CANADA" in the app title. That is the only info there is.
If you haven't found out which app it is then if you go into list view in the Apps part of your library do any of the apps have an exclamantion mark against them ? If they do then they are the one(s) that iTunes can't find the actual app file(s) for - if you delete that app from your library then if it is still in then you should be able to re-download it via the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage on your computer's iTunes, or you can just download it directly on your phone via the Purchased tab in its App Store app

Imported text from word, all missing fonts found, but still have pink boxes for Turkish language

I placed a document from word. The body font is ITC Garamond. Apparently ITC Garamond doesn't have some Turkish characters. Adobe Garamond however, does. So I was going through and selecting each pink box and changing the character to a new character style I created which is the Adobe Garamond Font. Surely there's an easier way to do this rather than me selecting each pink box? Can GREP do this? I would use the Find Font dialogue, but it shows all fonts as being fine, it doesn't show any missing fonts. So this seems to just be a wierd issue with ITC Garamond not having those special characters.
I know what you're thinking, why not just make my body font Adobe Garamond Pro.... Well I can't right now. Not for this job. Maybe in the future I will, but for not it has to stay ITC Garamond condensed Book.
Also, I should note that in the preflight panel, InDesign does not show the document as having any missing Glyphs either.... so Peter's Glyph script won't work.
Thanks in advance.In your case I would not add or change a character style, change your paragraph style. A mix between 2 similar fonts looks terrible. You might need a character style for language purposes, to get through with hyphenation correctly, but this is a different thing.
To change a font globally go to search font and replace and redefine styles.
But if you really does not want to change the font you can crate a character style. And in your paragraph style go to GREP styles and select this chara style and write all glyphs and letters where you need this character style.
Take care, if you use a different font you might have to scale in advanced properties, so that a glyph from the other form fits to the rest of the text. -
Just installed CS6, but still have some need for CS4
I just installed CS6. I have a plug in (Lucis filters that don't want to load into CS6, and may not be compatible), so I still want to use my CS4.
If I open images from Bridge CS4, how can I get them to open in Photoshop CS4 instead of CS6?If you want an ongoing choice (and you're using Windows) you could put shortcuts to each of the two versions of Photoshop.exe on your desktop and drag images to whichever one you want to use.
Keep in mind you can only have one of them running at a time. If Photoshop CS6 is already open and you drag a file to Photoshop CS4's shortcut, it will still open in Photoshop CS6.

Over several years, I have accumulated some 1400 messages in the SENT folder.
Lately my Thunderbird is taking a long time for some actions that used to be instant, like selecting another message to read or delet.
I regularly remove incoming messages to keep the in-box under 300, and I have almost nothing in the other folders.
I tried changing the "local folders" to a different directory, but when I do that, all the old "sent" messages become un-available for searching and potentially continuing a conversation.

Unless your bank's website is insecure, you're fine. Go up to the Safari "Search" bar and type in Rapport. You'll be amazed. It may "work" on PCs, but definitely not Macs. And it's not needed for Macs. -
Had to buy a new PC as the hard disk of the old one broke and lost all purchases, but still have them on the iPhone. How can I sync them back to the new PC in iTunes without losing them?
You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!

i have deleted all contacts in icloud but still have them on my iphone (which is backed up as well to iTunes) how can i restore the iphone data to the iCloud so it will resend it to my mac book and iPad? I have switched my iphone to airplane mode so it is not connected to the internet and so icloud can not wipe it at the moment.
thanks royThere's a menu choice (I think under "Files") that lets you sync purchased items on a device back to itunes. Look for that.
iCloud does not store music. If you want to do that you'd have to subscribe to itunes Match, but to get music to the match servers, you need the music in the itunes library on your computer. -

And that's exactly the problem, because everyone should have their own account for iCloud. You can share an Apple ID for iTunes & App Store purchases, but you shouldn't do that for iCloud (Mail, Calendar, Contacts etc. ... ...and Photos). The problem of using the same account together could mean that only your dad's photos were stored.

The lock button on my iphone is jammed, and i need to send it in to get it fixed. If your phone was damaged by you or in accidental damage, then you would be liable to pay for the repairs. Apple does not offer "loaner" phones, but if you have a credit card, they will "advance ship" a replacement to you so you can get it, then return your damaged one to them and as long as they get it back within a resonable time and it is warranty covered damage, they do not charge you for the replacement iPhone, but they do charge you a fee for the advanced replacement option (about $40-80 USD IIRC).
You can eliminate all the at by making an appointment at a local AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) and they should be able to check your iPhone on the spot. It it is covered under the warranty, they shoud replace it for free right there, and if not, they would let you know and you have the choice to make the repairs or not. -

OK, a couple questions for you. You say you have "the latest" iOS update installed on your iPhone, but you don't mention what version that is. Would you please tell us what the version number is for your iPOS installation? Also, you have the "banner" on your Settings App, but is the banner for in iOS update, or is it for something else? Do you have a new provile, or an expiring profile, or possibly Notifications that may be triggering that?

There's no way to delete all message threads at one go. You can however do one contact thread at a time.
In Messages app where you see a list of messages from different contacts, tap Edit (top left), tap the red (on the left), then tap the red Delete button on the right.
